Hi all,
Have found an issue with MMS. I can send them fine, and the person receiving them has no problems.
When I receive an MMS, though, it's greatly reduced in both size and quality.
I've tried saving the MMS image to open in the gallery app - in case the messaging app displayed it smaller for some reason - but it displayed the same.
The only settings I can find (I believe) are only related to sending not receiving, but none the less has been checked at 600k for maximum size.
My previous phone - One XL, same network/carrier - didn't have this issue at all.
It just looks as though the One compresses incoming images :/
Has anyone else experienced this?

Wow, I think we have found one of the last 5 MMS users in the world!
(Sorry, that wasn't helpful )
Sounds like the person sending you the image has compressed it. Seems unlikely that your phone would compress incoming images
Haha, I still use it on a regular basis!
Not being compressed from sender tho - I work for a Telco, and have sent images from multiple handsets - all of which came through compressed.
From my phone, I've sent a photo to both myself and other handsets (iPhone & Galaxy S III). Comes through perfectly on them, comes through reduced on mine.
So it's definitely unique to the handset, and it's definitely compressing incoming images :/

Why don't people use MMS anymore? I send MMS to my girlfriend throughout the day and she sends to me. Am I missing something?

People use apps like Whatapp and Facebook to send pictures to one another as its free to do so. MMS messages are usually not part of the included texts so are charged.
All my friends send MMS all the time. I think most plans in Canada have nation-wide SMS and MMS included though.
Use whatever works best for you and the people you communicate with.
However, SMS and MMS (from a data-transmission standpoint) are about the worst way you could possibly send text and pictures/media (in terms of speed and reliability). Apple was smart to invent iMessage and have it tied to peoples phone number. They were dumb not to open it up to every platform and there-by kill SMS once and for all. G+, FaceBook, and 100s of others are trying to get control of peoples SMS/MMS, but nobody other than Apple has been smart enough to converge people that still use it with the modern digital-data age.
I'm not saying you shouldn't still use it... I'm saying the fact that it is more convenient for you to still use it is a major failure of the software industry (HTC, Google, your carrier, Apple, or whoever you want to point the finger at.).
OP: Please let us know if you find a solution. I get an MMS every now and then, and it being compressed is bs... it should be upscaled like 1080p TVs do if anything.

Ah, that makes perfect sense. My girlfriend doesn't have a smartphone (she likes little phones for her little hands) and rarely uses FB, so we are relegated to MMS. I use Whatsapp with other friends and family. I'm not too worried about charges since Sprint has unlimited text and data.

I got an MMS this morning from my iPhone 5-using friend on Verizon and it wasn't noticeably compressed.

Nahhh man, LOTS of people still use MMS -- probably the majority of people with cell phones...... they are already conversing via sms.... so mms is what they use... for convenience sake.
And it has been fee for probably five years (with unlimited text and pics plans becoming more the norm)
I would be surprised if more than 2% avoid using mms, even though it is pretty lossy.

The problem is they are still using SMS. When Android was first invented, the first G1 phone had a GoogleTalk online bubble in the contacts/dialer. They were hoping people with Android phones would use GoogleTalk instead of SMS (as I always do), but it did not catch on. Apple on the other hand built iMessage right into the SMS app and forced their users to use it... too bad there is not an iMessage app for Android... we could all be free of the evils of SMS just like iPhone-to-iPhone users are.

Welcome to the outside world! You'll be shocked there's still millions of people using MMS... Specially like here in our country where you could send one for free
Just so you can see, these are screen shots. Same photo, same source. First image is as received on One XL, second is from the One.
Clearly obvious how much they're being reduced :/
Has no-one else honestly not noticed this?
It's practically a deal breaker
i have noticed this also...thought it was the sender. will have to play around with this myself.
**UPDATE**
Today received a call from Telstra about the tech enquiry I asked for.
They've done some in-house testing, and have confirmed it is a unique issue to the One, nothing to do with carriers.
I've lodged 2 separate support 'tickets' with HTC, and am currently in the middle of email trails trying to find a resolution.
Will report back with more info when available.

I just noticed this today. I am unable to send a mms picture larger than 50-80kb even though the size is multiple MB.
I checked all settings but can't figure out a way to use a larger image as mms.
Stock android 4.3
This is really annoying because i am sending images of text that aren't readable when reduced in quality. I would rather text than email.

