Really just thoughts and opinions here as there's no yes or no answer to this yet, it's not out thus no AOSP! But what do y'all think? IF it's possible, you think the shamu will see some new development? I know the Nexus 4 mako is on Oreo 8.1 right now! Gives me some optimism.
If developers are still showing Shamu some love, then I wouldn't be surprised if P shows up for us. we benefit from developers keeping their own phones alive.

I am not aware of any developer for shamu who is still using his shamu as daily driver.
I did the oreo bringup for shamu just because I can.
I get the impression that Oreo was harder than most other Android upgrades. I'm not really taking about the N6 here, as of course Google did the work for the previous versions - but about unsupported phones in general.
Maybe Oreo changed a lot as part of project Treble? We can hope that P gets easier if it only evolves Treble a bit.
I got my fingers crossed on this one, I'm really hoping project treble truly does make porting Android easier! The shamu was such a great device for it's time, and in my opinion at least, it's holding up fine! It'd be nice to have continued support on this device!
As an example I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 which is running N and doing it reasonably usably. There is someone working on O for it with LineageOS and they may get there. If there are lots of a model out there, someone somewhere will try and get it working for those of us who can't do it ourselves.
The Nexus 6 is a lot younger than the Galaxy S2. I have one as my daily and I think I have good odds of continuing to use it for a while yet.

Twiki always called him "Buck", his nickname. The character's given name in both TV and the source material was William, but it was never used except in the second season of the TV series, when Buck was on trial for treason.
As to Buck Rogers itself, the TV show is a so-so adaptation of the original sources, Armageddon 2419 and its sequel War Against the Han. Honestly it would have been more successful had the premise not changed in season 2.
Of course, Buck never uttered the quote in ktmom's signature. Will Rogers was a real person, while William "Buck" Rogers is but a character.

I remember when we finally got pinch to zoom, they said it had been ready for awhile, you just never know with those crazy folks at android!!!
Well, Google said a "few weeks" following I/O, no?
I usually interpret a "few" as in 3-5ish, but Google might not think the same.

Speculation is rife that Adobe screwed things up with 10.1 update and since Andy 2.2 touted Flash as a super feature, they have to sort it out before it is truly edible.
Hang tight and don't root your device just for Froyo since warranty claim can be a pain if you do so (refurb Nexus Ones are awful and not worth the hours you have to spend for a probable fix. I am awaiting the 3rd continuous swap, its been hell so far with HTC's policies. Let me know if you want to read about the whole experience, I wrote a lengthy writeup!).
Unfortunately, iOS 4 will hit the scene before Andy 2.2. Too much for Google's nip-slip!

The reasoning behind keeping the Honeycomb source closed right now is pretty sound, imo. They know that the Android community will hack it until it will run on phones. It was not developed for phones. So, what they are doing is cleaning up the HC code so that when it hits AOSP it won't be a pile of hacks and will work well on phones as well as tablets. None of the devices HC is coming out on from corporate partners are putting HC on devices smaller than 7 inches. Google will post it when it's ready for AOSP and the Android community.

It should not be up to Google what the android community does with HC. Who cares if they put it on a phone and it doesn't work? Then....uh....people won't put HC on their phones.

I really don't think that's it at all.
I mean, have you used a Xoom? That isn't exactly what I'd call a flawless operating system.
Also, this sense of entitlement people are displaying - as if Google owes them the Honeycomb source because a single tablet has been released running it - has been really hard for me to wrap my head around.
Regardless, all of this probably belongs in the HCGenDis thread, so I won't be surprised if this is closed/deleted.

It's not up to the android community what Google does with HC. We don't own Google. Google doesn't owe us anything. As much as I'd like to have HC source code now, we just have to wait. This me, me, me, now, now now entitlement mentality doesn't help.

Most interpretations of "free software" (open source's older, wiser, quarreling brother) would say that the handset makers and/or Google do owe Xoom owners the source code.
Which is why, I guess, they use "open source" licenses that don't technically require they do that.
It still grates against the "spirit" of the licenses to some of us.
I was VERY pissed about the lack of AOSP Honeycomb, then I tried a Xoom.
SD cards don't work, it is VERY laggy (even with a dual core overclocked), and many apps force close.
I have come to the conclusion that the REAL reason Google held back Honeycomb is because if people looked under the hood they would find maybe the worst hack-job of an OS in modern times. This would blemish the Android tablet market before it really starts, piss off Xoom owners that paid a premium to be beta testers, and give the Apple Zealots in the world a new drum to beat.
So to avoid that, Honeycomb is closed until its a real OS. I just wish Google was more upfront about their reasons.
Internet petitions, doing exactly nothing since 1989.
You want Googles attention attach a couple million bucks to each signature and they might care.

Right, and I already said they weren't required to provide source code because of the licenses (Apache and GPL2) they chose. Is this a joke or something?

