My P20 pro has camera flickering issue like that of Google Pixel 2 camera flickering issue.
Photos taken with the camera while pointing to lights are so bad and I'm super annoyed. I bought this device 2 days ago.
I have tried factory reset , safe mode etc but nothing helps.
Can someone tell me if this can be fixed with software updates or this is hardware issue in my unit ?
Is anyone else having the same problem? My P20 Pro model is My unit is CLT-L29
Check this youtube of the flickering issue so you might understand the problem im talking about.
Im unable to post video link here as im a new user. Please go to youtube and write this " Pixel 2 camera issue under LED lights "
I have the same issue with my P20 Pro. My unit is CLT-L29.

I assume it's a refresh rate issue on the screen, lights are constantly flickering I got some cool super slow mo videos of lights on holiday, they are a constant red light but clearly not, I assume that's all you're seeing on the camera as well

Hi Dave. In your video that is screen refresh rate because of heavy music and lights i beleive.
But in my P20 Unit it is issue in camera. I mean even if im in my room with two three lights, it gets all black lines everytime and photos,videos taken are so bad.
It is ruining my moments and im disappointed.
I have tested s9+ and Iphone X under same environment but they both work fine and no black lines at all.

Check your settings, and try with the 60fps option on and off
It might have something to do with the refresh rate of the camera and how it's set, try changing it and see if it changes something, for me it worked

How can we change the refresh rate of camera. Im not sure we can do it on mobile.
its not about display refresh rate.
You can change between 60fps an not 60fps resolutions
Changing between this resolutions is the only change I have seen

I doubt this is a hardware issue because it's more related to the refresh rates of the lighting which happens to synch with the shuttertime of the camera. It causes visible banding across the display. It will happen with all cameras, even DSLR's if you match the shuttertime to the frequency of which the lights refresh.

Yes you are right. This is some hardware issue. But the things is this problem is not present on any Iphone and Samsung. I have tested many samsung phones and iphone x. They all handle lights pretty good but huawei fails at this.
Trust me photos and videos get ruined and you see black and white lines on the picture.
Its just annoying that such expensive phone can't handle lights flickering like cheap samsung phones and old iphones.
Just search Google pixel 2 screen flicker on youtube/google and you'll see what im talking about.

Tried it but doesnt work
No, you misunderstood my comment.
Usually this phenomena happens for the reasons i described. It happens on my $6000+ DSLR camera too and the only way to get around it is to change the shutter speed to a different one which does not synchronize with the refresh rates of the light sources. It's not a malfunctioning hardware, it's more like a limitation which can be worked around by either software hacks or shutter adjustments. Although changing the shutter speed might not work as expected with the type of electronic shutters we have in these mobile devices.
Just because you haven't seen the effect on the other devices you mentioned doesn't mean the issues don't exist there. This is a common issue on cameras with electronic shutters such as phone cameras, and even more so when you use auto settings under certain circumstances.

Hi. I have the exact same problem. Were u able to solve the problem?
It's the LED lights that is an issue. It flickers a lot faster than the human eye can see.. but the P20 will pick that up. To get around that, go to Pro and lower the ISO and increase the shutter. It works for me.. the longer the shutter, the more evened out the flickering becomes and it won't be an issue. The LG V20 has manual video and I was able to get around that, but P20 Pro doesn't have manual mode for video.

Ok, not sure if this is a software problem or hardware, the fact is that when taking a photo in a dark room with the flash, it comes out way too white, as if reflecting light, the process focus with flash and photo capture is too fast, so the flash intensity is not measured in and out very white photos ...
I'm not sure if this problem arose after the upgrade to 4.4.4 tmo, but I do not remember this happening in android 4.4.2
Here are some examples:
This photo was taken with Moto X, same conditions, same distance, and in a completely dark room.

It must be 444. If I energize the flashlight before I call the cam the cam will not open. Yet the constant flash is not constant, but only flashes with the shutter. Don't we need a flash to be on before the shutter?

That's well known, but what about the photos that there is no light ?, that's when the flash is used, and now this problem arose unusable leaving the camera in environments with no lighting.
Try a camera app from play store, to see if it's the same.
This was the first thing I noticed after upgrading to 4.4.4. Quite wondering that very few people have mentioned this so far. All others have actually praised it, that it got so bright, yeaaaaa, heck!
It might be better for shooting from a very big distance, as now I see that my whole 14x12' room gets nicely lit up when the flash is on, but for close to medium range distance it's just unusable. I would take the older dimmed flash 100 out of 100 times than this bleeding one.

