So after the latest 152 update my phone scrolling seems to have been purposely made smoother, however it became really slow and I have already started hating it. I like to scroll really fast in my feeds and pages but now the phone has adopted this iPhone-like slow scrolling which I always hated.. [emoji849] Trying to find some setting deep down in settings to make it faster but no luck so far..
Is there any tip/setting that I am missing out?

Just to make my op more clear, I am not talking about choppy/laggy scrolling, it just just the scrolling speed which has been set to much slower, ie up until now if you made a fast swipe up the feed would scroll down really fast, now you have to make two three swipes at least in order to reach the same spot.

If you're rooted, grab the magisk module "swap torpedo"
What this does is eliminate the usage of a swap file, which simply isn't required when you have 6GB of RAM, you can obtain RAM truth to see what's currently in use, after installing swap torpedo and a reboot it should read 0MB
This is something that any custom ROM cook would have implemented for you, but seeing as it's a massive ballache to install custom ROMs on the Pro, most people are missing these tweaks that would normally be taken for granted.
Not hard to root if your bootloader is unlocked so give it a shot.

Looks like noone understands what you wrote, but I do, and I feel your pain.
Scrolling is significantly slower, it feels heavy. It is more smooth, but it doesn't "glide" nicely, it requires much more effort.
I noticed it instantly after the .152 update (L29 C432) and I'm looking for a solution since.

Hi all anyone else noticed that the 4.2 update seems to make the N7 worse not better compared to 4.1.2. To me it feels like a step back compared to the speed of Jelly Bean 4.1. It's like project Butter never happened to my device
I've seen a few scattered reports wondering if everyone is seeing this, for instance start up NFS:MW then switch to say Gmail or any other app, the entire thing starts to crawl for me. Problem wasn't present in 4.1.2
Considering reflashing but cant see that making a massive difference I did a full wipe before upgrading.
Thoughts all?
I am still on 4.1 with paranoid..will wait about a few weeks to read how is working..i am happy with curent setup so dont see to rush something "unknown" ..and i see that Bluetooth native tethering does not work which i use for connecting with my phone internet.

Same to me.
Updated via OTA on a rooted device with bootloader relocked. Enabled a second user.
OTA and no problems.
What made you think loading the factory image was the correct thing to do? Surely letting the device deal with it is the best route...

AHH now then, I've got 2 additional user accounts setup, 3 in total.. Could that be the issue, android is monitoring these other accounts even when not in use. I have two accounts with full access and another account sat at welcome.
Anyone else confirm that if you have multiple user accounts the N7 becomes sluggish switching apps?

I'll go out on a sturdy limb here and say.. Because it's the factory image provided by manufacture of the OS? That would seem like a right thing to do huh? Just like when you want to start fresh with Windows you wipe your drive and install via the factory image (DVD in Windows case).. It's 100% of the time a sure fire method the installation you have is the installation the manufacture intended.. Sometimes updates don't turn out all peachy and full of rainbows like they are intended to be.. So, some people take this into consideration and opt for a fresh install instead.

And there is nothing wrong with that. I agree with you.. 4.2 is a step backwards in Android development by a lot.. 4.2 spent 30 entire minutes on my device before I re-partitioned it back to a 4.1.2 file system (getting rid of the user account folder tree) and put 4.1.2 back on it and it'll stay that way until development catches up.

yup i like playing NS:MW and last night after the update the game slowed and stuttered like i was playing resident evil 4 on windows 95.
i think everyone soon will stop making ways to get to 4.2 and start concentrating on a guide for reverting back to 4.1 lmao
4.2 things i dont think i like:
the "edit" look lockscreen with 1 clock number bigger
the effects on games
no otg usb yet
the double notications windows
the update stole my working video cam effects and added a non-working photo-sphere mode....great

Agreed it does feel a bit slower. Opening apps and transitions don't feel as smooth as 4.1

Yeah it is a bit slower, no doubt. It's not just you. Hopefully 4.2.1 brings back the speed.

