I like to keep my hands in my pockets because of reasons, and since this phones fingerprint sensor is so sensitive(well, good, actually), I'm constantly unlocking it, while in my pocket. Any solution to this? And no, I won't change my lock style, because this one is the fastest and most useful all around.

Have you tried just putting your phone in your pocket screen side out, probably not the greatest idea without a tempered glass screen protector, but thought that may be a funnier answer.
One a more serious answer, isn't that what touch disable mode is used for in smart assistance. To stop random presses or functions when in a pocket or bag, I would assume that uses the proximity sensor to detect its in your pocket, I know my phone vibrates when I put my hand in my pocket and I touch the fingerprint sensor, but it never comes on until its out side the pocket.

Even with Touch-Disable, fingerprint still unlock the phone. I just tested, covering the sensors and unlocking with fingerprint, but i don't know if inside the pocket it's using some other sensor.
I consider it a bug, but maybe Huawei decided to go this way for other reasons (flip covers maybe?).

I literally can't understand **** you're saying, but whatever, it's a bug. Yeah your phone vibrates when it detects a wrong fingerprint, but that's not what I'm asking.

Way to speak to someone offering a reasonable answer, sort it out yourself then bud.

I tried n it unlocked even this feature turn on - is a bug.

Same issue with regular mate 10. Screen gets unlocked while the fingerprint gets activated in pocket even with the smart settings on. May be update will fix it

Unless I use my thumbprint I set up the screen won't turn on.
If the screen is on but not yet unlocked, it says unblock phone to unlock.
I'm thinking it's working pretty well since the screen won't come on draining the battery without my print. Also assuming more battery savings are made by keeping the sensor asleep when the screen is off? Just a thought.

Reset Button Lost- I finally fixed it. HTC... Bad assembly Quality !!!

Suddenly yesterday I can't insert the stylus in its place to the end. It stuck before it's fully inserted in my Diamond. Trying to explore the problem, surprisingly the RED dot of the reset button is not there. I'm going to disassemble the lower part of the phone to see what the problem is. However, I'm trying to find the lost reset button, but I'm searching for something that I don't know what it looks like.
Can someone be kind enough to post a photo of the reset button while taking the battery cover off?
Thanks a lot.

Mean while I founf this page for dismantling it but the part I wanted it's not clear as your photo. http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/razbor-htc-touch-diamond/index.html
Thanks again.

As you probably still have waranty you shouldn't disassemble it yourself. Bring it back to the shop you have it from and have them repair your device.
I Fixed It
Finally I was able to fix the problem. Thanks goes to SecureGSM for posting the photo.
After comparing the the photo to my phone and other photos I downloaded it form http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/raz...ond/index.html, I knew what was wrong and I'll try to explain it for the benefit of everybody.
What happen is that a small magnet piece (responsible for holding the stylus) is glued to the phone. And somehow, the it was pulled by the movement of stylus (in & out) and was stuck on the reset button and hide it. !!! very strange.
I had to dismantle the side plastic bar (where the stylus goes in) and re-glued the magned in its place. Then finally assimbled everthing back again.
I just can't believe that the the magnet is fixed with a very weak glue that goes off in less than two weeks of use.
In the attached images I tried to explain how I did it.

Thank you very much for your description of this problem. I experienced the same problem today with my stylus and saw that the magnet was sticking not on his place, but somewhere inside the backside cover.
I only want to know from you if you removed really all the parts inside the diamond to reach the original place of the magnet? Or is it enough just to unscrew just the 2 screws of the steel plate of the stylus holder?
I have fixed it now without unscrewing anything. You just need small fingers and much patience!
Of course it's better to use a new glue strip, but I used the existing one...
I will see how long it works till the magnet is again placed anywhere in the cover
Hopefully this will not happen again! You just have to watch out, not to use the stylus outside on the right side of the diamond.
I never knew the diamond had a soft reset button till now atleast
On the matter of build/assembly quality - is anyone else finding there pressure sensitive Enter/OK/Select (or whatever you want to call it) key slightly going deeper into the groove of the panel [Home,Back,Answer,End panel)? Mine is no longer sitting flush with the panel and I can feel that it has been 'pushed' in.

RunGPS on diamond

Hi all
I have some troubles with rather GPS soft like RunGPS Trainer, that cannot control diamond power mode
when i switch off screen, gps and wifi modules switched off too, so I cannot record tracks in RunGPS.
RunGPS can lock screen, but hardkeys still work and screen work too so charge is over too short
anyone use RunGPS? How I can recording tracks with screen blank off and keys locked?
In Run.GPS I just press lock screen (the little lock at the bottom) and it keeps power on but backlight minimal. Or I just use a Bluetooth GPS which is more accurate anyway.
I know about lock button and write about it
but as i wrote, hardkeys stil work! I cannot lock device normally
Your advice about external GPS is unusable too
-you must have it every time you want to use RunGPS (walking in the park for example)
-you must buy it
may be anyone knew program that can lock device completely but disable turn off? Something Like S2U2 but without poweroff?
Or may be we can disable automatic gps off? Wifi disables too by default, but I can tweak it
Go into Settings - Configuration - general settings - When application is locked - lock keys also, use center key for start/stop
Hey, guys
maybe you try to read all I wrote? in diamond this setting is not working! It is not lock even power button
and screen stil work!!! this is not solution! I wrote about it in my first post
Hi,
Works fine on my MDA Compact. Did you check the site for the manual configuration of the GPS. I had to set this to get it to read altitude.
Regards
I use this program about 3 years and I know all it settings
Works fine on MDA Compact? Great, but this is Diamond topic!
AFAIK there is no GPS on MDA Compact (this is Qtek s100, correct?), so there is no problem with built in GPS, you can just turn off device!
And I repeat - lock device button didn't turn off screen
this is stupid solution. Battery lifetime in diamond is small and with powered on screen it is minimal
A simple solution would be just to keep it differently, like in a running armband or on your belt. With the little lock button battery consumption is minimal.

