Hey guys,
For some reason my Gear dies in half a day and I can't work out why. I'm using Skin's modded Tizen ROM but have been doing so for months and this has just started to happen.
- I have no apps installed;
- I don't have auto on when I raise my wrist, although I've tried it with this on and makes no difference;
- I've reset the phone to factory settings. It was actually fine during the day. Put it in my drawer over night, woke up 7 hours later and it had gone from 75% to dead!
- Reset it AGAIN and it's still muffed!;
- Uninstalled the Gear s/w and reinstalled to no avail.
I may be barking up the wrong tree here, but it seemed to coincide with the orange coloured version of the Gear manager. Does anyone have the apk for the previous version where it was all white with a colourful top border please? Or failing that, have any idea what the hell my watch thinks it's up to?
Thanks!
EDIT
Solution
1. Deleted the Gear software (and checked for any remainders in the file manager...although personally I found none);
2. Hard reset the watch, just in case;
3. Installed Gear Manager 2.1.14071502 (courtesy of Brendo);
4. Paired and got it all working well. This alone sorted the battery life which was nice.
5. I let the software update automatically; (obviously bypassing the dodgy version)!
6. Boom! It works fine with the latest app!

Yep I've also reset the watch on two occasions. Still dying within 9 hours Cheers for the apk's though, I'll see if that makes any difference. Otherwise I may have to ditch Skin's ROM and try the official - see if that helps.
I am getting almost the same thing over the last few days. My Gear Manager updated to a newer version and I have had the issue ever since. Idk what about updating that on my phone would have to do with the Gears battery life but I have changed a few settings on my notifications to see if that is going to help. I also keep getting "saproviders has stopped" CONSTANTLY. Was popping up every 3 seconds and I could not do anything with my phone. Finally got into Titanium and froze that app and I have had no more issues with that on my phone but I don't think that is cause my Gear to have poor battery life would it? I may have to go back to a older version of Gear Manager.
Similar thing for me with saproviders although it was happening because I had disabled Unified Daemon (EUR) process. Reenabled it and that went....although sometimes the UD(EUR) drains my phone battery and is really only used for weather updates.
As for the draining issue, I'm having a go with Gear Manager 2.1.14071502 and seeing if it makes any difference. So far it is, but I will report my findings back in 24hrs!

That is exactly the version I downloaded also. Gonna have to figure out how to get it to stop wanting to auto update to the newer versions. Just gonna set my settings and not go back to gear manager for awhile. See if it makes a difference for my Gears battery life before I go looking at anything else.
Okay that has fixed it, going back to Gear Manager 2.1.14071502! The watch has been on for 3.5 hours and is still at 100% rather than 55% as it was yesterday!!!
WTF Samsung?!?!
What the hell have they done with their latest Gear app? It must be causing some sort of wakelock on the watch itself.
Guess I'll wait for a month for newer releases.

Good to know about the Gear Manager, I was gonna suggest a reset , but doing the reset via "recovery" , instead of selecting "download" like when using Odin, you select "recovery" and it resets also. I've done the reset that way in the past and it fixed my issues. I had looked all over the Tizen OS for battery stats with no luck. Maybe the Gear somehow stash's the stats or something on the phone instead...? Hmm, I'm gonna dig around in gear manager..

