Hi all,
I have a strange issue with my Nexus 6. For background I am using 64GB model, sim unlocked, stock, not rooted, not OEM unlocked, v5.0.1.
I recently purchased the Nexus 6, restored my account and apps to it. So far so good. Next time I started up the phone, I noticed NFC had stopped working. Checking the Settings menu it had completely disappeared along with "Tap and Pay". I know they were there before but they had gone. I went back to the retailers who happily swapped it for another.
Nexus 6 #2 - EXACTLY the same thing happened. I could then only presume an app was somehow causing it. After uninstalling/installing loads of apps I finally figured it out - any "large" app being installed seems to kill NFC on reboot. I don't know exactly how "large" it needs to be but the offending apps are all over 1GB. Any one (I have three such apps) of those installed and NFC goes. Uninstall it, reboot and it's available again.
I can replicate it everytime and on two different devices. Can anyone else confirm/deny/test the above and advise? If it was a bug I would have thought there would be other reports but then >1GB apps are fairly unusual. I can also confirm it DOESN'T happen on my (unrooted, stock) Nexus 5 running v5.0.1.
Any thoughts or ideas greatlly appreciated
TIA!
Am I really he only person suffering from this on two different phones?

I have the CW 64 and i have a lot of games installed.
Some close to 4GB and my NFC works great, I pay with google wallet a lot.
My google play music is 15GB with the downloaded music from all access.
My guess is that one of your apps (possibly pre lollipop with no update ) are causing this.

Top man, you solved it! I was working on the assumption that a user installed app couldn't interfere with a system service like this!
I used an Application Permission app to see which of my apps had access to NFC, and there were a couple of old ones that I don't even use any more. Uninstalled them, restarted the phone and all working perfectly now

Which apps specifically??
---------- Post added at 01:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:11 AM ----------
I've only gone and fixed it!
IO don't know how or why, or which of these steps are unnecessary, but I will post EVERY step that I took, and the reason behind taking these steps was for the purpose of fixing secure fast unlock which seemed to be broken based on location, and I was attempting to fix it via bluetooth secure unlock, in the hope that fixing it via bluetooth would fix it via location too, and at the same time i was trying to figure out what was wrong with the NFC...
Settings, accessibility, turn all off (i had previously had pushbullet on, turn off_
install F secure app permissions, filter NFC, open every app that has NFC permissions
settings, security, smart lock, input pattern, trusted devices, add a newly paired bluetooth device (i used my laptop).
lock phone, unlock phone, to ensure that smart lock is working.
switch bluetooth off, lock, unlock to ensure that trusted location smart lock is working
settings, "more", turn aeroplane mode on. turn aeroplane mode off.
phone switched off, switched back on, askwd for pattern unlock before boot, upon boot NFC and android beam settings are restored in the "more" settings menu.
Please try it and confirm whether or not this is a valid fix
Hi, guys. I bought a Note 5 (N9200) from China and rooted it to get Google stuff. It was difficult, but thanks to all nice posts here, especially this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/help/note-5-sm-n9200-china-install-google-t3213646, by thisisnick.
Everything worked find, but, but unfortunately, it keeps forgetting Wi-Fi passwords each time powered off. Very annoying. Anybody knows how to deal with this? Many thanks!!!
And one more annoying thing, it keeps giving an pop up message saying "Unauthorised actions have been detected. Restart your device to undo any unauthorised changes."
Apart from these, it all works fine and nice. Could anyone please help!!
:good:
Go to Settings > WiFi.
Press the 3 dots upper right corner of screen.
Select Advanced.
Scroll down to Auto Login, tic the box & got should be good to go.
That way when you get in range of your router, it'll auto connect.
Good afternoon.
I have a att galaxy s6 edge G925a. And I flashed it to the extreme syndicate custom rom using flashfire. Everything seemed to work fine until I started the bluetooth.
It allowed me to pair with one device, and right after that , the message of " settings have stopped" appears. And it won't allow me to scan for more devices or open the bluetooth settings.
I can turn on and off the bluetooth icon. But i cannot acces the scan screen
I have tried to clear the cache of settings and bluetooth apps, I reflashed by the same method.
Any help or suggestions?
Thank you
I have the same problem.
Do you fixed the problem?
Wi-Fi been working fine in Android 9 (Dirty Unicorn version), now it won't stay on at all and to top it off it show no MAC address. How do I get it back on?

