Once you've saved a screen memo (like a shopping list in my case - I saved it by accident by inserting the s-pen), can you still get it back on your screen off memo? Now when I take my s-pen out with the screen off, I get a blank memo. I really wish there was a way to get it back to the screen off memo so I could use it while shopping without using much battery or opening my phone. Thoughts?
you can pin it clicking pin icon, recall later double clicking the pin, but if your main concern is battery, well the phone is running, screen is on regardless if it's full on or in screen off memo mode and background apps are running, so not much of a difference. You're better off picking up dark theme and dark wallpapers and have lower battery usage screen off or not. If you want to be really scientific about it, download program to monitor and record battery usage, write on paper what time what mode your phone was and what was battery drain exactly and compare. Personally, I think there are much more effective ways to save battery, like above mentioned dark theme or manually killing unused apps.

But once it's been saved and it's only found in your Samsung notes, can you still pin it? I don't see the option.
A black screen would certainly be way less battery than the white one, but really it's about convenience. I can not even unlock my screen and still get to my grocery list versus having to unlock it. Small thing I know, but it is definitely more convenient when pinned.
Sorry, I don't know if and how you can pin already saved note to AOD display.

Seems like you can't.
That's annoying. It's as if you can't put your s-pen away for fear of the auto save.
I think the original idea was to have a way to make quick hand note, like writing somebody's phone number you just met on the street, or quick memo at the meeting and I used it in such a way many times, nothing more. You can pin saved note to the home screen and reach it there easily, after opening the phone. One reason your idea may never be implemented could be security, you never know what important info people could have there and having that info so visible may be against current trend of securing things. You may use it for nothing more than shopping list, but for example I used it to write complicated passwords to bank accounts and computer networks etc.
Also, it seems screen off memo is Samsung Note series exclusive feature, so it may be trial and error for them to figure what exactly people want and do with it. Taking away Action memo and it's advanced features, which was available on older Notes and no more suggests to me they still trying to figure it out.

I agree, in general.
I saw people suggesting in reviews that it could be used as a grocery list and I liked the idea. I saw one review showing someone using it at the store actually. Maybe it was staged.
1. I use AT&T in the USA. In the past when using Huawei phones no matter which application I use for text, MMS pictures appear fuzzy and smaller in size then the same pics being sent from an AT&T phone. I've used google messages, textra, makes no difference...is there a way to send MMS pictures with high quality images?
2. Is there a way to turn off the auto dimming feature? When I open chrome or gmail it dims by itself, even when auto brightness is set to off. I have read this is a long standing problem with huawei.
anybody?

Hello guys
Need your help on this one please
I bought this device a couple of months ago and it's good device but
There is a serious problem I couldn't find a solution for it
There is something wrong with 3D viewing on any browser in this device
I'd appreciate your help
Hi guys,
on my trip to Ireland I missed a nice feature of my old Huawei P10 where I can set a mode for long exposure photography at daylight to make water look smooth (for example). Huawei made an extra mode for this including light burst and other nice features.
On the S10 I'm missing such a thing.
With the pro mode I can set the exposure time but the photos are getting way to bright.
Does someone know how to make such long exposure pictures with the S10?
Greetings,
Jannomag
@Jannomag
What you're trying to accomplish will require 'Pro' mode.
Click on the 'Galaxy S10+ - F-Stop & Exposure.jpg' screenshot I attached.
That should allow for longer exposure; anywhere from 1/24000 to 10 seconds.
The second screenshot, Galaxy S10+ - ISO.jpg, should assist if you're looking to introduce more/less light.
I don't find the Galaxy phones great for manual photography but, using the two settings together, you'll eventually find the right balance for you.

As I mentioned it above, the photos are getting overexposed. See the example I attached. I used f1.5 with 1/4 exposure.
As an example I also attached a picture made with my wife's Huawei P20 and it's silk water mode.

I'm giving to provide some insight and kindly step away from this discussion.
Every hardware vendor approaches digital imaging differently. Meaning just because Huawei achieves one effect; doesn't necessarily mean Samsung isn't able to and vice-versa.
To the best of my knowledge, Samsung doesn't have a 'silky water mode' but that doesn't mean it's impossible.
For example, here is a reference image taken from a Galaxy S8 (a device from 2 years ago):
https://i.redd.it/gmmnsuguop311.png
The user in question, kiosk123, used the Samsung camera app and manually set his ISO to 50 with a 2 second exposure.
With a tripod and a similar setting, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do the same.
Here's a simple tutorial if you require more explanation:

On night time or low light it's possible but on daylight, the photos are getting too bright. (Look at my Attachment, where I used ISO 50 and 1/4s shutter speed with f/1.5).
I think Huawei doesn't use the shutter speed for this effect. Instead they're using a series of pictures and merge them.
An app which does this would be also great, but I couldn't find any.

