Light leak on Note 9 512GB blue special edition - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

On a 512gb Blue special edition bought in Hong Kong
Please ignore the Chinese.... Here's the image
https://ibb.co/c76Tze
https://ibb.co/kHjnsz
Can see even with case on , UAG plasma case
Doesn't look that bad but still... It cost 10k hong Kong dollar
What to do..

return to shop, ask for replacement

In my country where Samsung placed factory, users reported this problem then Samsung said: it is a feature of curve Amoled display, don't worry )

dont buy Chinese, buy Korean

A feature huh... The real edge light it is? :cyclops: I am going for a exchange after work , hopefully they will let me.

ask to see other models to check if they all have it or not

It's just going to happen again anyway. Light bleed will eventually return as you use the device. There's nothing wrong with the device man.

I have just left the service center, they said they will need to check to see if its vaild for replacement or not. They initial try NOT to acknowledge the issue and said they couldn't see it. Will see what they have to say in 45min. I am very disappointed how Samsung treat me as a customer who bought their highest tier note 9 and note 8 previously. If they don't give me a replacement I am going to sell it via eBay and get a iPhone after 12th conference. Not happy about it !
BTW here is an article about the issue https://www.google.com.hk/amp/s/wccftech.com/galaxy-note-9-light-leak-issue/amp/

this still going from the s6 edge its impossible for light leak from an oled display its the characteristic of oled curved display

My s7e is perfectly fine too. It's absurd someone to be ok with compromises in 1000/1250 euro phone! No excuses in that price range, it's samsung problem the rushed first batches of as many devices as they can! Not yours as a customer that pays so much money for a phone to be faced with constructive defect and then decline an exchange.
OP, can't you just use the law to return the phone in 7 (14 in some countries) days?

Lucky you. Just got my phone back from Samsung customer case and they ask me to believe its completely normal, which is not in my opinion. The 512gb is around 1400USD or so. (bought it in hong kong HKD9798)

return it as fast as you can then. but a nice thin case like the seidio surface might be a good alternative if you want to keep it.( case should hug the phone right up to the edges)
a good permanent marker doesn't stink or rub off once its full dry...

Sharpie stinks. But I don't have light bleed so I'm not sweating it. Just seems like if you spend that much on a device it shouldnt be a fixer upper.

Just received S6 Edge - AMA

Just got my shiny new 128gb AT&T S6 Edge. Have a couple of hours to kill - feel free to ask me stuff!
I've got mine, but I'm curious does your front screen have scratch swirls all of it when you are in light?
Mine is scratched to hell on the front.
Any chance you want to attempt using CF-autoroot just in case Samsung ignored AT&T's request to lock? Figured I'd ask, despite the fact that there's virtually no chance.

No, none at all thankfully - posted some images on the scratch thread, seems picture perfect to me under all lighting conditions I've put it under so far!

I received my black/128 today as well. Not a scratch in sight. So far loving it but still notice signs of lag. Coming from Moto X 2nd gen and HTC M9. However, it is far less than S5 and is worth it to have a great overall phone with superb camera (M9 was aweful)
How is the battery ? Could you post some pictures?

Well I don't blame you, the 128gb on ATT is frankly outrageously expensive.
My 128gb looks perfect.
How bad is the att bloat? Also did it come in Samsung packaging or the att boxes they have been doing in the past?
Mine appears to be just a regular Samsung box, not specifically AT&T. Also, mine doesn't have any scratches or swirls, I have the 128GB white. It's immaculate.

I've always been partial to the white phones. I'm not too keen on all the different colors. A crystal clear thinnest case available and white is my favorite. The new colors the have though are pretty nice. You'll be very happy with whatever you decide to get.