Does it allows to turn WiFi on?
WiFi comes on and then turns off by itself?
[CLOSED] fixed -
re-installed "9", everything working again.
I've had this too. Sometimes wif-fi just refuses to re-enable after the TP goes to sleep. The toggle moves and then just slides back. The only way to re-enable is to reboot. I'll give a re-install a go when the next version is released as it is not a major problem for me. Just thought I'd mention it as it is not an isolated incident.

I have not experience that "yet".
Make sure the WiFi connection is " Treat as unmetered" ( this is Android feature ) not ROM
Besides that, any settings or extra Apps that the user install could make WiFi work differently.
Also Android 9 must use a swap partition and the settings from the Guide.
I've not actually in stalled much as I still prefer to use webOS!! Hate me if you like but Android & iOS are now bringing in their own versions of gestures and 'cards' that webOS had nearly 10 years ago. On this basis I still have the Swap file so all is good there.
I'll check the Android settings later to make sure, however for the device to be working fine, put down (in the 6 year old wireless charger) and left for a couple of hours and then you cannot enable wifi does not sound like an issue with the basic Android settings. Either this in an install problem, a ROM problem or a hardware problem. As there just 2 of us with this and _dave reinstalled and it seems to be good for him I'll presume it is an install problem for now and just live with it until I get bored - or an updated ROM is released.

I do agree with you on the WebOS interface and we clearly see now how the others mobile OS have implemented the WebOS gestures and other things.
On this basis I still have the Swap file so all is good there.
WebOS was the first and truly a mobile operating system designed for a Tablet and the swap partition is part of that.

I have been running youtube playing music since 8 am this morning and now is 3pm data usage for that tablet is over 2 GB and I have the Super variant install of Open Gapps, the maximum that can be flash. WiFi does not drop as is all working. I turn WiFi on and off, it reconnects. When dealing with WiFi there are two devices involved and two settings, router and tablet. I had issues with disconnects and it was due to my manual settings that I had on the router and there was interference. I mostly set up all settings to auto, selected channel 11 that does not have much interference "where I am" and all went away.
Either this in an install problem, a ROM problem or a hardware problem. As there just 2 of us with this and _dave reinstalled and it seems to be good for him I'll presume it is an install problem for now and just live with it until I get bored - or an updated ROM is released.

When describing an issue, it must be very specific.
1. WiFi does not reconnect to the same wireless network ( does not see it) WiFi icon is outline but not filled.
2. WiFi is completely off, does not see any network ( WiFi icon is not visible ) OFF
What is the graphical status of the WiFi icon next to the battery icon ( outline or filled )?
OK. As I just posted to show that _dave was not alone, I think (for me) this is getting out of hand. Whilst I do appreciate your time and knowledge, it is simply (again for me) not a significant problem.
However. If I use the TP it is not a problem so streaming music would be in the realms of using. The issue I have is that after using it I place it inthe dock and when I pick it up again hours later I sometimes find wifi is not enabled. I got to settings and toggle the 'slider' to ON and a second later the 'slider' moves back to the OFF position. I simply cannot make the 'slider' stay in the ON position. If I restart the TP everything is fine and dandy again.
So for me a quick reboot is sufficient to keep me using this ROM. I know I can roll back to an earlier ROM or even try Pie again like _dave did. As we seem to be the only two users that have voiced a problem here and he has fixed his I cannot ask you to look into this further - unless there are other users that are also affected.
RIP webOS

Where would I find the "Android feature" for the WiFi connection? Other then the ROM I don't know how to get to this feature.

Settings --->> Network & Internet --->>WiFi ( connected WiFi is the first one ) to the right (the blue icon)
The last down (Advanced).
Also WiFi will take time to connect again after the Tablet comes out of standby (sleep)
What kernel speed did you flashed from the Guide?

Thanks, got it
For some reason I did not installed any kernel speed-up, should I and can I just add it now (already setup)? I'm thinking of using the 1728000 version or should I go higher?
Thanks for all your support.:good:

It is a must and that is why the guide was created and those files fixes issues with the non working Bluetooth and the performance of the ROM, is not only to speed-up. It clearly state to flash in the specific order.
1. ROM
2. Kernel Boots optimize settings
3. Open gapps (Pico recommend)

If you are not familiar or know the maximum CPU frequency your tablet can handle flash the 1728 if you experience reboots then try lower. If want to get better performance then try 1782 and 1836 if the tablet can handle it.
But always follows the instructions exactly as posted it, that is how the ROM was tested and guarantee to work.
You are welcome!

