Hiya all! I was hoping i could get some advice on your recommended method for rootng my new S5. I havent done a root since i bought my s4 over a year ago, so i wanna get up to speed on current rooting. I already tried the Towelroot and it doesnt work on my phone. Im guessing my phone came preloaded with the update that breaks towelroot. I tried the tricks with changing the number values in Towel by tapping the screen 3 times , but none of them worked, they all say my phone isnt compatible. So id like to know a few things. A: which root method do you wonderful XDA peeps recommend i use? and B: what would u recommend i do to remove all the annoying bloatware and such? Its been a while for me, so i didnt wanna rush headlong into this without getting a professional opinion first. Perhaps theres a good custom Rom i could flash?
Thanks!

Samsung unlock Bootloader on SM-870A.
Thanks ! That was a breeze! phone has been successfully rooted! Any recommendations on what to use to remove all the bloatware and crap? Im considering trying a custom rom sometime, but for now i at least wanna clean this up and get it running better with more storage space!
Hi everyone, after years of owning an Optimus G, I finally decided to get me a G4 as I saw at a good price.
So after skimming through a bit I noticed there's some stuff going about 6.0 update issues and how some recent batches are fine now. I'm a bit confused so wanted to know what's good to do with the new device (rooting, unlocking, updating, etc) as I haven't decided to update to 6.0 because of what the forums say.
What's a good set of steps to get the phone working at its fullest? All advice is appreciated.

Just bought one too. It's a great device. Mine came with 6.0 installed.
Updating is good, IMHO. I had 20i out of the box though..
You can unlock bootloader and root and even install ROMs!
I unlocked my bootloader and installed TWRP within the first hour of owning the device. Modified the stock 6.0 system to my liking and it runs fantastically. Very stable.
I also use CM13. I love Cyanogenmod. So I had to install it. CM13 is quite good and very snappy on this device. You lose some function of the camera and several features of the stock OS but you reap the benefits of amazing firmware and great options.. Honestly, it's a toss up between the 2 firmwares (stock & CM) for me. The camera takes great photos in CM13 but no manual mode or 4k video or laser focus apparently. But you will need to start with stock 6.0..
It really depends what you want out of your phone..
There's also many options for ROMs to install.

Hey thanks for the feedback! I did upgrade as a leap of faith and no real problems so far. And yeah, I decided to root now anyways as all the bloat is getting annoying.
As for roms, I did consider CM so I'll give it a try! Thanks a lot for your suggestion

be aware that g4 has bootloop issues , and if unlocked bootloader then warranty doesnt cover it any more..
you can only downgrade to lollipop 10N or update to MM..
mine is locked and am on LP rooted//with xposed.

I just got mine which is already on 6.0 and is 20i
I do worry about the bootloop issues that I saw many people got into that and turn the phone into trash, so is there any way I can use other rom or at least to take off those bloatware like T-mobile and amazon etc?
I have no idea how to do this kinda of things and read some post that all pretty confusing to me since they all put in some tech words like " SDK or ADB" in these steps
"4. Using the android issue SDK. Open a command window and link it to your SDK folder where ADB is located (typically Platform-Tools)
5. Once the Command window is linked to the folder, connect your device via USB and allow the connection. "
So if anyone can help me with as simple step by step ways to do it for new beginner that would be great.

am also worried.. thats why i have bootloader locked.. am itching to unlock it... but in case of bootloop we need the moddified TOT file but it doesnt support USA phones.. they said to change name with hex editor program... one guy tried it and it bricked phone... if we had a working file for our h811 i would unlock it.. flash file ..try the relocking bootloader command and flash stock firmware and send to LG ... but no one has made moddified TOT or have make a video of relocking bootloader... i only see a thread that confirms it can be done...
do not update new 20o its antirollback V3.. youll be stuck in it for ever..
on 20i MM you cant unless you unlock bootloader....
but on LP 10n yes you can root it... and remove all crap..
20i MM and LP 10n its antirollback V2 you can switch to them .. lower then that will brick phone..
i could help.. if you want to use LP 10n.. to root.. as unlocking bootloader i have no idea...
LOL same here am not good a commands and adb shell stuff... but reading carefully and if doubt ask, then i can be done..
I just got this phone as well, I have heard that the last run units have the bootloop issue fixed but not sure if that is just LG propaganda. I got one manufactured April 2016 and it was the last one any of the stores local to me had in stock brand new in box. I mean I've only had it for a day and it already has 20o on it so hopefully I'm good. I have jump so it really only needs to last a year anyway.