Yea have a look Chris. Actually I did reset via the GM first time, the second time I did it via the hardware...as in hold power, keep tapping it and reset that way. Both ways made little unfortunately.
My watch was still on 97% after 8 hours of none use over night so I'm pretty sure it's GM. However, now it wants to update and I literally cannot stop it If I say no, it exits the app, if I say yes the obvious happens. How can I block it?
Also, just for fun I've let it run the update. I know the first version of the 'orange GM' had issues and Samsung updated that immediately. I'm speculating over whether that first cocked up version brought over an issue into the latest one. Thereby if I go from an even older version to the latest, the issue may disappear... as always, I'll keep posting results.
after downgrading GM to previous version, my battery life also improved, after 9 hours of having it at work, taking some pics, sync to internet i had 70% left. gorgeous!
i will never ever press update again. each update only brings more bugs and no new functionality.
Well now I want to potentially throw a curve ball...although we'll see by tomorrow. After downgrading to 2.1.14071502 then upgrading to the latest my gear has been sat idle for 2 hours and sits at 100% battery life.
If this works, it means the previous version of the latest software created some kind of bug and carried itself through to the latest revision. So - this *may* have sorted it. I'll have to keep an eye on it for now but it's looking promising.
i did downgrade but it force app to upgrade or it will stop
Well I've never double posted before in my life! Not sure how that happened - apologies
Right it appears to be fixed (finally).
24 hours - 8% battery use - using the latest Gear software...GREAT!
Theory
The first version of the new batch of gear software had some weird bug causing a wakelock on the watch. Upgrading the app didn't remove it.
What I did
1. Deleted the Gear software (and checked for any remainders in the file manager...although personally I found none);
2. Hard reset the watch, just in case;
3. Installed Gear Manager 2.1.14071502 (courtesy of Brendo);

5. I let the software update automatically; (obviously bypassing the dodgy version)!
6. Boom! It works fine with the latest app!
All of that said, you may be able to skip steps 3-5 and directly install the latest version....but I tried that and for some reason I still has horrendous battery life.
I'm not sure why the steps above fixed it, but they did. So have a go if this is pi**ing you off as it may just work.
Cheers!
@jonboyuk I've done what you did ,didnt work , even downloaded latest version 2.2.14092299 from @Brendo but still keeps the going to 2.2.14090599 and saprovider FC , i did clean data saprovider and uninstall it worked , but after restarting gear and re-connect it back as it was even uninstalling saprovider wont help anymore.
so now its draining battery so quick. and media control not working.

I ran the same previous version of GM you did. I got GREAT battery life with it. Completely fixed my problem. Now I do have that stubborn update that keeps popping. This is what I do. I click GM app. Update popup comes up and says Cancel or Update. I click the update and when the DL starts, I hit the home button on my GS4 to minimize the app and then i hold the Home button to clear all apps which shuts down the GM app and kills the update. Then I go back to GM app and it does not ask me to update any more. It stays away until I reboot the phone normally. Temp fix i guess but Ill look into it more and see if there is a way to completely stop it.

I had this issue. I went into Titanium Backup and froze the SAProviders app. Stopped the popup because it was constantly popping up and was very annoying and could not use my phone at all. Frezzing the app solved the pop up but the bad battery life still stayed until i reverted back to a older version of the GM app like I said in the comment above this one. Still looking for a way to perm stop the update from popping up.
Downgrde to previous GM

Every time I try to go back it re-installs 599. Even if I stop it by holding down the home button and close all apps. I re-open GM and it goes right back to downloading additional software. Has anyone figured a way around this? My watch is dead in 6 hours the way it is now so it's basically useless...

first you need to uninstall new Gear Manager, then disable Samsung Apps (Settings->Apps), and then install older GM, you choose. That helped me to disable auto GM update from Samsung, what was very nervous...
Guys, I removed with Titanium all the Gear stuff and installed the 14071502 version without a problem. Freezing SAProviders stopped the update notification from showing up. But my Gear still uses around 10%/hour of battery Anything else I can try?

I have also installed the 2.1.14071502 version. To prevent forcing to upgrade to 2.2, I just disabled Wifi and 3G.. so, it only installs the software of this version. When I got paired, I go to Gear Manager Setup and uncheck the Automatic Update .. so, I only have that version. For goprovider FC, I installed the version from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2758364 (goprovider-signed-20140529.apk )
And that's all! I have a working goprovider, with 2.1 Manager.... BUT, this version doesn't allow the notification from any app! So, I don't get notifications from WhatsApp, FB, skype.. none! So, do you have another later version (not 2.2)? or any other way to get Whatsapp, etc notifications?
Anyone experience lag in opening an app when a notification comes through?
When I click on notification for some apps, it'll take anywhere between 3-10min to open. Only happens on some apps. Viber and smartthings are 2 that I have noticed this issue on.
I've noticed some slight lag in apps opening from their notification, but that's measured in seconds, not minutes.

