Hi all!
When I make a photo or a video and I set my storage card as a default folder to save the files, these files are damaged.
The photos are impossible to open and to visualize, while the video go jerky when I go to visualize the saved files.
I've tried different memory cards, but the problem remains.
I use a Corsair microSD and OZ microSD both of 2GB.
When I set the main memory as a default folder to save the files, the problem doesn't happen.
Does someone have the same problem?
Greetings
Does nobody have this problem?
Some help?
I've same problem with corsair card too... 2GB model
no more people with this problem ? We are only 2 ?
---
Curious, I format my card, same problem, I hard reset my phone, no more problem... I'm going do test all soft I previously install on my Kaiser to understand what software make my card crazy
---
Do you have MemMaid install on your Kaiser ? Optimize for speed seems to bug with the photo.... Go back to default setting and now everything work fine...
I have the same problem with my 6GB SanDisk. Only full resolution photos seem to be corrupt though. The lower res ones are fine. If I transfer the full res files to a PC or the device memory, they're still corrupt. Moving a full res file from the device memory to the SD card doesn't corrupt it. So it seems to be related to the initial saving to card stage, which takes about 20 seconds vs <5sec when I save it to the main memory.
I also have another SD issue. Windows Media Player can't play anything from my SD card, even though it sees the files. It gives me a 0x800ccc0f error, whatever that means. I can play the files fine with PocketMusic player.
Of note, I did not have these issues during the 1st week I had the Kaiser and SD card. Full res photos saved to the card were fine and WMP could play files off the card also. Maybe a hard reset or flashing to a different ROM will help [I still have the AT&T ROM on my Tilt]. I had tweaked the SD card powersave registry & had also changed the cluster to 256. Reverting these changes didn't fix it.
I´ve the 8 Gb microsd, and i´ve the same problem, where can be the cause ?¿?¿
thanks for all
i just experienced this problem on my 8gb sandisk...never had a problem before.
what i did is shut off the phone, open the microsd slot, kinda clean off the dust in there, ejected the card, wiped the contacts down, reinsert the card.
turn phone on...everything is fine again.

I also have the same issue since 4 days with my 6GB SanDisk. But it is the same if I save on main memory. Also only full resolution photos >= 1M seems to be corrupt though. The lower res ones are fine.
I will try to clean up the SanDisk card to see if it solves the issue.

After cleaning the MicroSD, it works fine again now... but for for how many time ....?
I had problems with storing videos on my storage card. They all were corrupt (all 24B in size).
After I installed the latest version of the camera software, the problems were gone.
it happened on my last universal, seems that the device not compatible with the storage card.
i had the same problem some days ago
but a simple soft reset did it for me, no cleaning of the card was needed
i'm using SanDisk 6 GB and never had the issue before
but after flashing of sleuth's wm 6.1 i installed s2u2 which haven't used before
and the problem occured
(maybe it has something to do with s2u2, or some other background app
because they aren't automatically started after a soft reset?)

Now that you mention it, I reinstalled the camera application, but a simple soft reset might have worked as well.
How could I forget, in case something doesn't work: restart first, look for a solution later
Hi,
I recently bought a 7501 and am loving it. When I played Xvid movies with TCPMP 0.72, I have trouble with the video performance. When the movie is on my Class 6 miniSDHC card, there's significant fram drop, the video is jerky all the time. When the movie is on the microdrive, if I turn off the "microdrive mode", it plays smoothly, but the microdrive is spinning all the time (I can hear it if I hold it close to my ear). This is surprising to me, as I bought the miniSDHC card to store and play my movies, so I don't have to use the microdrive for that. Am I missing something here or this is the way it is? Thanks for helping!!!

My videos are all in the microSDHC cards and play without problem.
I suggest you do a SKtools benchmark test to find out how your card is doing. I had problem similar to yours in the begining because I incorrectly formatted it. This problem also happens when there is corruption, lost clusters, etc. You might want to first copy your card content to th PC, then format your card (Make sure your formatting parameters are: Fat 32, no fat table backup and cluster size 32k), then copy your PC's files back to the storage card.
Let's see how it goes.

Thank you for the suggestion. I followed what you said and the performance doesn't improve. I then benchmarked the MiniSDHC card with Pocket Mechanics and the score is very low, much lower than a stone age 64 MB CF card, and much lower than the built in microdrive. Pocket Mechanics couldn't find any bad sectors. I tend to believe there's something wrong on the data transfer between 7502 and the MiniSD. What would you suggest next? Should get a replacement? Thanks!

How low? If it is very low, the service centre is likely to ask you to re-flash the ROM, and check the speed again. If after that it is still low, they would ask you to send it in for analysis.
I compared the file transferring speed of the Class 6 MiniSD with my Class 2 SDHC. I basically transferred a 1.2G movies file to both cards. It took 7 minutes for the SDHC, and 28 minutes (!) for the MiniSD card, to finish the transfer. I tend to believe this is a bad card now. I am going to get a replacement. Thanks for helping!