Did you try editing the picture after actual shot ? Shoot in Raw and edit using Photoshop for android or snapseed.
Manual Exposure control helps but is disbaled when using manual shutter speed after 1/10 and I dont think we can capture the effect you need

I tried to edit it, yes. But it's way too bright.
I'll try to shoot many pictures in burst mode and combine them manually on PC. It's a handy work but it should work

Have you tried using f2.4? Maybe it can help bringing the exposure down a little bit. Also, make sure to shoot RAW and later dial down the exposure all you can in Lightroom.

With f2.4 it's even e bit brighter. Also with RAW it's too bright to get back every part of the image. Some parts are completely white.
It's sad that there's no different app or that Samsung doesn't support those nice features. I used them often on my holiday trips. Also the light trail feature is quiet nice because sometimes the picture gets also too bright when shooting in cities with near street lamps.
nvm...I have to deal with it, it's sad for a 800€ phone but everything else is good.
You have to use ND filter to achieve the long exposure shot during daylight.
You're literally asking for something that doesn't work without an ND filter.
The whole point of LONG EXPOSURE is literally in the name.
You can't get "long exposure" without exposing the sensor to more and more light the longer the shutter is open.
Whatever huawei was doing isn't real long exposure during daylight because that is impossible without an ND filter over the lens.
The p20 uses software to average multiple expdures so you could so it in bright daylight. It worked really well and wish I had something similar on my s20
Hello,
I downloaded the EMU 10 update yesterday and am seriously thinking of reverting back to EMUI 9.
Is there anyway you can change the size of the contact photo when they ring? The small circle with their picture is ridiculous and a huge step down.
I've also noticed when I make a phone call through my hands free in my car (Ford Sync 3) their pictures have stopped showing up altogether.
Any replies would be greatly appreciated!

It's been the circle since early EMUI 10 beta and i don't think they will get it back as it was on EMUI 9.1, because as you can see, the circle contact picture's position is right where the electromagnetic sound from in display vibrations is set, so it might be something related with that.
As an altenative, you can use Full Screen Caller or other apps, which i know is not pleasant but it's a must do if you want half or full screen contact picture.
Downgrading after me is not an option, because i don't think they will release more than one firmware with updated security patch and then releasing only EMUI 10 firmwares with updated security patches.

I have never been a fan of Huawei's contacts app. You can download Google Contacts from the Play Store for free and see if you like it better. It has a different look and feel, and I've not noticed any lost functionality.
You can also set video ringtones, like I do. Just because of the same issue: I dont like the small BS photo. I want a full size photo. So I made a short video for my contacts and assigned it...
Hi All
Has anyone a link to a user guide for the phone? I didn't get a paper one and although I can use a phone and install apps with ease, there are lots and lots of camera features which I'm finding out by experimentation.
I've emailed Xiaomi, but don't expect an answer and couldn't find the user guide on the Xiaomi site. For example, I didn't find the macro setting much use, but 5x zoom in Photo mode works MUCH better.
Thanks for reading...
Steve
ps I did a couple of timings and did the following:
1) Charge up to 100% and play the "Norwegian Train Ride" video on YouTube.
The phone lasted 11.5 hours before turning off.
2) Charged it back up to 100% with the 67W charger (that USB cable is thick!)
It took 50 minutes to charge back up to 100%

Well slap me with a wet kipper! Xiaomi UK did reply with a link, but it's only a generic manual how to make phone calls, etc. if it's any use to anyone it's here:

I've contacted them again asking for a user guide for the camera so wait and see.

Hi @justintime thanks for your reply. I took a look on Youube but I think most of the shootlikeapro videos are for other xiaomi phones.
I'll carry on experimenting (guessing) and report what I find here in case it helps anyone else.
So far I've found this:
The macro mode isn't much different to normal mode and my Note10 is much better than the Ultra. However, using the 2x or 5x zoom instead works very well.
Night mode is amazing! Night pics look like daylight pics
Next up I'm going to play with time lapse and night mode time lapse so I'll post up here.
Cheers
Steve
Oh yes, my note10 pro took 8 seconds to post-process a night picture and the Ultra takes 3 seconds. Snapdragon 888. num num num.
Ok next up is daytime time lapse.
To use it you open the camera, choose More and Time-lapse.
On the left of the screen, you get a timer icon and if you touch this, you get speed and duration options. For the duration, you can choose a set time, or infinity so it will record forever, or until your storage is full.
For the speed, you can set it from 4x to 180x. I tried a time lapse of the clouds at 4x, but the speed was not fast enough for what I wanted, but 30x was just dandy.
So I think the speed setting is a multiplier for the output speed, so 4x is 4x faster than normal etc.
Tonight it's a night mode time lapse. To access this, you choose more/movie effects/ Night Time lapse ( I think! )
Anyway, I'll post up when I have some results
Cheers

