Why can't I see my lock screen? - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

If I press the power button I see it, but if I press the home button it goes straight to home screen.
I have fingerprint, and face recognition set up, and have the phone lock after 5 minutes of being idle, or instantly with the power button.
I'd like to see my lockscreen, can anyone help?
Verizon Note 8, if that matters.

Turn off face recognition and turn off unlock with home button in nav bar settings.

Now it isnt showing the lockscreen when pressing the power button either.
Only time it shows the lock screen is when the phone is locked.
Is this just how it is?

Unlock with Home button is turned off
Turning off face recognition doesn't change behavior

Just checked. When I disable unlock with home button I see lock screen. But when face recognition is enabled lock screen appears only for 1-2 seconds. I'm using Smart Lock and phone is always unlocked.

What happens if you press the home button but tilt the screen away from you so it doesn't see your face?
My lock screen comes on only when the phone is locked, otherwise it bypasses straight to home screen.

In my case only way to see lock screen is turn off face recognition or dont't look at the phone.

If the camera can see your face, its going to unlock. If you can see the lock screen, then yes, your phone is locked. But if you have face unlock, the camera will unlock your phone.
If you disable the second toggle in my screen shot. Then you would still have to swipe when you see the lock screen for it to use face unlock.

Turning that toggle off enables a swipe to activate face unlock, and leaves the phone at the lock screen.
However, if the screen is turned off but not locked, it will still bypass the lock screen and go straight to my home screen.
Is that normal behavior?

Yes. That's normal. If you want the lock screen press the physical lock button. The pressure button is a universal home button I suppose.

Seems like an odd behavior and completely different than my previous experience with Samsung phones where there lock screen would always display whether or not the phone was locked.

Yeah it's their first go at the pressure button. Maybe there will be more options in the oreo rom to adjust it's behavior.

Issue with fingerprint unlock

I set up the fingerprint scanner to unlock my screen exactly how it's supposed to be done, within the menus. I set up and registered my fingerprint without a problem. But, when I lock the screen, then go to unlock it, it has defaulted to me swiping the screen. If I restart the phone, the first time I have to unlock it, it asks for my fingerprint. I do that, then if I lock the screen again, it once again defaults to swipe. I dont understand why it doesn't stay on for every unlock. Someone help me, this is annoying.

System Settings > Lock Screen > Secured Lock time. What does it say here? change this to what ever you desire. Instant to 1 hour. mine was 10 min default I think. I use 3.
It said 10, you were dead on, that fixed the problem. Thanks so much for your help.

OP3 fail finger print scaner

I have only added right hand thumb finger print for unlock my OP3.
But if you try multiple times with left hand thumb it unlocked my mobile.
Worst case is after n number of tries... Just lock with power button and again press power button swipe above its automatically unlock your phone.. It doesn't prompt for pin.... [emoji32] [emoji32] [emoji32]
[emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] on OP3 inventors... I think this mobile is not worth of INR 10000/-...based on this behavior of the phone.
For your information my phone on Oxygen 3.2.2.
I will create video and post if possible.
Issue found and OP3 HAD NO ISSUES

A video would be good.
I did not encounter this issue once.
When I constantly scan the wrong finger, the device asks for a pin,
even after multiple power-presses.
This only happens for me if i have smart unlock enables (e.g i have my watch on me, or i'm at home) - even if i lock it so it asks for a pin, it will unlock after a few failed attempts of another finger. doesn't happen if i turn smart lock off (but i use it, why would i do that!)

If it helps, turn ON smartlock (e.g set it to your home location or whatever) and turn it back off, see if it sorts it.
Looks like smart lock is on, by location or by bt device. Never happend on mine op3.
The fingerprint scanner on the OP3 is the best you can get on a phone nowadays.

Update: Screenlock now working. I switched off the fingerprint ID then switched it on again. Now ok.
Did you set up face unlock and lift is lift to wake still on? That combination can work so quickly it seems like the phone isn't locked.

Yes I actually did setup the face unlock. You maybe right coz when I deleted my enrolled face, turned off then turned on the fingerprint ID, screenlock was back to normal.

Double tap screen on?

Im trying to find a launcher or app that allows the screen to turn on with a double tap . Most seem to have just screen off. So when the phone is on the table, a combination of double tap and face unlock would be much better than having to hit the power button whi h is awkward

I believe it needs to be a function in the kernel. In other devices I have had if not present in stock then more often or not enabled via custom kernel.
I agree would be useful, I just would like to check notification, when you unlock with fingerprint you don't see those

How to disable access to the Notification bar while in the lock screen?

Hi, I'm using Note9 with Screen lock type = PIN + Intelligent scan + Fingerprints.
Here is my experience:
[1] When I turn on screen (by the Power button or Home button), the lock screen appears. Here I can swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Notification bar.
[2] If I swipe the screen to unlock, the num-pad appears where users can input PIN. Here I can NOT access to the Notification bar.
The question is, how can I disable access to the Notification bar at the step [1] above.
(access to the Notification bar is already disabled in the step [2] above).
Thank you guys for reading my query.

I don't see notification when I pull down on the lock screen. All I get is the settings pull down shortcuts.

Weird. On my Note9 it happens as steps [1] and [2] I shown above.
Did you check it clearly by following steps [1] and [2] carefully?
Thanks for your feedback.

I'm using pin and fingerprint for unlock also.
If I press the power button to lock the device , then I press the home button im presented with the lock screen. If swipe up I'm asked to enter pin number. If I swipe down I see the shortcut toggles.
I have my notifications as icons not banners though.

Yes yes I meant these shortcut toggles.
I don't want this to be shown on the lock screen as I (or other people) can change settings by tapping on these shortcut toggles.

I know exactly what you mean. I had the same issue on my Pixel. What is more frustrating for me is that many times when the phone is in my pocket the notification icons get pulled down and something gets turned on/off by accident. There should be a way to disable the notification pull down until the phone is unlocked.

Oh, never mind, I have tested on my Note9 and it turned out that although you can pull down to show the notification bar, you can NOT toggle those icons as it requires the screen to be unlocked before toggling on/off.
So no need to worry anymore.

Yes but here's the problem... if you accidently pull the notifications down and touch an icon and then pull it out of your pocket and unlock it, anything you accidently touched will be turned on/off. Therefore I still wish there was a way to disable it from the lock. screen

Nope, all unattended touches before unlocking screen will not be accepted. I have tested.
You can check it by yourself.

I did test it. From the unlock screen I pulled down notifications and touched the wifi icon. Then I unlocked my phone and the wifi turns off.

I also tested on my Note 9, here's my results:
WiFi can't be turned off unless you unlock the phone right away, so if the phone is locked and you pull down the notification panel and click to turn off WiFi, it will it prompt to unlock the phone, if you don't unlock and screen turns off and then you unlock, WiFi will still be on.
Bluetooth: It can be turned off and doesn't require the phone to be unlocked, but it can't be turned on without unlocking the phone.
Sounds: Ringer can be changed without unlocking the phone, so you could accidentally turn your ringer off
Flight Mode: Can't be changed unless you unlock the phone (same scenario as with WiFi)
These are the only 4 I've tested.

Anyone had any luck with this?
I'm also trying to disable the Notification pull-down drawer on the lock screen for security reasons.
I went through all the menus and settings, but it seems Samsung has removed this option altogether.
I'm using a Note 9, Android 9, OneUI v1.0 (latest as of this post).
