I had a weird problem last week whereby my screen froze. Carried out hard and soft reset and then a factory reset (2*soft keys and reset button).
Once factory reset, I had the problem when your device boots up and you need to tap the screen to set the device up and the screen would not respond to any taps.
A couple of days later (I had reverted back to my old Wizard), the phone came to life but acted strangely. Sometimes it was if the screen had been pressed 100’s of time in different places, and it scrolled through all the apps on the screen until I pressed the Sleep button.
Now it seems to work OK, but will randomly lock up. Also there is a faint line about 2 or 3 pixels wide all the way along the left hand side of the screen. So its looks as though the screen / digitiser is buggered.
Also the USB socket seems to be a bit cracked and does not look straight.
I was using Schap 2.3 and am worried if I hand it in to tmob to fix will they refuse due to the non-standard rom. I have read through the sticky above, but there only seems to be ROMs for the HTC and AT&T models.
Is it worth risking handing it in as is, or do I really need to revert back to the original set-up,a nyone in the UK had there Kasier fixed with a non-standard ROM?
Thanks
check link in my signature - i made some legal steps against t-**** UK, so dont worry, just go to the shop and ask them to carry out warranty repair, if it will be declined(it'll take about a month I guess) follow my steps. If U'll need any explanations....help just contact me thru PM, ICQ... I' be glad 2 hlp U and **** them again
i would also like a t-mobile rom to flash back if i ever need to send it back
there's a dumped original t-mobile rom available here so you can always flash it and then return the phone.

LMFAO - So True tho
I live in Australia, and have a Telstra branded Diamond, although it is unlocked ( i use Optus Sim card) anyways i was hoping to install unbranded cooked rom found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=422417
I didn't know I needed to install HardSPL, i tried but it failed so i continued on (i know I'm retarded) so i tried using the Diamond Unlocker.
I hit Next, Next, Next until it got to progress bar it stayed on 0% then jumped to 100% and said that my device wasn't compatible or something like that, at that point the image on the diamond faded to black screen. I This happened when i tried Hardspl but i just hit reset and it turned back on alright.....this time it didn't, it doesn't react to the power button at all, iv tried hitting the reset button, booting into boot loader even though I'm pretty sure it doesn't have one, and tried MTTY which I'm pretty sure it pointless because my diamond doesn't turn on.
Please share any knowledge or ideas you have on how i can fix my Diamond, or where i can send it to be repaired (I have no warranty with Telstra by the way)
Is my diamond bricked for life?
EDIT: In the hope that my Diamond will return to life by holding the power button, i have noticed i can still feel the vibration it usually makes when turning it on although NO DISPLAY

Thats the only problem, i have already thought of this, although i don't have proof of purchase anymore, can i still get it repaired without proof of purchase?
ANY Replies or ideas are appreciated, please HELP
I would contact them without a receipt you may have to pay for the repair
but I don't see why they should not make money of you repairing your broken device
Thanks for the reply, my question is, i bought this phone off a friend and knowing him he got it from someone else who probably has stolen it, so if i take it in for repairs and it is stolen I'm screwed....right?.....are they able to I.D a stolen device?
Thats what you get when you buy a stolen device. You'll pay it back one way another.
I guess but for $250 who wouldnt take it. I guess i should have read ALOT more instead of rushing a flash. So last question, does anyone know if its physically possible to fix the phone, if it be replacing a bit or get a technician to hardwire or something......is it possible? or am i stuck with a nice new paperweight?

I think its a case of what goes around, comes around.
Hey
I have a similar problem. But mine is bought and original and I have a receipt. Anyways, there's no way around the sending, is there? Because, I think, it'll take a lot of time and regarding the fact, that the mistake is on my side, the warranty is void, isn't it?
Hey
I am currently running 2.1 on my Samsung Galaxy S the only thing ive done to it is root it, so its running the normal firmware and I'm waiting till the end of september ti get the official 2.2 before I look at flashing something custom onto it, anyway...
I have an odd problem with the phone where the touchscreen part of the phone will become unresponsive for no real reason, sometimes playing a game, sometimes just sending a text or browsing the market. My actuall hard buttons like the homescreen or volume control still work during this and the only way to make my phone un-freeze is to press my power button once to turn the screen blank, then press it again and slide to unlock the phone, then it works fine.
No clue how to fix this... anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance..
Sounds like hardware issue. Get it fixed
Thanks for the response (know it was a while ago)
I've had the phone 2 months now in a contract with T-Mobile UK through Carphone Warehouse... Does anyone know what my return rights are? Talking to them later just want to know where I stand when asking for a replacement.
Thanks