I started over again and flash the ROM then the 172 and pico app, didn't have a reboot problem but I lost WiFi again (keeps going off, even after rebooting). So, I dropped down to 1674 and everything working again. I'll stay with 1674 for now, at least until the next ROM update.
Again, thanks for your help.:good:

Yeah, tried LuneOS (it's many iterations) and although it is moving in the right direction it is still not as polished as webOS was when it died (has it ever actually died?). I still use apps from the old app store but Android is just easier as it is up to date and works. If webOS development was restarted and brought fully up to date with a decent stocked store it would (and should have) been a great success. Oh well :crying:
I thought about a LG TV but can't justify the cost whilst my Sammy TV is working

Also check your router settings if there are interference on the channels and is set to automatically change channels the Tablet may have issues updating to the new channel.

A higher frequency that the tablet can not handle will make it reboot or freeze, using the closer highest frequency for the Tablet will make it work better.
Again, thanks for your help.:good:

LuneOS is work in progress, but at least the built it browser works well. WebOS is alive on the LG TVS

The most important on any OS is the Apps available that add functionality.

Developers support and willing to develop App for the platform is the key to a successful OS.

I think that the only thing that is need it is a Theme pack to cosmetically make Android 9 look like WebOS. The gestures are the same.
LOL you're forgetting QT web browser and QupZilla on the TP now
I have the theme and Fling settings on an old Experia but that didn't feel right (there was a tutorial a while back in Pivot). Palm had the interface/UX just about perfect but it was never loved by the public and HP didn't really give a sh*t.

To me Pie is very similar to WebOS, even the charging sound is very similar to the finished boot sound in WebOS.
All is changing and we must adapt to it, to be able to keep the Tablet updated and useful.
Android Q is already in Beta, who knows if it will boot in the HP TP and the developers will take the challenge.
Hi HP_TOUCHPAD, once again I cannot get my TP to see my WiFi (rest of my devices - no problem). And once again the "advance" section does not show up in "Network & Internet" section. So how do I get the "advance" section to show up again.

@_dave sorry for the delay. Staring with Oreo 8.1 if any changes are done to the router the WiFi connection will be lost and the Tablet will not see the WiFi signal that was connected to and a reboot is required. If the router was changed then, select forget network and connect again. The same issue is present in Pie 9.
Hi friends, I just got a notification that there was an update to Book Cover Keyboard for my Tab S8 Ultra - Anyone have any idea what was updated / changelog?
I saw this video
apparently it fixes the touchpad issue where you type and then touch the touchpad and it wouldn't work for another 5 seconds then mouse pointer starts moving. But with this update it fixes the touchpad so it will work straight away without delay after typing.
Got the update notification after a reboot and following the video's instruction.
It installed properly on my rooted S8U 5G !
Keyboard does feel way better, I had some latency and intermittent issue before (not responding or continuous typing the last letter i typed) that seems fix. i'll update this post if i see any issue.
thanks for the info friends!
What steps are necessary to get the update prompt? (My S8 Ultra is rooted with version SPA1....AVC5 / Feb 1st security patch level)
I installed mine from AVC5 but now that AVCD is out, you may wanna update first.
to get the update prompt:
-be connected to the net via wifi, LTE or 5g with your keyboard attached
-detach your keyboard for 5-10s and attach it back
-update prompt should relatively soon afterwards
My keyboard failed to update and is still having issues. Anybody know how to initiate the update any other way? Removing the keyboard doesn't work.
have you tried to turn it off an on again?

Disconnect the keyboard, turn the tablet off and then wait 15 mins and power it back on while keyboard is disconnected and not attached. Unlock the device and when it's ready. Try attaching the keyboard again and hopefully a new popup window comes with update notice. Idk if this works just a try and see if it does.
Make sure it is connected to WiFi or mobile data such 4G or 5G if it has that and if WiFi isn't available.
Mine just randomly prompted today to install the firmware when I attached the keyboard. You may have to not do anything other than wait.
I'm still on ...AVC5 update as well.
