Nokia 8 update via 4G takes +5 days, another way? - Nokia 8 Questions & Answers

Problem at hand is updating a android 7.1 Nokia 8, a TA-1004.
No wifi available, so first "getting started" update with mobile data (first boot -> "must update" -> "downloading update 1600 MB"). Hopeless: after waiting over the weekend, aborted. I have to read emails and sms!
- As you know, you can then ONLY boot Nokia 8 into the android 7.1 if you select "don't use network". BUT this defaults the 7.1 system in to "update over wifi". As far as I know there is NO way to change this to mobile data.
- If I choose "mobile data", it just sits there for days (1.6GB ~ max 30 minutes on my connection), and I won't have a phone/net.
I was looking for way to download the android oreo 8.1 image on the phone/sdcard, but there doesn't seem to be a site for TA-1004. No, I will not load a phone update from "someguyzcoolphonehack.com". Nokia Beta -site just redirects to normal nokia site after registering. What is going on? I feel like I was too optimistic on getting my Nokia 8 from android 7.1 to 8.1.
I don't know other solutions. Clearly this is a hopeless situation so I need help. Maybe Nokia has a secret site for TA-1004 android oreo 8.1 update I can access somehow. Or maybe I should just return this and get another android 8.1 phone.
This has already cost me over a workdays worth of fiddling, and a weekend with no access to internet or sms. I blame myself, though, android or nokia didn't promise I could update...

Problem solved!
While doing other stuff I noticed there was a download happening. I also noticed several times there was system update attempt, and a red text that noted that system update only possible over wifi.
However, after a while, the update was downloaded. Phone restarted. (I suppose the bg download was because I had selected to use mobile data at "getting started")
I now have oreo 8.1, with no action on my part, other than leaving the phone on. Yay! :good:

Just had the Camera Pro 4.88 update OTA on my Nokia 8 TA-1012 tookb30 mins to download.

Is this official?
Sweet, I just got the update on my HD7 from Bell. How could HTC have been so wishy-washy on this, they've clearly planned it...

Was pleased to get the update today... 3 updates in total...
Lovin the new homescreen... :good:
Also, the new colours are great... Even the old colours look better (red/orange)... They really have body, like an amoled without an amoled...
No "Trick", no Tool...
Just go to Zune and ... hey there's an UPDATE.
Love new Homescreen.
And my Lumia 710 just wait for it.
Does this mean the HD7s will get it too?
The relation between this 2 models confuses me and I couldn't find a hd7s specific forum
(Maybe I'm a n00b... Like the ones mentioned in the video haha)
The trick method with zune (pulling out the cable) didn't work for me for the last two days, but I had to do a hard reset on the phone and changed the system locale to English (Canada), and that seemed to get the update done - I had seen a bunch of Canadians getting the update, so I tried this and it worked!
US T-Mobile HD7 upgrade to 7.8
Has anyone gotten upgrade to 7.8 on their phone?
I tried the disconnect method, but no joy.
Use Seven-Eighter, it worked for me.
Don't forget to select all languages you have installed to update.
Spanish HD7 updated to 7.8!
Hi, I just wanna share my experience with you:
NOTE 1: First of all, try a normal update on Zune without doing any special trick, Many people is updating the device without any special action!
NOTE 2: There are some data consumption related bugs. Check them here.
This has been my experience:
There are 3 updates to install, as previously mentioned: 7.10.8779.8 --> 7.10.8783.12 --> 7.10.8858.136
These are the steps to follow on each update, taken from several posts over the net as this:
1) Disconnect WiFi and other data connections on the device.
2) Connect device to Zune
3) Go to settings->phone->update
4) While searching for updates for the device count to 5 and disconnect internet on your computer (WiFi, ethernet, whatever...).
5) Wait about 30 seconds for the Zune response.
6) If "no updates available" or "error searching" or similar response is shown, go to another option in the left menu and then repeat the process from step 3. If "update found", go to Step 7.
7) Reconnect Internet access (ethernet, WiFi...) on your computer (not the phone).
8) Follow instructions to install the update
Some notes:
- I have spent more than 15 tries to make Zune show the update. It depends on Internet/computer response when searching to Microsoft update servers. If 5 seconds don't work for you, try changing the wait time. In my case, started with 1 second, then 2, then 3... 5 resulted to be the perfect one. The second and third update only used 3 search attemps. Using wireshark may help, look at instructions explained by user "medeis" on a comment in this page: here.
- 1st update is very slow, the second and the third is much faster (no backup required as in first).
- Repeat this procedure for every update (3 in total).
It worked for me on my unbranded HTC HD7 from Spain. It runs very smoothly, but nothing special apart from the new tiles (ok, great), accent colors (unnecessary, don't know why I can't choose one from a color picker...) and lock screen (my child is more beautiful thant any bing image...)
Cheers,
xdomingo
i think , removing simcard ! is only thing we need. works for me in first hours 7.8 coming ...