Here is my Diamond armband
I tend to start off, turning on my music, then start up Run.GPS, hit the start button, then press the little screen lock on the Run.GPS screen, I have Run.GPS speak to me every 30 seconds to tell me, Pace, Distance and speed.
If the device screen turns off, you just hit the top stand by button once to turn on screen again.
Generally I just run, listen to music, let Run.GPS tell me the rest...
The Belkin Ipod Classic armband is perfect
If the device screen turns off, you just hit the top stand by button once to turn on screen again.

I keep it differently
but I can accidentally press any key when I get it from it case. And screen work too!!!
I repeat: this is not solution
I don't want: check screen every time I use GPS software / buy mda compact / use dim backlight instead / use music player to turn off screen
enough those answers!
there is two ways to solve this problem as I say
-find tweak to keep GPS on while device is in stand by
-small utility that can lock device and turn off screen, but keep device on (and GPS too)
do you can tell something about those two ways?

Active display while driving, walking, in pocket?

To my understanding the active display sensors use the accelerometer to judge when to turn on - I'm not talking about when it is 'breathing' after you have received and email/text/etc.
Its an awesome feature not having to go to the home screen to see this stuff. (Though when you do unlock the phone from active display you get a brief flash of the home screen - I wish it would skip it completely)
However, I'm not convinced it really does 'turn off' in my pocket since when I carry it in my hand and walk a few feet, it is constantly going on and off due to any motion. Same with inside my car. Any bumps, stops, acceleration, etc that causes the phone to jiggle even a little (usually its in a cup holder or something like that) lights up the display. I know the battery drain is supposed to be very small with it.
What are your thoughts on this? On one hand its an awesome feature that I don't want to turn off but wish it wasn't so quick to wake in the vehicle or presumably in your pocket. In any kind of city driving it will be constantly going on and off, on and off.
Also, does the active display count as screen on time? I read somewhere that its only reported under Android OS?
Try this:
Cover your sensors, wait couple of seconds move it (without uncovering them) and try to activate active display, it should not do anything.
Thats exactly what happens in your pocket (I THINK)
It's very touchy and I wish I could turn off the motion sensing just because the time flashing on and off is annoying. It barely uses battery though. Less than 1% according to my gsam stats on a full discharge
You can disable Moto Actions to stop the motion sensing.

I'm pretty sure what you're talking about only disables the hand approach motion turning it on. (which is also annoying as of anything moves over your phone the screen turns on).
He is talking about movement of your phone turning display on which I believe is annoying too, perhaps more annoying than a hand motion to turn it on.

Your right. The movement sensor appears to be a part of Moto Display. When I disabled that, the screen no longer turned on with the phone movement.
I'd like to know if the motion thing can be disabled separately as well. I like being able to wave my hand over the motion sensor to activate the ambient display, but don't like that the thing comes on every time I accelerate in my truck.
The "proximity sensor" that turns the screen off when you hold the phone to your cheek during a phone call is supposed to disable to the Ambient display, so when the phone is in your pocket, or upside down on your truck car seat, the display shouldn't be coming on, or turning on from phone movement. Try it - cover up the top 1/4" of the phone (where the camera is etc), and then try and wake the phone - I can't get mine to do anything.
I have a cubby hole in my truck where the phone fits nicely and I can still see the screen face up. Sometimes while accelerating the ambient display comes on. That's what makes me think the ambient display acts on the accelerometer as well as the front facing motion sensor.
Yep the accelerometer is the issue. After reviewing battery logs since I've started using this phone I can see there isn't much drain from the time/black display lighting up all the time and it really doesn't seem to come on in the pocket unless you make sudden movements.
However any time there is acceleration or deceleration at a sharper rate and bumps in the road it lights up. Very annoying. Can't imagine how it is on long drives, etc. And it's stupid to just say "Oh turn it over" most people have their phone in a cup holder or some cubby on their vehicle.
Proximity sensor prevents the display from activating in your pocket, period. Move all you want, the display isn't activating
Display acfivates off movement uncovered as a feature anticipating you're picking up the device to look at it. Those activations are an extremely small fraction of battery usage, not nearly enough to affect you.
I find the sensor extremely annoying and I wish I could disable it. I have the phone next to my laptop and every time I move close to it the time lights up. Very poor design if they didn't anticipate the annoyance factor and no way for one to control it.

