Hey!
Ive been noticing an issue with my device, since I think the update to MIUI 11 (but not sure).
Description:
- The compass (and other apps using compass like Google maps) gives incorrect readings, when put horizontally. When put horizontally and kept still, the compass will spin regularly ca 2 degrees per second completely independent from the actual pointing direction. When the phone is kept vertically the compass works normally. I have made a video displaying the correct reading when vertically, and the spinning when kept horizontally: https://youtu.be/xgC4fHqH4Ys
- When checking the underlying gyroscope functionality with "Sensor Multitool", I have come across what I think is an erratic z axis reading. When I spin the phone randomly, the gyroscope in the x and y axis registers adequate readings, but the z axis stays completely flat. I have produced a video showing this behavior: https://youtu.be/1dY_xdF5Nz8
I have found this thread from Aliosa007 ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3972249 ) that describes a very similar issue, but this user had recently flashed a new rom and the problem is attributed with the flashing. The users there assume the issue being a corrupt persist.img and most problem solving techniques involve flashing etc. But my phone is locked and not rooted. Could I also have received a corrupt persist.img during the normal update process recently to MIUI 11.
Currently trying to figure out, what the best way forward is. Wait and hope that this will be fixed with the next update or go the warranty route?
Thanks for helping me out with this one!
Hi.
I'm sorry I won't be very useful since I'm just having the exact same problem as you and don't know how to solve it... My phone isn't flashed either and my compass spins continuously.
I just wanted to know if you found a solution since your original post.
I also wanted to know if you tried factory resetting your phone ? I was thinking about trying that but if you already did and it didn't solve the issue, maybe I won't bother...
Thanks in advance.

Hey Tistou, thanks for your message. I haven't found a solution to the issue yet, unfortunately.
I tried factory resetting the phone but that didn't solve it. Did this problem just occur one day - or was it after you updated the phone? In my case Im not 100% sure it began after the updated and if it didn't, it could be an indication for a hardware issue.
I will keep this thread up to date in case I find a solution to the issue. But at the moment, I am out of ideas. I thought about flashing the phone with an alternative ROM and replace the persist.img. But currently the assumed risk/benefit keep me up from doing that. I'd assume sending Xiaomi feedback on that issue
Best,

Hey,
well I couldn't really tell if it's related to an update : I got my mi 9T pro like two or three weeks ago and updated to 11.0.3 the day I got it...
The weird thing is that I noticed the problem one first time, and then two or three days later the issue solved itself without me doing anything particular and my compass started working normally again... And then two or three days ago it started spinning continuously again... I just hope it's software related and not an hardware issue...
I think I'm just going to wait for the next system update and if doesn't solve the problem I may send the phone back (but I don't wanna ... The phone otherwise is so great...).
I'll update the thread if I find something.
Good luck
Hi there, I had a similar problem a while ago when going from custom rom Android 10 back to miui 10 Android 9. Pop up camera and gyro sensors wouldn't work so no auto rotate either. Simple fix was to flash the persist img in custom recovery, then go into stock camera app and it'll ask to calibrate, after than everything worked fine. This should work for you and everyone else with this problem hopefully.
Flashing persist won't wipe any of your data so don't worries there. I'll see if I can find the file I have it somewhere and I'll send the link.
So really the only way to fix this is to have compatible custom recovery with persist partition, flash the persist.img, but since you have a locked bootloader and stock recovery I don't think you have any options to fix this unfortunately, maybe fastboot rom through miflash? That didn't work for me but it might work for you.

Thank you so much for your response! That keeps my hopes up that I get it solved eventually.
I am currently not planning to unlock my bootloader, I am currently exploring to go the warranty route because that's the easiest way forward. But in case that won't work, I will definitely try to flash the persist.img. I will have to try to get my hands on the persist.img file!
Thanks again!

persist.img is in the fastboot rom, so if you download that and extract you can get the img. You should be able to flash it thru fastboot using adb on PC with the command 'fastboot flash persist persist.img'. no need to unlock bootloader
I'm not gonna be near my PC for a while so won't be able to upload it for you

Sorry sir, but i think you cannot flash persist.img thru fastboot, because it read-only partition ,
I read several times that it must be flashed with twrp (dunno what that means)... But I also read that it makes you lose L1 widevine (dunno what that means either). Could someone enlighten me ?
And do you think the next MIUI update could fix that ?