I'm still wondering about this. I haven't heard anything about updates for the HD7S at all and I've been searching for two days.
Then again, I'm a n00b too. *sigh*

Zune offered me the 7.10.8860.142
no tricks, no magic or "quantum healing" pseudoscience (for you new age ignorants)
from now on, xda-developers.com can LOL at this assholes:

Question for anyone who streams music over bluetooth; how is the sound quality? In previous versions, audio bitrates were purposely crippled in the registry and it sounded awful. Did they fix that? Zune has started to badger me about this update as well, and I'm tempted to update. I'm running a modded firmware just to get around the bluetooth issue and don't want to update if it's just going to get me crappy sound quality again...

I just got handed an ex-staff member's VIE-L09... what next?

I haven't used a Huawei phone since news that Nokia was about to dominate the market with Microsoft Lumina (LOL).
I have 1 week to have the phone ready for someone else to take it back out in the field.
Pin Locked
NFI Firmware
NFI OS

1/ So i'm thinking the first thing is to reformat the P9-Plus to get around the fact that his manager didn't seem to get the screen-PIN on his last day.
- Anyone willing to throw pointers here? Most phones I just hold power+volume on boot - but this one goes to an EMUI menu which asks to "download and update" or "restart"... it always "fails to connect" with no option to reformat.
2/ Which OS is recommended? I had the epic Sony Playstation phone, but was silly enough to update to Android 4... little did I know this NERFed half the features and made it slow. I had to backdate it.
- Do I just update to the latest OTA that is offered and leave-it-be? Our Microsoft Office will be sandboxed, so general OS security is less of a concern - performance matters most, with general features to keep the sales-rep happy coming in second-place.
3/ Do any of you know in advance if this is going to be sim-locked? I can see ads for questionable sim-unlock software which suggests it will be.
Quick update:
Trying to mash various button combinations on boot - one of the times it said "updating" with an orbiting dot...
The phone rebooted once or twice and then I was back at the lock screen.
I also double-checked the error message in EMUI: "Getting package info failed. connected to WiFi: [my wifi]... <Change> ... <Cancel>"
change just lets me change the Wifi hotspot (none work), and cancel just goes back to the main menu:
""Download latest version and recovery""
"Reboot"
"Shutdown"
One of the times I ended up in "FASTBOOT&RESCUE MODE"
Please connect Usb Cable and Open Hisuite
Phone = Locked
FRP = Lock

So I guess that will be my next stop is putting some bloatware on my PC to see if I can wipe it from there

Galaxy Note 5 SM-N920V -hanging on updating - Need help

Hi guys:
I am hoping someone can help. I am an average phone user and I tried to update my Note 5 to the latest Android OS that's available for it using the Verizon Wireless software upgrade assistant. I did this because it would not upgrade over Wifi.
As it was updating over USB, it disconnected and re-connected by itself ( I heard the usb-connect and reconnect sound) and then it gave me a message that said "The device is in need of repair, go to repair assistant" . So I am running that now for the past 2 hours. I am not sure if its stuck or just taking a lonnnnngggg time. On the phone display it says "Downloading, do not turn off target" . As A long time IT guy, I have my doubts that this will ever complete. What are my options if it does not ? My phone is mint, no issues other than this.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Issue updating to 8.1(v2.13B)

Hi just got the 7 plus.
I connected the phone using WiFi hotspot of my main phone.
When I try to update it during setup, it looks like it's going to start then it says waiting for Wi-Fi. I skipped that part then went on to set up my email using said wifi, which worked.
I then came back to update the phone and it keeps giving me the same message.
I switched the SIM card and downloaded some apps because it won't even download any app, and downloading the update won't work that way as it requires WiFi.
Browsing works though as does YouTube and the Reddit app am using while on the hotspot.
Is there anything I can do to get the update on my phone?
Phone was bought from UK though I'm in Nigeria now. Don't know if that matters.
Unchecked the metered connection on the Nokia so now it downloads apps but still not the update. Keeps giving me the same message. The model of my phone is TA-1055
Is there anyway I could get the update?
Thanks in advance.

In Canada - Bought AT&T model online - Unable to update

Hello everyone,
Just go a LG-W280A online (Nougat, 7.1.1, NQF43E) and trying to get it to update to Oreo, but no luck so far.
The watch does download the update, but when it comes to install it, it fails verification it seems. I've been through the process at least 5 times already, with a factory reset of the watch in the middle.
Anybody else in Canada have this problem? Is Oreo worth it? If it breaks Google Pay, no, and it's the main reason I bought the watch.
Any help or tips would be appreciated.
Well, it seems patience is the key. I left my phone and my watch charging one beside the other for a few hours. I went to check if an update was available, and was greeted with the "Reboot to install?" prompt.
It took 4-5 times.
I'd say if you come across the same problem, just keep at it. It will work.

I'm from italy...same problem...4 time i download the update (780 MB transferred from bluetooth to watch everey time...oh my god! ), every time the update doesn't pass the verification.
i try this night with a vpn centered in USA.
Hello again,
@stefal639 I assume that it will do the same as mine. Just keep at it, the update will work eventually.
I can confirm that Google Pay in Canada still works after the Oreo update (Wear OS 1.2, 8.0.0, OWDL.180126.012).
I solve shutting off the Bluetooth and I use the direct download from server to watch by wifi.
All ok
