Its just sinking in for me.. im kind of bummed about it.
The measly 4GB on the diamond with NO means of expansion is not enough.
The iphone offers 8 and 16.. even the freaking Samsung Tocco is being given away with 8GB card.

No.. I absolutely detest the iPhone.
I already have my diamond, but tonight (as I put loads of music on my device) ive been thinking about it more and more... why didnt HTC put at least 8GB in it or add a Micro SD slot.
Other than that, I absolutely adore my diamond. Its a fantastic device and a great upgrade to my HTC Touch.
The whole 'mine is bigger than yours' thing doesn't bother me.
It's a phone, not an entertainment system for me.
I always carry a usb drive and am rarely far from a real pc.
When I ordered it I hadn't noticed the lack of card slot and I've only ever had a 2gig card in my previous smartphones. Maybe I just don't understand the concern to have so much on a media player but then again I did used to buy C120 tapes for my walkman

I cant remember the exact figure but it would add several mm to the device to put in a MicroSD slot so that's the main reason they didnt. There may also be power savings and speed improvements but i beleive the size issue was the most important.

Second the notion! One of the best things the Diamond has is its size!
Perfect size, you boys are forgetting the SIZE.

Turns into one too you try and do anything clever on it ;-)
I'm syncing my diamond to my iMac(itunes) using missing sync, so I'm not really sure whether this is possible using media player on windows, haven't been using windows for years so I have no idea as to it's playlist capabilities...
I've got two playlists that I'm syncing (everytime my diamond connects, basically every night) the first one I add music to as I please (songs I have to actually add to the playlist)... The second however consists of songs played less than three times... I have a pretty large library and my diamond pretty much always have music on it that I'm not tired of, hence I find the 4Gb quite sufficient. This is also available for videos, or video podcasts (if you use your diamond as a video player)
They'll comeout with one with more memory, until then, go to www.modmyifone.com:)

I absolutely agree. Everyone knows that the Diamond has 4Gb and is not expandable. Pretty pathetic really if they buy it and then realise they want more space.
I have stored 100+ pics, 15 hours of music and installed all programs in the internal storage - and I still have 2,4 GB free.

Not really. Its like anything else, you buy it thinking it'll be fine - its only when the space runs out that you realise you want more.
And no - dont go suggesting the iphone as an alternative, to me its a compromise. I want a kick ass Windows Mobile device. The diamond is damn near perfect apart from the storage issue. Curious HTC went this route as
1) Flash memory is very cheap. Hardly any cost difference between 4GB and 8GB
2)A Micro SD slot will not impact size that much
Do any of you think there will be any third party solutions (adaptors of some sort?)

The forum is for trying to solve a problem and sharing information.
Moaning - perhaps understandable to a certain limit.
Now, you know there is nothing you (or anyone else can do) about the 4 GB internal sotrage that you got with your phone.
If there is a new version of the diamond, with more memory or an external card slot.. someone will definitely share that info.
Unless that's what you were doing, I don't think that moaning is going to get you anywhere or achieve anything.
An exercise in futility.
If you just want to share your opinion, there are plenty of places where you can do so.
Doing it on a forum where people are looking for solutions, not exactly the best approach.
Just my view

Not really - there are workable solutions, for example someone mentioned ORB.. plus I'd like to get into dialogue about the possibility of adaptors..
I wont be dictated to about what I can or cannot talk about.
I mean a thread dedicated to wallpaper on the diamond (Which is near 5 pages long) is more redundant than this one, yet I hear no complaints about that.
Very excited for the PSX emu to come out for android.
Been thinking about buying it for my Nexus, but don't feel like spending money to get a Wii-mote for decent play.
I'm waiting for the Epic 4g to come out to get my PSX on!
The keyboard will be SO perfect for some good emu gaming!
Would be cool if the PS3 controller could work with the PSX emu through bluetooth.

As far as I know, it is a type of bluetooth frequency but needs special drivers to work as a gamepad.
I downloaded psx4droid and have been playing it on my nexus and all of the games I've tried so far have ran with a fair amount of lag. Hoping the hummingbird in the Epic fairs better.... if not ill stick to GBA and SNES emulators.

