Hi, I got a T-mobile S5, and unlocked it. My 3G works but LTE won't register, I am 100% sure that the APN is correct.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
-You need an att modem file flashed on your device, but im not 100% sure. Ihave my stock rom files from kies and amoung them is my csc file. Keep reading. Get to know your phone.-

Start by rooting your phone and getting a custom recovery (Philz). Check the tmobil section of s5 ...

He does not need an AT&T modem flashed on his device. That would most likely result in a brick.
OP: Try dialing *#2263# and make sure automatic is selected. Also go into setting, mobile networks and set it to LTE/GSM/WCDMA

I tried to do LTE only and it has the right network code, but it won't activate. I checked my ATT online profile and it doesn't have a "LTE" data plan and I think that is the problem. I'll try again tomorrow once it takes effect and report back

Ok you need to give ATT the IMEI number from one of their LTE android devices. Just go to the store to get one from one of the demo devices. Then your account will be provisioned for LTE.

The guy above is correct, you need at&t to register your imei into their network to access their LTE.... They should do it for you no problem, just give them a call....however I wouldn't be surprised if they don't! Another way is to find someone with an extra LTE phone and just activate that imei and your LTE should pop up

If he registers his T-Mobile S5 on AT&T he will still have problems. AT&T won't recognize the T-Mobile IMEI number, and therefore it will list as a GSM device.
He needs to find an IMEI number of one of AT&T's LTE android devices. Once he has called AT&T CS and have had them provision his account for LTE, then he can just pop in his AT&T sim card to his T-Mobile S5. He'll get LTE then.

Just wondering where did you unlock the phone from and how long did it take to get the unlock code?
Thanks for everyone's help. I am good to go.
I took a SIM from another LTE device. I think it does need to be registered as a IMEI from an ATT device and that was the problem.

Now that you are getting AT&T LTE on the T-Mobile variant, can you please comment on LTE signal strength? This is a deal breaker for me. When I had the TMO Note 3 on AT&T, LTE reception sucked. If you can compare it with an AT&T branded phone, that would be great.
Another person using the G900T. Congrats
My experience is that coverage is just as good if not better. Same radio, same antenna, I wouldn't expect it to be any different?
The TMO GS5 has all the needed ATT LTE Bands no need for a radio flash, I'm using one on ATT now, have gotten LTE from day 1, as stated only requirement is the sim has to be originally activated on a LTE ATT device and that the APN is set properly.
What kind of speed is everyone getting with the tmo s5 on att network? I have an att s5 next to a tmo s5 and att s5 is getting 50mbps vs tmo at 20mbps. I am wondering if I needed to configure something on the tmo devices?

Check your APN setting. The T-Mobile S5 should have the same exact APN settings your S5 has. Can you also comment on LTE reception on the T-Mobile S5 using AT&t?

APN is exactly the same as AT&T one. Reception is also same as AT&T one but the speed is a show stopper if it's half the speed. Any one have any ideas?

I would also like to do this, but I just want to clarify something. I just bought an AT&T S5. Brand new, unopened, still in the box. I want to swap it for a T-Mobile S5, as the bootloader is unlocked. If I keep the AT&T SIM card before I sell it, and put it into the new Tmo S5, will I have any foreseeable issues? Will it work just like that, or will I need to retrieve something from my S5 before I swap it?
Thanks.
EDIT: I should clarify that the device is unactivated, and when I do activate it, I will be porting my existing number from Verizon.

There are.. ummm... 6 or 10 different galaxy note 5 models. There are dozens of different carriers. Several dozen different countries.
Answering your question is impossible without more information.
However, "PRL" tends to be a CDMA thing (and one that Verizon is phasing out) - meaning that you're likely using a US Sprint (or less likely, a US Verizon) model... in which case you'd have better luck asking in those particular sections.

I understand but am actually using a US Cellular Note 5. Since there is no thread for this model, I posted in the general section. I have gone through every service menu that populates in the Phone Info Samsung app and found a section to put it in download mode but it does not work when I put it in. My computer makes no noise when plugging in the usb or removing it. I read in this thread that I had to enable CP Logging but I can't find that option either.

US Cellular (comical name when "cell phones" haven't worked on the "cell" or "cellular" concept in decades)... Anyway.. they use CDMA. Most likely, your device is closer related to Sprint or Verizon (both of which use CDMA.)
Have you considered calling up your wireless provider and asking them? Different CDMA carriers tend to use different mechanisms for updating preferred roaming lists. I know with some carriers, they can initiate the PRL update remotely...
I tried but it didn't work. I also called *228 and tried it that way but it failed as well. I'm trying to get this phone to recognize the Verizon Wireless network setup to get on LTE but I can't unless I can manually update the PRL. I am currently running this phone with Verizon but only 3G data..

So... you have a US Cellular branded Note 5 and you're trying to use it on Verizon's network? Is that something that normally works with USC phones? Do you have a verizon SIM in the device? Is the device sim unlocked? Is this a roaming situation?
To be honest, you'd be much better off giving full information ahead of time instead of making people trying to guess at it. Your first post in this thread gave nearly 0 useful information. Your second suggests that you're using a USC branded device but gave no indication that you're trying to use it on VZW towers. Your third suggests that you are trying to use it with VZW towers, but doesn't say if you are trying to roam or using a VZW SIM, etc. (Note: most carrier branded devices are SIM-locked to that carrier - meaning you can't just use a SIM from another carrier and expect anything to work.)
That being said, you're also bordering an area that I need to back away from due to various professional NDA's. I'm quite sure, however, that others here can help you more (assuming you provide them the info they'd need to help you.)
Take care

Yes, I have a US Cellular Note 5 and I am Currently using it on Verizon's Network. I am unsure if this is something that NORMALLY works, but in this case it has worked. I have a Verizon SIM in the device. Apparently, the device is sim unlocked. This is not a roaming situation.