SMS, MMS, and Fax-Machines are the worst data-transmission technologies that we are forced to cling on to. I long for the day when all 3 are extinct.
i dont know if my problem is the same but its really annoying when i can't send pictures taken from my phone camera. i can send pictures from the internet and pictures that arent very high quality taken with my camera but with a lot of the pictures i take that have a lot of detail and very focused they always fail when their sending. i have not changed any settings for MMS
Hi,
I just have a general question about the on screen display of the HTC one. I'm using HTC ROM 4.2.2; not rooted (I do not plan to root in near future since this device is brand new...)
I know this device is 4.7" with 1080p resolution, but currently the on screen display bugs me a little.
As pictures are better than words in most cases I've made screenshots of three different devices.
I know that's 7" to 4.7" to 3.7" , but somehow I can't understand why I am seeing on my 1080p HTC One almost as less as on my HTC Desire Z!? I excepted at least a viewport similar to the the Nexus 7.
On the other hand, if I view websites I'm almost on par with my Nexus 7; yes I have to zoom in a little to read those medium/tiny letters, but that's given...
Well, to make long things short: is there a (hidden) option somewhere deep in the maze of menus which adjusts me (at least) the mail app?! I've tried to change all "font size" settings I've found but with no actual success.
Btw. I'd like to keep the stock email app... since I don't need more functions or stupid ad-banners when using 3rd party mail apps.
Thank you!
Kind regards,
Ok, just found out that this seems to be a HTC bug... though, gmail app renders the same html mail as expected (say:complete without scrollbars, but still readable in terms of font size )... So I thought to seek and install the stock email.apk since this was doing good on the N7... partly a success...the mail is at least readable in landscape view (just scrolling vertically..), in portrait mode it is a bit smaller than in the HTC mail app (still no satisfying font size)... I conclude that there must be a global setting somewhere... which affects the email apps html renderer....
(just talking to myself )
I have been debating buying a Moto X for some time. I keep missing the Dev edition before it sells out (twice now) and I have really been having a hard time with this. I'd like to know what your overall impressions are as well as your input on some various features.
For background, I'm currently using the G2, which I like very much, but the Touchless control, active notificaitons, Moto Connect, Trusted BT devices, and Moto assist features are a big draw for me.
So my questions:
How do you feel about the build quality (overall as well as any defects with your device)?
Do you like the screen? Anyone coming from a 1080p device feel that they are kind of missing out?
Touchless control - Do you use it and if so, do you find it useful?
Active notifications - Do you like this feature more than a dedicated LED? Do you find that you miss notifications or that the screen doesn't come on when you'd like?
Moto Connect - Anyone using this regularly? Does it work well?
Trusted BT Devices - Is anyone using this to bypass pin lock on a corporate account? If so, what device are you using (Pebble smartwatch, jawbone, etc) and how is it working for you?
Moto Assist - How is that feature working for you? Do you find it indespensible, or just nice to have?
Camera (post update) - Anyone with the camera update care to elaborate on how you feel about the X as a camera now?
I know that's a lot of questions. You don't have to answer them all. Just weigh in where you have input. I have read all the reviews and I'm trying to gather some real world commentary on these features and the device as a whole before I pull the trigger.
Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.
Build quality is excellent in my opinion. Coming from a HTC ONE I don't miss 1080p one bit especially with the gained battery life from a lower resolution screen. Motorola connect is my favorite feature so far. I've never had an issue with it. Active display is a game changer. Overall it's the best device I've used to date. You won't regret getting one.

I use Motorola connect a lot too and it is one of my favorite features. but for some reason it doesn't like my contacts and contact pictures. for most of my conversations it only shows the phone number. I don't know why. some of the contacts display picture and name. others just display the number.
1. perfect
2. cant tell the difference, like the video rendering better than what ive seen to date on any android
3. very useful, im doing all my texts and calling without using my hands
4. love this one, cant go back now to not having it
5. downloaded the chrome extension, great
6. not using this
7. use it for driving, plays pandora when i start driving without touching anything
8. happy now, happier in "very soon" as motorola stated today
9. dont wait, get it, its a GREAT phone

Mine used to show only numbers on most contacts and names on a few. The last few days it seems to have been corrected lately as I'm seeing all of my contact names. I did swap out my first x(white) for the black one and when I set up moto connect on the new one the contact names now show. Maybe if you delete and re add the chrome extension it would work? Just guessing though.

