Magisk is forcing me to use DropBox - Magisk

Is this the way it"s supposed to work ? On MM's Modules page, pressing the yellow + FAB goes straight to DropBox, rather than presenting a standard file picker. This is on my S5. It gives a file picker on my J3.
Also, Magisk Manager will crash if DB is not installed.
MM does have all the permissions that it asks for.
[update] It appears that my S5 doesn't <i>have</i> a file manager, so Magisk is just invoking whatever it sees as a File Manager. I've now installed Total Commander and it all works sanely now.

As far as I know, the Manager uses whatever file explorer you have as default... Check if you have the Dropbox app set for some default setting.

No. It's not that. DB isn't set as the default for anything. I've just updated to 16.7ß and this odd behavior remains.
How do I check for what the default FM is ? None of my other apps do this when picking a file

Ah. It appears I didn't have a file manager at all! Do you really need a whole file manager app just for a file picker dialog ? Anyway, I pointed it at TC, and all is OK now.

[Q] geniewidget not transparent anymore after reboot

Hey guys,
Downloaded the transparent geniewidget and overwrite/backup the original one in the /system/app folder - using super manager app (rooted with visionary). Did an install and everything works fine..(background is transparent).
However upon phone reboot, background is not transparent anymore..(Had to repeat the process above to get background transparency)..It seems that the original file is automatically reinstalled upon reboot (Can't even find my backup file anymore). What did i do wrong here?
Did you enable root access in super manager?
That's all I can think of.
It's one of the first options in the settings.
I would also suggest that you disable super manager's task killer and power management functions.
You might also try tapping on geniewidget apk once it's in system/app and installing it, even though it should work without installing it that way I think that might sometimes help.

I don't have super manager installed right now, that is one way to disable it's management functions btw (uninstall it)
I used super manager before there was a lite version, so maybe things are a little different now, there were a couple of settings I would turn off related to task killing and there was an app2sd reminder function.
I am really fumbling around in the dark myself so take anything I say with a grain of salt.
You should try putting the geniewidget I made (or the other one in the thread) in /data/app as well as system/app.
Try installing it from there too.
Although I just re-checked, and putting the apk in system/app alone did the job for me.
I've never had the probem exactly the way you describe it but I have run into the problem where I haven't found the correct file to rename and then the new file does nothing. I haven't seen the problem manifest on reboot, it just doesn't work.
Make sure you have found geniewidget or com.geniewidget (I forget the exact name), rename it to xxxapk.bak.
Is it still there after your reboot as xxxapk.bak?

[Q] Box app opens APK files by default

Hi,
Since installing the Box app for the free 50GB I found that it opens APK files by default, and I have to a file explorer to manually find them and install.
It doesn't seem like Box has any defaults set, but it still opens files it has nothing to do with.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Install TenderloinParts.apk on OaT's 07/29 Rom

I browse to where I downloaded the file from ES Explorer and click on the app, but I get that install failed? Any help? I like to use a stylus frequently, and with this latest ROM it is missing the input very frequently. I read that this app installed a setting or a switcher app to select between touch and stylus/

Likely you got install failed because it's a system app. That's my guess. Try this instead. If you have a way of using titanium back up on a device where tenderloinparts works, use Ti to back up the app. Take the back up files from that device and move it to your Oats one. From there, drop it into your Ti backup folder. Then have Ti restore the tenderloinparts.
System APK
Well, I didn't exactly follow your advice, but once you pointed out that it was likely a System App, I installed with Root Explorer by copying to \system\app and setting rights to -rw-r-r then reboot and now it works!

Hide Magisk Manager seems not working in v15....is this function been changed now ?

I remember before was okay...when I clicked Hide Magisk Manager from setting, it will rename the app to unhide magisk manager......
But now after I clicked Hide Magisk Manager from setting....it will not re-create a new app for me....and the option for Hide magisk manager is gone in the setting....Just would like to know is this normal or I messed up something ? Please advise . Thanks a lot.
I updated today to version 15 and, in addition to brick my device, the hide function also does not work. I uninstalled the system, reinstalled version 14 and it's all right. I will wait for the correct corrections to update.
I have hide option. I'm using it to apps that detects unwanted root. For me works fine.