These threads are tiring.
In that VoLTE is natively supported in 5.1, did you not consider that may be why there was a hold up, because Verizon wanted that?
I'll bet you 1,000.00 dollars we get Lollipop. Are you game? Post your paypal if so. I could use the money from an easily won bet
Edit: And yeah, that India comment was misplaced.
Yeah looks like its confirmed that the 5.1 HD Voice does mean it works with Verzion VoLTE (I wasn't sure based on the screenshot they had). Seems very possible when Motorola learned about this they held off on their 5.01 or whatever with HD Voice added in to just release the version with the code in it already. Which is a good thing. Because had they released 5.0.1 or whatever a couple of weeks ago, you would have people whining for 5.1. Hopefully this means it will hit the Turbo in a short time.
I made a post about the Nexus 6 coming to Verizon with 5.1 already on it and suggested that the DT might be jumping straight to 5.1 around the time the Nexus 6 drops on Verizon. My hit or miss post doesn't seem so irrelevant now. lol

Agreed. The phone is still fairly new and considered a current flagship phone for Motorola (Next to the Nexus 6 but that's Google's baby as well so I don't think it can count as Motorola's flagship entirely). Getting back to my point, saying that a flagship phone is not going to get an update to "the latest and greatest in android" is just asking for someone to talk badly about you and even more so a cry for attention. Which is something we don't need.
What I mean by India is a third world country of all places before here where it launched. I hope I am wrong but like my tablet I went into Verizon was was talked to by a salesman to go with this newest device it's a flagship device so I did and the updates are where? I left the Galaxy line with no issues great reception speedy updates... My tablet was the same thing a verizon exclusive updated once and forgotten.
What I'm saying is why update stuff that's old when after two years most people upgrade? My flagship store, I'm there daily to make sure it's running good, clean and people want to come back the old store has a customer base like the old phones they update them when it's time to update them things.

Don't worry about it. It's just kinda tense here sometimes, and we're all kinda surly and curmudgeonly because we seem to be kept in the dark regarding just about everything related to this device. Everyone has or had certain expectations from it and the support that we were expecting by Motorola and/or Verizon, and it's nowhere near as exciting as we'd hoped.

And google now also is flashing stories for android M in my feed for the last 4 days.
Android M may be announced at Google I/O end of this month but you won't see it pushed to AOSP until November/December most likely....so you won't see any developer other than Google with any kind of "M" development for a while.
Google's developers have started work
What's the M stand for? Mint!

Not really. Its just my guess. I don't eat marshmallows. At least, not the non vegetarian ones. I'm not vegetarian, but I eat meat for survival. Marshmallows are a sweet and as far as I feel, should've contain animal products.

either way, its really rare for me to eat anything sweet, i found out six years ago that i have diabetes. it came out of the blue, considering that no one in my family has it. well, i found out late last year that my grandfather has it, by hearing that hes getting a leg removed. he never told anybody about his diabetes.

Jeez. Sorry to hear that.
Drop in, introduce yourself, post pictures, ask dumb questions, talk, tease, chill out.
In memory of the beloved RC, @simms22 .
We've needed a thread like this ever since everyone wanted to constantly complain and nitpick (iPhone this, jelly that, etc). Cool.
Yep.
Stressed out and back home after a day's work. Was looking for a thread like this and found none. Nexus forums have a lot of these. At least when I used to own Nexus.
So thought I'd go ahead and create one cos I know we've got a lot of users.
All the negativity around here made me second guess my purchase a little and didn't have a single problem with my phone ?
Great thread!
What roms are you guys using

Staying stock for now. No need to root for me at the moment.
I'll probably jump on lineage for a bit when Android O is released.
Isn't android O released already?

Stock for the foreseeable future. When I finally get to the point where I unlock, I'll probably be on an OOS based ROM. OOS is just so good. Plus it'll probably take awhile for aftermarket ROMs to get the dual camera working 100%.

Should be getting my device today and I am excited. First OnePlus deviice. Hopefully no issues for me, fingers crossed. Used to be a heavy Android user, lately iPhone user. Making the decision to become a programmer has me interested in Android again and to learn java programming language. I will probably skin some things for this phone and maybe otthers if I pick up more Android phones, hell maybe build some roms in the near future.
bad night at work, mainly fixing others peoples f--- ups and sovling issues. I don't go back to work till Monday....... so fishing, gaming, messing with this phone (if no issues are found), birthday party, chilling with my daughters, school work, and swimming. Might be off work, but probably not much rest lol. :highfive:

Nice. I think you'll love the device.
Tip: Just don't bother with the negativity in the forum, the YouTube videos and news articles. Needless to say, I've seen people *****ing about the device every which way. This phone has been great for me, I've seen zero issues so far. I got it during the preorder sale.
This is my first oneplus device too. Oneplus has come a long distance from being "just another cheap Chinese phone", when I was skeptical about it, to creating a name in the smartphone industry.
I have been a Nexus fanatic since the nexus 4 but I don't think they are worth the price tag anymore.
I kinda started out like you, interested in Android, started off learning Java, building roms for the Nexus 4 ( I was on a team that built roms called Euphoria OS, now defunct). Then, as everyone lost interest, I shifted to making money out of coding skills. Built a couple of Android apps. Now I also do Python and JavaScript mainly. Its been a fun ride, never regretted my decision.