hello, i have same issue. Did you fix this problem?
Thanks
This comes really long after. But did anyone find out the reason for this?
I've got an Galaxy S that works fine most of the time. But from time to time the screen will become unresponsive. If I press power button to lock the screen and unlock it again, it goes away. So it seems that it is a software problem.
Another peculiarity is that the keys on the Samsung keyboard are very inaccurate to respond to touch from time to time. Sometimes it is just impossible to hit a letter in the mid row and pressing "s" can put "wz" on the screen.
I was thinking to just put CM on it anyway. But it will void the guarantee in case it is a hardware problem. So I want to make sure that it is software related.
Did anyone manage to fix this either by returning the phone or removing TouchWiz. I am not living in the same country as I bought the phone. So returning it for a checkup will take some effort.
For what ever it is worth
I took the phone to an unofficial service center that flashed the phone with a brand new Android 2.3.3 (the phone came with 2.3.5). A downgrade, which normally isn't a very good deal. But the dead areas on the screen are gone. The phone is much more responsive and the keyboard is not acting funny anymore.
So... if you are experiencing the same. Try getting rid of the TouchWiz before you start taking the phone apart.
Good luck!
I get it occasionally but I've grown to live with it, mine tends to be the kernel recently flashed devils for 4.0.3 but after fiddling with volts mine stops.

K have a AT&T Note 3 MJ5 baseband version. Well one day while sending out a text, the menu kept popping up. I closed the message app out and still the menu for the home screen continued to pop up. I checked the accessibility setting and everything looked fine. But every app i open the menu or the haptic feedback continues checked or not checked. So i rooted and installed safstrap and install several different roms but still the same thing. Its really bad when the keyboard is pulled up to send a text or write an email and also when its on the charger fully charged the device works great, but once its unplugged and a little bit of the battery is use this thing goes nuts. Stuff just popping on its own. Anyway thanks in advance for any input. Thanks million.
It sounds like your capacitive menu button is constantly being pressed. Has the screen been replaced by any chance? I'd revert it back to stock and have it exchanged for a new one.
Thanks 440bro for replying, to answer question is no, as far as i can tell it has never been wet nor dropped to the effect that it would cause all this wacky stuff. Most of the time when i have the keyboard up for texting n emailing, the menu pops up n down or ill have to hit the return key. But as long as i have it plugged in charging or the battery is 100% it is useful. I'll make a short video and post it some time today i hope, Thanks 440 for the input

I asked if your screen was replaced because the menu button is a very thin ribbon cable attached to the screen. Someone who's not careful could cut, or damage this part when replacing the glass. If it was pinched it could act like it's constantly being pushed. Maybe your phone was assembled on a monday morning by someone who was hung over and damaged it lol!
Even if you aren't the original owner I would walk up to an att store and ask for a replacement since it's still a new device.

Do you have a protector that over laps the top edge of the display? It is possible the lip on the protector is actually extending into the contact area of that button and causing it to think it is being pressed. If you have a protector or bumper of some sort, remove it and see if you still have the problem.

Revert it back to stock. Make sure there's no custom padlock symbol. You'll be able to swap it at an at&t dsc center no problem!
Sounds good thanks for the help 440

Glad to hear they swapped you. Thanks for reporting back!
I swapped a Note 2 that I'd upgraded from. For some reason it kept getting the black screen of death (basically locking up). I reverted it back to stock and removed root. Had NO issues even though it was upgraded to 4.3 before I rooted it. No Knox trip or Custom status.
And thats a weird and to spell wierd?
After working in a sprint repair center for many years I saw this issue with the Galaxy S2 line constantly. An lcd replacement fixed it up.
Hello, I'm a junior member here, I learned a lot from XDA as I read many threads but only have posted a bit.
My Note5 has been showing touchscreen malfunctions for a while, nowadays I'm using the S-pen. The first time I realized I tried to wipe the cache, and it didn't work. I booted into safe mode but it didn't fix it. I realized it was a hardware related thing. Then I tried to remove the screen protector, it did work, but not much later it happened again. I cleaned my screen and it worked (and start malfunctioning again minutes later).
I concluded that the oil from my finger was the problem, but unlike any other phones I've had, the touch begins to malfunction just because of a very tiny amount of grease build up.
(for example, if there's a small build up on the 'A' key on the keyboard, whenever I touch other areas, the 'A' key will also recieve touch input.)
I think tuning the touch sensitivity will help. So I asked for help here.
Was my conclusion wrong or is there any solution that requires no rooting?

Nice, it works! But may I know why did it happen? Perhaps I can prevent it in the future. What happened?
(Update) The screen malfunctioned again. I tried to update the touchscreen firmware again and nothing happened. I was thinking wether flashing a custom kernel and ROM would fix this or not, should I?
Replace the phone, could be the screen or the motherboard. Don't bother fixing it.

The weird part is it does work perfectly sometimes but most other time, it doesn't. I'm going to do a factory reset tonight to see if it works or not, or to decide wether I should flash a new ROM or not.
In my place here, a nearby retail store is willing to buy my Note5 for around $130, pretty sad to know. I love the S-pen but can't afford the Note 9 nor the Note 8. Should I buy a Samsung tablet with an S-pen instead?(it's currently on 25% discount).
Update: Is it a coincidence if the touch is problematic during heavy task (e.g. multitasking, running demanding apps, or playing games) and working fine during standby or light tasks?