I don't mean to be blunt, but if you read my first post, I was only asking if anyone with this phone in general, regardless of model, had any luck with getting the device in diagnostic mode. I had stated what I was personally trying to accomplish with getting this particular phone to work as well just in case if anyone was wondering. If I needed to get into more details with the models, I would have gladly provided that information as well. I have read a few posts from people stating that they were able to get US Cellular phones working on Verizon's network but only with 3G Data. I took it upon myself to research the newest iteration of the Note line and found that for the most part they had inter-operable frequency bands. So with that being said, I reached out to the community for help in seeing if this phone was able to be put in diagnostic mode. That is all I had asked. I appreciate your trying to explain the differences within the different carriers technologies, but I already have a pretty good grasp on which carriers use which technologies. Thank You for your help.

You are welcome. This is a good example of why people like me tend to avoid helping people like you. First we have to beg and plead to get the information we need to help you, and then when we try to be helpful and suggest that you provide as much information as possible UP FRONT, you get "blunt."
Okay. Fine. I'll answer your question as asked. I'm sure you'll find it very unhelpful, but it's "blunt."
So, your answer: "Yes."

I was looking to get the new HTC u11 which for Verizon can only be done unlocked but there are a ton of people having a ton of issues on Verizon with the unlocked model: IMEI not accepted on Verizon, missing bands, no cdma (so no 3g or 1x), missing visual voicemail, no immediate HD calling, no Wi-Fi calling, notification issues and Verizon essentially saying the phone was never qualified on their Network so support is limited and so will future updates to the phone like getting Wi-Fi calling working. So that option is dead to me as getting an unlocked phone without carrier bloat is great but not great if it's having this many issues.
So... I'm curious if the same thing happens with the unlocked version of the S8 on Verizon? Or is it 100% functioning just minus the carrier bloat?
Answer = no
No CDMA radio so no 3G or 1x in remote or spotty places. A tech told me.

Works fine on VZW all s8's are using the same hardware, only difference is the customized carrier software.

The S8 has a CDMA radio. It is the same hardware that Verizon and Sprint use for the carrier model.
I'M on the unlocked model, notice my phone was using 3g so yes it can. For some reason my father in law was not able to add a line to our plan because my phone was marked on the account as incompatible. Was told to go get a new sim card and everything was working before and after so I'm not sure? The tech wasn't sure why I had to get a new SIM. I had popped it out of my iPhone 7 and it worked immediately on my s8. I have not found the wifi calling feature though.
Does UDP native tethering work our of the box on the unlocked model on Verizon? How about HD voice? Both of these work on my Moto X Pure, even though is is not Verizon certified.

Works fine with 3g...my office sux and my unlocked works in 3g on verizon just fine.
Best part about unlocked - no tether subscription check, so I can keep tethering my old unlimited data plan without paying the tether fee
From what I can tell, only visual voicemail is not working on verizon, but google voice forwarding is just as good. Plus it was like this on the 6p until it upgraded to 7.1 at which time it worked natively, so the S8 might eventually get the same treatment.

How do you properly set up Google Voice so that you can use it as Visual Voicemail. I tried setting it up via the old Legacy Google Voice link through PC browser. Thought I had everything working, but not sure. I may have enabled an extra step, as everytime I dial out, it hangs up and auto redials really quickly. Like it routes all outgoing calls through GV too. Sometimes it redials the same number, sometimes it's a completely random number.

They had me put in some crazy string into the phone. But make sure google chat is unchecked on the legacy site. Then click the little link for voicemail forwarding. Go through the prompts and it works fine. I had to put do not disturb so it doesnt ring through to my voice number, but it seems to working just fine. Make sure the setting on the non legacy site are all unchecked too
So far the only thing that doesn't appear to work is WiFi calling. VoLTE works but there is no indication of HD Voice on the handset.

Yes, this is because the IMEI is not "in the system" so you cannot use the phone to activate a new SIM unless you have the IMEI added to the VZW database. The solution to this is to active the SIM in a VZW handset and then put that SIM into the S8.

Great! Thanks for letting me know. Confirmed... when I am out of LTE coverage areas there is no 2x or 3x , only 1x voice. In practice this means no MMS (2x), or any other data. No group texts, fun. You can still make and receive phone calls and SMS. This kinda sucks.

I have WiFi calling but not video.
I'm on the Global firmware, no issues. Wifi calling is provisioned, but after a lengthy chat with AT&T, was told that the Razer Phone 2 is not compatible on their network for wifi calling. Yet when going to their site and sorting by phones capable of wifi calling, the phone is listed. I may or may not have yelled at them and told them to take it off the list.

I was hoping someone could say there experience with using it on Verizon's network?
It seems this reviewer tried it on Verizon: pcmag com /product-guides/137219/asus-rog-phone-3
We asked in the comments and I emailed him personally but he did not respond.
I think it working on 4g is a good bet. You would just have to root to be able to enable VoLTE and Wifi calling. Like they did for the ROG phone 2.

So did you see my post? Right above yours? I dont understand everyone's refusal to believe what is posted here. It gets 4g data only.

So, just to be sure that I understand you correctly. You are saying it will ONLY do data? No calls?
Could you also please give your reason, knowledge, or sources for the statement? Thank you in advance.
