Hey guys,
I bought a second hand phone off Amazon, it has been working great until now...
I have already contacted both Verizon support and Samsung support for this issue. After July 12th the phone is no longer be able to access the internet via it's mobile network connection. I have the unlimited prepaid plan, and have had no issues on this phone until the July 12th update that rolled out. At the same time as that update occurred the auto-payment renewed my plan.
Things we have tried:
VERIZON:
1) Restart, waiting 2 minutes in between
2) Airplane mode activation / deactivation
3) SIM card removal, restart, SIM card insertion
4) Changing various settings in mobile network settings
5) Turned off their plan (from their side) and renewed it again
6) They then referred me to Samsung support
SAMSUNG:
1) Wipe cache partition
2) Wipe and factory reset
3) Asked me to take it into a Samsung station, my phone is not under warranty
After all this the issue is still there. The mobile data enable/disable button is toggleable up until a few minutes that it has been started up. Then it greys itself out and is un-toggleable. I have 4G LTE showing 3 bars at the top of the phone. I see the uploading arrow whenever i try and load anything, but never a down arrow except for when it is first started.
Any suggestions? I have experience in rooting / flashing, if it comes to that. I would prefer to stay stock for stability, however. Thanks in advance.
At midnight CST, service was restored. Assumed account updating issue.

I cannot get my T-Mobile One to stop roaming onto AT&T towers. As a result, the measly 50mb/month I'm alotted goes very quickly. The roaming toggle in mobile data settings literally has no effect at all. AT&T towers are correctly identified in pulldown shade, but data is active regardless of roaming toggle position and T-Mobile is dinging me for it.
History:
HTC One purchased from T-Mobile 4.1.2 with Root - Issue described above was present.
Same handset; EU 4.2.2 Stock rooted ROM - AT&T Towers showed up as T-Mobile in pulldown shade, but data not available regardless of Roaming Toggle position.
Same handset; DEV edition rooted 4.3 ROM and firmware - Original issue is back. AT&T towers are correctly identified in pulldown shade, but data is active regardless of roaming toggle position.
Anyone ever seen this?
The Roaming toggle is for use when you are overseas and then the phone can't see any of your service providers towers
It then can log on to a foreign tower and charge you a large amount of cash for each and every MB
You need to switch of Mobile Date to stop it using 3/4G data
Unless you have failed to state your issue clearly of course
Turning data roaming on or off
Connect to your mobile operator’s partner networks and access data services when
you’re out of your mobile operator’s coverage area.
Using data services while roaming may be costly. Check with your mobile operator
for data roaming rates before you use data roaming.
1. With two fingers, swipe down from the status bar to open Quick settings.
2. If Mobile data is off, tap the Mobile data tile to turn it on.
3. Tap . The Mobile network settings screen opens.
4. Select or clear the Data roaming option.
Select the Data roaming sound option if you’d like HTC One to play a sound so you’ll
know when it’s connecting to a roaming network.

Thanks. I could go on and on about the way the toggle performs on every other handset I've owned, the t-mobile HTC One of a local guy I talked to yesterday, blah blah blah.... As indicated by the HTC doc you referenced yourself, it has everything to do with "partner networks" and nothing to do with their geographic location. Oh, and I want to tear out my own eyeballs when I see "Unless you have failed to state your issue clearly of course" in response to a meticulously crafted post. Then again... it's been a few days since the OP so maybe I'm just butt hurt that no one cares about me :crying:
It occurred to me that I got a new SIM card at the same time I got my One, so I strolled into the local t-mobile store yesterday and had the card replaced. It's a long shot, but I will be in a roaming situation again in a couple days and will update this thread at that time.
New SIM card = no difference.
Swapped SIM with wife's phone. My SIM in her nexus 4 behaved correctly, her's in my One = same problem I had with my SIM.
So, my issue is isolated to the handset.
I don't know why, but I've always thought APN settings were stored on the SIM. I noticed the APN selection on our 2 devices (One LTE capable and one not) didn't change when I swapped the SIMs so I double checked the APN settings on my One. Looks normal to me - LTE works and everything else - but I did some digging and found slightly different settings that owners of unlocked AT&T LTE handsets are successfully using on TMO, so I've applied them and will maybe get lucky when I go roaming tonight.

So what if I'm the only one here?
Anyway, different APN settings changed things BUT not the behavior of the data roaming toggle. RUU'd the phone to TMO 4.1.2 factory new, then upgraded to TMO 4.3 - Same problem.
I finally made the dreaded call to TMO and the tech was actually really good. Much easier to get him to understand the issue than I thought it would be, even though (like everyone else on the planet) he has never seen it.
This issue combined with the better-known low light camera hue problem means I'll receive a replacement handset tomorrow. Will report back here if roaming issue persists with new hardware - if only to vent to myself!
Wondering if anyone can help me out. I've already spent hours on the phone with tmobile and they can't seem to solve it.
I've had this problem ongoing since getting this phone. Basically I get no data roaming. Places Ive tried: Canada (several cities in BC as well as Quebec and Ontario), UAE, Bahamas. I spend a lot of time in Canada so its a real issue. Things I have tried:
- Factory reset
- Upgrade to 5.1.1 using Odin.
- Try sim card in friend's phone (4G works no problem in Canada)
- A bunch of other stuff I don't remember
Symptoms:
- About 50% of the time the phone works for calls and text
- The rest of the time it says "emergancy calls only". Restarting the phone immediately restores ability to make calls/send text. This happens regardless of signal strength.
- Data connection never works. Only time I got 4G was the very first time I entered canada with this phone. . Restarting the phone would make it connect to 4G for about 1-2 minutes before it would lose data connection. Restarting the phone would bring it back. After about half a day the phone completely lost ability to make data connection and has never been able to get data connection internationally since then.
- Sometimes I get this message: "you have lost data connectivity because you left your home network with data roaming turned off". Data roaming is definitely turned on. I've enabled in settings and also via #RON# short code.