Not an expert on the matter. But a peripheral knowledge of the matter.
It appears to me that you are new to the matter. So I will use easy language.
TWRP is a so called "custom recovery" for Android that allows users to basically change the underlying firmware/system software (a process often referred to as "flashing") of the device. It is basically the entry point towards conveniently changing system files, that Android normally forbids you to change. To install a costum recovery, the bootloader of the phone has to be unlocked, so that the device can boot into the custom recovery instead of the OS directly. https://www.quora.com/What-is-TWRP-Why-is-it-used?share=1
Widevine L1 is a software part within Android that basically authenticates, that the device at hand is allowed to handle media files that are DRM protected (eg. within Netflix). When Android has been changed from the default configuration (by flashing a custom rom), the software part should revoke the authorization or restrict it. This behavior depends I think on the capability of the custom rom to trick widevine into believing that its genuine.(not so sure about that)
https://www.androidauthority.com/widevine-explained-821935/
Heres hoping that the next update will solve the issue! The issue isnt so dramatic to go the persist.img route. So I will patiently wait for the update. I will keep the thread updated.

Hola @schnodda123, ¿Logaste darle solución? No he podido arreglar mi eje z en mi caso en un Redmi Note 8, estoy algo incomodo, si bien el celular funciona bien el tener el sensor mal es fastidioso
Hi @ schnodda123, Did you manage to give it a solution? I have not been able to fix my z axis in my case on a Redmi Note 8, I am somewhat uncomfortable, although the cell phone works well, having the wrong sensor is annoying
My phone is bricked. No fast boot, no safe boot, it is completely unresponsive.
After trying everything with the Mi Flash tool, and after wasting days and days of time,
I decided to try to go for the Qfil procedure and to do so I need the Prog Emmc Firehose.mbn for the snap dragon 855.
Could anybody help me by giving me a link to it?
I will post the procedure if I will solve the problem without taking the smartphone to a xiaomi center.

I've not yet heard of anyone ever fixing this phone using that method. Only solution I'm aware of is to try EDL flashing, which unfortunately means a service centre or finding someone with an authorised account.

Download Patched Firehose File (prog_emmc_firehose.mbn) for 600+ Android Devices
From this guide, you could download Patched Firehose File, also known as prog_emmc_firehose.mbn file for over 600+ Android devices for Xiaomi, etc.

I have a major problem with my new Mi 11 Ultra and wondered if anyone had any suggestions at all.
My problem is, I purchased a Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra direct from China, and, after unlocking I then I tried to update the ROM to the EU version, it then into a mode where it would only boot into "Fastboot Mode" ,and, nothing else, so I was advised to try to flash the Rom to the original China version using the Xiaomi flask tool, it did then boot into a slighlty different mode, but, when I run the flash programme it says it is flashing, but, just sits there counting away the seconds, but, doing nothing even after 4 hours, I have tried it several times with the same issue, not really sure if theres anything that can be done or if its a dustbin job!
Any suggestions would be apreciated.
Hi All,
I received an update notification yesterday on my China Market device with Global ROM and I immediately downloaded the update to MIUI13. I had 60% battery when the download finished and after downloading it did an app optimization. After that, I hit the reboot button with 58% battery. The device turned off and since then the device is literally not showing any sign of life. it doesn't charge or show up in the ADB devices list. My MBP doesn't recognize USB in the devices list. What is the best option I have? From threads, it doesn't sound like a brick or EDL mode to me but should I still contact the EDL guy?
Just an update. I was using Macbook to test if the device is alive. MacBook Pro doesn't show any updates when you connect a new device. I plugged USB into a Windows machine installed on my Bootcamp, Windows recognized the device as Qualcomm 9008. Which is effectively in EDL mode. I have no idea how the device got into that mode but my assumption is that I had TWRP installed with BL open and when going from Android 11 to Android 12 via MIUI13, something called anti-rollback protection which was implemented by Xiaomi put the phone into EDL mode. Luckily, I am in the UK and got in touch with Xiaomi after sales, they agreed to repair it because the issue was caused by a software update.
Lesson Learned: Never update your phone via OTA to a newer android version without taking a proper backup. A really bad experience with Xiaomi. it cost me one day to try to fix and will be costing me some time to install everything back after the repair. I am seriously thinking to buy an iPhone now.

I dont think its about anti-rollback function
That function only affect when u try to flash from higher miui version back to lower version. It will not allow u to do that
In your case, it 's all about xiaomi software problem :| and it is unacceptable problem

Well, finally I got in touch with the EDL guy and he fixed it smoothly. I literally had to go through a lot of documents and websites to understand the problem but he fixed it in 10 minutes. I think he is using some sort of cracked miFlashTool where he interferes with the communication between the phone and Xiaomi servers and bypasses authorization issues. I think many people are having problems at that point when following the EDL operation explained on the internet. Anyways, fixed it fairly easily and cheaply.