I've noticed a lag of about 45 seconds once or twice. Usually a reboot will resolve it but it could be an errant app or especially if it's trying to retrieve something from the web before showing the window and you have no connection temporarily (poor programming practice) etc...

Only with Secure Folder and only after updating apps in that folder.
Hmm... Maybe an uninstall and reinstall of those apps.. Will try it out once I have a chance to backup.. Must be the way I use my phone.. As same issue was happening on previous phone I was on..
Exactly same failure here. But not minutes, just a lot of seconds. I can click on the notification and then wait, and wait, and wait, open other apps, navigate, and then, suddenly, the app of the notification opens. Very annoying. Lots of apps having this issue.
Reboot the movile solve the issue, but it returns few hours later.
I have never formatted the movile yet, and updated from nougat to oreo. If anyone give us a solution, I think I will format the mobile.
I see there is few people answering this thread, maybe few people having this issue...
never happens at all to me
I have never had this issue, all apps open quicly when clicking their notification
Same here. Stock, updated from Nougat to Oreo.
On my device only notifications from the Play Store cause lag.
It is not that often, therefore I keep calm
I am also having this exact same issue on my Note 9 with 8GB of ram, running Pie O.S. and it is driving me crazy! Someone PLEASE help us figure this one out!
I have wiped phone cache in recovery, even the cache for certain apps, rebooted the phone and in some cases even cleared app data and STILL have this problem.
Thanks.

Factory reset might solve all these.
Thanks for the suggestion, however I always save that option as an absolute last resort.
Hopefully someone has experienced this and has a solution short of a FDR.
Anyone?...
I encountered issues like that more than once. Narrowed it down to /data that causes the issue to happen, as OS reinstall without userdata wipe changed absolutely nothing. OS version doesn't matter. 5.1.1 and 6.0.1 behaved the same.
I've also found that when the said thing happens, you can probably notice another things happening, such as the prompt (when you open terminal emulator app) appears after seconds or sometimes even minutes.
Call recording apps start recording at least few seconds into the call, so short calls in some cases won't be registered at all.
Banking apps will notify the user about ie. incoming transfers with a slight delay.
It's like events - external and internal - get stuck somehow. They can also pile up if you, for example, start another instance in app - you click a button a few times and after some time you'll get those few instances starting instantaneously and simultaneously, just as if somebody lifted leg from a brake pedal. It doesn't have much sense - every single one should be delayed by approx. the same amount of time, but they clearly are not.
Anyway, I'd be very happy if we could figure out what causes that, because doing a complete wipe, even with help of Titanium Backup regarding the restore (did that once, worked perfectly), is not something I'm looking forward to.
I continue to have this issue on my note 9..and now on my note10 plus the issue has returned after over a month of use.. Sigh.. I've completely turned off battery optimisation but no luck..
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10+/help/slow-app-tapping-notifications-t4013173
Continuing discussion on the note 10 plus forum..
I am finding that my apps that send notifications, specifically that I send through LIghtflow, are either not notifying, or doing so 30 min. to an hour late.
I am also finding that installing as well as uninstalling apps are quite slow.
POwer saver is not on; battery optimization is not on for the offending apps; they are set to run in the background.
Anyone else experiencing this? Or any suggestions?
Regarding the slow downloads, I am finding the download finishes (according to the status bars, etc), but it then goes into a state of Install Pending. Can't find anything on that.
For anyone who cares, I have it resolved for the time being.
After 2 factory resets, I remembered back to the days i used to root my phones, and remembered that one strongly recommended task in that process was to delete cache.
So I did a final factory reset and deleted the cache also and all seems to be good.
When this crops up again I will try the cache delete w/o a factory reset and see how it goes.
Not getting much help here but I'll keep this thread upgraded.
It is again not working right. Lightroom is either not notifying or it's doing it 30 minutes late.
Play store downloads but then doesn't install for a period of time.
I'm beginning to think something is wrong with the phone.
This thing is driving me nuts. Following is what's going on, and have seen:
I've gone through 4 factory resets. All works find at first. Having decided that maybe there is an app interfering, I installed an app or two, tested, repeat...with delays between repeats. All seems fine.
But then late into the second day, w/o any installs, I goes haywire again. Symptoms are:
I use DGT GTD for my ToDo list. First thing I will notice is that when I add a new task, it will NOT show up in the widget list, and at the same time it stops notifications.
All apps stop sending notifications to Lightflow...or LIghtflow does not recognize the notifications. Not sure which is the case.
When add a new app on the Play Store, it downloads as quick as normal, but then it takes forever to install.
I installed AVAST, and checked for viruses. Came back clean.
I suspect it could be a phone problem. My Mate 9 works fine right now, with all the same apps. But, when a factory reset results in it working (at least during the short time a tech would evaluate), the phone can't be exchanged.
If anyone has any thoughts. I'm all ears. I'll keep posting, hopefully, ultimately, with a resolution. Maybe it'll help someone.
For the past two days the temperature display on the stock home screen has disappeared. Additionally, I can't figured out how to access the Google Weather app at all. Restarting the phone brings back the temperature/app to the home screen for a few hours but then it disappears again.
Any suggestions?
Thank you