I wasn't aware it was coming with a 16GB! I'm assuming a generic class 2.
Class 6 16GBs are about 70 bucks on Amazon. Thinking about investing in one of those babies!
But when it comes to PSX roms, 16GB isn't THAT much. Average PSX rom is about 300-700MB, so about 5 games can take up about 2GBs which is a fair amount!

Yeah, the ps3 controllers are definitely Bluetooth. Would be cool. The issue I would think is how the controller pairs, as you need to pair it through USB first (on the ps3). Finding a way to bypass that is the trick

Hi everyone!
do anyone of you know if the Optimus Speed Supports SDXC? (or any Bigger memory cards than 32 Gigs?) Officially, LG said, i believe, it Supports only 32Gigs, however, i`ve read somewhere, that the only Difference between SDHC and SDXC is that SDXC uses the "exFAT" Filesystem! Hardware-wise, even a "old" SD 1.0 reader should be able to read both, SDHC and SDXC its just the right drivers u need... so do anyone of you know, if Android supports the exFAT Filesystem? if android Supports it, i believe so, Android should be able to read/write the Big Cards?
sorry for my horrible english by the way ...

These cards are confirmed working in several Android's now:
http://www.androidnz.net/2011/09/sandisk-64gb-micro-sdxc-cards-confirmed.html
Am guessing that all that is needed for using an SDXC card, is just a driver. As simple as that.
I remember like 5-6 years ago i used to have a pocked pc and it was when SDHC standards arrived, and by just installing a 2kb file or smthn, they were completely usable on any old Device. So am guessing the same thing applies here...

This is true. There is technically no difference between between the SDHC and SDXC-cards, just the size. You need a file-system which supports >32GB-cards. (I have a transformer, which has built-in support for NTFS, and will happily accept SDXC-cards larger than 32GB provided it's formatted with NTFS.)
I haven't tested if any ROM for the O2X can mount SD-cards with anything else than FAT, but it's easy enough to test I guess. Just format a(ny) card with ext2/3 and insert it. If it's recognized it should be possible to use cards >32GB.
Did neither of you guys see my post? These are working in Android devices, no special drivers needed. I don't think anyone has tried in a 2x specifically, but I would be surprised if they didn't work.

So basically all u have to do is go to your root of the android phone then into dcim then into camera (where all ur videos and stuff is). Then you A. place the movie in there keeping in mind its the correct format and your done. Or B. go a step further and if its 3d make a folder called "3d" inside dcim so dcim/3d/movie of your choice. This got it working for me hope i could help yah out

Gear VR Innovator Edition 16gb Samsung SDcard (Note 4 )
It has a full backup of a Samsung Gear VR SDcard for the note.
Hi
What is the largest size SD card the HD+ can take as of today? I have seen posts talking about 64GB. Just to make sure that is it as far as capacity.
Trying to decide if i should buy the 16GB or 32GB model.
The 32GB model seems to have quite a premium on it on the used market, so it seems the 16GB mpdel and a SD card would be better value.
Next thing is the battery issue. What are the chances that a used HD+ battery will have much, if any, life left in it?
Read an interesting thread here today (been reading about HD+ all day) about a guy who used 2 x Sony batteries. So the batteries can be replaced and those sony batteries will be around for a fair while (new phone model they come out of) so seems the nook can go on and on as far battery replacement goes.
Why a Nook HD+ ? Its the only tablet i can find with no camera other than an IPAD 1. I've given up on the IPAD 1 - much much too much messing around trying to get decent modern apps on it.
My useage is mainly movies, music and ebooks. I think the HD+ is the right choice.
Thanks for any heads up/opinions
*edit*......
Guess another way i could have said this is, will the HD+ take a 200GB card? If not what is the max size storage i can attach either by SD card, or USB host method ?
You are better off paying the premium for the 32GB model. Since the device uses an emulated internal SD, the extra space internally is critical. After the system is set up you are left with only an 8GB internal SD on the 16GB model. And most apps will only use the internal SD. Many apps will not even recognize the external SD. And I only have heard of the 64GB card working, don't know about larger.
And the factory battery comes charged at 50% and I would expect a new device to have a good working battery. Used devices could have a bad battery.

