Hi there,
my XZ2 (H8266, latest patch level) regularly gets stuck / stalls: After interacting with the phone, the processes suddenly become much slower, the UI almost gets unresponsive, and it seems like the pone takes ages to execute processes. Only a restart helps. I couldn't figure out what triggers this behaviour or if it is caused by an application running in the background.
Any hints how to fix that or how to debug it?
Might be a good reason to try out that safe mode.

Hi, could you elaborate a bit? What would be the point of trying the safe mode? Using the phone in safe mode and see if similar behavior happens again? If yes, what is the conclusion?
If this behavior does not occur in safe mode, it is proof that some application, you installed, is to blame.
If this behavior occurs in safe mode, then either some system application, or system itself is to blame.
After this, you will know what to do.
In first case, only way is to go through your installed applications one by one and try uninstalling them. This way, you will identify the app that is causing it.
In second case, I would recommend trying to repair firmware using Xperia Companion.

I didn't have this issue on Oreo, but it was indeed a problem on DP3/Beta 2, but seems solved on DP4/Beta 3.
Update & it should be fine.
Dear all,
I was using Sony Companion to basically do a factory reset (they call it hardware fix) and now it seems solved.

Just bought my first Nexus phone yesterday used of Amazon. Worked fine for the first hour then was prompted to update to 5.0.1. After the update the phone display will turn off randomly for a second every 5-10seconds (display turns off (not dims not locks). Dose not happen in bootloader and still happens even after flash installing 6.0.1 and Android N. The issue only happens for the first 20-30min after boot. It almost seems like an application that only runs the first 30min after boot is crashing the phones gpu. Anyone had this issue or have any insight?
Play store: Advanced Task Manager.
With this app you can kill apps.
You can select which apps.
Maybe you can find the cause

Tried this and it didn't stop it. Even tried booting in safe mode. The issue happens even before Android loads up (during the splash animation).

I agree with the previous poster (Mike... ).
If you can't find a software cause, it may possible a hardware issue.
Some hardware problems are temperature related. Shutdown and cool down the phone.
A few minutes in the freezer. Than restart the phone.
I ran into an issue where the camera, out of nowhere (meaning there were no updates or anything new was installed), started crashing.
I've had this before, but a reboot usually fixes it. This time, it did not. I then tried the next obvious choice, force-stop and clear data (including cache). Did it solve it? Nope.
But! What eventually worked for me was:
Clearing data (with cache) and then immediately rebooting. I also enabled location permissions manually, but I am not sure if that made any difference.
I could not find any topics regarding this issue related to XZ1 Compact, so I decided to just write it down in case anyone else has this issue. It's weird though: I've had these camera crashes regularly, where the camera just stops working after a few weeks (or even months!) of on-time, without any phone reboots. Yet, I couldn't find any directly related topics on this.

Have you registered your phone with Sony?
Try the software repair function of Xperia companion.
If that fails call Sony and arrange to send it to a repair center.
Not heard of this before, so I'd say you should send it back.
Hmmm. The issue doesn't occur often enough for me to go out of my way to either re-install the OS or have the phone be checked out. But if the issue does persist with decreasing intervals, I will definitely re-flash the ROM and/or have the phone replaced. Thanks!
Now that I think about it though, when I first got the phone, I uninstalled a lot of seemingly meaningless system applications. But that doesn't really explain why the camera crashes with random, very long, intervals.
Hello there
This is regarding a P20 Pro (running Pie EMUI)
Getting some error as following : suddenly, the camera won't start at all / black screen
(attached a screenshot that usually displays when attempting to start the camera)
Usually goes away after a restart, but not all the time
Is this a hardware malfunction or?
Any suggestions appreciated
Thanks a lot
Could be either hardware or software, first step, find camera app in settings and clear data.
If no result,, backup and reset phone, if this fails to cure it, then its likely hardware so contact carrier or huamwei

Hi I have the same problem. It works after restarting the phone but it is just temporary fix. I tried cleaning cache and data, factory reset no change. Interestingly the issue is reported on other forums. I don't know is it software or hardware problem
This thing started with that ****ty Pie update. if you can rollback do it, i sadly cannot since my region dont support it, hope this **** got fixed next patch.
Running latest stock firmware and at least once a day my phone reboots automatically. Auto restart is turned off. I have it on the table and next thing it just reboots. One time this week it turned off completely. Has anyone else experienced this and or know of a solution? Thanks
I cannot confirm anything you describe. It's either caused by a bad or disabled application or possibly faulty hardware. Test your phone at Safe Mode to see if the restarts stop. If so, you need to find out which app is causing it.