Take a quick look at this http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/sd/download/sd_formatter.html
It's a SD Card formatter from Panasonic that works with pretty much all SD, MiniSD and SDHC cards not just their own. I had a 4GB SD that was giving me trouble on my old Universal but gave it a run through this and seemed much better. It should work for your card as long as you have a card reader for your PC. It's seems windows own formatter does not quite work as it should with SD's as this seems to do things a little differently.

I had recently opened a thread here asking the possible cause for the heating up of my phone. After getting it diagnosed at the local service center, I discovered that my 32 GB Sandisk class 10 microsd card is the culprit that is causing the heat-up. Unseating my microsd card from my phone does the following things/improvements:
1. Phone doesn't heatup (isn't prominent with back cover) while playing hd videos & while browsing data
2. Battery lasts longer
After I insert the microsd card, I would notice that my phone would normally heat up below the rear camera & below the ear-piece, as it would previously. I have witnessed my phone getting hot upto 47 °C (under mild to moderate usage) ! That's unbearable.
Possible causes
1. Is the SD card defective ? Please note that... I have noticed this exact issue on two different 32 GB Sandisk Class-10 cards which I own. The local service center told me that your sd card might have short-circuited & would be causing the heat-up. They couldn't test it since I hadn't take it there.
2. Is the android indexing service running constantly & triggering the heat up?
Some Additional Info:
1. Most of the data in my sd card are multimedia files/ android apks
2. while taking out the concerned card from it's original adapter/reader(inserted in my pc) , after copying, say 6-7GB of data, I had also witnessed it getting really warm. Is this normal ?
3. A similar concern here can also give you a better idea
Can anybody please confirm & tell if this is a known issue with large capacity sandisk high capacity cards (16GB>) so that I can switch to a sd card of a different make that most of you use & recommend or should i purchased a lower capacity sdcard?
Any other workaround that will likely work (formatting the card on the phone instead of PC/ using custom rom)

Some more info please.
1. What if SD card is freshly formated. (not quick format). An empty SD card still causes it?
2. Did you install any software like Xposed module or SD mount? Or have you swapped internal mem for SD card? (Some do it)
3. Does stock ROM also cause it?
4. Use move to phone option in the app. Move media to internal memory. Play it. Still heat?
I own 16 GB Trascend. No issue.

thank u for taking the time to write back Coming to your questions, I will answer them in the order they are numbered
1. I haven't tried inserting an empty SD card & check if this issue comes up
2. No I don't have any xposed module installed but I do have an app installed called "folder mount" but I have disabled it from starting up automatically (on boot/ when network connectivity changes)
3. Ya..all this I have witnessed on stock v10d ROM & I haven't installed any custom rom on my current phone yet.
4. I will try doing that but that won't be a fix because my video library won't fit in there
I would like to also add here that a day before I took my phone to the service centre, I was at a friend's house where he had deliberately put his 16 GB microsd card (Transcend Class 10, in this case) so that we could check if the phone heated up & surprisingly IT DIDN'T !
We had tried playing a full hd vid in mx player at full volume & brightness for 4-7 mins & there was no sign of heating.
Did this happen because the card was of 16 GB & had considerably less videos/ because card was of different make?
I don't have own a 16GB card personally since my previous phone was a moto g & before that I owned a P500 (optimus one) in which I put a Transcend 8GB class IV card.

Still cant know if its a software problem or a hardware problem until you test all of the above.
Does folder mount make your SDcard the internal memory?
Internal memory is heavily accessed by all Apps.
A 32 gb sd card will have twice the address length compared to a 16GB. At high speeds and at a high access rate, it may lead to a problem.
If you did swap SD an internal storage functions, you should consider switching back.
SD fix in Xposed module gives you full access to SD card. I think it is better than folder mount.
I do not own any 32 GB card of any company and hence cannot comment on hardware.

no it doesn't! it just makes mounts the app data so that the respective app understands it's in the internal memory. I haven't installed that xposed module for swapping external sd as internal memory yet but yes..I do have full write access to my sd card by installing SDfix app from playstore.
I think, I should insert a freshly formatted sd card (as u recommended), move current data to internal memory, test & then report here. Let me see how it goes.

Yes while playing video on YouTube, playing games, it heats up and drain battery very quickly. Right now i m traveling so cannot do any sort of testing. But during travel, within 2 hrs of music listening using ear phones, it drained 10% battery.

Hello, I have this weird SD card bug on my Nokia Lumia 525 for quite a while now.
Every time i try install a program to the SD card , It'll just pop-up a generic error message that doesn't give any code. And i tried to set the time and date on my phone but it that didn't work. But when I change back to my phone's internal storage, every programs install just fine.
And that's not the only problem.
Whenever I record a video to the card. It'll just be broken and unplayable, and the video app of windows phone will just display a message saying that it doesn't support that video that I just recorded. But when I use VLC to play that video, It works just fine, but it looks a little bit streched out . And for a moment after I recorded the video it will be automatically removed from the card.
I managed to copy the broken video to my computer and view it with many video viewing software, and none of them are able to show that video. And open it in Notepad, shows a bunch of Chinese and other Unicode characters.
Also, when i tried to copy a MP3 file to it and play it on the Music app on my Lumia, It'd play fine for a while and then It'd be broken and automatically disappear.
Another thing happened is that every single time i try to delete a folder , some moments later It'd come back with all of its content.
Another disturbing things that this card brings is any time i open the Photos app. Some images in the past'd be black out, and when i open it, it'd give out an error saying it cannot open that picture and when I rotate it, it will just show a picture that doesn't exist in the gallery and it looks really streched or distorted.
I don't know what's going on here, the last picture that's successfully captured and saved to the SD card is from July 2016
which its full name "WP_20160717_16_12_36_Pro" And everything works fine when I use the internal storage.
So if anyone know something about this will be nice.
Thanks.

