Just take your time and read the instructions. Rooting it is very easy, just follow the directions. You'll be better off learning it instead of someone doing it for you the way you're wanting.

Do not feel bad about the jokes, but as jammol says, take your time, do searches, learn how to, if you do not have any idea about root and everything related, it is pointless to root, even dangerous for your device, even people that have rooted many devices before are somewhat reluctant to root their note 8, incluing me, if you want to root, then get the necesary knowledge first, and then have fun rooting your device, good luck

I have been trying to figure it out on my own. I am very good with computers and custom build computers etc. But the files are different from all the tutorials I have seen. The files I download after extracting them are different than the ones in all the tutorials. So I basically need help and need someone that knows rooting to help me. And whoever said there is no point in rooting if u don't know how to root is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. You can get apps on the app store that requires root access also I can get custom ROMs etc. So anyone that is willing to help me root my note 8 please comment below. BTW I'm willing to pay 10-20 dollars for someone to help me get my phone rooted.

I did not tell you that you did not know what root is, I was only trying to encourage you to investigate and learn how to do it, so, do not say I am dumb, by the way,I am not the lost one hereā€¦ anyway, good luck with that attitude

Slight contradiction?

I might be going OT here, but dude seriously. If you're good with computers, you'd have this figured out too (According and to quote you: "This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard")
I sincerely encourage you to really read and if not, read again and again to root it yourself. It's not that difficult.
If the files don't add up, try again and look where you probably went wrong.
We're here to help man, but at least try once more by yourself, for yourself. This time, cooled down and chill.

I don't see the point of rooting right now, the snapdragon model doesn't have any major roms worth switching to right now.. And I don't see why you would use anything else that needs root, simple things like adblock and such don't need root. Infact, I'm positive anything you want root for I could do without root.

LOL I am pretty decent with computers. Never used .Tar files. And have never rooted a phone. I just came from IOS to Android and am asking for someone to help guide me through rooting my phone. Is that too much to ask for? Im even offering 20 dollars to someone that does so. The reason i am asking for help is because in Obin when I click on AP to open the System files there is no .Tar file. And ive Extracted the file several times and downloaded the file over and over trying to get different results and even tried several different tutorials. So for everyone to tell me to just keep reading and educating myself on rooting is not what im asking for. Im not asking for Mentors. lol Im asking for someone to help me root my phone because i have having problems with the files etc. If the files were the same as the tutorials then i would of had my phone rooted 2 weeks ago. Ive been trying to figure this out for 2 weeks now and have found no solution. Now back to my post. If you are here to just write "Dude we are trying to help you but just do more research and figure it out on your own" then please dont write anything. Im needing someone that is expert in rooting Androids and can help me. Im not trying to become a expert at rooting android phones. Im wanting to root my phone so i can download the rooted only apps in the app store and maybe down the road put stock android on my note 8 if posible. But thats for me to decide. ALL I NEED IS HELP TO ROOT MY NOTE 8. if you dont know how to root and don't want to help me and just tell me to do more research then please don't post at all, thank you.

Post the specific questions that are tripping you up in the root threads, and people can help you catchup. It's not as hard as it seems and if you're good at computers it shouldn't take long. Paying for root makes sense at first but is a recipe for disappointment in my opinion. Friendly suggestion

Yes, i might just proceed with doing that. The problem is I am leaving for work 2maro morning and don't have time to trial and error rooting my phone and I restored my phone to root it so I want to root it before i leave 2maro so i can download all my apps etc and don't have to restore again and lose everything again. That's why I just need someone to run me through it as I don't have much time.

Dude, your 20 bucks offer doesn't matter because that's irrelevant. Xda been about customizing and learning -yourself-.
I rooted my S4 back in the days in a few minutes, if you'd read a few CF-Auto-Root threads you'll understand how dead simple rooting CAN be and you'd understand Odin/ how to place files. I encourage you to read through one and just understand how the process worked back then.
Beware: You WILL NOT trip knox, but since it's a SYSTEM ROOT you CAN'T use Magisk. No systemless-root. Banking apps will/ can fail.
The main thread already contains very simple instructions. If those aren't comprehensive, not sure who can help you further. (Select V2.5 files if you're on the LATEST firmware /recently updated to December or January patch)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/development/root-samfail-galaxy-note8-t3685340
Else if that really doesn't work, hit me up on Telegram. I'll try and walk you through: saadatbaig