Go to the Google app and tap the weather in the upper left of the screen. Then the options ellipsis "add to homescreen" and you'll always have access. Mine disappears at least 2 or 3 times / day then all of a sudden it's back. But I don't sweat it now with the home screen weather option.
Thank you, not a bad workaround..it still sucks to not be able to see the temperature at a glance on the lock screen though.
After googling it a little further I seem to have found a fix, clearing the Google App storage. As soon as I did the temperature return to the home screen, hopefully permanently. And hopefully I don't regret clearing over a GB of data from the app lol. I'm not sure what it had saved.

Lol it did disappear for a while yesterday afternoon but was back again this morning on it's own so...
Fortunately, I haven't noticed any other differences with the Google app. It did take a while to load and get back up to speed after I cleared the storage so I think most of the important stuff was restored automatically
Power management, destroyer of worlds.
Any power management apps are suspect, avoid using 3rd party ones.
Check to make sure this isn't what's picking it off.
No clue where or how many places it's found on this variant.
Developer options>standby apps, all buckets should show as active otherwise power management is active.
Individual app settings may also be misconfigured for battery savings and background data.

Clear system cache.

Yeah I was afraid of that. It has a mind of its own and does what it pleases. I've actually seen it disappear and reappear in the time it takes to get in and out of the shower. I also use a VPN but it doesn't matter, I've tried it both with it on and off. Same result.

Hmm, yeah, for troubleshooting purposes I should also mention I use an always-on VPN too (wireguard to my home network where I have Pi-Hole setup). Initially, I thought that it could be Pi-Hole blocking related but after restarting my phone with it the VPN off a few days ago, like you said it still disappeared eventually.
lol fwiw, I sent a feedback message through the Google app describing the issue, maybe at some point they find the issue.

Try a network reset... and clear the system cache (this cures many strange glitches).
I just had to do a full Factory reset, and still this get removed randomly. Pretty annoying since Google wont let us remove it, and I don't know of any good solutions to remove it like we can the Google search bar, thanks to eg.
I really like the work-around outlined above.

With a factory reset even if does work the issue is likely to reoccur. Best to find the root cause.
Factory resets are useful for viruses, rootkits, major firmware updates and boot loops.
The modern Android OS can be surprisingly secure, robust and long lived.
Those who update/upgrade will not see this longevity and will be forced to do factory resets for optimum functionality (assuming the upgrade doesn't ruin the user experience, frequently it does). Google can't help itself*... you can.
*constant change is the rule and frequently Google will maim and degrade their product usability even cancel it. It's their nature...