You can disable it. Why do you think you can't? Why don't you turn it off instead of complaining about it? While it's on, it's doing exactly what it's supposed to do. Personally, I keep it turned on, because I like it.
Turn off the "wave your hand" feature if you don't like it. Wave works from even from a foot away sometimes. Turn it off, and your phone won't light up when it senses movement.
In CM/LOS based ROMs you turn off the WAVE highlighted feature you see, in Quark Ambient Display:

Just turn off the Wave. (This screenshot was for another post a long time ago, so do not turn off the other setting highlighted.)
Various custom ROMs (Lollipop, Marshmallow, Nougat) have that setting in different places. Usually it's in Gestures, but Settings has a "search" feature you can use if you don't see it immediately.
If you are not running a custom ROM and are still on stock, I assume that setting is still somewhere on stock Moto Display -- because in the periodic debates we have people insist Moto Display has the same level of control as Quark Ambient Display.
Doing a Google Search -- which is quite easy if you want to try it sometime -- I found two answers turning off Wave in Moto Display. See what works for you:
Go to Settings -> Moto -> Actions -> disable 'Approach for Moto Display'.

Area of Touch Screen not responsive!!?

My speakers had become distorted or blown so i bought 2 replacement speakers, i took the phone apart and replaced the lower speaker but when i got to the top speaker i noticed that i had received the wrong speaker. As i wont be getting a replacement speakers for a few days i decided to part reassemble the phone , all ribbon cables have connected, have replaced some but not all of the screws and slightly replaced the rear case but not fully clipped it back in place as i want to be able to easily remove it again once the top speaker has arrived.
Upon powering the phone on i have notice that a certain area of the screen doesn't seem to be responsive any more, it seem to be a vertical area going down the screen where the 'W', 'S' and 'Z' keys are on the keyboard!. Is this because i haven't fully reassembled the phone or have a buggered part of the touch screen when taking the phone apart?
Have downloaded the screen touch test app from the appstore and ran my finger over the screen and you can clearly see where the screen isnt responding....

Errr yeah that was a ribbon cable that came from the digitizer/screen to the main board...maybe its just not correctly inserted back in the socket. Odd thing is if i touch the area that seems to be unresponsive i can still get the screen to scroll up and down, just doesnt want to seem to work on the keyboard, If i try and press either the w, s or z keys it just presses the key next to it
Yeah this phone doesn't take to being taken apart very well
It sounds like you damaged your parts disassembling or reassembling the phone.

Iris scanner always on and emitting IR

Using the T-mobile Note 9 here, and I've noticed something peculiar. The front facing iris sensor is *always* on, even when it's not lit up red when scanning. Whether the screen is on or off, the scanner is on and sending IR. Even turning off biometrics doesn't stop it. I found this by chance as an infrared detector I have lights up whenever my phone screen faces it. (goes off if I cover the iris sensor).
Why is Samsung keeping the sensor on all the time, even when I turn off biometric unlock?

My best estimate would be that this will be used as the proximity sensor.
OK, false, if you open the sensor test menu in the dialer by keying in "*#0*#", then open sensor test, you will notice that the sensor right next to the IR emitter is the proximity...
Maybe it would assist the proximity?

Isn't this supposed to be bad for the eyes?
Samsung itself says during setup that the iris scanner should not be used on children, and also, when a person uses it, for safety it should be held around 25cm or more from the face..
If it is always on maybe it is better to cover it up?
Yeah, it can damage your eyes. The reason it's supposed to be safe is that your exposure is so low (just when you unlock). But it's on all the time!

I mean, if it is always on, what is the difference from when you are trying to use it to unlock your phone? If it is on all the time, it would be damaging every user's eyes all the time while they are using the phone..
Did you check that it is actually the iris thing sending IR, and not the proximity sensor? E.g. put a small piece of foil on top of a specific hole and see if the IR detector still reacts? (Afaik, proximity sensors using IR should be safe.) Proximity sensor might be "always" on for detecting pocketing as mentioned earlier.
Has this been sorted out?

Please don't bump threads in under 24 hours.
This isn't a bug and it also isn't something to worry about. Unlike others have stated in this thread, the tiny amount of IR that is emitted is so small, it'd never have any health impact.
It's more than likely that OP's detector is picking up the IR from the proximity sensor, a sensor that is constantly on and emitting IR.
Try turning off all these functions and report back.

How did you find that your IR diode is still on? Did you take another phone and via it`s camera notice glowing? Or how else?
I am pretty sure something else is emitting the light and not the iris scanner.
Just to close the loop on this, the Android Pie update has fixed this bug. Now the sensors only emit IR at the lock screen while trying to unlock.

I have an IR detector, which is how I picked up on this issue in the first place with the sensors always emitting IR all the time with Oreo. After the update to Pie, I verified that they are only emitting IR when trying to unlock the phone on the lock screen and they turn off right afterwards.

I've just discovered my Note 9 always has an IR light on, VIA security cam with night vision. It got the Android 10 update recently. I don't know if this was happening before the update.
Does anyone know how to turn it off?