It's the same, is even worse, as the moto x only focus with the stock camera app, any other camera app does not focus with the flash, it only shows the light and take the picture without focusing before.

I bought a P30 a week ago, and two things drive me nuts. First of all the optimizer, which is obviously not artificially intelligent, since I have said countless times that I don't mind if Snapchat is using power. Without that I'd never hear from my daughter... Is there a way to stopp Optimizer completely, or at least block the alerts?
And talking about alerts, there's the standard alert sound coming every few minutes as long as I have my BT plugs (I'm using Sony WF-1000XM3's) connected. But there's never anything in the alert panel. I wonder if it can be because of another useless piece of [email protected] information, in English I am guessing it's called "Device connection - Active audio device" or something like that. I can click a wheel to the right in that and get a box that lets me choose between audio from the plugs and the device, but why should I? I can turn of the plugs to get the tragically bad sound from the vibrating screen!
So can anybody give me a tip about this? On my previous Samsung I'd just use a root function to fix it, but that's not as easy on this phone since it seems just about unrootable without a lot of extra hassle.

Made the same move from S9 > P30, battery life is extremely good compared although I miss the Samsung experience so am looking at the S20 Ultra now
That one's far too expensive. Not that I can't afford it, just that I can't justify it. The cheaper models have worse cameras then the P30, that's why I bought that for about half the price of a S20 Ultra. I'd rather buy another pair of ceiling speakers for my Atmos system! And I see hat you came from Samsung in your sig. Btw the latest software to the S20 was apparently so buggy they couldn't reivew the S20 in Norway!

Oh I have sigs disabled, I`ll have to remove it
The only reason I want the Ultra is the new 108MP sensor the others won't have, I have always gone for the standard model as the Pro/Plus models weren't worth the extra to me, bigger screen/battery and one extra lens wasn't enough for the extra cost, but I really enjoy photography which is also the reason I got this P30, few things missing vs the S9, like true 960fps slow mo, and I used to take a lot of shots of my dog running about, with the S9 they almost always came out sharp and clear, the P30 seems unable to take clear shots of moving objects, most pics come out blurred, also the RYYB sensor tinting everything yellow gets a bit tedious
It takes a great photo for scenery etc, low light is amazing so hopefully the Ultra can match / beat that
While EMUI doesn't give you the option to completely disable the persistent Device Connection Service notification when you have a Bluetooth audio device connected, I managed to create a workaround using Macrodroid:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
This macro will be triggered whenever the Device Connection Service notification appears and will immediately dismiss the notification without letting it re-appear after whatever time limits EMUI usually sets. The result is a clean notification centre without this persistent banner getting in the way. If this doesn't work, change the trigger to Connectivity > Bluetooth Event > Device Connected > [your headphones here].
Hello.
My Note 10 Pro screen has a greenish tint that can get quite annoying. It mostly shows on dark grey colors and on the top and botton of the screen, it's less strong on the center. I tried to correct it modifying the screen settings color correction (this much) but this only somewhat improved it but it didn't get rid of it.
With full brightness it's not that strong, if the image has greys you can tell it's a bit greenish but it's not very noticeable unless you put it side by side with another screen.
I tried to take a photo but it's hard to tell the difference:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
On low brightness it's very noticeable if the image has grey colors and you are using the 120Hz mode which makes it notably worse (60Hz mode still shows the green tint, but not was much).
(On this image I'm using minimun brightness)
Also if you use the 120Hz mode and you lower the brightness to minimun some wrong violet colors appear on the top and bottom of the screen, like the photos show:
These weird violet colors do not appear on 60Hz mode.
Is anyone else having this problem? I wonder if I got a bad OLED or instead just the Redmi Note 10 Pro's screen is not good overall. I could live with 60Hz mode but even then the colors still look a bit greenish and I didn't bought this phone for not using the 120Hz...
What do you think? Is it worth getting a replacement?
i think it is a hardware issue
it happened before with amoled screens
you should go to get a replacement
Most of the people are facing this tint issue in redmi note 10 pro. I have seen many people complaining that they are facing purple tint on 120hz mode. Well i haven't seen it by myself cause haven't received my phone yet. And now after hearing all this i am afraid what if my device start doing this tint thing. I hope xiaomi fix it asab with some updates
On my device when i overclock screen from 60 to 84hz green tint appear also. This is most likely hardware problem and not software. I was thinking to buy 10 pro :/

What device do you have? Redmi note 10?
I have found that using the colors on "Automatic" instead of "Standard" helps with the greenish tint. I usually use standard because it's more faithful to the original colors and the automatic commonly gives a blueish tone (and it does here too) but this blue tone helps masking the greenish tint at 60Hz, so I find it better. On 120Hz it's not enough and it still looks too greenish at low brightness.

