Just in case you were hoping that the body of this watch was a solid piece of black metal, it's not. If you bang the edge of bezel it will expose shiny silver metal. I know this because my desk at work is glass and I banged the bezel against it's edge when standing up. Nothing I couldn't improve with a little black magic marker. Sigh, oh well, nothing stays brand new forever.
P.S., Apparently no metal is black through and through. That being said, whatever they have used to "paint" this black is not very good and comes off easily.

There is no such thing as "black metal" on this planet, yet. That material does not exist and has not been invented yet. Everything that is made out of metal is PAINTED (with different methodologies, but still, painted). No matter how you will create that paint (melted powder, dissolved material, laser) it will only be a thin layer at the surface of the metal. If you will scratch the coloured layer, the METAL under it will be revealed .
So, the hardness of a color on a metal surface it's given by the paint type and the method of applying it.
Yea.. I went to a shop and the promoter showed me a pretty banged up device.. with liver linings all over.
Does anyone know if the silver version is every gonna come out?
Huh gotta say I find this somewhat discouraging. Barely brushed the metal on the bezel of this watch against another hard surface and the paint came right off. Whatever method they used on this didn't work very well. The Zenwatch is suddenly looking more appealing.
Looked around and this seems to be the best repair item I've seen for fixing scratches on black anodized aluminum.

Of course not everyone loves it but most who know what they were doing seem to. Seems to work better than the old Sharpie solution because that dries very flat and you can see it.
This is why I bought a whole case plus screen protector for it.
You might want to consider doing the same.

Yes but none of those kits protect the edge of the bezel which is the most likely place to get scratched.

Actually a little adhesive black rubber ring to go right on that bezel edge would to the trick. Sort of a bump guard. That's really the only place you need to protect.
may be that the bezel can be easily changed
I thought that for the price it has to be DLC coated. The ZenWatch should be better, or at least cheaper to replace.
Hi
Do you know if it is possible to change the bezel ?
I banged my watch bezel against a painted wooden door frame today. It took paint off the door frame. But I wiped off the bezel and it was unphased by the event. You'd have to bang the bezel pretty good against something pretty hard to mess it up.
I rubbed mine on a metal surface, at first I saw a nice streak, rubbed it and my watch was fine.
Beware the edge of glass tables. As glass is very hard it will scratch the paint off your bezel with ease. I have a glass top on my office desk. Since I wear the watch on my left wrist, I've put a piece of black rubber electrical tape above where I tend to rest my hand on my leg. Now if I bang the watch on the glass table edge it is protected.

It can't be replaced. But there's a thread in one of these "R" forums. Where someone shows in detail, how to file down the top part and looks nice.

What's so hard about taking a file to it? I just took my wife's nail file and filed the entire top ring off. Some dude, filed the entire thing. too.

I too have had some pretty big brushes with objects and the bezel has faired well in every case.
So I purchased a Skinomi full Techskin kit about $13, to wrap the sides and back of my Note 8. The application of it was pretty simple, there are videos online for it, on how to do it. The only weird thing about applying it is it pretty much doesn't stick at first when you place the solution on it, then as it dries it gets super sticky right away out of the blue. You can be moving it one second, then it just stays and is almost completely stuck on. You need to press down the edges and all and it takes about 45 minutes or less, but just keep revisiting it to press it down more. The back was ok, got some cloudiness (which they say is normal for a day or so) and maybe a couple of slight bubbles but I don't really care, it was mainly to prevent scratches. Attached are the pictures of what it looked like when I got it, and what it is like on the phone. You can feel it for sure, not as smooth as it transitions from one part to the other, but again, I got it to prevent scratches. I did not place the screen protector on it, because I was putting on tempered glass.
In addition you will see tempered glass, which I actually surprisingly feel like its good. No loss of feel at all, it just doesn't go all the way to the edges but the edge features all still work. Its a Luuvvit one, which I bought from amazon for about $11.00
Looks nice. Beats what I have on mine right now. Mine looks like a high 5 year old did it.
Holy crap that was funny!