Can confirm. It happens to me as well. Not everyday. It is completely random. Happened twice today. After I charged it. Don't know if charging it is connected somehow to the issue. Every android phone I buy just has some odd quirks. No more. After this one I'm done. You barely see any problems like this with an iPhone.

You using a SD card? If so try pulling it.
If you did any firmware update flashes since getting it, factory reset.
At least clear the system cache...
A hard reset may also get it.

Thanks to all for the replies. Something i have noticed (and i hope i don't jinx myself now) is that since i turned off the "auto optimise daily" feature, i haven't had a single reboot or power off.

Yeah leave that junk turned off... power management is known to cause erratic behavior as well.
How it's going with the random reboots? Do you still have a problem or turning off "auto optimise daily" fixed it?

This is not normal behavior.
If it's under warranty now might be the time... at least get the documentation started.
Have you cleared the system cache?
Try in Safe Mode as pointed it maybe a 3rd party apk; power management apps and 3rd party launchers are prime candidates. Anything that runs in the background when the screen is off.
Factory reset time...
If that doesn't get try replacing the sim card and removing the SD card if any.
If you still can't find it try reflashing the firmware.
It maybe a hardware failure... and intermittent ones can be the hardest to track down.

I think it actually turned out to be Nova launcher causing the problem. I uninstalled it and turned back on auto optimise on Saturday and i haven't had a reboot since.

Nova launcher premium or free and what version?
I'm using Nova Prime, I haven't noticed any reboots but there has been occasions where the fingerprint scanner was switched back to code unlock like it had just booted up. I'll check up time if it happens again.
Latest free from Play store. 6.2.18.
I might try amd reinstall it later to see if the issue reoccurs, but there has been no reboots since i uninstalled it thankfully.

This is normal security behaviour in Android and it happens every few days. It has nothing common with used launcher.

Might want to quit while you're ahead. A buggy 3rd party launcher is a sure fire way to crash and burn a Android OS. Boot looped twice by one on my stock Note 10+.
Take any noticable instability seriously...

No doubt you're absolutely right about that, but on the other hand, with the Nova launcher, it's not normal behavior. Nova is rock solid, I've used it for years on various devices, and there's never been a problem.

While I found that it's not better than the native One UI launcher, Nova Launcher didn't boot loop my 10+ into oblivion... lol, a definite plus.
What I found was it was slower and that I lost some features I liked with One UI. It used a lot more battery but some of that was due to tweaking it, but even when I wasn't adjusting it's settings it's battery usage was high. One UI unlike some of Sammy's past launchers is a fast and very stable launcher... hard to beat.
Samsung's are very customizable in their stock configuration, other makes not near as much so.
So yeah I get why you might want use a 3rd party launcher and Nova is at the top of the candidates. Not being at the mercy of every new flavor of OS and native launcher is also more harmonious and productive... so yeah, I get it.
I don't use Nova launcher and I have random reboots. What I' ve noticed is that the reboots were happening when I wasn't using the phone for a while. Also when the phone turned back on an application was active in notification curtain. In the beginning it was TuneIn although I had it force stopped from settings everytime I was using it. After I uninstalled it I didn't had any incident for quite a while. Two days ago I had a lot of reboots in a day. The app working after the reboots was always Samsung Accessory Service, I have Galaxy Watch 3 also. My guess is that the UI is trying to kill an app and it crashes. When I find some time I 'll try a factory reset with fresh install cause my current set up is based on settings from my previous phone (LH V30).
I have a Nokia 7 Plus, running Pie, unrooted. Generally a great phone, had the charging port fixed by Nokia a few years ago.
But every now and then the screen locks up, I can usually get control back by locking the screen and waiting a moment and unlocking.
I've factory wiped my phone a few times, I've removed of my apps but today it's been terrible and seeks to be locking up more than ever.
I put it into safe mode and used chrome, with Bluetooth and wifi and had no issues at all.
Any ideas how I can diagnose and fix the issue?

Any suggestions how to potentially fix this?
Maybe worth to try the following:
1) clear system UI cache
2) Android system force stop
3) reboot
and /or
1) activate developer settings
2) under -> debugging -> Game-Driver Settings activate "prerelease-driver* for all Apps. It will survive re-starts
3) enter recovery mode and perform the graphics test
4) reboot
This is working for me since 29 May 2021. To be confirmed....

Thanks @chrhei
Unfortunately the issue still persists with the first option.
I'll try the 2nd one - what does the Game Driver setting do?

To be honest: I've no idea what it does, but it's still working for me.
Sorry to all
After 5 days of usage it happened again.
Conclusion: No fix.
Sorry for being to optimistic.
