I'm using eng/rooted rom. Been poking, and learning android system as its quite different from linux.
After factory reset, on the inital screen for phone setup, if you hold Bixby key, and walk voulme key up down up down a few times your greeted with "'PoA' test configuration".
This screen asks for a password, my question is as to what is PoA, what lies behind the password, and if anyone has cracked it.

Any ideas?? I am trying to figure out how to hard reset the phone.
Thanks for any advice!

I ran across this thread. my phone is locked with the pin, and I cannot get the pin to unlock the phone. I tried the softkeys and reset but it gets to the tri color screen and stops. It dosn't prompt for a hard reset.
Hi all,
I hope you can help me a friend has a xperia and he has setup a password for it but with letters and with the touch screen keyboard, but now he can not enter letters only numbers i tried everything(soft reset, hard reset, start up the bootloader etc.) but nothing helps.
I can not connect it to my pc with ActiveSync, i tried several methods to hard reset the device.
- left&right + power button
- left&rigt + soft reset (power + volume button)
- left&right + stylus in back
http://www.xperiax1.net/forum/xperia-x1/546-tutorial-soft-hard-resets.html
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=437607
But nothing works.
Has anyone a solution how i can reset or flash the phone.
The date inside it is not important, important is just to make the phone usable.
Thanks in advance?
Try using the keyboard, DUH. Turn off the function or caps toggles.
The password is CAPS specific also
so if it is something like 2hOmosapian
then if you type down 2homosapian
it will not work, you have to type down exactly as it is suppose to be: 2hOmosapian
Thanks for your help but it doesn't work i tried it several times.
Is it possible to reset the password or to format the phone some how.
I managed to get the touchscreen keyboard on the display and i am entering there teh password but it is not working.
Aojo00 is the password that has been set.

Are you using the updated ROM version or the original?
I have updated my ROM version during March
Does anyone has a solution for this problem?
First, the passwort-protection is useful if your X1 gets stolen, therefore any hint given in an anonymous forum on how to override this does not feel right for me. If official bought I would go to SE service.
Don´t yell at me because I bring that up, but if "your friend" has bought the X1, beeing aware of using a business PPC with WinMob, with all the opportunities to tweak, tune, configure, so not a simple mobile phone, why does he ask you to help him with his password?
But if the password is the one your friend has set, and everything is legal, I wonder if the "0" (zeros) could be "O"´s or "o"´s, too much of them in the password for my taste.
Sorry, but even if my thoughts are not correct in your special case, you will agree that we should not help people with this toppic without asking questions, right?
There is an important side i would like to bring up.
I believe that there is a lock after certain times of invalid entries, in other words.. after some wrong entries, the system will lock down for some time even if you have entered the valid password during that lock-time.
So, my advice is to keep nice interval between each bunch of trials, say 10 min. top
Am i missing something?
Isn't there a puck code? To be used after failing to enter the correct password after three times?
left /rigth +vol down +power is correct
I wish I had backed up my data before updating mine. I just trusted AT&T and Samsung and lost all my data. Here is my story:
1) After 4-5 tries, I was able to get update and it successfully installed.
2) Tried my gps but did not see any improvements, so I decided to rebooted my phone
3) After rebooting, I noticed that I was not able to enter letters for my password (after update it only allows you to enter digits) so there is no way to enter password
4) Spent almost 2 hours with at&t and samsung but no help, at&t store offered to give me a new phone, but doesn't want to do so until I can recover my data
I can still receive call on my phone, just cannot unlock to get to the homescreen. After couple of more reboots, now even the little keyboard has changed to a numeric keypad, weird.
Samsung said there was a 50% chance I will not loose my data, I do not understand what that means. How can you not know how your software behaves
I would appreciate if anyone knows and can help me recover data (pics and videos) from my phone before I master reboot (Samsung said that might work). any trick? hack? anything?
I am seeing similar problem. I reported it in my other thread.
After I read your post, i got a sense of what the problem is.
The samsung keyboard that comes up while typing screen unlock password is messed up by this update.
In my case, i am trying to set a numeric password for screen unlock(my exchange email enforces screen lock password). A numeric keyborad turns up on the screen. I noticed something wierd. The numeric keyboard has a key labelled '123'. The '123' key usually shows up on a qwerty keyboard in phone. Pressing this button brings up numeric keyboard. In my case(possibly your case as well), It appears that the software doesn't recognise that it is already showing a numeric keypad. Funny thing is that, when I type using the numeric keyboard, it is actually typing numbers in password field. But, it complains that I need to set up a numeric password though I am setting a numeric password.
If you endup doing master reset, pls share how it goes.

any update? I received my new phone and it seems to work fine.
This issue has been driving me mad for the past couple weeks. I'm at my wits' end and I need some expert help to figure this out. Please read this post thoroughly to understand my situation, as this is not a simple matter of uninstalling some apps.
When I first got my Note 9, the screen lock button worked perfectly. The screen would immediately turn on when I pressed the button, and it would immediately turn off when I pressed it again. However, once I got the Android Pie update, the screen lock button stopped working properly. The screen still turns on immediately, but there's about a 0.5 second delay after I press the button to turn it off. It's a relatively small issue, but it's enough to bother me.
I attempted to fix this by performing a system reset. But this did not help. In fact, this issue is still present even before completing initial setup of the phone.
When you perform a system reset, the first screen you see when your phone restarts is the welcome screen. It contains a "start" button that you press to begin setup. On this screen, the lock button issue does not happen. My phone locks and unlocks correctly. On the next screen, you connect to a wifi network. After connecting to a wifi network, the lock button issue becomes present. In other words, this issue with the lock button is present before I even start using the OS, or install any apps, or really do anything at all. It seems to be triggered by connecting to a wifi network during setup.
So I figured there must be something wrong with the firmware. So I used Odin to flash an earlier firmware version. This did not solve the issue. I even tried installing an unlocked firmware version, on the offchance that my carrier (AT&T) was doing something weird. This did not help either.
I have no idea where to go from here. I thought that a system reset is supposed to completely wipe everything from your phone, so that it behaves exactly how it did when I first got it. But that's not the case. It seems like something is carrying over that's causing this issue. Does anybody have any idea what I should do?
Do you have lock instantly with power key on?

It is probably the double tap power button to open camera feature. You can toggle it off and locking will be instant.
If its already off, there my be an accessibility service listening key presses.

This delay issue is so silly but it annoys the hell out of me. Where did you turn off this feature in Pie?
Update: Found it. Just use the search box in settings and type in "camera" (or whatever it is in your language). The "double tap power" setting will get listed.
Thanks alot,
Watz
I even turned off the double press for camera app but I'm still noticing a 0.5 sec lag when i press the side key
I even restarted after changing the setting
Nothing is happening
Please help

Thank you bro.
What happened:
Stock ROM, unrooted
I was using my Note 9 all morning, put it down, came back later and it asked for my pin. Biometric input did not work and can't get to the swipe screen.
What I tried:
I've entered the correct pin numerous times and it just tells me to wait 30 seconds and try again.
I can't use Samsung Find my Mobile since it was never configured
I can't power off, as it just asks for the pin again
I can't start in Safe mode, as it just asks for the pin again
Any help/suggestions would be most welcome

Long press power+vol down will force restart. But I don't see how it's going to help.
That worked!

Believe it not, rebooting was the key. After that, it took the pin and I was back in business.
Thanks for the tip! I had assumed there was no way to restart, so I'm super happy now.