I'll actually post some better pictures tomorrow on it. Realized these are not as good as they were taken right after. I'm amazed how unnoticeable it is, really liking this purchase.
I have my skinomi ordered i put it on all my phones. Great protection from dirt and dust getting around case edges etc etc. Keeps them brand new looking
Ok here are some better daytime pictures and bubblesare gone now
And last one
I did mine too with a skinomi full body skin before putting it into my case. I always full body wrap every phone because.....Why not? Dirt ALWAYS makes it's way between a case and the body of a phone. The skin keeps the dirt off and keeps the body like new! The guy at T-Mobile didn't believe I had the S7 Edge for a year until he looked up my account!
Fyi I dropped it on concrete and asphalt literally over a hundred times.
I'm not using the skinomi screen protector though. My Zizo Bolt case came with a Tempered glass protector that seals on the edges, but I've been super impressed and will keep it on until it breaks. Zizo is an awesome company! No sensitivity loss and super clear. Also no rainbow or bubbling. Yes there's a small dot matrix pattern though ( UGH ) but it's not visible at all on the screen while it's on, even in the sunlight.
I had the bolt on my s7 edge too. I love the case and it held up just as good as any otter box defender which I've used on tons of other phones. Like I said, it's been dropped a lot! Lol
Oh and a heads up...... hit it with a hair dryer and let it sit a day before using any tight fitting case or you will peel it up as you put the case on. Been there and done that. Learned my lesson. I LOVE skinomi skins but I equally like the IQ Shield too. Both make good stuff. IQ SHIELD feels a hair less rubbery but both are great!

I always use skinomi screen protectors. Never got the full wrap since i always use a case.
My s8 plus, I have the skinomi screen protector and a rhionshield crash guard all works great together and the back of the phone doesnt touch so it never got scratched.
Order the same for my note 8. Im waiting for my crash guard to come in. probably at the end of the month, ill be caseless then then
And a tip is to lightly spray the phone. Then lay the protector on and push the bubbles out from the inside to the edge. Then run your fingers up and down the edges for a few minutes and it should stick. Then i let dry for 5mins and then rub everything again.
been doing that since the note 4 edge and has always work.

Trust me even with a case, use a full body wrap! It not only keeps dirt off but acts as another cushion for impact even with a good case. They are worth the money for our nearly 1000$ device lol

I did a blind test with my wifes phone before (she remove hers from one of her old phones. I believe the s7e)
You can tell which is skinomi and and which is bare. The bare is slicker.
But overall if its very smooth and people wouldnt know it was there. 100% clear and no gel or ruff feels to it. Ive been using them for years and to me there the best.
Also you can get a 2pack for around $7 ship so if one wears out you can just put the other one on.

SKinomi has been a weird brand for me. It gets decent reviews but sometimes people hate it. I always get Skinomi for all my phones, imported to Korea because they don't sell them here. I love how thick it is, compared to other "films", which means extra protection. I also like how after a while the solution just seems to have some kind of a chemical reaction with the film itself, and makes the film look very glossy and clear like .... actual glass. Once I get a Note 8 again, I will probably put dome glass on the front, and another layer of skinomi on top, and the back will only be protected by Skinomi. I swear by this stuff, it's in a different league from other films.

Ahh actually, yes it shows the s.Pen marks, so don't put one in the front. For the front, use Glass dome, for the back skinomi. THis is the only one I could find on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Galaxy-Prote...sr=8-1&keywords=skinomi+note+8+back+protector
Even though the back is glass and there is protection from external case, anyone installed a protector in the back (film, glass, or anything material)
Any brands or suggestions?
thanks a million.

No, because I have bad experiences in the past with cristal protectors that never fit really well with curved screens
2nd for the dbrand dragon skin. Also adds some friction for holding the phone without adding any thickness

The glossy is completely transparent. It's a thick plastic, though, and you need a ton of solution to get it on, etc. It only comes with the back pieces, they don't seem to have a kit for the Naked series.

I got a wet applied screen protector for the back. I want to maintain the look of the back without covering it with a skin. This is the one I have and works perfectly with my Lumion case. (I imagine it would work with any case) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07516Y9B5/ref=crt_ewc_title_gw_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AZPYIARPTPBOT
For those without back protectors but use a case, the back will still get scratched easily. On my Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, the glass back had tiny scratches even if I kept the phone in a case all the time. Tiny dust particles still managed to get trapped between the glass back and the case. A back protector is a must if you want to maintain the pristine condition of the back glass.
Slickwraps plus spigen
Bought a slikwraps skin and a spigen clear case.
Slickwraps as usual is a pain in the butt to install and they always take 2+ days to ship the item from the moment you buy them but is till prefer their designs.
Spigen iv'e use them since my s6 and i always liked them, past spigen clear cases turn yellow after some time, i'm hoping this ones won't since it says they have improved the yellowish thing happening.
I wish I hadn't taken off my case to check. I found some very small micro scratches around the bezel. Can only see under bright light at specific angles but knowing they are there really messes with my ocd. I've only had the phone for a few days. I'm sure that any note 8 held under lighting would have the same scratches right? I'm wondering if my case caused them. It's the unicorn beetle pro and it has a hard plastic piece you attach to the front/sides before popping it into the hard rubber/plastic shell. It's very secure. They could have been there as soon as I got. The phone... I didn't inspect the bezel under a direct light like I did today. Doesn't move in it whatsoever... My s7 edge didn't have this issue because the bezels on it aren't shiny like this phone. Is there any possible way to lightly polish them out? They are seriously tiny. Can't feel them with a fingernail or anything. Any idea if the bezel is stainless steel on the orchid gray model or is it just painted plastic? Or should I return it and get a different one... Still in 14 day window.