4.2 certainly "feels" slower to me. The transition on the running apps seems different but I can't tell if it has been updated or is just happening fractionally slower so I'm noticing the transition more. I notice that you get the screenshot and then fractionally later the icon slides in from the left. Has this always happened?
Certainly when tapping the power button to turn off the screen it seems to fade slower and the click noise happens fractionally later than I would expect, which suggests it is just a performance issue.
I have added one new user profile account which I suspect is part of the issue. Pretty happy with the update but roll on 4.2.1

It is definitely slower while the screen is turning off. I suspect adding another user has got something to do with the performance degradation. I really hope 4.2.1 solves these issues.
yes while on Internet Explorer or any other browser I fling my finger as hard as I can to get to the bottom of a page like in ics but now I need to do this 5 times to get to the bottom there seems to be a slowdown that doesn't allow the page to scroll smoothly it always comes to a stop as soon as I lift my finger off the screen? someone tell me I am not the only one that noticed this?
btw jb feels like a downgrade... "always, just once" wtf.
It's the same on other devices, for example galaxy s2 with 4.1.2 so it is JB.

I did and it is the same thing with both opera and the default internet app. i think they were trying to make it feel snappy and not smooth because if you touch slow it pushes but if you slide it pushes and scrolls a little bit, hitting a break and slowing down fast also diuble tap when scrolling no longer makes it go faster.

Just wanted to share an unofficial build of AOKP for our TF701T's I did for myself.
Special thanks to Team AOKP for their wonderful rom!
Disclaimer: You flash it, you break it, you fix it. I will be update the builds weekly or so as new features are added into AOKP regularly.
Flash the same as any other rom. Use current Banks Gapps.
Known issue: I have enabled the glcomposer in the build.prop because the overall smoothness and battery life is greatly improved. However, because ASUS hasn't updated past 4.3, there may be occasional graphical glitches. You can disable the glcomposer by removing the one line in build.prop containing glcomposer in it BUT do try as it is first and see the difference for yourself. I have been using it for a couple weeks now and the graphical glitches are very small and barely noticeable.
Examples of where to see smoothness include: Scrolling homescreens. Swiping pages in App Drawer. Swiping pages in the widget drawer. Swiping away notifications while on homescreen. Swiping down notifications and quicktiles while on homescreen. Swiping to Google Now page in GEL launcher.

Excellent work. Very fast. No graphical glitches so far that i can see. Lets of options.:good:
It's great to see another ROM option for the tf701t! I just tried this out. The graphics really are quite smooth, and I love all of the customization options. Alas, as with cyanogenmod and cromi, Bluetooth functionality is severely diminished -- a mouse barely moves the cursor at all and a keyboard has severe typelag making it unusable. Any idea what's going on thereand how to fix it? I'm happy to be a guinea pig.

Im amazed how smooth it is. I guess this shows with this tegra4 theres still room for improvement which is a good thing.
It's very nice. The camera doesn't crash, and I the current version of Netflix doesn't crash. With some roms I've had to use 3.0.

Not a mouse, but I had another bluetooth keyboard, so I paired it up and gave it a try. Worked perfectly fine with no typelag :/ The one that doesn't work is a combo keyboard/touchpad. I don't think xda will let me link to a product on amazon, but it's a "tp cromeer" branded case with builtin bluetooth keyboard/touuchpad. Made for the N8000, but it fits the tf701t quite nicely.
Any idea why just this one device wouldn't work?

I actually have a mini combo keyboard touchpad I can try tonight.
My guess is going to be some sort of silly device incompatibility though...
I dont have any problems with this inexpensive bluetooth keyboard.
I do find though. I dont know if its possibly the kernel or android itself or if too many apps are running in the background. Input in general and reponsiveness is lost completely until reboot. It starts to lag all input I think. Like touch sensitivity etc. I wonder if anyone else has found this on to be the case on this device. Not sure if there is some app thatll restore it by killing processes possibly. Another thing I notice is that Android is running tonnes of threads. Compared to the few that run on linux. 600+ on android. Less then 100 threads on Linux usually depending on the distro. This rom right now has 900+ threads showing in htop. But it is still smooth as butter. Maybe thats not a big deal then.

