I'm a big Samsung fan, but I'm not a fan of the animations/UI/bloatware that slows down my phone! So I'd like to share my "Beast Mode" Note 9! I've used these mods since the S8+ in 2017 and 2 days on the Note 9, on the S8+ I've installed OTA updates from my carrier with no issues since release but please proceed with caution per the disclaimer.
All these custom modifications require ADB and the latest Samsung USB Drivers.
How to enable USB debugging and disable Animations: On your Galaxy please go into Settings > About phone > Software information > Tab on Build number 10 times > Go back to main settings page and scroll to the very bottom > Developer options > Enable USB debugging > *OPTIONAL* Scroll down and disable Window animation, Transition animation, Animator duration scale

Uninstalling Bloatware
You can completely remove bloatware from the system permanently using ADB commands. Package list from the Play Store will show all the installed apps/services on your phone for removal, linked below is a list of bloatware that are safe to remove and you can remove the remainder using Package List (CAUTION: Uninstalling some apps/services may cause force closes and unresponsive apps).

Hiding the Status and Navigation Bar, disabling the Navigation Bar and enabling iPhone X Gestures
You can enjoy your beautiful display without worrying about burn-in from the Status Bar and Navigation by hiding them through enabling Immersive Mode with ADB, after enabling this you'll just have to swipe from the top or bottom of the screen to display the hidden Status/Nav bar. If you want to install a custom bottom bar navigation gesture like the iPhone X, it can be annoying seeing the (hidden)stock Navigation bar everytime you swipe up, luckily these Gesture apps also have the feature to completely disable the stock Navigation bar so it will never appear. I've tested many Gesture Apps and there are 2 that I recommend.
Hiding the Status/Navigation Bar: https://android.gadgethacks.com/how...re-screen-real-estate-no-root-needed-0177297/
Gesture Controls app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.conena.navigation.gesture.control&hl=en_US
Navigation Gestures app: https://www.xda-developers.com/navigation-gestures-iphone-x-app-xda/
Samsung Gestures and Updated Recent Apps look aka "Samsung Android P"
Samsung uses the Edge screen for navigation gestures instead of the bottom, also they have updated the recent apps to look more like Android P. Linked is a Youtube video that showcases these "Samsung Android P" features, but do not download them using the links in the Youtube description. The links in the Youtube description are outdated versions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Q38DoGTX4M
How to download: You can download these in the Galaxy Apps store. Search "One Hand Operation +" and "Good Lock 2018".
Enjoy!
noob question here , can that flipboard app be removed using this method? I didn't seem to find it in the lists of safe to remove apps. I also could have missed it. if I understand it right , by using this process I can remove any app without having to have root , or "tripping knox" .

Yes, the flipboard app can be removed as well as other apps. The worst thing that will happen if something does get removed and it was necessary for another app/service to function, it will force closes and your device may become unresponsive. A factory reset or hard factory reset will resolve any errors.
Keen to try this
Thanks very much for sharing these. Immersive mode all the way, YEAH!

Just ordered my first Samsung device. I have used Nexus and pixel for so many years. Just decided to switch it up completely. Doesn't look like US version is rootable so I'll try this to debloat. Do I need to run for each individual app? Or is there a way to batch uninstall the bloat? Thanks
Individual apps through cmd on your PC or you can purchase the package disabler from the play store (which I don't really know why you would whereas you can do it on the pc) that is complicated to use

Yes, that's normal, because this method doesn't delete apps. It just hides them(the ones that you can't disable) from the system. You can't just remove system apps without root.

I use an app called granular for this, which also lets you set for all the apps too, which gets rid of the slight delay if you leave it with the samsung default.

Download an app called "package list" and use it to locate Samsung cloud and remove it with CMD. I've removed every Bixby related crap and it didn't break anything. If anything happens, you can always back up your phone to an sd card through smart switch then do a factory reset through recovery.

Anyone know if the Camera app can be prevented from starting on boot? (Perhaps a little contrary to the spirit of the camera, but I use it more for development than for taking pictures, and I don't like the lens motor wasting its time and wearing out its parts). Does it use the "normal" autostart mechanisms that might be disabled by something like Gemini App Manager, or is the camera start up built specially into the guts of the android version on this thing?
Don't know about the details, but enabling the screen lock (swipe to unlock) in settings stops the camera from starting when waking the device with the power button (doesn't stop the start after boot though).

Well, it stops the lens cranking out immediately on power up, but as soon as you do swipe the screen, you are in the camera app and the lens pops out. I'm looking to avoid the camera app completely. I guess if I get up the nerve to root this thing, I can try out an app manager and see if I can disable it on boot, but I'd hate to do unnatural things to the camera and then find out it didn't do any good .
If you are on the home screen when you switch off it will not open into the Camera app.