Your SD card seems to be dead (read only). You can only access data you try to save/copy to it while it's still in the disk cache, then it just disappeares, as it wasn't actually written.
What brand is your card?
I mostly have Kingmax and Samsung cards with these problems, but it can happen with ANY card.

Hey , thanks for the reply, the card i'm using is a 32GB Lexar 300x, I've only got this thing for a few months. I'm quite surprised to think that my card is already broken since my earlier cheaper and have less storage card lasted quite long, more than the current one.

Hi guys,
What is the fastest memory card speed G6 (not plus/play) can use? Somewhere I read Motorola recommends U1 or faster. Is it worth investing in a fast card?
E.g. a Sandisk 32GB 100/90 MB/s is the same price as a Samsung 64GB 100/60 MB/s so if the phone couldn't use the fastest speed anyway, I'd rather take larger capacity.
I'm planning to put apps on the card. My old phone has slowed down considerably when I did that, so if the G6 CAN use the faster speed, I'd prefer that.
Thanks!
Sandisk 160/60 card gets 77/44 on moto g6. The same card gets higher speed on a lower end phone. Apps run okay at that speed on g6 but don't know if consistent use for apps lowers overall performance. Other users should post their speeds so we can get an idea what's the max speed g6 can get out of microsd cards.
Actualy in the meantime I bought the Sandisk Extreme Plus A1/V30 (95/90 MB/s), I just haven't installed it in the phone yet.
@e4noob what app did you use for benchmarking?

I used androbench. Please post the speeds on this card. I'll predict around 80/50. I have this suspicion that g6's card reader might be low quality. But it would be nice to be proven wrong on that.

Okay I put the card in the phone and ran 4 tests with Androbench. The *best* results, rounded up to 5/50 from each category are:
Squential read/write: 80/65 MB/s
Random r/w: 4200/1400 IOPS
SQL Insert/Update/Delete: 950/1200/1900 QPS
This is a brand new Sandisk Extreme Plus 32GB card (95/90 MB/s) formatted as external storage.
Also ran 2 tests on internal storage (note this phone has been in use for 2 weeks and it's half full so there's certainly some data fragmentation):
Squential read/write: 260/100 MB/s
Random r/w: 11600/5300 IOPS
SQL Insert/Update/Delete: 1100/1200/1550 QPS
Not sure what to think of the SQL numbers but in the random r/w performance the internal memory trashes the memory card so it's probably not the best for running apps. Sequential write is quite close though so I guess Sandisk's claim of 4k video recording holds true.
Hm, I wonder if there are memory cards meant for faster random access (like an SSD) and would phones be able to take advantage of such speed?
Edit: fixed my mistake about what card I have. It's a Extreme Plus 95/90, not Pro.
~ never mind, a rant was here how I can't format the card as internal storage but I found it. Good.
After formatting as internal, the phone complained the card is slow.
I let it move 4.5 GB of data from internal memory to the card, which the phone said would take 7 minutes. It was done in about a minute.

No problems so far!
On my last phone with a basic Class 10 Kingston card, I had problems with apps disappearing after a reboot. It was especially annoying with Amazon Kindle which was the biggest (movable) app and I had to keep it in the phone memory.
No problems with the Moto. I even enabled the developer option to force apps which don't support it onto the card and they all work fine. Which is super cool especially for navigation apps with their massive offline maps. Neither Sygic nor HERE We Go support moving the app onto the card. (In both cases you can move the maps onto the card but only if it's formatted as external storage, not internal.)
Apps start really fast. I *think* I can sense some slowdown when running some apps like Duolingo and LingoDeer compared to when running from internal memory, but it might as well be my imagination. I see no slowdown when running Waze which is a lot larger. And the phone is slightly slower to boot but that's no biggie. It wasn't fast to begin with. But all the card apps are available IMMEDIATELLY upon booting, while on my old phone/card it took another minute to initialize.
Last night I noticed the phone tends to kill background apps way too aggressively, which is bloody annoying but I doubt that has anything to do with the card, it's more like another stupid Android/Motorola feature. (I have the adaptive battery feature disabled.)
Another odd thing is that the storage reports 5 gigs of games in the internal memory even when I moved all games onto the card, so that's clearly another Android bug.
So yea, I think it was worth it investing a little more in a faster card. I wish the phone would be faster overall but for what it is it's fine and the card isn't slowing it down so far.
