Alright, can anyone confirm this for me? Wait, lemme start at the beginning...
So I was reading this Android Police article, hoping to get some quoting material for those times when a member thinks USB Fast Charge is the same as Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0...

In fact I own an Mi4 which comes with a 2A charger that is normally supporting quick charge 2.0.
With MIUI it's charging 1.8A (of course 1.8A is around 2A minus phone consumption)
On all custom rom it's just charging max 1.3A with about same consumption, or even less.
So Mi4 support quick charge 2.0 with MIUI but not with any custom rom or kernel.
Anything regarding Mi3 ??

In the attachment 1 that is the stock charger of mi3 , in the attachment 2 that is the current of quick charge without the build.prop line. And in the last attachment that is that current with the buil.prop line.
In conclusion, without the build.prop line the lcd becomes super sensitive but higher current, with the build.prop line the lcd is fine but lower current than before

Must be rom related? In miui i can get 1500+ but lcd gone crazy and in stock i got 1000 below. In ivan i can get around 1900+ average without the lcd going crazy

I don't think a 2A charger is an actual Quick Charger. (Obv it charges quicker compared to 1A ones )
Apparently for Quick Charge 2.0 technology, your Wattage/Power input should be around 18W (wattage is found by multiplying the voltage written on charger, usually 5V with current you're getting in ampere). Quick Charge 1.0 supported upto 10W which we're gettng with the 2A chargers, but I think we need an actual Qualcomm certified Quick Charger (which allow currents of upto 3A apparently) to see QC 2.0 at work.

Yes, this guy is right. 2A charger with 5V output is not a quick charger this guy talking about (Qualcomm Quick Charger 2.0). 12V charger output is.
Mi4 charger comes with 3 voltages 5V-2A, 9V-1.2A, 12V-1A...but maximum we get is 12*1=12W

MI3 is not support any quickcharge. Even you use 2.0A charger, will give you same about 1.2A
What i know is i had Mi3 in past now i have Mi4 and mi4 comes with a Qualcomm Quick charger 12V-1A. It charges way too fast than Mi3 charger.
I use Mi3 Charger 5V-2A on Mi4 it took 2-3 Hours to get fully charged whereas Mi4 Charger takes 1-2 Hours to get fully charged.
It heats up a lot Charger + Mi4 Both
MI3W support QC 2.0, but needed QC 2.0 charger, for example Xiaomi Quick Charger 2.0 aka MDY-3-EB I`m found it here

I'm considering buying this phone over the S7 (although still undecided) and I still don't get the battery thing (charging or battery life, I get people telling me all sorts of contradictory things that I'm having a hard time to fact check). That 9V/2A charger doesn't come with the phone, right? How much faster is that Huawei charger compared with the 5V that comes with the phone and what is it called since I can't find it on their site or anywhere? Is that the Mate 8 charger?

Well, no EU plug still available. But it will be later I think. It is not QC 2 or 3, it won't work. Search for "Huawei 9V 2A Charger".

The photo shows it is 5V 2A charger, so it is a standart, not a Huawei Quick Charge (9V 2A).

i just charge now at 21h59 and 46% i will post the result at 100%
Edit: 100% at 23h02 ( 54% in 1h00 approximatly) but when i have the time i will try a full charge because the fast charge is more active at the start and midle of charging

It's fine, it will charge as a standard charger at 5V. I would have to brush up my Ohm's law but I don't even get why Huawei's standard charger on the P9 has 2 Amp electric current value. What matters is the voltage going into the battery and you don't need a 2 Amp charger to give you 5 volts, a regular 1amp will be able to do that. The only difference I know is that 5V at 1 amp are 5 watts and 5V at 2 amps are 10 W. But that has only to do with resistance, I think, a battery isn't fed on watts?
I'm really on the fence about this fast charging thing now. I never got it. Qualcomm's has its QC 2.0 tech but a Motorola charger is faster than any other. An S7 Edge with amuch bigger battery charges as fast as an HTC 10 and the Edge has a 2.0 QC and the HTC is 3.0. The G5 is also 3.0 and charges way faster than the HTC, even compensating for the different battery capacity. And I own a G2 which has no fast charging at all and will charge from 0 to 100% in less than 2 hours on a 5V generic charger, which isn't very far off the times I see with 3000mah batteries and Quick Charge 2.0 or 3.0... Why these differences?? No idea... Somehow I think battery chemistry has a lot to do with it (it does in the RC and electronic cigarette world) but I never see anyone addressing that.