It happens on all roms, but it would be a very subtle thing. I dont see it really as a problem. Just something that requires a reboot.

Yes -- I know exactly what you're talking about I think.
On any ROM I've tried, it happens. A fresh reboot always clears things up, but after running a few apps (and / or putting the tablet to sleep overnight perhaps?) the whole system lags a bit. General stuff, like switching programs and running apps like Tapatalk and Engadget (for example). I'm forced to kill apps manually, and that sometimes does the trick.
One thing I tried out yesterday that seems to be helping -- give this a shot too: in your developer settings, you'll see that you can restrict how many background processes are running. Currently, I have background processes limited to just 2 at a time (and also "strict mode" enabled)... and I have to say, I'm noticing a difference! Might take some more testing to see what the pros and cons of this are, but if it just means that I don't have background processes piling up on me, this might be a workaround?
Aside from that, has anyone tried Greenify with good results?

Honestly guys, I don't see this issue using this AOKP rom...I've left it for a few days no reboot, and I don't see any slowdowns/lag.
On a brighter note, I have a new build ready to be uploaded tonight.
I messed up some merges for battery/charging and was struggling to sort it out the last couple days.
All good now.
New build will be up later tonight.

Got it. In that case, I'll have to give this a shot! ☺

To those that updated to 5.1 via OTA, what's the disk speed with encryption turned on? Is it much improved over 5.0? Does it take advantage of Qualcomm's hardware?
I came here to learn the same. I have the modified boot to disable encryption, but if the new HW-based encryption is much faster, I'll happily switch back
Yes very interested in this. I am holding off on the ota since I want to keep it unencrypted and I can find out how to move to 5.1 with staying decrypted

What app do I need? I'll check it.
Anandtech used Androbench: http://www.anandtech.com/show/8725/encryption-and-storage-performance-in-android-50-lollipop
Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.andromeda.androbench2&hl=en
Here ya go.

Darn. Still a huge hit on sequential read (mine's at 223). The rest isn't as bad a hit, though.
For comparison, here's what I just got when I ran it on 5.0.1 unencrypted.
Just ran again. Better!

How fast was 5.01 stock encrypted for reference?

For comparison - I'm also running 5.1 stock encrypted
It looks like there was a performance improvement.
Won't HW encryption still be slower than NO encryption?
Do we know for sure that HW encryption is enabled in 5.1?
Looking at some of the commit messages, I first thought that it *might* be but the more I looked at the code, the more it looked like they did a lot of prep work but actually kept it disabled (i.e. we're still software-only).
I could be wrong, though...

Really hard to judge. But either way, it's clearly improved. Less fast than NO encryption, much faster than before. Sounds like that's PROBABLY due to hardware.
Either way, I do have to say that so far my phone's performing better. Not merely subjectively. A game I play (Spider-Man Unlimited) was impossibly laggy before. It was known for having lag issues, but on my Nexus 5 and 6, post-Lollipop, it was nearly unplayable. In the short time I've been running 5.1, it's been a dramatic improvement. So even if encryption does cause a small hit, other improvements have more than made up for it.

For those that do know how (I don't), can we find out if hardware is being utilized? Perhaps through source code or logs?
Also, is encryption still forced? That is, is there any option in settings to disable encryption if encrypted, without using a modified kernel?