I have never had this problem, but I have wiped a couple of times now after updating to the next version of 12, and I've been on it since DP1.
Maybe a wipe couldn't hurt to try. Save any apps' .apks that you didn't get from the Play Store to G Drive or Dropbox or something like that. Force a backup for everything with adb shell to backup to G Drive (Google's backup system is surprisingly good now) and after restoring it, all you'll have to do is sign into apps again. Also, save anything you want to keep in /downloads.
Wiping is really only a minor inconvenience if you do preparation and/or prepare for the possibility of it being something you have to do beforehand.
That being said, I really miss the days of TWRP backups and an extSD

I don't use any Google backup, except Gmail which stores it automatically, on my 10+, all critical data goes on the data drive ie SD card.
That in turn is redundantly backed up on a flashstick and hdds.
Texts, AT&T backup.
Google play Services runs only as needed. Google Backup Transport, Framework and Firebase never run... I killed Google as much as was practical.
So the no cloud apps running draining bandwidth and battery. I took some time, used trial/error and thought it through. I've had it with big sister Gookill Hard experience has taught me not to trust Google over the last 15+ years. Got tried of getting burned. Gmail was so much better 12 years ago, it's zenith... a prime example of the incompetence of Google. Or Picasso
I backup all my apps and updates with ApkExport so no Playstore is needed on a reload. Homescreen and themes are backup by Samsung StartSwitch. All critical apps like Poweramp, ColorNote, etc have their settings saved the the SD card, etc.
Basically I can do a full restore with no internet connection save text messages. Apps that don't permit saved backups may be lost but in the case of malware or an unknown issue that may be a good thing. After 2 back to back boot loops and factory resets over a year ago... I streamlined the time wasting reload process.
I expect to reload at 6 months or so when the OS started to show signs of age. Not so. All I do is minimum maintenance with SD Maid and the old Samsung Device Care cleaner. Of all my XP, XPx64, W7, Kitkat loads over the years this stock Pie load has proven to have aged exceptionally well. There were a couple times I had to do some serious witch hunting because of a rogue app or a hidden setting issue but was able to resolve it without damage to the OS.
So I just leave it be...
In my experience the Android Pie has proven to be robust and very versatile.
Because I'm running a stock AT&T 10+, TWRP backups are not possible
And just like that my weather is gone. Two beers at the local brewery and adios. I'll ask the Mrs. what the weather holds for tomorrow. Can I say, Ok Google you win, give me back my weather?

And just a little added info, my wife has the P5 also and doesn't know what a VPN is no less uses one. Same thing happens to her phone at different times than mine. Both of us 100% stock.

This is my first Pixel, and I am loving it. Using a VPN for me just messes with the location, the bug is still random. Wish Google would fix this, or just let us remove the darn thing.

Ok, I think some confusion by my post. I most certainly did NOT perform the factory reset in hopes to fix this Weather bug.. I was just stating that even on a fresh install this is still happening.. Google needs to address/fix it.

I'm very confused by your posts. They are completely OT.
Are you even using the Pixel 5.
Heck, are you even on Android 11?
Please start a new thread, or find one that suits what you'd like to speak about, as this isn't the place to talk about de-Googleing, as much as I agree with it.

All Androids share common problems and solutions. I cross platform searches between manufacturers/devices/Android versions frequently to find solutions... otherwise my 10+/Pie still be a mess!
If the issue still remains after a factory reset it just proves the original settings may be misconfigured from the get go. Putting it in Safe mode would have been enough.
You need to play with it and start looking hard.
Cross platform as I described when doing Google searches and use multiple search engines.
You don't see me posting threads about issues I have until they're fixed. I try to post solutions only. Occasionally I acknowledge a known issue as glitches are common... as are work arounds.
As for Android 11, you have my sympathy. A lot of 3rd party diagnostic tools were lost starting with Q making your task harder.

Just found this solution:
https://www.reddit.com/r/pixel_phones/comments/n6vxp4
That works for now The other tip I saw was rather than removing the new widget like in the video, keep it on another screen. For now I removed it but if it disappears again (which it probably will), I'm going to try that.

I wonder if this will even be a thing when Android 12 comes out. As of beta 5 there is no weather on the lockscreen but it's not certain it will stay that way for release.
The last update had some issue and the device got into bootloop during restart. Hope this update does not have such issue. I had to check it manually yesterday.