Nearly right! A little analogy may help... Think of Voltage (V) as the diameter of the water tap, Ampage (A) as the speed of the water through the tap and Wattage (W) as how quick you want the bath the taps are filling!
So you can see, a small diameter tap but high water speed will still not fill bath very quickly, neither will a big diameter tap and slow water speed...you need both together. So 9V2A should charge quicker than 5V2A (18W compared to 10W).
As I understand it the P9 will accept charging at 9V and 2A (their Fast Charging) giving max 18W input so a 9V2A charger should give the best results (which is what the P8's fast charger is)...and what the qualcomm quick charge 2.0 (and 3.0) spec can provide. Now i'm not saying the P9 is a qualcomm quick charge phone, it's not, but my QC2.0 and 3.0 car chargers certainly charge my phone quicker than the included mains charger! So i suspect that the car chargers are providing 9V2A to the phone.
Whether this means any 9V2A charger would do......I don't know

Ok thanks. I can use it no mistake but slow. I think buy a qc 3 or 4 it's good. For car I have too dash car and it's so good I loose it. I have car charger qc 2 or 3 I don't know.

Why not?
It is a very good 5V charger, with Xiaomi you can expect up to 2A current, not more. Perfectly safe to charge anything, however not quickest charging option for others.

Dash charging just doesnt work on mi8, normal charge will not cause any damage on any other phone or their battery.
you do not necessarily need a original charger from your phone manufacturer.
The phone negotiate how much power the battery gets not the charger ... the charger slows down the load balance to 2,4A (2,4A*5V=12W)
With a 2,4A output you'll reach ~12W at peak due to cable limitations you'll get 10w
QC 3.0 reach ~ 18 watt on peak with variable voltage and ampere steps. (3,6 - 20v)
Same on Dash Charge, Dash uses variable voltage and ampere steps like QC but doubles the charging lanes.
You can charge your phone with any charger you get, the worst you can get is slower charging speed.

Bull****, the original MI 8 charge is QC 3.0 and I'm getting up to 3.3A on it.
It's very fast..

OKay its just your opinion but my opinion is you have no insight in electrical topics or the insight of such an charger.
optimization - the charger doesn't overcharge or use an overvoltage on your phone when its not support their specific fast charge technology it simply slow down to 5v - max. 2.4A, these charging speed will never cause any damage on your phone.
its just simple: an QC phone doesnt use the benefits of SuperCharge technology or Dash Charge and vize versa....
And trust me i've done more calibration and testing in USB charging topics and their different Charging tecnologys as you think (mobile batterys, chargers and so on).
I had several phones and several chargers and compared nearly all of them (QC, FastCharge, VOOC) and there is absolutely nothing dangerous to charge a phone with a QC charger if it is a supercharge phone.
But .... you ever can prove the contrary. I'll never stop learning but you have to tell me some facts.

I´ve made some troubleshooting, using a safety usb tester (V, A, W, etc.) and I discovered that when changing from 9V to 5V charging mode, it freezes!! and stops charging. I started at 30% battery level, charging at 9V 1.9A (17W), and reaching 75%... Intensity dropped down to nearly 0A... was no charging... I unplugged it, wait 1 min, plug it again, and it started charging again, but at 5V 1.33A (7W)...
with other mobile phones and same charger (Aukey) it changes from 9V to 5V without stoping, so I am worry if it is a problem of my Realme unit...

There must be a compatibility problem,
Maybe, if you unpluge and plug it again it will charge up to 100% (it works for me)
Let´s see if it can be solved in next software update, I will try to contact Realme support to let them know.
My charger at work also supports QC 3.0 (not oficially, LeEco Model EQ-248CN).

Bit late to the party...
My phone does work fine with QC. Charges at 9V2.1A until about 60-70%, then drops to 5V2.1A. At about 90% it drops to 5V0.6A until 100%.
My QC3 charger from Aukey also faces this issue. Charging to 80% and then it stops... Still the same after update to c27...
This phone supports 21w charging, but it is only shipped with an 18W charger. (This charger seem to be able to give out 5V, 9 V (2A) and 12V (1.5A).)
Anyone have information on what version of USB-PD the phone supports? And what voltage is used to obtain 21w?
Has anyone got 21W charging working? As not all higher wattage usb-pd charges may support the 21W mode that this phone needs.