Same here with the purple tint. It's not a deal breaker though, once you know it and... don't watch movies in the dark (which is bad for your eyes anyway)... What might be one if you're after the 120Hz screen is that I think it doesn't adapt to the context as expected (120Hz in Miui even when nothing updates on screen, 60Hz in some fast games... Would have expected the opposite).
Still an awesome phone for that price. Didn't miss my Mix 3 anymore! (BTW I'll "sell" that one, if someone is interested - along with it's new screen that doesn't go on, motherboard is OK, selling it as-is, i.e. open and waiting for a repair. More details soon on Mix 3 forum).

thank god my 10 pro seems to be fine... no green or purple tint or any other issues
Those photos are quite informative. However, we have been here many times with (am)oled devices. Unlike IPS, amoled are very susceptible to slight alteration of electricity that powers it. The less it gets, the more likely colour deviations are to occur. The solution is most likely to stay on standard settings until Xiaomi figures out or "refines" what's best configuration for every each screen it installed using update. Keeping the device in mid to high brightness usually helps since it pumps up higher electricity, thus more accurate the colours would show.

I didn't, I didn't want to go through the hassle of getting a replacement, less when I could get another one with the same problem and anyway the problem only shows on 120Hz at low brightness so it's not like the phone is unusable... What I do is enable 120Hz on the morning and disable it at night which is when I use low brightness, it's a bit annoying but it's working for me until now, and tbh some days I forget about enabling it and I go through the day without noticing I'm using 60Hz. The rest of the phone works fine so whatever, I still consider it good for the money.
I said on my first post that I noticed the green tint even on 60Hz but I have been comparing it with other amoled smartphones without being able to notice a difference so I think this is just how this screen technology works and I was just too used to my previous LCD IPS colors. After using my phone for some days I got used to it and don't notice it anymore except when I use 120Hz and low brightness. I also switched back to Standard colors since Automatic was just too unrealistic.
I'm facing the same issue
I have a greenish tint,
I have DOT OS installed so, I will have to revert to MIUI and stock recovery right?
Do I have to lock the bootlaoder too? cause I heard unlocking bootloader doesn't voids warranty. How can I revert back any help?
Anyone else here experiencing screen dimming issues when playing intensive games like COD or LOL at 90% to max brightness? It dims and lowers down the brightness and you can't fix it but just the brightness slider. It's annoying that I have to restart the game to fix it. - I've tried to on/off auto brightness
- I've tried checking the settings in game turbo, nothing there
- tried tweaking the performance /battery settings and whatnot, issue is still there
- restart the phone but issue persists
- I even tried to factory reset

It seems to be by default that the screen will dim a bit when the device heats up, similar to iOS behavior.

Hi, sorry for bumping but I suppose that's better than starting a new thread.
So I picked up the Mi 11 Ultra yesterday and it behaves the same. I was starting to worry mine was defective, so it safe to say it is completely normal?
Sucks though, I'd expect Xiaomi not to cheap out on cooling especially for the Ultra. AFAIK the 888 is not the hottest SoC.
For a Xiaomi? I'd say yes, it's typical. I've tried using other high phones with same chip or higher (Samsung S22 Ultra for example) and it didn't have the issue so... I've tried looking but I can't seem to find a (software) solution. On the other hand (hardware) , some "coolers/fans" do help. the best solution I've got is this . Thanks, will give it a look. The bare idea of using an external cooler with a phone is ridiculous, unless you are gaming I suppose. After doing some more reading it seems the whole SD888 and 870 Mi 11 series is plagues by heat issues. Not sure if I would reconsider if I knew about it though, seems like a great deal at 650$. Mi 12 Pro was available for roughly the same price though...

Yeah I'm serious. Though I'm only doing that while gaming where the phone gets really hot. That's when I notice the phone suddenly dims itself so using external coolers helps prevent the thermal throttling which then prevents the dimming issue and (really really seriously) Koolfever is the best I've got.