That depnds on how "off" is is. Once the suspend or hibernate or whatever it is expires and it goes "fully" off, it always starts in the camera.
Are you sure you really turned it off when it went to your homescreen without starting the camera app?
When starting from fast-startup or on a clean boot it will always start the camera app.
The only time it doesn't is if you had it in standby.
A work around is to use this app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.notificationToggle
Use it to set links to your favorite applications.
When you boot to the lock screen pull down the notification bar, select the app you want, then swipe to unlock and it will open in the app you selected.
Of course it would be much easier if Samsung had simply enabled lock screen shortcuts

It would be really nice to disable the camera on boot. It would also be nice to get rid of this stupid mesage:
"SD card inserted. Change storage location to SD card?"
I thought there was a thread for that, but can't find it now.

I only started to get this message since the new update, it appears as though the SD card doesn't get initiated before the camera app loads and in turn thinks you've inserted a new card, when it finally does get loaded. Either they need to put a delay in place or somehow not load the camera app until it's established whether there is a card installed or not.
Disable the BOOT_COMPLETE permission in the camera app but make sure something else has it or you boot to a blank screen.
how can we disable a permission ?

The app that I should change permission is com.sec.android.app.camera , right ?

so ?

Please see this thread by a recognized developer i met over on the LG V20 side of things,
Went ahead and tested it against the note 8 without root, you do have to send 3 strings ( Now just 1 set! )of commands via ADB to get it working but this is a one time thing.
This is practically the UITuner android builds into their software and the OEMs seem to kill it for whatever reason. Go to to his thread to check it out and show him some love and thanks. The app is available for free in the google play-store as well.
Practically can be done by a toddler as long as you follow the steps the app asks you to do! Very Simple and super useful!

Have you found anything this cannot do yet? Meaning, from the screenshots on the Play Store, it says some status bar icons cannot be disabled by Samsung phones, have you found that to be true on the Note8 yet? I have the phone but I haven't installed this yet, was looking for a solid solution to removing the useless NFC icon that Samsung always displays, as well as a way to change the awful Bluetooth icon to the AOSP (or as similar as possible) version.
Thanks!
I'm with you man... I hate having the alarm icon on all the time. I know, I know... I ALWAYS have an alarm set!
My note8 doesn't show NFC icon or alarm icon. I use timely so maybe that's why it does show up when I have pending alarms coming up or snoozed iirc. Sprint n8 if that matters

I've noticed that there is no G-Mail notification badge. Is anyone using the STOCK Samsung launcher notice this?
---Also, PLEASE, before you make suggestions-- I am aware of Nova Launcher and Telsa Unread and every other launcher that supports notification badges---at this point in time I do not wish to use any of those launchers, I want to give Samsung's Launcher a try. Check the Galaxy Store application. Go into it's settings and enable notifications for app updates and also look at your "My Page" and you will see the "Update" section which will list all of your pre-installed Samsung apps that have available updates. The "All" section is all of your apps installed from the Galaxy Store.

Step in the right direction, but you are forced to enable the single press of the button (either to bixby or app action) and this is not good as it will lead to unwanted app/bixby launches.

Hi,
Is there a way I can remap the Bixby Key to toggle b/w silent & loud on off screen?
I dont know what I did wrong but I cannot disable those annoying suggestions in settings.
I have another 2 devices with Android 10 as well, they either have a three dots option to dismiss them or have a cross button for fast dismiss.

And more important thing is, the suggestions have minor delays after open the setting app. You will easily click the wrong options after they pop up.

It's a bug of the device. I suppose it'll be fixed in the next update. Now it's nearly impossible to disable them

It's ROM dependent.
Either someone implemented a possibility to disable them, or noone did and you can't.
And there are many great ROMs out there for our device. For me there's no reason to stick to one and complain about it.

Ikr, but it's Android one device, the official rom should not be compared with 3rd party builds.
I mean not this kind of stupidity.

it's easy. go to apps in settings, show all apps, show system (dots menu top right), search for settings suggestions, goto storage for it and clear all data.
will come back after a while but just repeat the process.
If you are root, you can disable / freeze.
Well, after few tests, I can safe to say
Freeze 'setting suggestion' app is the right option you can use without a computer, however it requires root.
If you don't have root, use adb pm uninstall --user 0 to debloat it.
Clean storage and cache of that app cannot solve it permanently. It almost pop up again right after you back to the main page.
Still, it leaves a large blank space there. But ui looks stable now

If i uninstall it (com.android.settings.intelligence), the suggestions are away but the field to search in the settings is also gone ... this is the large blank space.
