Every morning, after more than 4 hours I need to "reactivate" smart lock by change my home location to other location then change back to my home location. This morning when I tried to open smart lock I entered my password and the app froze. I pressed the home button and I got error "Can't open smart lock".
I restart my phone and nothing changed.
Hoping someone could help.
Thanks.
Have you tried to also enable the on body detection. That also locks phone after 4hours of not moving the phone but you should could unlock it.
Can you unlock with power button?

Had this phone for 3 weeks now, just turned the screen on, unlocked the lock screen, then the screen glitched, then the phone turned itself off! Tried to power on again via the power button, but nothing. Had to hold up volume and power button together, phone vibrated. Tried turning on via power button & worked.
Anyone else had this problem?
I'm just hoping it was a one off.

I've had it happen twice, but both times were while I was sleeping so I didn't see the screen. But same thing when I woke up: phone was off and wouldn't turn on without force rebooting with the power and volume up.
Sucks when your alarm doesn't go off because your phone decides to freak out

I also had this twice.
Screen glitched, went black and had to force reboot it.
It happened to me once a day for about a week but hasn't happened since. I've messed with that much including disabling most of the sony stuff that I can't tie down what helped (if anything)

Its an app called Screen Adjuster used to reduce yellow hue!
So for some reason, randomly, I will lock my phone and not be able to unlock it or get the screen to come back on.
So I will lock my phone - come back - screen will be off - can't press any keys (home, power, volume) and get a response. Notifications and stuff still happens. I have to hold the power button in which the screen flashes (a line shoots across the screen, disappears and then Galaxy Note 3 shows up).
any recomendations?
That's not even close to right. I would be taking it back to where I bought it.

This must be a software issue. I've had this happen to me as well. Only once in the last two weeks. Seemed to happen when locking and unlocking repetitively.

Yeah, sometimes it wont happen for a long time. Sometimes it will happen repeatedly.
I dont know if related, by Knox keeps saying something about software trying to access information every time I reboot. I have no idea WHAT app its talking about because it doesnt freakin tell me.
Happened once and can assure you its a software issue. If it continues to be a problem I would recommend a factory reset.

I have been looking for an app that simply turns off the screen without locking the device. Can anyone provide a link? Thank you very much!

When you say lock do you mean the slider or the PIN/Pattern lock?
If it's PIN/Pattern, there is a setting under security that says "automatically lock" and I think it defaults to something like 5 seconds. You can change it to a much higher number (a few minutes up to 30 or more). Changing this will cause the PIN/Pattern to become active only after the screen has been off for the consecutive number of minutes that you specify.
If it's a slide lock, you could use something like Tasker to enable to lock a set time after the screen goes off. There are also apps that can do it, but I've never used any of them. There's probably plenty, but this is the first one that came up in a Google search. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.delayedlock2&hl=en

I used the pin lock and set it to lock after 10 minutes of screen off. When I use a screen off app to turn off screen, it turns off screen but also locks the phone immediately. But I want the app to only turn off the screen.

Is there a reason you don't just press the power button? Also, verify that the setting in security for "power button locks instantly" isn't checked. The app may be simulating the power button being pressed, which could lock instantly if that box is ticked.
Sounds to me like you just need to go to the security settings and turn screen lock to none?
That's how I run my phone. Active Display still runs and will come alive when you pick up the phone making you slide to "unlock", but pressing the power button will also dump you straight to your homescreen.
To get rid of that last "lock" when you disturb the phone you would have to uninstall Active Display.

Turning off screen is easier with app than the physical button. Yes I did not check the "power button locks instantly" but the screen off app still locks the phone right away.

I could do that but then there is no security at all.

I recently had my Note 7 stolen (yes, I still had the original Note 7) and I just got a Note 8. I made it so the phone can't be turned off and disabled the power off and restart buttons using a package disabler. I did this for the sole purpose of making the phone be more capable of being tracked, with my last stolen phone being simply shut off and all.
However, there's still a way of disabling the tracking if someone knew how. If they put it on Emergency Mode (which still shows if you hold down the power button via the lock screen) the phone will no longer send or receive data as long as the screen is off. I've tried to track it this way and it will not show on the map if it is in Emergency Mode. How do I disable this button and what is the package name for it if it has one? The fact that someone can still turn my GPS off even from my lock screen annoys me. There must be a way around this. So if anyone knows the package name to disable this or some other way to turn this off that'd be great, thanks.
I have Cerberus and in the settings there is an option to block power button, so when pressed nothing happens, no way to turn emergency mode on as the menu doesn't come up.

One of my favorite features on my S8 was that in order to restart or turn off the phone, biometrics was required (Iris or Fingerprint) in my case. I do not see this feature on the Note 8. I can't find a setting I might be missing, is the feature just not available on this phone? I did a search, but couldn't find anything.
I know what u mean I still own my S8, i use cerberus so it has that feature in it and it also has the feature of blocking the notification drop down while phone is locked. I don't use that feature though.

Thanks, but that requires a pin to power the phone on. My S8 could not be turned off without using Iris or Fingerprint so If I lost it or it was stolen it could not be turned off and I could track it.

the thief can turn off your device through recovery. bixby+power button +volume up. all done: p
My note 8 does that. If I try turning off my device without unlocking it first(i have fingerprint and pin on), it will tell me to enter my figerprint or pin. And this kicks in for me 5 seconds after turning the screen off. If you unlock the phone first, it wont tell you to input figerprint/else

My Note8 requires a PIN or biometric to power off or restart if it's not unlocked when I hold down the power button. Not really sure what this feature is for, but it works as it should.

whats the point of having to unlock your device to be able to turn it off ? if someone steals your phone and doesnt know how to turn it off without password/whatever, he can just wait until battery drains and phone turns off on its own lol

Yeah, but during that time, I would still be able to track its location while its on
This feature has a major flaw.
If you enable secure start-up you can't power-off phone without biometrics or pin, but you can reboot it and all the tracking functions are off. Reboot should be also available if you enter the biometrics or pin.