Which color is more likely to show micro scratches? The shiny silver bezel or the black? I know I read somewhere about the black bezel paint coming off. Also I don't see how the case would of caused this. It doesn't move around in the plastic shell whatsoever once you snap it on. I know I could find the Sam kind of micro scratches on every phone under the right lighting though.

My black one has them too. I bought mine used, but it was only a month old. The previous owner kept in a case and a screen protector from day one.
Well, dust between the back of the phone and the case caused some scratches at the bottom of the back glass. And the bottom of the metal frame has scratches that look like they are from taking the case on and off. I just put a clear protective skin on the back and frame and you cant see the scratches.
The worst is the screen. He used a TGSP with the dot matrix pattern. These notoriously allow dust in under the TGSP. Well one speck of dust in the middle of the screen actually etched a spot into the glass. Its tiny and only visible under bright direct light. But it's there. I switched to a full adhesive TGSP and you cant see it at all.
I'm OCD about my phones too. I wish mine was 100% mint. But on the other hand, I only paid $540 for it (sold my S8+ for $585), and I can relax a little knowing its NOT perfect, if that makes sense.

Man it's such bs. When I look at it in normal light in my room I see nothing.. Looks perfect... But when I use the camera flash from my s7 edge and shine it I see little lines everywhere along the bezels.... I can't imagine any note 8 without these? On the other hand my s7 edge has none bcuz it isn't a shiny finish like the note 8... Is the black bezel trim shiny like the orchid gray? I'm considering ordering that one.
Wait so you got a skin that goes over the actual Bezels of the phone?
Idk what to do... The bezel looks perfect under normal light... Can't see any lines "scratches" or anything, but when I take a photo of it with flash on, wherever the actual flash hits I can see these lines. Is this normal or what.

I just don't get how all these micro scratches have appeared. Definitely not the case... They are in areas where the case doesn't even contact the phone. I really want to know if all orchid Grey note 8s will have the same "scratches" under flash. I have a hard time even calling these scratches. It's made from butter. Joking aside I remember my note 8 when brand new after day two in a case there was a scratch on the back. Ever since that moment , I've used back film protection as well. It just takes a grand of sand to get lodged inside the case to do a lot of damage.
Also what case ? Some cases are better at trapping the grain of sand and preventing it from moving around than others.

Spigen la manon.
Made of chocolate.
Yeaup small particles can get sandwiched in the case but it seems odd it would be a long scratch if that was the case.
That's why I either do a clear slick wraps or throw on a debrand.
Phones in cases got those a lot easier than naked. Small debriefs enters the case and starts to scratch the sides/back.
Yeah.. Tell me a phone with glass back and a Case on not getting hairline scratches and dotted "spots" on the back !
Being cautious and have been using plastic protectors there since "glass era".
This is why I purchased a case AND DBrand skin for it. All my phones have gotten scratches on the back from dust and grit getting under the case. Trying real hard to keep this one pristine.
That is why I like Samsung OEM cases for the N9. They line the inside of them with material to decrease the chance of these blunders.

Glass back. A good was or oleophobic coating might help with some scratches. Definitely not going to help with sand getting in between case and phone though.

Hey, reviving an old thread. Did you find any fix? I have not one, but 2 medium and 1 small scratch on my back and I used Displex but didnt change anything (I mean really nothing). Any other suggestion? I would try a magic pen for cars and then apply dbrand skin. I so ****ing hate how weak is the rear glass

There is no fix. Just prevention. All mentioned above.

Yea, but I had a HTC 10 before, full metal. Never had a rear glass
Sand/dust will always cause scratches on glass. Only way around it is to put a protective skin on the back. Even if it's a tight case, the device will shift and particles can still move around between device and case.
There's probably no way to fix the scratches once their occur because its happening to the glass, not a layer of protection onto of it like paint is on a car. No matter what clear liquid you put on their to dry, it will always show the scratch/crack as light will refract at multiple angles, causing you to see the scratches/crack.
Also the finger print sensor is very eazy to scratch
Ironically when I got my Note 9 I left the plastic attached to the back of the phone from the factory before I installed a case on it . I learned this from my S8+ which also got similar scratches . My thought process is this , I was putting it in a case anyways and while the case itself should protect it . I decided to leave the plastic backing on the phone in place anyways . Not like I was going to see it under the case anyways .