I don't believe it uses a lot of battery. It didn't on mine. I started using moto connect but it seems still in its beta stages. If you like moto connect I might suggest trying the mightytext app. They have been doing the text from computer stuff for a lot longer. I was using it previously and switched back to this until moto connect becomes more reliable. The contacts sometimes appear for some people. i had it both ways. Reinstalling at one point made them all appear. But I don't like the pop-out windows much.
Differences/similarities between connect and mightytext:
1. both use a chrome extension and have pop ups in the bottom right corner of your screen
2. MT pops up an individual conversation between you and the other person while I believe the connect just pulled a pop up of all of your text (this was one of my biggest issues)
3. MC lagged more with me when sending texts and then marking that it had sent texts in comparison to MT
4. MT has a webpage that has all of your text on it while MC does a pop out from the chrome extension button that when you click anything else not in the box it goes away. But you can click the pop out button there so MC will make a different window, but it seems to reload messages when it does this
5. Sometimes when viewing the texts from the chrome extension pop out and the actual pop out window in MC they didn't match
6. sometimes in MC it will show the text someone sent but not have loaded the ones I sent yet but it did eventually load. This happened especially when I sent the text manually from my phone as opposed to from my computer while using MC.
as for your other questions. I really think this phone might be a good buy because of its hardware. I feel like the development of touchless controls and other apps that may use the same hardware in the future could get huge. Other phones won't be able to do this because they don't have the low power processor. Also active notifications can become highly improved. Further there is an led light on the phone but I nor anywhere I have read has figured out how to utilize it if we decided we wanted the led light as well as active notifications. Also, the camera technology allowing better action shots isn't that great right now but it can be improved greatly over time. And finally, many of the areas that things can be improved on are more apps then big updates that will need to be released by google, so they will hopefully get to your phone faster, e.g., touchelss controls, active notifications, etc..
How do you feel about the build quality (overall as well as any defects with your device)?
Overall build quality is nice and the phone has a nice weight and feel to it.
Do you like the screen? Anyone coming from a 1080p device feel that they are kind of missing out?
Screen is fine, and more than adequate.
Touchless control - Do you use it and if so, do you find it useful?
I have only tested it but appears it could be useful
Active notifications - Do you like this feature more than a dedicated LED? Do you find that you miss notifications or that the screen doesn't come on when you'd like?
So far I like it but it is a little sensitive. Some additional controls would be nice.
Moto Connect - Anyone using this regularly? Does it work well?
On my list to test...
Trusted BT Devices - Is anyone using this to bypass pin lock on a corporate account? If so, what device are you using (Pebble smartwatch, jawbone, etc) and how is it working for you?
Trusted BT works well and is a nice feature.
Moto Assist - How is that feature working for you? Do you find it indespensible, or just nice to have?
Camera (post update) - Anyone with the camera update care to elaborate on how you feel about the X as a camera now?
Do not have the update yet.
Hello,
I changed from a lifetime of Samsungs to a Huawei P20 Pro 2 days ago. I am struggling to find things in the settings as I was so accustomed to the Samsung enviroment, but I will not give up!
Do any of you happen to know if there is any way of converting an image to text, directly through any inbuilt function? There was a function on my S8 where I selected an area of an image and I could convert it to text, I wanted something similar.
And even though I have auto-brightness off, my screen seems to flicker in luminosity when I change between apps, it starts brighter, and after a few seconds it dims ever so slightly, not sure if depends on their white/not white background, is this normal or related to any feature I am not aware of?
Thank you so much!
Try opening the photo in Google photos and use Google lens feature to copy the text from the photo. I've used it several times ?

Hi,
Does anyone have any screen flickering with the Oppo Find x3 Pro? If yes, is there any fix?
Mine is doing the flickering when used at 120Hz Refresh rate, I've attached a short clip with the issue.
It seems that the issue is related to the gallery app, also the scrolling is very slow (60Hz is smoother and faster). I've tried a random gallery app from Play store and works just fine. Can anyone do a port of the OnePlus gallery app?
Thank you!
Just tested, with c47 update, Dark Mode Enabled, 120Hz and I have no flickering issues with Oppo Gallery app.
But by default I use Google Photos app.
Quick update
I've contacted Oppo and this was their reply:
By the situation described by yourself, this matter is being addressed and some handsets are receiving an update specially for this screen flickering. Also, each handset is used on different SIM providers, so this means the update is not received in the same time. Please open Settings>Apps>App management> Tap the 3 dots top corner right>Show System> Type in the search bar “Software update”> Storage usage> Clear data and Clear Cache please. After this, please also restart the handset. Rest assured there is no need to request a repair, as this aspect has been addressed, but please also understand that the update will be received shortly, and the most important is that the screen has no faults developed.
Update :
After using TunnelBear and changing location to Belgium I was able to update the phone and after a few restarts the issue was fixed. Hurray!