Anyone else here experiencing screen dimming issues when playing intensive games like COD or LOL at 90% to max brightness? It dims and lowers down the brightness and you can't fix it but just the brightness slider. It's annoying that I have to restart the game to fix it. It's even annoying since I can't restart it when in the middle of a game. Any solutions there?
- I've tried to on/off auto brightness
- I've tried checking the settings in game turbo, nothing there
- tried tweaking the performance /battery settings and whatnot, issue is still there
- restart the phone but issue persists
- I even tried to factory reset

To fix this, you just need to get Franco kernel manager. apply the settings in the picture ok everything will be fine

but this requires rooting my phone. I really wish manufacturers add a manual override instead but thanks for the idea anyway. I'm now using an S23 Ultra and it still does that dimming thing. so....... I'll just avoid playing under the sun XD.
The proximity sensor realy sux on rhis phone, it always turn on when i have the phone on the ear, and there is no fix for it.
I am realy thinking about selling the phone is so anoying!!!
I have same problem, still hope that an update will fix.
The proximity sensor on these devices are ultrasonic rather than infrared. They either use this method to save space or because of issues of "seeing" through the screen, although there are infrared proximity sensors that work behind the display.
They work by emitting a high frequency sound (too high for us to hear) from the earpiece and then listening for that sound in the microphone, and by working out how loud the sound is and what delay there is they can work out if the phone is up against our head, but they are not as accurate or reliable as infrared sensors.
The proximity sensor is only activated when the phone is in a vertical position as it would be being held to the ear. If it isn't very reliable it might be worth calibrating the compass as this may help the device knowing which way up it is.
It works okay on my device.
Hope that helps.
Use "call proximity sensor fix"..I have same trouble my rom is EU Vodafone.
It doesn't have a hardware proximity sensor, Xiaomi use ai to make virtual sensor. I don't know how it work but it really sick.

No, screen still turn to black even i covered front cam with masking tape.
I think they use gyroscope for motion detect.

I know that is not a camera but I mean that will be beter to use it for turning off during calling. That was the way of working of the normal sensor in other phones.

They can't use the camera as a hardware sensor as it uses a lot of power, not necessarily the sensor itself, but the imaging system on the SoC needs to be powered up, and it is a lot of data being processed just to try and use it as a proximity sensor.
True proximity sensors use a pulsing infrared LED and an infrared sensor, and the infrared bouncing back from something in close proximity can be detected, and this is very reliable.
Because the screen only has a small hole for the camera with narrow bezels, the proximity sensor has to be placed behind the OLED display, and Xiaomi for some reason has not gone down this route on this device. It is possible to have a normal proximity sensor behind the screen and for it to be tuned to work, as many devices do this already, but perhaps for cost or licencing reasons or to save space behind the screen they have not done this.
As far as I'm aware, the proximity sensor is a virtual sensor by detecting if the phone is held vertically, and using an Ultrasonic sound from the speaker being picked up by the microphone, it attempts to work out if near a face or not. If you hold your phone such that it isn't vertical against your face, the sensor will likely assume the phone is not against a face and so will not turn off the display.
On my 11t pro i did not see problem with sensor
I have the same problem....i think ill sell that phone...
Xiaomi is using ultrasonic proximity sensors on majority of their phones. Some users experience issues with it, some don't.
It all comes down to how you hold your phone while talking.
Selling this **** phone, so mad at the sensor ****, wtf is this, if Xiaomi cant fix it with the software then its useless.
Is it ok for the consumer to pay money for a phone that is crappy, i will not take that ****....
When I moved to miui eu The problem is gone, I don't know what is the cause of the problem in the original system, perhaps you have googled to contact
wait, i thought 11T and 11T Pro did have a hardware proximity sensor?
usually kimovil differentiates between 'proximity sensor' and 'ultrasonic-proximity' which they also did with these 2 devices. kimovil is the first thing i check if i see a new phone i like.

They just grab info from many store website compare and rearrange to theirs website with filled micro details. So basically they doesn't know what's really inside the phone. I think they doesn't even have a hardware in there hands.

This app has fixed this issue for me. Just set permissions and then all sorted. I stopped notifications because I don't like the permanent notification showing its running, but that's personal preference.
Have that app instaled, it helps but it still turns on the screen when i use the phone..