What what spider man unlimited is now playable? Biggest news ever!! I'm not joking either. I've had to constantly play on my moto x instead. [emoji106] [emoji106] [emoji106]
If they moved it to hardware encryption, I may re-enable it, but would rather wait to find out...figure it is saving me some battery by having encryption disabled still.
They do mention it being enabled or added here:

Is there anyway to confirm that it was indeed flipped on in the code?
Figured out how to reproduce the jelly scrolling effect on every phone I have. The jelly scrolling effect isn't an issue with the OnePlus 5. I was able to reproduce the bug on my OnePlus 3T and Samsung Galaxy S7. Here is a video displaying the bug:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylPgd4V-z98
Let me know what you think and if you can reproduce it every time like myself.
Edit: Turns out the stock launcher doesn't have the issue, but nova launcher does. I'm not exactly sure why nova launcher is causing it to happen, but maybe that is why a lot of people are experiencing the issue. Nova launcher is the most popular launcher on the market.

Should be working now. Sorry link was messed up.
Interesting , I can't seem to replicate on stock launcher I've had 3 devices now and none of them had the effect replaced for other reasons mainly just paranoia that I'd got one of the earlier manufacturer date that some had issues with so returned and got a later manufacturer date 10/6/17 , this one performing nice

Just tried with the stock launcher, I can't reproduce the bug at all.... Interesting indeed. I wonder if it's just a nova launcher issue? Could you try installing Nova Launcher and see if you can reproduce the bug?
Tried Nova just as smooth as stock for me although by default the icons are smaller and more on the page maybe it's something Todo with the Grid layout bigger icons more of a gap in between them or something

honestly i see nothing wrong in the video..
out of the dozen videos i have seen so far, i can only identify the jelly effect in one of them..
and that one is now used to illustrate the effect in all major sites/blogs i read..
not trying to imply anything.. maybe the only fact i come to realise from this jelly drama is that im one of the lucky few (who cannot see.. )

Strange, I just reinstalled nova and can reproduce the bug with stock settings. You're getting in between the grid on the app draw right? I was able to reproduce the bug on my 3t, s7 and LG tablet with nova launcher.
Yes in between app icons as said it defaults icons small think 5 in a row if reduce Grid to 4 in a row the gap between apps is greater will try with bigger gap

Try installing nova launcher and scrolling in between the app drawer grid (white area, completely avoid pressing the icons.) Let me know if you can duplicate it. I'm confused why other people are having issues reproducing it like myself. I was able to do it on 4 devices now.

Hmm, in the video it looks like I am directly in between the icons. I am under and middle part of the icons. Hopefully that makes sense. If that doesn't work, then I give up. >.>
Nope can't see it at all . Lol

That's fine. I installed Apex launcher and tested it. Definitely don't experience the jelly scrolling effect with it. Not a big deal if you don't want to contribute. Thanks for your feedback.

Hmm, o well. Thanks for trying at least. Appreciate it a lot. Wonder if other people will have the same issue I'm experiencing.
Only time I get a bit of judder is using appy geek app think due to the image adverts that play as you scroll through almost a jelly effect rather annoying but it's only app related

Issues solved? How? Where?
Still don't see the jelly on mine. I also ran into someone locally that also has a OP5 and he had no jelly screen either. I've got one of the early models and after this latest 4.5.5 update my bad wifi performance is finally gone which was the only real issue I had so far. I was also wondering if the whole jelly thing people are seeing is more noticeable with the standard white theme. I switched mine to the dark theme right out of the box.
Either way, I'm done trying to look for an "issue" that isn't there. I've been trying to spot an ounce of waviness/jellyness since the first reports started popping up and haven't seen anything as such since. Cant speak for anyone else but this is my second phone from OP and I personally have had nothing but great results on both.

I think some people are just more sensitive towards that Issue than others, just like the controversy about seeing 30/60/120 fps and so on

Thats the right way to go about it, if you can't see it, than there is no reason to furthermore try to find it.. Its like once you notice it, you pretty much cant unsee it.. so yeah, glad you dont see it, enjoy your phone!

I always thought this jelly scrolling effect was bogus, ever since I got my oneplus 5 I have never ever seen anything like this...ever.