Yeah, ended up finding a method. I played too much with it though and now I'm having issues connecting to my LTE network. Oh well, live and learn I guess.
I doubt I'll do more than root and then use root explorer to force disable any apps I can't do normally. I get 7GB of free tethering per line with T-Mo as well so I don't even need a rom for the tether hack although if I start flying again and use my LTE as my internet source I might then... I routinely used over 100GB a month when I had verizon unlimited a few years ago and was flying.
Today i bring you the very first rom for our device.
It's only stock, but the installer includes enough options to keep us happy for a while.
The core installation includes a stripped down system menu with Google play and contacts. I also added, by default, the WiFi fix and hotspot mod. The rest of what you install is your choice.
Aroma options:
Choose which J320 you own
Debloat (fully customizable)
Deknox
Install root
Install busybox
Install Init.d
Install Xposed
Bugs:
None
If you find any let me know, but if you do not wipe, please don't even report bugs.

Flashfire
Enjoy

This uses the same base files for each room, AQG1. So even tho the highest firmware for J320AG is only AQB1 you still get the July security update (minus the new sboot)
All devices are interchangable for me, on Cricket. Depending on your carrier maybe they'll all work for you too.
I have AT&T Samsung Galaxy Express Prime GoPhone, J320A. Owned it for one week. It has been carrier-unlocked. I'm now using T-Mobile SIM. Seems to work OK. Only issue I can find is where the SIM status page does not show my phone number.
I would appreciate pointers or maybe a place to look for installation steps. I assume I'll to need to root via Kingroot then replace with SuperSU (if possible). Then install FlashFire. I have rooted and installed ROMs on other devices (Galaxy Exhibit, 2012 Nexus tablet, Moto G), but seemingly devices are more locked-down these days. I understand that TWRP is not available for this device and likely will not be.
Last year, I bought a couple of inexpensive T-Mobile phones and "rooted" them with KingRoot which is still installed on those phones. (Not really thrilled about that.) I put rooted in quotes because it doesn't quite behave like a fully-rooted phone, IMO. I'm not very expert in these things, but I know how to follow steps and have used ODIN, TWRP, et cetera.
I'm leery of working with these more locked-down phones. Am I being paranoid and/or incorrect about these matters?
BTW, thanks for the ROM! I'm surprised there aren't more replies.
Maybe this phone is not as popular as I think it should be. Maybe it's too low-spec for the tech-savvy crowd. I got mine for just $64 at Walmart online, but they've since raised the price to $79. Seems like a good deal, even at that price.
I paid $15 to carrier-unlock it. I had to flash firmware (modem file?) before unlocking, then flash another file (restored modem?) after unlocking. I was following emailed instructions after the initial unlock procedure failed.
Here's the root thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j3-2016/how-to/root-samsung-sm-j320a-galaxy-express-t3573628
There's a xposed module that does just that, never tried it tho, and of course it's not permanent.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...pp-sim-changer-change-registered-sim-t2106490
I definitely like the phone and yeah, it's a good price.
Being locked does hurt it tho. No easy recovery and no roms from source. The only thing we might get will be ported. And with no kernel, porting is a pain to track down problems... but i like a challenge
My J3 was unlocked out of the box? Still don't quite get the different names for it though. Rooted with infixremix method and worked fi e until its download caused the dialer to crash whenever it was opened. Still trying to sort out the mess I made of this one.
original stock
hey do any of you guys know where I can get the original firmware to restore this device? mine is the S/W: j320aueu1ape9
on the box it says j320x UD

How is this ROM working out?
Can anyone -- or DamienMc, the creator -- post a review of how this ROM is working out? Brief or long; any type of review would be appreciated.
I'm thinking of trying this ROM and I haven't rooted my phone yet.
Although I did unlock the carrier via a paid unlocker site. I'm using it on T-Mobile with no apparent issues. My phone is stock, of course, except for being carrier-unlocked. …Several questions, if I might:
Are those "extra" AT&T and Samsung accounts present? (ref. screenshot)
Are Samsung factory (i.e.: theme-able) dialer, messaging, and contacts apps installed?
Is it still possible to theme the UI with the Samsung theme installer?
Finally, which bloat icons have been purged? (ref. screenshot) I realize one's idea of bloat may vary from individual.
Any feedback or commentary is welcome. Thank you for your consideration.
could it work on J320H?
i know it's for 320A/Az but i want to try it

I'm not going to review it (someone else can)
But I used it heavily before I started work on something new.
It's as stable as stock... cause it is stock Nothing tweaked just the few add-ons to let you tweak it easier.
About the bloat.
I did notice I should have left Samsung account (and maybe billing) with the standard install. Because you can't use the theme store without them. But they're in 'bloat'.
You can always install all the debloat options and have 100% deodex stock and edit to your liking.