Straight up....u shouldn't root. First U don't even know what u want it for. Second u need to do it yourself, which means reading, and reading and rereading that whole samfail thread, having all the files and backup files and being very prepared to get yourself out of trouble so you're not out of a phone for a couple days scrambling for help. and if someone helped you, you'll just be asking for help again when there's an update and you have to unroot update and root again. It's best to learn yourself and be prepared so you can get yourself out of a jam. I am a 11 yr xda member, and this is the first android phone in the last 8 yrs that I haven't rooted. Why well, not really a need to or want to root unless the bootloader gets unlocked to flash custom kernels and roms and get rid of the 80% charge limit. Which I believe is NOT going to happen ever with the n8. I for one am glad this root is a bit more difficult than the last 5+ yrs or so cause it separates the boys from the men with rooting. Too many lil brats brick a new device and run to insurance to save them cause they want to skip steps, not put in the time to be prepared for trouble and READ. One click root is Bull**** and shouldn't be allowed because simply too many people don't know what they are getting into...... Especially if they are coming from an iPhone?
I'm really not trying to sound like a ****. It's just that, I would never root someone else's phone and not be around that person. There is upkeep. I use to get my cousin's upgrades and give him my phone so I could upgrade every yr. Opposite yearly upgrade of me. I gave him a rooted/romed phone from the previous yr , but I would keep up with his and mine and do his rom and upgrade mods and troubleshoot it...? I like to push every phone to it's limit of what the chip can handle. Sometimes it was a lot, spending 5 hrs setting up a phone pushing the chip with overclocking, other mods, undervolting and having to wipe and redo everything over and over cause of bootloops. Not so much upkeep now though with the n8. If the bootloader gets unlocked, well awesome, and I'm down to flash away. But if it doesn't, oh well. I'm fine with the freezing apps, Samsung theme store plus other apk theme files floating around xda, poweramp with high res through aux, and using helium as a backup.
Anyways good luck and welcome to xda

Well said, rooting is something you must do by yourself

It is so simple, I've helped out many people. If you want me to walk you thru I'd be glad to. Just PM me.
Hi sorry for the late reply but i havent got internet access available at home yet and that is one of the reasons i was hoping i could get someone else to root my phone for me
getting someone else to do it would basically not allow you to have any knowledge of the process what so ever
i would work on getting an internet connection and i also could walk you thru it
there are some REALLY REALLY great threads about rooting , some more simplified than others
the reason i would say to get knowledgeable on the subject is purely down to future releases
I am getting an internet connection but its not for another month and i cant wait that long really

go to a friends house. google pdanet and download and install on g1. u dont need root for this.. pdanet will allow u to use ur g1 as a modem. i used it before rooting.
If you're smart enough to find the xda forum, you're smart enough to root. It's really freaking simple these days

Try that link as it helped me put the Hero on in less then 10 minutes, well after hours of trying it differnet ways
People are trying to help you here. If you have someone else do everything for you and something happens to your phone, then what are you going to do. This has got to be some of the easiest steps possible. If you don't want to do it yourself then I wouldn't root your phone.

[Q] Should I root my Note?

Hi XDA,
Before I put my query here, I must say this is a Kick-ass site I have come across in the recent years . From the Noods video to the 'Similar threads' feature that I see when I am about the write this post. Cool stuff and during my 2 hours reading threads, I see Dr.K is the most awesome and patient guy in this forum. Keep up the good work, I guess I will do my part from today too
Now coming to the point...
I am confused if I have to root my phone. I am actually very happy with my phone and its feature except for the fact that I get annoyed whenever I run out of credits while playing games like Contract Killer, Gun Bros etc on my mobile. When I Googled, I came across a few tricks which requires access to the root.
Now I need a little help here to convince myself to root my mobile. Please guys I did read a lot of forums but my only reason to root is for games. Should I or should I not.
btw my Kernel version ends with LB2.
Please advice

[Q] Finally decided to root my note 3

Long time xda fan, first time poster. So, I have a bone stock AT&T Galaxy Note 3 N900AUCUEOC1 running lollipop 5.0. For about a year now I've been contemplating rooting it but I'm worried I'm gonna jack my phone up. Besides replacing my lcd screen I haven't done really too much with it. This will be my first attempt at rooting any phone and I wanted to ask a few questions to get some clarification and direction.
First, what currently is the easiest way to root a droid for someone that doesn't speak a lick of tech?
I've read 10 different ways but if anyone would know, its you guys. Does Kingo work with what I have?
What do I need to do prior to root? I.e, what do I need to download?
Also, could you recommend a decent ROM? Whats a good backup app that will actually work?
Lastly, I have a game ive been playing for a couple years and I dont sign in, it recognizes my phone or something, its on my sd card but will i lose it when I wipe my phone? Thanks in advance for your time.
Cassidy
I would never discourage some one from rooting their phone, however, you have chosen a hard place to start. You need to become familiar with odin, and /or safetrap. There are great instructions already posted, but unless you have a working knowledge of Odin, you are going to cause yourself a great deal of headache.
I suggest finding a friend who has done it, and have them walk you through it the first time.
By the way, I have been rooting Android phone since the original Motorola Droid. And I have this one rooted. But I not so easy for people new to the process.
Any way you go, I hope it works great for you!