Oh yes, something else I forgot. When you record time lapse, the screen goes black apart from a ring timer showing you the duration so far. I guess this saves battery
Well I tried night time lapse last night. The phone was on battery and was dead in the morning. The video was saved just fine. The results weren't very good, nowhere near as good as the demo night time lapse in More/Movie Effects. It just looks like a normal video with no night enhancements and was quite dark. Maybe I did something wrong :-(
I've just updated to MIUI 12.5.4 and according to the page below, it includes 13 camera enhancements, including night mode, so I'll give it a go tonight.
https://min.news/en/tech/590f98d68b0fdbb259d5fd644b74d23c.html
Another issue is camera access. I've tried a few camera2 api checkers from the Play Store, but all only show 2 cameras , front (1) and back (0) which is a bit dissapointing as I'd quite like to use other camera apps and choose the lens. Hm......
The nice part is they both support LEVEL_3 and RAW output.
Cheers Steve

So two things I've noticed that have helped improve my night mode video recording from initial testing so far is to turn off AI mode and if possible, use a handheld tripod/stabilizer if you have one. Seems to help a lot in both 1080p and 4k 30fps.
Hi @kyero985 thanks for your reply. AI is turned off and I have a Joby Gorillapod which I use for night video. The videos have very low colour rendering, almost a black and white version.
I'll post up a screen grab of my night video for reference as soon as I can.

I've attached a screenshot of a night video which seems very poor to me. Also attached is another screen shot from a camera2 API checker on the play store. Disappointingly, it only lists 2 cameras which is irritating. I guess I need to root it and enable camera2 API?

I think the 2 cameras being detected in camera2 API checkers (front & main cam) is normal. I had the Vivo X51 Pro (also known as Vivo X50 Pro in some markets) and it was the same.
HOWEVER, when using Google Camera ports from BSG with the Snapcam package signature, ALL cameras are detected and can be used. Hopefully it's the same thing with Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra.
Hi All
I just installed EU Weekly ROM 21.6.16 Beta and the camera seems improved. Notably the screen lag when zooming at high factors.
The ROM above was offered OTA so I downloaded the zip, booted to TWRP, wiped the Dalvik cache and installed it without any backups (eek) and it all worked fine. No data loss or anything.
It's tricky to find the subject at high zooms, couple that with screen lag of the image and it's even harder.
Now the screen updates really fast so congrats to the EU ROM team!
I also noticed the Macro seems better and more able to get closer to the image. Also previoulsy night mode video didn't seem to work very well. Hardly any colour information so almost a black-and-white image (see above).
It's light here in the UK now (6pm) so when it's darker (around 9pm) I'll give it a bash and report back. Fingers crossed!
Cheers

Thanks for sharing your feedback! I'm tempted to flash the EU Weekly ROM myself too as I'm keen on testing the potential all-round camera improvements too.
I'm still on 12.5.7 CN Stable myself and don't have many complaints as it's come a long way since the stock firmware but I am really curious and feeling up to do more testing.
No problem. That's what we're all here for, to share our experiences to hopefully help others.
Obviously I'm going to say you should always backup before flashing, but as I had backed up the previous day so took the risk.

Thanks for the tip! I'll be able to unlock my BL this Sunday so I'm looking forward to flashing the 24/06 EU Weekly which should be out by then. I'm ready to format my data and use TWRP to complete this process.
I'll be posting some photo comparisons too as I have done previously. How big of an improvement have you noticed over the previous stable?
Hi that's what these forums are for eh? Sharing info for all to see. Th mani improvement I notices was improvement on the camera lag issue. This was noticable when you try to zoom at high factors. Clearly at high zoom, it's hard to steady the camera, but even harder when the screen image lags behind.
I'm on EU weekly now MIUI 12.6 21.6.23 beta and it seems fine.
Cheers
Steve
As promised, I flashed the EU 21.6.23 Weekly today from CN 12.5.7 and everything's working well so far. Thanks for all your advice so far. A few things I've noticed about the camera so far:
1. All levels of Zoom are incredibly stable now. Even at 120x (not that you'd want to use it a lot), it hardly shakes or stutters. Quality of zoomed-in photos are better as a result since it can stabilize and lock-on more quickly. However, anything over 40x is still unusable imo.
2. Night Mode photos are a tiny bit better. There's a bit more detail and clarity and slightly less noise all-round in all of my low light sample shots. Handheld Night Mode Zoom shots are considerably better due to the stabilization improvement on the telephoto lens since you need to be still for about 5 seconds anyway.
3. Taking photos up close is better now. No, it's still not on the same level as the S21 Ultra since that phone still takes the best macro mode shots from what I've seen, but it is noticeable and a small step-up over 12.5.7.
