hi guys,
what i did is that i flashed the speedmod kernel via odin as described by cursed4eva and my phone got turned off and cant get it back turned on, i can get to clockwork recovery mod but when trying to reboot it does not get turned back on. what could i do? i appreciate it if you could urgently advise.
what rom where you on?
It would help knowing onto which rom you flashed the speedmod kernel.
maybe they are not compatible ?

would appreciate greatly if you could lead me through this, i am quite worried. would it be possbile to chat maybe on skype?
speedmod is not compatible. go back to its original kernel.
why would you flash speedmod when it says it's only for ics & gb?

boot into recovery and go to mounts and storage. seletect mount usb drive. and connect to PC. you should see your ext sd. now download hydracore v7 and put it in the sd. go to install zip from sd and install the kernel. reboot

when you clicked mount usb storage, it's already executed the command. when you connect to PC, look in my computer folder and you should see a drive. unmount will unmount it. Don't click it now.

unfortunately the usb drive does not show up in my computer, i mistaked the dvd drive as it shows as removable drive as well, unfortunately i am stuck again,
i have downloaded the advised kernel though.
is there anything that can be done, maybe a factory reset? i am connected to the pc but no sign of the drives
can you remove the external sd and put the file in there and put it back to the phone.

okay, did all of if what you said, i could now turn my phone back on, before installing the hydracore kernel, should i have done a factory reset, or any other steps before installing it?
THank you very much.
When i installed this new kernel, i though i would be able to apply airview, which did not work for me before, i thought the kernel was what i needed to replace, did not notice that it was an ics kernel.

you saved my ass big time. i am quite new to this, was my first scare.
by the way, do you have any idea knowing my kernel and rom, why airview would not work? the permissions are okay as well. i copied the permission file to the permission folder but i deleted the original zip from my sd card where i copied the permission file from, which i think should not matter.
that should not matter. but I haven't used this to. so not sure why it's not working. definitely nothing to do with kernel.

Can you boot into recovery mode? Try it.
If not, try to boot into download mode. If it works, flash the stock firmware using Odin.
Then you can install everything again.
That's how you should install a new ROM:
First off all you need CWM installed.
Then
Wipe data
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik cache
Format system
install zip from sd card (choose your zip etc.)
Reboot
How?

If you don't have CWM installed on your phone, how did you try to install JB?
I hope that you didn't use ROM Manager, as this would be the VERY end of your phone: Hard-bricked.
To boot into recovery hold down the power and the home button until the Samsung logo appears for the second time. Try this and report whether it is working.
---------- Post added at 05:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:16 PM ----------
Sorry, didn't read your post completely.
Congratulations. Your device isn't hard-bricked.
1) You can download CWM 5 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1291327
2) Flash it using apply update from sd card.
3) Then download your ROM. I recommend this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173576
4) Copy it to your SD card.
5) Backup your apps and data using apps like Titanium Backup.
6) Backup your old ROM using CWM
7) Wipe data
8) Wipe cache
9) Advanced > Wipe dalvik cache
10) Mounts ... > Format system
11) Install zip from sd card > choose zip from sd card
12) Reboot
13) Restore all apps and data using apps like Titanium Bakup.
That's it.
Good luck!

CWM is an abbreviation for "ClockWork Mod". It is an alternative recovery tool.
Are you shure that you installed CWM 5? There should also be a "install zip from sdcard" option which is essential for flashing your phone.
So try flashing it again.
You didn't backup your files before flashing. Bad news.
I guess that you have just copied the files on your SD card. Now you won't be able to restore your apps and data. I'm sorry to tell you, but now you won't be able to restore your apps and data.
Flash CWM 5 again. The one in the linked thread.
Then flash the ROM again in the way I described.
Afterwards everything should be working.