The function has changed. It will now repackage the Manager with a random name (you'll see it in the "About" section). That the option to hide the Manager disappears from settings simply means it's hidden. To unhide, install the Manager again. This also means that every time Magisk or the Manager is updated you'll have to rehide the Manager.
I tried again and the problem persists. Is there something new in this version 15 that needs to be configured differently?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Seriously though... Try toggling Hide off and on in the Manager settings, that might fix it for you.
Nothing, not even praying, but version 14 works perfectly. I'll continue with her then.
Checking the Samsung Pay app in Magisk Hide used to work but now it does not. I tried to hide the Magisk app itself but that isn't working either. The app's icon disappears from my home screen but still shows up in my app drawer. Any ideas? I really like Samsung Pay.

Thank you. But it still does not explain why hiding Magisk Manager doesn't work for me. It just deletes the icon from my home screen. It still shows up in the app drawer.

That's something completely different... But completely fine and as it should be.
When you hide the Manager, it uninstalls itself and installs a new Manager with a random package so that apps looking for the Manager doesn't trigger. That's why the home screen shortcut is removed, because the app actually is uninstalled.
Edit: and every time you update Magisk or the Manager this'll happen again, because whenever you reinstall/update the Manager, it gets unhidden. The repackaged Manager is uninstalled and the regular one takes over.

It's already been stated, but that's how it works. It's not hidden so that you can't use it. It's just been hidden by changing the package name to a random one. So, any app looking for the package name com.topjohnwu.magisk won't trigger if you've hidden the Manager.

Sorry about that. Then why isn't this just the default setting if it doesn't affect anything negatively?

No worries mate.
It's always best to keep things running as normal, unless you really need to... The repackaging feature is actually really complicated.
I'm using Magisk 15.3 and installed SafetyNet check then went to Magisk Hide in Menu and selected the apps I want to run as unrooted and it works. Try installing the safetynet check maybe it will work with you as well.

If I am getting the idea of this right, Magisk Manager is supposed to repackage itself with a random name so that it can't be seen by other apps? Or is it supposed to rename itself so when you look in the apps drawer, it is not called Magisk Manager?

Your first assumption is correct. The package name will change from com.topjohnwu.magisk to something random.

Ok, so what is it hiding itself from? Or when I hide other apps, what is it hiding them from? Like if I have a game I want to hide, it keeps the game in my app drawer, so it is not really hiding it from my own eyes.

Magisk Manager not recognized

Hey everyone,
I've got a P9 Lite using a custom rom and when attempting to hide Magisk there's always an error parsing the package. After googling about it found an user saying to grab the patched.apk from "/data/user/0/com.topjohnwu.magisk/files" and install it manually. Perfect! Works then The problem is Magisk itself won't detect the manager afterwards when a new app wants to request the superuser access for the first time. So for apps that need the initial SU request i'll have to install the original manager, grant root access and then uninstall (so i can keep any root traces hidden). Is there any file or so to let magisk know the manager is now X package name or so? Attempted the canary version and the same would happen. This is not really a top priority issue but would be good not to have to bother myself with always having to grab the original magisk manager with the default package name just to grant a new app SU and delete it.
Thanks!
When you're installing the patched apk manually, the new package name doesn't get saved to the Magisk db, meaning Magisk has no idea that the app is supposed to be trusted and won't let it have access. You could manually edit the db, I guess, but that seems a bit cumbersome and better to address the actual issue...
This does sound like an issue that was present in the Manager a few releases ago. What version of the Manager are you using? If you're not on the latest, update and that should be it.
Unfortunately this still happens on the latest
I Had same Problem but i fixed it
do as i say:
1-use magisk manager 5.7 version file of this link: (drive.google.com/drive/folders/1I1WQIhovrA2JijSeK-HLetRv33rEDwYq?usp=sharing)
2-after downloading disconnect internet (or app will update and you should start over)
3-open up the app and go to setting and hide magisk manager (wait until it start to install the hide version)
4-download and install "apk editor" APP and open it
5-select "select apk from app" and select magisk manager and select common edit and copy PACKAGE NAME
6-now connect to the internet and download the latest version of magisk (DO NOT INSTALL IT)
7-open up "apk editor" , this time use "Select an APK file" option an select downloaded apk file , and select common edit
8-paste the package name that you copy in 5 in the package name , uncheck "Rename the package in resourse.arsc" and "Rename the package in DEX files..."
9-in app name use what ever you want , but it should not be magisk manager
10-done , install it