I didn't had any issue with any of the previous updates (btw what update caused bootloop on your device? any problems with update could be caused by installed apps). Anyway, OOS12 has some quirks here and there but nothing serious. It's quite stable and suitable for daily usage.
I have installed it yesterday (version EB2103_11.C.05). After testing I can confirm that it is working very well, including 5G network. Also wifi networking is working without any problems.
Any help with a bootloop after updating this update?

Thanks.
It magically went back to the previous version after 3 reboots and several bootloops. No idea how it happened but it seems to be all fine.

It's because there are two slots A and B for this kind of thing, your actual OS boots from slot A, you download update & install it on slot B and if something goes wrong, device returns to boot from slot A.
What a wonderfull time to be alive

Hi, I have a model EB2103, and I want to know if this update is also for this model, if so, where can I download it?
I have the EB2103 version here and upgraded to Oos12. I deeply regret to have done it. The system is slow, ugly, and keeps resetting from nowhere. The fingerprint lock just fails much more and I miss a lot of features. The one a miss most is the hidden apps that I could easily access from apps, by swiping to right. This is gone and now I need to open the telephone app and type a PIN to see a little window will the hidden apps. Looking for a downgrade of my phone right now.
As I wrote here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/need-help-updating-my-oneplus-nord-ce-5g.4495611/
everything is fine with me, the system is running as like a Swiss watch.

I can definitely confirm that the update broke a lot of settings. For me it reset the battery and notification settings for several apps, for example AccuBattery. The apps notification icon does not show up in the top anymore and I think this is the case for every non-system app right now. I am using Nova Launcher and had to do quite a rework of my theming. Colors of the clock widget changed to a cyan, which looked awefull and the google calendar app widget went pale. I also had to remove apps that I previously deactivated.
All in all a horrible update that destroyed my theming and installed a bunch of stuff I did not ask for.
Looking forward to the end of warranty next year to root and remove the OS for something cleaner. Guess this will be the only OnePlus in my posession.
EDIT: I figured out why in my case the notification icons disappeared. I've set "don't disturb" and all the notification icons disappeared, as is with the notification icon of AccuBattery, which is a silent notification. So not only does the system not display a notification in silent mode (which is ok) it also disables the icon in the top banner for some reason. Does anybody know how to disable that behaviour and have it like before, where notifications are silent, but their icons appear in the top banner?
EDIT2: Got the AccuBattery icon working by holding the finger onto the silent notification in the pull-down and then set the notification to "important".
How to downgrade to previous version???? the updates really sucks..it now looks like ****!!!

I didn't find out the best way to do it. It looks like MSM Download Tool is the way, but my drivers are still not working as should recognize the phone... I almost bricked the phone 'cause I started flashing it and the phone just reset in the middle of the process.
After a few days, I also noticed that the fingerprint sensor reacts really slow.
Today I printed a document and the print job just crashed after successfully sending the document to the printer.
To top it off, my Moto 360 3rd Gen battery life went from 1.5 days to just under 6 hours.

Try to re-register your fingerprints, this should work.
Did you try to print another document to reproduce the error?
To avoid battery problems on your smartwatch, you could try to allow only apps sending notification, that you need (i.e. Whatsapp, Instagram, Telegram etc.). I assume, that every app send notifications to your smartwatch atm

Thanks for the suggestions, I will try to look at the app rights management again, but I already restricted a lot of stuff and the point is, that before the update, everything just worked a lot better. It is a disappointing update overall that causes a lot of unnecessary problems.
I could not get root to work after the update since the TWRP image was not bootable anymore (flashing it caused the phone only to boot to fastboot). I got the phone working again by factory reset. If anyone knows a solution it would be highly appreciated.
By far the best update to Android on this phone. 11 was just abysmal compared to this.
It runs extremely smooth with no stutters. Everything opens up very quickly etc.
The battery time is, at the same time, clearly better.
It looks much cleaner.
And the functionality is mostly for the better too!
It's been a long time since I have been this positivley surprised by an android update!
No problems when updating, everything worked and missed nothing important after the update.
It's a 100% worth it!
Installed recently and breaks termux with phantom process 32. If you use termux and any of its plugins, this will certainly break it.