Ok thanks for that info - that's really critical to know. Well i already bought the 16GB model and its being sent to the freight consolidator, so too late on that one.
But the next few I buy will be the 32GB model. I intend to buy 3 or 4 and have them all sent in one go. That way i should be able to end up with 1 or 2 that work OK.
I will stick with the 64GB cards - class 4 is what i think i saw mentioned here, so will look for those.
Thanks for the heads up.
My intended usage is movie viewing, listening to music and reading books. That's pretty much it. I dont expect to use it for browsing or anything else really.
Will Mx player, a music player app and an e-reader work OK in the 8GB left over internally? Media can go on the 64GB Micro SD card, and if i can get OTG working, i can use an SSD drive and/or a USB memory stick.
The only reason i want the Nook HD+ is for media consumption.
If you are not going to be using the SD to run a rom, you do not need to restrict yourself to class 4. I doubt you could find a 64 in class 4 anyway.
You have not said whether you are going to run stock or a custom rom.
You can use one of my utilities to swap the internal and external SDs. But, for the swap to work the SD must be formatted fat32. Most 64GB cards are not. See my CWM thread. Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2062613 item 4.
And yes the apps will work with the 8GB and it will hold a lot of books and some music. Movies will gooble it up fast.

You are very correct - cant find a 64GB card in Class 4. Struggling to find a 32GB card in Class 4.
BUT - if i dont plan to run from SD then you say i dont need to restrict to class 4 - so would this one be OK ?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820173109
I want to run a custom ROM. I have downloaded lots of files for CM11 - My plan would be to use CM11 as a base ROM to fall back too if a 12.1 ROM proves to be unstable for me. Ultimate goal would be to run Lollipop if i can. I only want to watch movies, listen to music and read books - no need of browsing etc, email and the like as i wont have any wi-fi anyway.
This is waaaaay to far in advance right now but just curious...... is it possible to get a ROM that has wi-fi removed or not functional?
Thanks for your input. Doing lots and lots of reading here, feel like i am starting to make sense of it all,
I have bought the new 16GB model and now also have 2 x 32GB used HD+'s as well.
I need, the USB connector, OTG cable ??, a power bank so i could try to use an SSD drive, micro SDXC cards.
Cant think of anything else right now other then maybe a USB charger from RAVPOWER or ANKA or similar as the power supply that comes with the HD+ wont fit our wall sockets here.
Other then that, i think thats it.
Cheers and beers to you all.

You are very correct - cant find a 64GB card in Class 4. Struggling to find a 32GB card in Class 4.
BUT - if i dont plan to run from SD then you say i dont need to restrict to class 4 - so would this one be OK ?

I want to run a custom ROM. I have downloaded lots of files for CM11 - My plan would be to use CM11 as a base ROM to fall back too if a 12.1 ROM proves to be unstable for me. Yes that SD works fine.
CM11 has been know to brick some HD+ devices. I recommend CM10.1.3. It is fast, safe and stable on the HD series. You don't need anything any more advanced than that for what you want to use it for.
I don't know anything about OTG.

Thank you for the info and the heads up on 10.1.3. Is that JellyBean then?

Doing extensive deep dive into this...... reading so much its all becoming a blur and will have to re-read it all
From the extensive research i have done it seems every CM ROM has issues. Ver 10.1, 10.2, 10.3 have had users report issues of various types. CM 11 seems to have issues from time to time as does CM12.
Given this, is there any real difference between using 10.3 and 11.x.x ? Fro what i read KitKat 4.4.4 makes better use of resources as an OS and that this helps the HD+ ???
I am just trying to figure out if i should run with 10.3 or an 11 or 12 ROM?
Another question, not that this matters right now but interested to know....... the screen res. Its 1080P. Does it make a difference if i encode video files at 720P for the screen of the HD+ that has native 1080P? I would hate to spend a huge amount of time encoding down to 720P only to find it looks terrible because the native res is 1080P.
I can make my video files so much smaller encoding to 720P rather then 1080P. I would think on a 9" screen it would be little if any visible difference between 1080P and 720P encoded from a Blue Ray ?

video on HD+ looks good at all res.
And I told you CM11 is dangerous because it can brick certain models with the vulnerable chips. Stick with CM10.1.3.

OK got it. Best i stop reading now ;}
So 720P it is for me then.
Which are the certain models with vulnerable chips? Always nice to know if the tab you have is vulnerable.

Here is the link to CM Wiki page on the Samsung EMMC Bug:

FWIW CM11 later releases incorporated fixes that avoid triggering this fatal bug on affected devices.