This sounds like a config issue to me. the random drops to emergency seems to be issues with roaming not being set up right. It sounds like your APNs are not setup correctly or something. have you gotten any info from t-mobile on Roaming APNs? i'm not sure if it needs to be adjusted for roaming or not.

Yeh thats what it seemed like to me as well but I went over the APN settings with them on several occasions. I also looked them up online. Everything seems correct. The only thing they had me change was APN roaming protocol from IPv6 to IPv4/IPv6.
Dial *#*#4636#*#* (on stock dialer), in Device Information try to change network settings to LTE/WCDMA.
What are your APN settings? Provide info about all fields.
Did u ever solve this issue ? I'm having the same problem...
Hey all!
I'm still rocking a VS980 until maybe early next year. I finally got around to rooting it since the stock rom was overheating the phone, and CM13 is a great upgrade. Only one small problem.. about a week after I upgraded to CM13 I lost my ability to use LTE data. Here's everything I've tried:
- I put the SIM in my old(er) phone, a HTC M7. That gets 4G no problem.
- Set preferred network type to Global and turned data roaming on
- I also double checked the APN between the two devices. There were some minor differences, but upon adjusting them to match it still didn't fix the issue. I reverted back after seeing that. I see a lot more options though, and it doesn't switch automatically to VSWINTERNET, instead staying on the admin profile without data.
- I tried editing build.prop with LTE tweaks including changing the default cdma value to 10, but that didn't work.
- Dialed *#*#4636#*#* and set the LTE option to every option that included CDMA; it didn't work. I also pressed Enable Data Connection which, ironically, disabled data connection.
- Finally restored the phone with stock firmware, only to have the phone not able to read SIM cards at all.
I'm honestly at a loss of what to do now. I flashed CM13 again and I'm at square 1. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix my phone? Otherwise it might have to spend the rest of its life as a glorified home theater remote. Let me know if you need any info. Thanks all!
I'll keep it short. I have rooted Sprint Note 5. Currently with TWRP recovery and MOAR rom. I called Sprint to "Unlock" the phone for me (wasn't financed, I purchased it outright on Swappa...previous owner apparently used it on Ting) and the unlock went through. Now, I'm not sure whether the unlock I did was a domestic unlock or just an unlock to use the phone overseas. My fault for not finding out.
Fast forward. I went over to MetroPCS yesterday with my Sprint Note 5. The sim card was accepted and I called MetroPCS so that they can register the IMEI of the phone in their database. I quickly tested data and sent a text but didn't bother making a phone call. Long story short for the life of me I cannot get a phone call to go through.
I've tried two different MetroPCS APN settings and messed with Network settings (LTE/CDMA and Automatic) The best I can do is get data working and text messaging but not phone calls. I went into MetroPCS today to see if one of the morons could see if they could do something with it. The guy went into Network Mode and changed it to the GSM/whatever option (don't have the phone in front of me ATM) and sure enough the phone was able to make a phone call and the data worked!
However, around 30 minutes later I try to use data to update an app in the PlayStore and I'm notified that I have no connection. I go back and forth between Network settings and I'm back to square one where I can only get data and messaging. The GSM Network Mode no longer shows a signal.
Soooooooo, if anyone can get me through this mess I will give $20 for your time and energy! I'm about to just flash stock Sprint firmware and sell this piece of crap on Ebay and get different phone for MetroPCS. This thread is my last attempt at finding a resolution!
@SantinoInc, have you checked with Sprint if they have locked the device?
What bands does Metro use for 4G/LTE and is it compatible with a Sprint-based device?
Try using 2G/3G mode instead of the 4G/LTE mode.
What rom are you using?
Hi guys, i have a problem with my Galaxy S23.
I am connected to wifi at home and mobile data on. But, when i turn off the wifi, the mobile data does not activate. I've checked the APN settings, i call the provider, i reset the network settings ... same issue.
Mobile data is activating only if i call to a short number like *100#. If i don't dial, even the mobile data toggle is on there is no connection.
Can you please help me !
Have you tried a factory reset?
This is the only thing i don't want to do, because i'm going to lose my eSim's.

Fairly certain this shouldn't matter. I think they stay when you reset the phone. You might want to research this more.
Ok, so i did a factory reset. Nothing changed. However, i found an option in developer mode "mobile data always active". This is keeping the data on even if wifi is connected. It is running ok now, but, the battery consumption is a bit higher.
Hi guys,
I'm from Brazil and I'm having the same issue on my S23 ultra.
I use 1 eSIM from Vivo and a SIM from TIM.
When I'm using the mobile data, sometimes it doesn't work even the 4G or 5G are on.
I tried switch between carrier (Tim and Vivo) and both show 4G sign and doesn't work.
There are two ways to restore the mobile data, restart the phone or turn off and turn on the airplane mode. But after some minutes the problem continues.
I went to a Samsung Store and they put a new and clean OS, but after 1 day the problem started again.
I searched about it and I couldn't find a fix to this problem.
I will try to use only SIM and not use eSIM. I read some articles that the T-Mobile was having same issues.
I think it is a chronic problem. Maybe they need a recall or a new update to fix this issue.
Does any know how to fix this problem?
I have 2 SIMs because there are some places that I work that only 1 carrier works.
Problem solved.
I went to the provider and replaced the sim card with a new one. Now it's working without any issues.