I don't think that you will be able to get your data back.
And your apps: They are stored in the .android_secure folder on the sd card or in the /data/app folder. At mount time the .android_secure folder isn't shown as it is mounted to /mnt/asec. That means that you will be able to access these files there on a rooted phone. However, both folders gets deleted during flashing.
For the future: Use backup apps like Titanium backup. There is also Carbon backup by one of the Cyanogenmod developers (Koush). It is easier to use, but it isn't compatible with Link2SD if you use that.
On the new android versions you can also backup using Google's backup function. However, you will have to install all manually apps again. Your data will be recovered on installation. I recommend Titanium backup. You can get it from Google Play.
Are you unable to access all files from your sd card? If so copy all your files to your computer, reboot into recovery and format the card using CWM 5. Copy the data back to the SD card.

You can use the batch actions. It can either found using the menu that shows up in the options menu if you press the menu key or if you are on a newer ROM (4.xx) there is an icon in the action bar for that. The bad thing: You need the Pro version for that. However, it is really worth the money. It will save you a lot of time if you flash different ROMs often.
If you do not want to buy the pro key, you need to select the app and click restore. Do that for every single app. It is annoying. So support the dev if you have got the money.

The action bar is that space where the app's icon and title are shown. There will be a icon for that, too (only if you are on Android 4.x).
You can download good file explorers from Google Play. I use Antek Explorer, but others are good as well. Use the one you like best.

Hi,
if other SD cards do work with this ROM, you might want to try re-formatting the non-working one (and do a backup first! ). Either with your desktop's card reader or within CWM.
Btw, what ROM are you on, could you please provide some more details (as listed in "Settings" -> "About Phone")

I have had some trouble with my phone since dropping it.
Now sometimes it does not turn on and it took me an hour or so trying to turn it on, (it made the vibrate sound but nothing on screen at all).
And my pc/laptop does not recognize the phone when i plug it via USB although the charge icon changes :S
the last backup i made was many months ago with pc companion.
Is there a way i can make a backup of all messages/numbers ect..
I am planning on getting the exact same phone tomorrow so would like to just swap it all over.
Thanks
Have you installed Clockwork Mod and can access to it? It has a backup option.
By the way, if you can't use USB how do you plan to move the backup from the phone to the PC in order to move it to the new phone?
If you just want to backup contacts, messages, call log, calendar. You can use "Super Backup" from play store. No root needed.
To backup apps, you can use "AppMonster".

Hey all,
I have a 32 gig Verizon Developer Edition Moto X with an unlocked bootloader. I am currently running the stock ROM but this issue has persisted across multiple ROMs. Dropbox and Google Translate will not update, giving a "Insufficient Storage Available" error message. I have over 3 gigs available on my internal storage and went through and un-installed a bunch of apps I don't use, to the point of uninstalling twice as many megs-worth of apps as what DB and GTrans require. What the hell could be causing this?
I tried uninstalling Dropbox to see if I could get it re-installed without issue, but now it just flat out won't install due to supposed storage space issues. Has anyone else experienced this? Googling the issue doesn't return any results, but I can't be the only person experiencing this can I?
Thanks.

What recovery are you using? I recomend Philz. If you find no better solution. Backup all partitions then test the restore. Just restore what you just backed up. Then wipe data & data media. Then restore again.

What recovery are you using? I recomend Philz. If you find no better solution. Backup all partitions then test the restore. Just restore what you just backed up. Then wipe data & data media. Then restore again.

Oh
You will need to save your SD contents to whatever. OTG, android file xfer, windows. Then restore that too.

Try backing up your SD contents first. Then flash Philz (.zip) from your twrp. You can flash them as needed, back & forth, just reboot recovery.
Philz will do twrp format backup too.
Make a full backup with Philz as custom as you like. Test out your backup. Just restore what you backed up.
You then want to format data & data media.
Then restore.
You could make a Philz custom bu that includes SD (data/media) too but put it on otg. It will self mount when the OTG cable in present.

i'm super confused at the level of effort you're explaining based on the problem at hand. The error is two-fold; you have stale files from old/failed installs and/or you're out of memory.
Keep in mind that Android uses your available space for RAM, so if you have memory intensive applications, there's a possibility of running in to this issue.
Easiest of course is to delete your videos/pics - they take the most amount of space.
