Hello guys,
today i rooted my Huawei Mate 10 pro and tought i could write a Guide because no one else did atleast i didnt find a usefull Guide
So first of all
it always can happen that your Phone bricks in that case its your own fault.
I take no responsibility for any Damage on your Phone.
At the first Step you have to Download all the things you need (DL Links are on the Bottom of the posts )
So here is what you need: TWRP for the Huawei Mate 10 pro, and the Magisk files (ZIP & APK) and ADB minimal + Windows 10 FIX
Your Bootloader must be unlocked (Very simple just google it)
Your Phone should have at leaste 80% Power
So now that we have Downloaded everything and unlocked the Bootloader we can Finally start.
Hard part ... installing TWRP
At First you have to flash the Recovery for this you have to connect your Phone to the PC and allow the USB Debugging
The you start the ADB Minimal Tool and typ the following command:
ADB reboot Bootloader
after the Phone changed sucessfully into the Botloader you type the next Command
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk [ Filepath\TWRP.img ]
without the Brackets
after the Files are Transfered you have TWRP already installed
Now to the easyer part ... installing MAGISK and MAGSIK Manager
At first you have to boot into recovery with the following command:
adb reboot recovery
After you ran the command you Phone will be in the TWRP recovery
The next Step is to navigate to the Advanced settings in TWRP and click ADB Sideload
and Swipe right without ticking any Checkbox there.
Now you have to run the next Command
adb sideload [ Filepath\Magisk.zip ]
After the Files are Transfered you just have to restart the phone and get the MAGISK Manager on your
Phone. Don't Download MAGISK from the PlayStore look for it here on XDA.
When you made no Mistakes and I made no mistakes in my Guide your Phone should be rooted if you see
any mistakes i made please tell me so i can correct them
Edit:
Thanks to ante0 for providing the links
Thats all you need.

Same problem I guess: rooted with SU, and now I can't root with Magisk:

I'm having the same problem on C636 and racking my brains out trying to figure out a way to get rid of SuperSU and install Magisk without losing all my stuff. Does anyone know of a way?
Any one knows if this method will turn your camera to crap and remove the drm keys? Some people have reported this as an issue.

Can't say about the DRM keys but the Camera looks good. Only thing is that Snapchat has this oil painting looking vibe going on. I can't remember if it was like that before hand
I had rooted my Mate 10 Pro (C432) with SuperSu. Afterwards i tried to switch to magisk but had problems. Installed stock firmware and rooted with magisk. I decided to use magisk because of many problems with SuperSu.

İ didn't used any software like update.app etc. İ used the app firmware finder (can be found in playstore) in order to download and install the stock rom.

Just tried rooting the phone for the first time. Not too familiar with rooting. Only done a few phones before.
Unlocked boot loader on dev site. Installed TWRP just fine. Installing root package went fine, but I was unable to install busybox. It would either fail to install, or crash the phone and reboot. I found a root + busybox zip, flashed that, and then SuperSU said I wasn't rooted at all! Tried flashing the old SuperSU root package again, but I'm still not rooted anymore. Can someone give me a quick fix for this please?
Thanks.
Is there anyone that can give me some advice? It would be MUCH appreciated!
hi friend ..
i'm also new about rooting hTC (1st time).i'd like to help, but not good enough on explanation ..i root my hTC One on day 2nd bought it.Might some help from youtube and xda topics about unlock bootloader, s-off & rooting.
after u done unlock bootloader, just download twrp zip or cwm zip..extract it copy twrp file (img) on fastboot folder (on pc drive with fastboot files for unlock bootloader process).
right click img file to open as cmd. Then type "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" then press enter..if u see word just like okay u can go back to bootloader mode, select recovery if u see word on top of screen while htc booting mode that's mean u already done flashing recovery.wait just 2 second, twrp should appear..u should download superSU or super user early put on ur sd then u flash it use twrp..check ur root status use root checker or titanium backup.lastly u tap on superSU or super user icon to update binary (for this method i'm not sure u need to update or not) might somebody got any best answer..
sorry for bad english & too simple methods.

Hi,
anyone tried to flash TWRP 3.1.0? https://dl.twrp.me/vienna/
Maybe succesfully rooted the P9+ with it?
Regards
Flashed on B360 but still unable to enter TWRP Recovery, just stuck on bootscreen "Your device has been unlocked..."