By Global eu rom you mean EEA or Xiaomi.eu ROM?
p.s. I know at least one Mi 11 ultra and one Mi 11 faced the same issue

my fastboot is locked and my brain 2 is locked dont know hat to do anymore
If you can get to fastboot, you can flash the original stock ROM. Plenty of instructions here and on the Xiaomi EU forums. You only need edl if you cannot get to fastboot.

You cannot flash anything in fastboot if bootloader is locked
In that case, you will need an edl flash to recover. But be careful that he doesn't leave it with an edl account permission or you won't be able to unlock without that edl account. Although I thought you could flash the original stock firmware that it came with back on with it locked.
Hi, i have same problem after try to flash Miui 13. But The MIflash tool shows error:sw path is not valid, have not found solution for this error message. How can I Get in contact with the EDl Guy.. I have a Mi 11 Pro
Reminds my about the new released Samsung galaxy S22 series, lots of problems for some weeks now_
It´s so frustrating that the update caused this. It´s now the first time for me to solve this problem. But I have so many other issues that I don´t have the time for this. I´ve read some threads where some persons have written about people who can unbrick it online. This would be right now my first choice. Could somebody help me where I can contact someone for help please.

Hello same here - I guess flashed wrong version from EEA instead of EU of Android 11 - all went good but then I allowed OTA updates and finally update to MUI13 I had a brick.
Now I am in contact with one EDL guy but not certain he is legit. Can you send me PM for your contact?
I'm planning on purchasing this phone but things like this one makes me worried. Is there a risk to update the eu stable firmwares from fastboot with bootloader unlocked?
If you know how to do it, no risk.
Hello dear community,
I have a problem with my Mi 11 Ultra, I been having a issue where my phone restarts randomly. (It can happen at any time, I can be on Youtube, Whatsapp, Maps, Idle, etc and the phone will suddenly flash a green screen and restart. Heavy use or light use, I cant detect a pattern .....)
I been having this Issue 2 month after I bought this phone with CHINA ROM MIUI 13
after that 2 months the restarts appeared.... (can´t remember if there was a System update or something but from April 2022 to May 2022 the phone was working excellent)
I have read that MIUI 13 in other POCO and Xiaomi Phones have the same behavior.. but cant find any solution for MI 11 ULTRA
What I have tried with no positive result:
(Wipe everything with TWRP, all the options, cache, data, interna, etc.)
Install STABLE MIUI EU ROM - Clean Install
Install Weekly MIUI EU ROM - Clean Install
Update Security app - Latest Version in APK Mirror
Delete Cache security app
Today I tried to install Global with MiFlash Tool but mi flash anti rollback check error occurred ;( (Don't know how to solve this...)
Do you think I have a defective Phone with bad Motherboard?
This is very frustrating and at this point I dont know if should buy a Xiaomi Phone again....
Any Help will be appreciated
Hi, i believe you are facing the issue when you are on wifi i am also facing same problem, when on mobile data there is no problem, can u confirm if its same? Wifi problem
in my case It happens on WiFi and mobile Data.
U can flash using platform tools to get rid of antiroll back, search for tutorial in YouTube, try miui 12.5
Global same issue..
Maybe a bad Motherboard?
So yesterday I Flashed OEM CN Rom, update with OTA and the problem persisted...
Then read about issues with restarts and Location Services in MIUI.
I Installed MIUI_EU Latest BETA ROM and deactivated location.
Right now I haven't experienced a single restart. Tomorrow I will activate location to see if the problem persists or maybe the update solved the problem.
Did anyone find a solution?
I bought mine on aliexpress and I have the same problem. It crashes and restarts numerous times a day.
Unlock bootloader and install global MIUI 13.0.4.
Very stable , no crashes/restarts.
the bootloader is unlocked. do i install the rom via fastboot or TWRP?
Both method should be fine .
If using TWRP , use format data option first, else system won't boot up.
If using Miflash use clean all but make sure don't use the lock option.

in the first 24 hours yes. it was working perfect.
Then it started to restart and crash.
without solution.
I am having the same issue....
Please look in the /root/data/vendor/ramdump folder.
I am having lots of ramdumps eating space.
So just received the phone yesterday after sending it for repair to Xiaomi All the way back to China... And this piece of trash phone still rebooting.... Never buying again a phone from this trash company... Also Giztop is so unprofessional because they didn't solved the issue ... They told me that the phone was on perfect condition and they weren't able to solve it. Thanks to them I also had to pay 250usd of taxes because they send it like if it was a new unit... Give yourself a favor and don't buy from Giztopz, they send defective phones.
Try disabling the RAM extension feature.
Or try a custom rom like EvolutionX or CrDroid.