Thanks for the concern. I used to be pretty smart. Ive watched and read a ton about odin and I guess people just make it look super easy. I've noticed theres a different variation for every model of droid so I gjust need to find the right one and figure out what to do before and after the video stopped. Im just hoping I can find some help here. Thanks again

Best I seen about Odin with a video http://www.samsungodindownload.com/odin-tutorial/ and this is the Odin I use http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3109599&d=1420980613 Once you think you're ready http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/help/att-note-3-lollipop-t3100657 and post #4 has all the links you need. You are Lollipop so you WILL need to do all four files (first picture shows, if you try the All-In-One you will have problems). I'm on here everyday so if you need any help post here or send a message. I don't mind helping and NO, you do not have to donate to me.
Thanks a bunch Rooted! Thats gonna simplify thing a bunch, I really hope. Ill wait till tomorrow i think. But I appreciate your help, you're a good man.

move the rom, gapps, and supersu over from a computer to your phone, then flash it in twrp. put your phone into recovery, then move them into your phone.
I'm a noob to this stuff so is there any thread with a tutorial or video explaining on how I can do this?

I don't think so, as this is the very basic thing that you should learn before you ever flash anything or before you root your device.
there are several ways you can transfer files, adb push is one, or you can just transfer them over using an option in twrp.
If you can't even drag and drop a file to your phone you shouldn't be flashing roms, this is pretty simplistic and basic... I try to help people but this gets really old everyday its the same thing over and over, sorry for my rant or sounding like a total d*#k!

i actually used to agree with you completely, in 2013 i was fed up with the same questions over and over and over again. then something happened to me that let me see past being fed up. i guess something like seeing the light. ive been nothing but very nice with newbies since. i do see people asking questions over and over again, that should know what they are doing. it those people ill get on, and wont be nice sometime
Anyways to answer your question do as Simms said
1.boot to twrp
2. Plug device to pc
3. After downloading rom, gapps, and SuperSU drag and drop from pc to your nexus 6
4. In twrp click install and install rom, gapps, and SuperSU
5. reboot and if twrp asks to install super user select no
6. Profit!!!
I'll be blunt here.
I have no patience for people looking for a handout. If a noob comes to this forum, does their research beforehand, and then encounters a problem, I'm more than willing to help them out. They at least are trying to learn how to do things on their own.
I place great value on self-reliance, and will reward the self-reliant with as much help as I can provide, within the limits of my experience. The OP on the other hand is on their own. Unlike the self-reliant person, the OP didn't bother to do their homework before attempting to mess around with their device, and on encountering a problem that could have been solved with a simple search, hit XDA Developers for help after the fact.
An increasing number of noobs aren't even bothering to read and understand what they are doing, because they are under the illusion that rooting is somehow cool or will grant them instant street cred. Rooting, as anyone with half a brain knows, is serious business. One wrong step and your shiny new device could become a shiny new paperweight. So, if the OP is unwilling to help themselves through simple research, how will giving the answer to them teach them anything?

Noob wanting to root

Hello, I'll get straight to the point.
I've been itching to root my phone since I got it back in launch. I have verizon sm-n950u android version 7.1.1 which to my understanding means nougat. NOW I am a casual rooter, I watch tutorial videos and read how-to threads over and over and over and still manage to miss a crucial/key step and get stuck in a bootloop of some sort before coming here, begging for help via thread resurrection, or just with more searching but with random key words.
I ask you, anyone who is able and willing, help. I'm ready to root, yes I can/have read some of the posts, but the terminology in some of them are not noob friendly. A lot of it assumes I should already know the basics but really I don't. I can work my way around odin, but that's about it. Normally i'd be all over anything freeza makes but he's moved on to a different phone now it seems, no more samsung.
I'm hoping someone can help me to pretty much root and get xposed framework. All the roms are very nice but are a bit too advanced for me atm because I dont know what any of the features they have mean.
Thanks and sorry for the rambling post that you probably all get all the time.
Hi. Not to discourage you but you may wish to know that if you root, you will trip Knox and lose access to Secure Folder and Samsung Pay.
No way to get them back.
Which modules in xposed do you want/need?

Wrong. He is Snapdragon. Warranty bit isnt tripped. so returning to stock gets back secure folder and sammy pay no problems. Also Xposed DOES NOT WORK on Snapdragon models at the moment. Anyway Also agree with you that he shouldnt root. If he doesnt understand even half of whats said on a fairly noob free guide then its not for him.
OP, do you even know WHY you want to root?
What is in Xposed, that you need so bad?
Like the other posters here, I agree; there is NO WAY you should mess with your 1000 dollar phone until you gain ALOT more knowledge
We do not discuss lucky patcher on XDA...
Hey sorry for the late response(currently at youmacon) and I appreciate the thoughtful replies. As I think I mentioned. I've been a fan of freeza's work I've rooted my past phones with his beast mode kernels. I might have overplayed my ignorance, but it's mostly because the lingo itself can be rather daunting, especially when looking at all the amazing roms being released.
I want exposed so I can try to get at least SOME of the features back that i had on my note 3. An app that cant be named itself is enough for me to root. Idk what the Samsung folder thing is and I don't intend to use Samsung pay either. I'm not all that afraid of tripping Knox, I'm more afraid of being stuck in a boot loop.
Edit: had to re-send this without mentioning a certain app. That was my bad mods and admin, I was unaware.

Xposed still doesnt work
So I'm still waiting anyway lol. So at this point there's really no reason for a guy like me to root. Most of what I wanted all came from xposed.
Sorry for wasting everyone's time, you dudes are helpful as always.