Sony report 21W charging. So I'm not asking to go above Whats recommended.
I am asking more about the actual charging methodology, as the usb-pd system can be a bit complicated. And even a 45W charger may not correctly 'handshake' at 21w unless it's got the right voltage to offer.

My Xiaomi 30W 1A1C charger (which supports USB PD 2.0 over the C port I believe) negotiates 7V/3A to hit the 21W.

Me too, I thought it'd be doing 12V/1.8A or something but 7V/3A makes sense. Definitely should make sure the cable is quality enough to support 3A. As an aside, the phone charges at 5V/1.5A for all non USB-PD compliant chargers.
I measured with a super cheap USB C meter that I've been sticking into random chargers for curiosity sake. Highly recommended :laugh:
Ok, ordered an Usb pd 3.0 charger today, the Arcanite one. As it also has a PPS option.
Also ordered as usb c power meter.
Let's see if it does the same voltage combination with this charger.
I just looked more into the USB-PD spec and I believe you'd need a PD3.0 compatible charger to hit the 21W since the charger needs to support PPS to hit 7V/3A. Otherwise I'm assuming it would negotiate to 5V/3A or 9V/2A if the charger doesn't have a 7V step.
So got a charger with PPS support (a USB-PD 3.0) an up to 30w charging. An Anker USB c to c cable with 60W support.

Using the supplied 18W charger, it's displaying 5.27V, 2.78A. that's roughly 15W. ( Picture attached).
Using the new 30W charger, it's displaying 6.44V, 2.77A. that's roughly 18W. ( Picture attached).
Still need to do more testing, not sure why I'm getting these readings. A bit below what I was expecting.

What battery % is your phone at? You also have to remember that the closer the phone is to 100%, the charging speed will slow down.
I have an Anker 30W charger and can charge at speeds of at least 3500 mAh (based on Ampere reading).
The battery was around 35%. Yes you are right once it got over 50% the charging rate does show down a bit.
Also the Ampere app was displaying 3600 or 3500 as the current. But even if we calculate that, that's only about 18W. But that app isn't very good at measuring charging voltage or current.

Actually, did anybody find a 21W charger compliant with our device??? (I mean really delivering 21W...)

I've ordered the Samsung Ultra Fast Charge 25W (ref: EP-TA800XBEGWW)
It is PD 3.0 PPS and delivers 3.3-5.9V at 3A or 3.3-11.0V at 2.25A.
I hope that will work...

I have the Samsung EP-TA800 25W charger from a Samsung Galaxy A71 5G. On low battery with my USB tester, I measured 22W (9V/2.5A) when charging my A71 but only 15W (5.5V/2.7A) when charging my Xperia 1 ii. Were you able to do better with this Samsung charger?
In fact, I have been testing all my PD chargers (about a dozen in total -- I might have a problem!), and none has been able to charge my Xperia 1 ii at more than 18W. That's certainly decent, but it would be nice to get the 21W that the hardware is capable of.

I've finished my tests.
Both Sony charger 18W and Samsung EP-TA800 25W charger take 37 mn to charge from 20% to 70%. So, the extra power of the EP-TA800 cannot be used by our device, it does not provide the correct electrical intensity...
Finally, I've ordered the ARCANITE Premium PD 3.0 QC4 PPS 30W charger as mentionned above.
I've received the ARCANITE Premium PD 3.0 QC4 PPS 30W charger and I've done the tests.
To charge from 20% to 70%, the Sony charge takes 37 mn and the ARCANITE charger takes 36 mn (tests done in aiplane mode).
The small difference occurs below 50%.

Thanks for the update. It seems like the ARCANITE might not be delivering the 21W as hoped.
I also ordered yet another charger, the Baseus BS-C915, which allegedly supports PPS. The PPS designation appears in some pictures, but the specifications describe only a range of voltages (3.3-11V @ 3A).
With the Baseus, I get just under 18W (6.6V @ 2.7A) when charging my Xperia 1 ii. It's kind of strange that Sony claims 21W charging but doesn't include a 21W charger and doesn't even provide the specs for one!
