When I limit some applications like Facebook among others, I do it by removing automatic start and start in the background from security, even so, it is always able to show me notifications.
Can MIUI really stop applications from starting?
I am forced to use Greenify, when it is assumed that miui is able to do the same function

When I load up taskiller, sometimes I will see apps open that I haven't even used for several days. Why do they do that?
They run as services.
What "running as a service" means
Services do things periodically, usually pretty often, like load your sms's and update your email, show something on your home screen as a widget, or know what time it is so your alarm clock goes off. In order to do what they do, they have to be running something, so they run in the background as services.
Try looking in the Market for Advanced Task Manager, or Close Everything. Both of these will close anything that's not needed as a service, but be warned, it'll shut downsome things, like Locale, Autolock, or Owner Info too unless you check them off as exceptions.
i have advance task manager and in the processes tab shows a few things is there anything there i can turn off?
hey guys
I am really confused as to why some apps show to be running in
settings---manage applications--running services
like for example contract killer, office suits, lets golf 3d, NFL pro 2012
knowing that i did not even turn them on, so when I press stop those apps, after few minutes they show up again in running services.
Why is that?????
Most apps have 'listeners' that listen for events. When this event occurs, they are woken by the OS to do whatever they want to so. This is why so many stock apps are impossible to kill, they just start up again.
I use Android Assistant to stop apps starting at boot, and Autorun manager to disable all listeners for apps I do not want active. I think Autorun Manager can do it all itself, however, but I bought AA first.
I kill all things I do not like such as WiFi sharing, Bluetooth sharing, Social and Music Hubs. Be careful not to kill services that are required!
You do need a Rooted phone for this to work, however. It was my main reason for rooting once again. It is well worth it, and not as riskly / tricky as flashing a custom ROM. Be aware you may need to 'unroot' to get OTA updates and warranty fixes.
I also use droidwall to prevent apps getting to the internet by GPS, WiFi or both. That makes me feel a lot safer!
Overall my battery life seems 50% greater, and my mobile data access is about 50% less.
Hi, people...
I am running a rooted stock GB ROM with abyss kernel and would like to know how to prevent certain apps suddenly starting to run in the background. I have Android assistant installed and it is great for killing multiple apps and other stuff. But some apps like Latitude, Gmail, Samsung account, Yahoo finance seem to sneak from behind and when I check AA I see them running so I have to mark them and kill them. How can I completely keep them, or any other non-system app out of operation, unless I start them?
Many thanks....
Killing apps is NOT preventing apps from autorunning.
Task killers are bad because some apps will just rerun itself, wasting battery life.
I personally use Autostarts, it can prevent apps from running when starting up, or when triggered by an event like for example: Wifi connected, data connected, etc...
Be careful with it if you are trying to disable system apps as some things can break your phone.
Markuzy, thanks for the reply...
I know that killing apps isn't doing the job, but at the moment that is what I do when I check my phone and see the pest running around. I have Android assistant there I have been offered to stop stuff like Accuweather, Skype, Youtube and similar stuff from running at startup, but I will try Autostarts to see if that does better job and offer better and more comprehensive list of what can be NOT ALLOWED TO LIVE, as opposed to killing..
Don't worry, I'm not touching any of the system bits, just regular apps...
Use Titanium Backup(Donate version) and then freeze the offending apps.
You can always defrost them later
The app 'Greenify' is a marvelous work by oasisfeng
This is the original thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155737
Playstore link : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify
*Why am I sharing this app?
Because this is going to help those who are running android 4.x or higher, having a feeling that our phone's ram and battery is not enough and still not aware of the process 'Greenifying'
*Are you depending on the process 'freeze' & 'unfreeze' to save your space and feeling it as little inconvenient to do it every time you use the frozen app ?
Then Greenify is the solution.
*This is the definition of Greenifying an app.
"Greenifying an app implies that you are aware that all the background functionality of this app will become out of service during the hibernation except when you are using this app:
Greenify helps you identify and put the bad behaving apps into hibernation when you are not using them, to stop them from lagging your device and leeching the battery, in an unique way! They can do nothing without explicit launch by you or other apps, while still preserving full functionality when running in foreground, similar to iOS apps."
When I read the above I was like " wow, this is the thing that I was searching for ! "
*It is designed and implemented in extremely light-weight, with an average RAM footprint at 2M in total, and nearly zero CPU and battery consumption.
Things to remember :
# The background functionality of the greenified apps will be disabled. The background functionality includes but not limited to:
> Persistent background services
> Broadcast receivers, which respond to global device events, such as network state change, SMS reception.
> Alarms, which activate background task at specific time or interval.
> Widget update. Widget should display but never update because periodic update involves background task.
> Push messages. Push is also disabled since it would activate background task on Android, unlike iOS which just shows up messages to user.
>Please DO NOT greenify alarm clock apps, instant messaging apps unless you never rely on them. Please be sure to verify the impact of greenified apps on which you heavily relies.
# not supported for Android 2.x
In my opinion, this app does what it says.Hope this will be helpful.

Hi guys,
I have my MI 5 a few days I'm happy with it and now I'm testing it
So today I was running and I used Endomodo for save my workout
It use GPS to Record where and how much you run but when I finish it had nothing and I had some message like that "you are losing gps sign maybe your system kill this process to save battery see you settings"
I was tried to change my settings but I see nothing for it.. somebody know what I need to change?
I dont have any other program for battery or to kill apps
Cheers
Apps like Endomondo requires continuous location access, change Settings->Additional Settings->Battery & Performance->Manage apps' battery usage->Choose Apps->Endomondo->No restrictions + Allow background location.
