Of people that plan on contributing work for this device! :good:
Came from the Axon 7 forums. Decided to pick up this battery friendly (and decently spec'd) gem last weekend. Great platform to build on and I look forward to offering you guys some ways to push the device even further in performance.
The other day I had 7 hours of screen on time, full day's worth of use, at 15%. That was with the brightness set to automatically adjust. No clever tricks there, just some fine tuning.
What kind of numbers are some of you getting stock?
Cheers - and go search some of my threads!
I borderline love this phone lol

Also have the Axon 7 and recently came over to this Moto.
I'm familiar with your work warBeard. No doubt you'll find ways to get the most out of this device.
Moto G5S Plus XT1806, GZOSP_PixelExperience, MultiROM, Tapatalk 4.9.3
Highest ive managed on stock is just over 10 hours, auto brightness using H+ data and no location. Bluetooth off.

guys
sorry for posting here but i think the members here are best qualified to answer this question. I have a nexus 6 running stock rom on verizon and want to get my wife something closest to it but she doesn't want a big phone. Anything 5 and under would do. What's the best phone that I can get her that that has plain google-type stock rom available for it? An older phone would do too but unfortunately nexus 5 doesn't work on verizon
Thanks
It's old, but:
http://www.ebay.com/bhp/verizon-galaxy-nexus
Otherwise, there's not much but perhaps a LG G2?
Your wife would be miserable with a Galaxy Nexus lol That battery life on Verizon's LTE will be destroyed in a few hours. If this were me and still wanted to do some tweaking on the phone's system, I'd go with a 2013 Moto X Developer Edition. It's not a Nexus, but it's stock Android with some Moto app enhancements.
Excellent suggestion! I completely forgot about the moto x.
You guys are phenomenal crazies - sorry ran out of adjectives but this forum is super and that recommendation is super-super!
1) How long do you see battery last with LTE turned on (basic email, maps & whatsapp)
2) Do you see stock rom development continue on this phone beyond Lollipop?
Thanks
Yes, we are only perhaps a few months from the official release of M so development will continue. Battery life is subjective and is mostly based on signal quality, apps used and screen brightness.
how about the samsung s3. Is that continuing to get new development like M?
You're a power user. Can the LG Nexus 5X keep up? Rate this thread to express how "healthy" the development scene is for the LG Nexus 5X. A higher rating indicates available root methods, kernels, and custom ROMs.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Not that many ROMS or custom features yet. Nobody has bothered to see if the chipset can support USB 3 and can be hacked or fixed the low quality (at high volumes) speaker. Loving the mainstream CM and PureNexus ROMS though

Although I don't have a Nexus 5x I have seen that the community has grown somewhat. Kernels such as elemental x are available. The fact that cm13 nightlies are available show me that custome roms are beginning to grow. One cool feature (don't remember the site) was that someone made it possible so that the nexus 5x issues sound from the top speaker as well as the bottom speaker. These hints show towards a promising future which will only expand due to it being a popular nexus phone.
The community is smaller than other phones but its solid. We have beans. Enough said lol. Cataclysm is amazing, cm13 is dope, and a few kernels. Some new dev just showed up today with that xtreme rom
Like all communities, it takes a few months to kick into high gear. I felt the same way with my M9, which I got last spring, by mid summer, there were plenty of ROMs and a few different kernels to choose from. I figured development for this phone would have advanced at a quicker pace, but the community itself doesn't seem as big as I thought it would be yet. Just give it time. The ROMs and Kernels we have available now are kickass as it is. I'm waiting for a super optimized ROM like BoostPop was on the old N5.
nexus 5x community seems more mature than nexus 5 in my opinion. Popular roms / kernels are available. That's what the end user cares about( as primary phone).

I have almost every phone available and I love the nexus 5x. It's a snappy awesome light device! Highly recommend!
OK
Thanks
What I like about the community is that despite the Nexus having a smaller user base, it's still positive and willing to help those who are not as experienced with custom roms yet.
Thanks to the help of a few very helpful users in the PureNexus thread, I was able to learn about and successfully run a custom rom, custom kernel, systemless root, and still have adaway and android pay working.
Also worth noting, systemless root has been great for allowing apps with SafetyNet (like AP) to work, and it's great to see custom rom devs include details regarding how to implement it.

Franco kernel is on here. check the Original Android Development section
support is steadily growing. Good ROMs. Cataclysm, Pure Nexus, Omni, CM, Dirty Unicorns (in development) all available. ElementalX, Franco and Phasma kernels all working well.
I would love to see AOSiP on Nexus 5X
It´s an awesome phone, well made and really good looking. Some drawbacks are battery (could be a better one for the price), the side buttons that have a horrible click and loocks really cheap and a pitty it hasn´t got . But in general it´s a nice phone good hand feeling and a great screen.
not as great as the benchmark the nexus 5 had set but much much better than the other 2015 phones!
Hey guys!
Been years since I post on here but I've always stopped by to check out different forums. Well I'm back on Android using a Mi Mix I just got about a week ago(The shipper actually sent me 2 by mistake so I have a spare).. Thing is I can't get smart lock to work properly, wondering if it even works at all? I've searched high and low and can't find a straight answer. Hoping someone here can help. I love the phone and am trying to get around all the quirks to get it working to my liking. I am on the newest Global Rom and have not rooted or unlocked the bootloader. Thanks much for any help!
It works with Xiaomi Bluetooth devices only so far, other devices don't seen to be able to be seen or unlock as trusted devices.
Thanks for the answer Nocolfa! I figured it was something cooked into the system files not allowing the phone to see any of my BT connections when searching. Oh well. Not a deal breaker. I've had the phone about a week and when I use my IPhone 7 plus it's almost a joke how small the screen is. The Mix is by no means perfect but man do I enjoy using this phone just for the screen experience alone!
I have a Moto 360 and a Mi Band 2 ... I am so used to the scanner on the back I never really notice the lack of Bluetooth unlocking.