Any update for successful root ?????
FYI.... I'm on L29C636B362 and have full root, however I'm struggling to exchange the emojis to iOS 10.2 as I can't stand the android ones...
I used the EVA TWRP 3.1.0 and it works fine with the latest phh SuperUser ZIP and binary.

No, can you give me the link or if there is any thread on the forums. I did the phone unlocked, loaded the new TWRP and then I tried to load the various SuperSu, with negative results. In fact, failing to have the root are returned to the previous version of Andorid (Marshmallow).

Go with the phone in bootloader and through the tool Universal_Fastboot_And_Adb_Tool loads the file that you find in this mega folder: mega:#fm/n5JlDJbT I shared. See that the language is Chinese and English.
You can also install it with command-ADB Fastboot if you back better.

Okay I installed the TWRP from this package and was able to boot into TWRP (3.03) recovery and change the language to english. I tested a nandroid backup and all seems to work fine. I was not able to install phh superuser. The install fails with: "Updater process ended with Error 1". I guess I am missing a crucial step in rooting Nougat on the VIE-L29C636 ROM?
Hello, I too with the new TWRP I managed to back up and restore her, but miss the fact that we can have the rott. I tried to install the various 'SuperSu', 'phh superuser' and not least 'Magisk', not get anything good. Now I left clean, no bootloader unlocked and no TWRP. but its original recovery, waiting for some of the many programmers and modders are able to find a winning combination in order to have the root on our phone. One reason for the only backup I am using the app 'Backup Huawei' already installed it does its job very well, in qunto also saves the settings that we do. See you soon and good navigation and use with this amazing phone.

Thank you for the response. I did use the same TWRP version from the linked site. It's actually v3.0.3. It installs and works fine; to the extent that I was able to successfully complete a nandroid backup in TWRP. However, when I tried to install phh Superuser r2.75 it fails with message "Updater process ended with Error: 1". Is it possible that I needed to uninstall/remove the previous root (SuperSu) that existed before I upgraded from MM to Nougat?

root can be achieved with systemless root. i think the version is 2.79 found in the p9 forums. i rooted my p9+ with the latest nougat earlier today. twrp is now 3.1.0.
Steps:
Prepare and Notice
A. Warning! Flash phone might get it bricked. I am not responsible for it.
B. Important! Remove Huawei "HiSuite" application if it's already installed. It may interfere script running.
C. Only tested ALP-AL00C00 same brand upgrade and downgrade packages.
D. Backup data, it might be restore factory default setting especially using downgrade ROM version.
E. Update package will be put in the internal /data partition.
F. Unlock bootloader before flash steps, use unlock.bat in "HWOTA8_Mate10" lock directory.
G. After update successfully, device might be locked again.
H. Get HWOTA8_Mate10 Package (HWOTA8_Mate10_2018052301_Remove_ota_rebrand.zip)
I. Windows10 can't recognize mate 10 fastboot device, see dc-unlocker free registry patch to fix it. (Link)
J. Mate 10 has imei in oeminfo, which is used for unlock bootloder not for system. Run lock/info.bat to see oeminfo IMEI.
Magisk (Thanks to @topjohnwu)
A. Install Magisk by running magisk/magisk.bat and follow instructions.
B. Install Huawei Wifi Fix module (Huawei-Wifi-Fix_v1.0_1500_2018041201.zip), if wifi is not working. [Not Must]
C. Join or dig more information from Magisk forum.

Its for the first time ever i am unable to unlock the boot loader, i obtained the boot loader unlock code by the following method for my mate 10. Don't know whats went wrong , when i try to unlock the boot loader in fastboot its giving an error. anyone can guide me on this?
Edit: I logout the Huawei Id and also set the usb debugging to Manufacture Mode by using *#*#2846579#*#* and then tried to unlock the boot loader and it worked as a charm.

First got to Settings/System/Developer option and chec OEM-unlockin to be ENABLED!
for flashing twrp-recovery may be need to unlock the bootloader by code but it should work only with OEM-unlocking enabled

Also, can I flash Stock Nougat (using fastboot) after this? And is there any chance of my device being hardbricked?