How do we flash this to our device mainly because twrp and cwm ain't a thing for the j320a. Also I'm using kingroot and I cannot go to su I've tried also flashify does not work either does flashfire how would you go about rooting with su cause I've tried the mrw method and contanstaly it would pop up kinguser has stopped working so do you have another method of rooting the J320A. I just followed the first post about rooting it.

After mrc and kinguser crashes you should have supersu. You need to run that first, let it update the files and then reboot.
If su doesn't even get installed, have the apk ready and install.
Another thing you should make sure your really rooted, reboot after king and recheck.
Also what versions of kingroot and mrw are you using?

I followed the rooting thread OP directions carefully and had many problems. My initial Kingroot was really ugly and heated the phone. I then attempted to use SuperSU-Me Pro (paid version). It was never able to complete, even after several tries. I struggled using various techniques over many hours. (I did have root with Kingroot.) Nothing would remove Kingroot 5.0.5, and as you probably know, Kingroot won't allow for many apps such as Flashfire. Very frustrating. I probably shortened the life of my phone and battery with all the crap I tried. Many pulls of my battery were needed.
I finally wrested control from Kingroot by uninstalling version 5.0.5 and installing Kingroot 4.5 instead. Then SuperSU-Me Pro did its work. Had I used Kingroot 4.5 from the outset, would things would have gone better? I don't know. The rooting process for this phone is a one-way trip with a dubious outcome. I know the Express Prime is not costly, but if you're risk adverse think twice before trying to root. I suppose you can undo the whole thing, but I haven't tried and likely will not.
Despite the problems I had, I believe using SuperSU-Me Pro was worth the cost and ultimately saved time. I'm glad I rooted my phone, but -- damn, it was a lot of effort compared to previous phones and my tablet.
I have not tried the de-odexed ROM posted in this thread's OP, but it's on my to-do list. I'm kind of afraid of messing with my phone for the time being. I'll post a review if and when I try it out.
For what it's worth, I wasn't able to get my built-in flashlight toggle to work. I ran the fix script via flashfire with no success. Update: Fixed after installing Busybox. Thanks, DamienMc!

Hi,
I realllyyyy need some advice... I bought an unlocked AT&T Samsung S5 from ebay as a spare phone. Currently is on android 5.1.1. Is there anyway this can be updated to a newer version? I've read several posts on how to do this except they are for different builds. I tried doing on and flashing with Odin but it just said Failed.
The build I have is G900AUCU4CO15 I cant seem to find anything online about how to update it. Is there no new version available for this build? Should I return this one and get a different S5 or an S6?
Thanks
I did similar to you : bought an unlocked s5 off ebay which turned out to be an AT&T branded one when it arrived. I used the Odin method to get up to MM, without any problems.
However, if you still have the option I would try to return it and get a non AT&T one as they are locked down and you can't do much with them (pretty much no custom ROMs, and no chance of Nougat or further ROM development).

Yes it is unlockable. Make sure you buy the unlocked version and not the Alexa or Android One version.
To unlock it, you first have to enable "OEM Unlocking" in developer options, then use fastboot to unlock the bootloader in fastboot mode on the phone.
You can't root those phones from Amazon. I got one and had to return it. Ended up getting a Google fi model (bare bones android, no bloat) and it was like 50 bucks cheaper than amazon but I did go with their service. End of story is that I unlocked the phone directly from Motorola and I rooted it no problem with Magisk.

No problem sir. Not saying you use this piece of technology but I could not get Xposed Framework to work on that phone. No matter how I tried it would boot loop my phone. Additionally if you are going to root it then you want to be aware of this thread:

It has the factory roms for all three builds (amazon, fi and retail) so you're fairly safe if something goes wrong.
Good luck!

Lineage works well, but be careful the last three (3) updates broke my phone.
You can recover it,but it is anoying as hell.
Posting in case anyone else runs into this issue. I received a used Moto X4 I bought on Swappa. This is the Android One version; still had a Fi sim in it. It appears a factory reset was done but when I went into developer options to allow oem unlocking the slider was greyed out. While troubleshooting I saw an option in the bootloader called Factory and decided to try it. I assumed that was a factory reset but it didn't appear to do so as I didn't have to run through the initial setup again. Though I did have to re-enable developer options, so something got reset. This time the slider to allow oem unlocking was no longer greyed out. I was then able to unlock the bootloader.