If you are rooted with xposed it can be done, using lineage ROM or resurrection remix rom
It works out the box.
And still going strong.
Still getting OS updates on DarkROM nougat.
Oreo is nearly ready for daily driver. Thanks devs.
This thing just keeps on working.
My 6p died. Symptoms: Boot Loop of Death. Now I am here posting from my Nexus 5. Works like a champ ^^
Which rom do you recommend? there will be miui 9 for nexus 5 would be great
Congrats for this amazing device. \m/ still rocking.
still rocking my Hammerhead. One of my favorite android device.
Actually i have Miui 8 on my nexus 5 and works very well after 4 years. But recently i broke the glass screen (not display) and sometimes power button go in stuck. So i was looking for a new device, but there are no more new nexus. Pixel are so expensive and also OnePlus become expensive with the 5 and 5T models (3T was the last good oneplus phone for price-quality ratio in my opinion, but unfortunately i can't buy it anymore from official site). Soooo (this is the last "so", promised) somebody has any idea which phone i could buy for a price from 350$ to 450$ ?
I'm looking mainly for a device with a good developers community like Nexus and OP. Thank you!
I hope my Nexus 5 will work well at least till end of next year.
But e.g. HTC U11 Life looks promising.
It's still the most stable phone I own, and has the widest range of custom roms available for it I've ever seen.
Long live 5 :good:

Go for a used first gen Google Pixel.
As much as I enjoy comparing phones, there is no direct replacement for the N5. Other phones are always missing something, but - to be fair - make it up on other areas.
If you like the size, you could go for the pixel, but good luck finding that one and for a decent price.
The Android One devices look great if all you want is bare Android with updates, but it remains a question how long that will continue. The dev community is non-existent at the moment as far as I can tell, so no root or custom roms.
I have my sights on the Moto G5 Plus as a next device: decent price & specs (memory/storage/sd) and an active xda community. It's a bit larger and heavier and doesn't have wifi ac for instance.
I am getting bored of my N5, but then there's this new flood of roms coming out and you can play with the latest stuff in such an attractive form factor... I can't find an excuse anymore....
I'd go for a used Pixel, Oneplus 5 (if you has the cash) or, if you want to really stay in the cheap but good af area, Xiaomi A1, in my mind, it's the real nexus 5 replacement.
Anyway, for now I'm still rocking my N5.
I think i'll go for a second hand OnePlus 3T. But Essential Phone is very gorgeuos *.*
I'm running nougat now but i feel it consumes too much ram and occasional lag is common on device with only 2GB of ram. Does anyone still rocking an old android version? I'm looking for a slightly older OS that best for N5 performance + battery. Which rom + kernel do you think is the best? Thanks.

To be honest i miss nexus 5 so much, since i upgrade to Pixel.
I wish go back in 2014 where i got my nexus 5.

Pixel looks like the perfect upgrade from N5. What could you miss? Wireless charging?

I was on nougat DarkROM for a long time. Had the same experience with lagging. Oreo feels like it does much better than Nougat. Lemme know how it goes if you return to an old android version.

Thanks for the suggestions, so i tried AOSIP 7 for a while. It was smooth at first, but then it become quite laggy like nougat, youtube loads longer, fullscreen video rotate took more effort to load. I can't rely on multitasking if i opened facebook app and some app simultaneously. Also, initial memory usage is a lot. I must use facebook + page manager + ads manager because of work purposes and i felt like i was using a cheap 100$ phone [emoji23]
So i remembered pure nexus & nitrogen rom glory back in marshmallow day. So i went back, flashed latest pure nexus marshmallow 6.0.1 + blu_spark 108. I think i will stick on this rom from now on.

I think you're absolutely right. N and O lag way too much where it counts: memory management. I went back to stock M recently, and even though the GUI stutters a bit, the things you mentioned plus the keyboard popping up quickly are what make this NOT feel like a $100 phone.
Been perusing the forums but haven't found any success. Hoping someone has an option. Recently setup a Google Pixel XL for a friend, which has virtually identical hardware, and the performance difference was night and day: the Pixel KILLS the G6. I can only assume the difference is all the BS bloat trash LG preinstalls, but without root I've found no way to get rid of it. I've got TWRP and have at least once reverted to the G firmware with Android 7, but that's about it.
Any options?
Thanks in advance!
aosp extended (aex) or aquarios might be suited for you. I've using aex quite some times and the developer is still actively maintains it's project. though, don't expect 100% performance increase. The most noticable issues are Camera app and AlwayOnDisplay still has no perfect solution for that.