No! you cant flash a full nougat rom with fastboot.
Bootloader cant be downgraded!
for hardbricked phones you have first to boot it using the sdcard img.
then when you get bootloader working without sdcard, can use this tutorial

Oh ok. Thank You very much
I successfully rolled back to 7.1 using this method. No errors or issues. Everything worked flawlessly. A big thank you @vaserbanix
What are the problems with 8.1? I'm still on Android 7 (RETEU)

1. Oreo Battery drains considerably faster than 7.1. (But charges faster too)
2. Fingerprint unlocks slower than 7.1
3. Lags slightly when doing intensive tasks.
Now we need a maintainer for (a) Nougat rom(s)..

LOS14.1 has been updated:
NEW BUILD: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid...63190603848665
Change log: November 18 Security Update
NOTE: Like so many other users, I too updated my device with OREO and stuck with that. I haven't tried downgrading it because I don't want to end up with a hard-bricked device once again. Point here is the new build is not tested. So please take a TWRP backup before using this build. Don't forget to post me even if works fine.
Thanks,
KS

I would like to get this in particular: [MONTANA_NPP26.102-49-14]

Thank you so much for your feedback, ShattrdChain! :good:
May I know what rom did you use for flashing with this method?
And do you know if bootloader needs to be unlocked in order to downgrade with this guide?
TWRP method doesn't work (bootloop), pls fix or delete.

Its works great.
You can also use fastboot to downgrade!
can the downgrade be done without the bootloader unlocked?
the methods don't work for xt1799-2!
I've tried multiple rooting programs to try to root the phone, but none of them seem to work. So my question is, has anyone figured out a working method to get root? (I've unlocked the boot loader already)

If you go into developer options it allows you to unlock the bootloader.

All that does is ALLOW the bootloader to be unlocked - it doesn't unlock it.
I just unlocked the bootloader
Used adb
"Fastboot flashing unlock"
Next im gonna try to apply root
Wish me luck
I have just ordered this phone. Will hopefully be able to share backup copies of ramdisk(boot) to be used with magisk to give root
Well if anyone is Interested in trying out mtk-su to get system-less, boot-less root it should work. It worked with my umidigi phone that also has mtk p70 soc. And running pie.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/amazing-temp-root-mediatek-armv8-t3922213
Here is device back up script project I had done based on that mtk-su.
https://github.com/mrmazakblu/Root-Backup-Helper
My test of using mtk-su did not work out.
But i do have backup copy of the stock boot.img , install magisk manager (currently i used V 7.3.4, after magisk update, V20 caused device trouble. Recommend stay with mahisk v19.3) and patch the boot.img from link below, then flash with "fastboot flash boot /file.name" to have full root.
here is stock boot file

:::UPDATE::10-27
Successfully flashed magisk with twrp. But because the current twrp has no working touchscreen. It was done with ADB commands.

You can follow full guide found on magisk thread.
Here is general steps.
1. Install magisk manager app
2. Select install. Choose option to patch local file.
3. When complete, copy that patched_boot.img to PC
4. Fastboot flash boot patched_boot.img
I did not share the patched boot.img. you need to do this step on your own. Is better that way.

I feel maybe I was too general in the steps. (not enough detail) sorry.
If you got to the part when it is loading patched_boot
then you got past the patching part.
so, you need to find the patched_boot.img . It should be in the download folder on device
copy this to your PC.
reboot phone to bootloader mode.
then open terminal in same window as the copied patched_boot.img file, or use the full path name in the command.
In the following example, the patched_boot.img file is saved in c:\adb
Code:
adb pull /sdcard/Download/patched_boot.img c:\adb\
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash boot c:\adb\patched_boot.img
fastboot reboot

Do you mean, flashing gsi image, or editing things on stock system. I have been focussed on tarp, and my tried either case.
I can do that soon and confirm if system is freeze.
OK, first time i tried to flash GSI here it is failed.
used fastboot flash system **gsi.img**
(phh v119)
it flashed without error, but will not go past bootloader splash screen. --ODD
will try again later

Well all depends on what system files you have changed.
I was able to delete the system private-app file "blu-ignite" (an unauthorized app installed program) without freezing system.
I was on magisk 19.3. when I try to update to magisk v20 then I have issues. Freezes, wifi not turn on, ect. So try to restore stock, and Will have to use custom update Chanel with magisk to force it to use the older version.
I am also trying to see if twrp can be used tethered, to install magisk. By using "adb shell twrp sideload" command. And sideloading the magisk file.
If, when I see it works I can write the the whole process.