Samsung pay
Just got my White 32gb S6 edge..Not a scratch in sight! Wanted to ask you guys if you'll have heard anything about the samsung pay. The samsung rep from best buy told me sometime this summer and the live chat on the samsung website told me that its available on the S6 but not yet on the S6 Edge which doesn't make any sense!
For those of you who already have one, how does it feel to hold with the curved screen? It seems sexy as hell but I feel like it's really easy to accidentally touch the sides of the screen

It is sexy as hell! And actually only find the edges easier to grip and less slippy than the S6. So far I haven't had issues with accidental touches, and it makes swiping in side menus actually a pleasure. Some apps are also emerging that make the most of the curves which is even cooler.
ok
ok.....
Can't wait to get it!
Played with one in Costco, and I must say, just amazing! The screen is even better than my note 4, which is saying a lot! And the curves look sexy as hell! Mine will b off contract though, so I will more than likely end up getting the 64gb.
U guys should post some pics......

Do you have the same defect I have on my screen? :(

Mine has it... Does yours? I wish I didnt see this but there is definitely a defect there....

No such issue on my Midnight Black Note 9 (N960F Exynos, 512 GB). Never had any on my Note 8 either or the Samsung flagships I owned before that in the last 4 years.

It's light bleed. Check this thread out in the Note 8 section. I'm not sure if Samsung will cover it under warranty so your best bet is to try and return it for another and hope it isn't any worse. My Note 8 has it some and my son's dose not but a case easily covers it. I'm praying and hoping my 9 arriving today is perfect. Either way from reading it dose not affect the water proofing but is annoying for such a expensive phone. I wish you luck.
It does not bother me too much. Rarely are you concentrating on one side of the phone. I think most have this but they don't know exactly what they are looking for which is a good thing. Only at night you can notice it
No bleeding on my phone. Sprint blue.

Only a few of them will have light bleed. It's only visible during dark room conditions. I wouldn't even call it a defect much less an issue unless you bareback your phone. Fortunately, having lightbleed doesn't mean that the device isn't sealed, it just means the painting on the phone isnt dark enough at those parts you see the light.
I'm happy to report back I have no light bleed or any other problems so far with mine. Just got it 10 mins ago.. time to play.
No
I've got 2 Note 9's from AT&T (from Sam's club) and neither have the defect. Looks like the case is not sealed all the way. May be easy to cover up?
Just so you guys know, it may occur either way in the future as your device ages. Whether it be from heat or cold, but it will happen. Your device waterproofing shouldn't be compromised though.
I really believe it affects almost all devices but people don't notice. Even if you kinda know what to look for it's hard to see. But the problem is once you see it it is very hard to unsee it....

I've handed my phone to 8 people in the past 2 days and only 1 of those people could see the light at the leak. It blew my mind. I would show them exactly where to look, and they still could not see it. Then they walk off shaking their heads like they think I'm crazy. My phone leaks on both sides in 4 spots. I've attached a photo of the worst spot at about 30% brightness.
Ohhh your is on the right side... Mine is in the left

Note 9 Lightbleed issues!

So I upgraded from my Note8 and found that the 9 has some pretty bad light bleeding. It's symmetrical on both left and right, at the bottom and top part of the screen edges.
Not sure if I wanna get a replacement but you can even see it in broad daylight if you angle it correctly. It's quite annoying tbh.
Aside from that I love the phone.
Anyone had such issues yet?
Go return it and ask for a new one. My Note 9 has no lightbleed at all

I have a minimalistic case on it but that doesn't hide it. I don't like covering the sides that much, makes the curved design obsolete.
Wow. Another person that had to start his own thread when there are others on same issue here.

Unfortunately, Samsung is not accepting that the screen is defective.
My N9 was two times in service, I spoke with Samsung's support via email and phone, still nothing.
"That is the feature of curved display" they say.
Thats ****talk, I say.
When my phone arrive again, I will go directly to the import company to complain there.
I have a bit of it, one of the first-batch Exynos 128/6 units I guess. Not a huge deal for me, my Xperia Z5 came back from repair with a larger gap, the repairman said he couldn't get it to fit without damaging the panel as the frame was warped... lol
but I do wonder how water-resistant it will be...
Oh, wow. I also have it on my N9. Looks exactly the same as on my N8. But, like most of us, I put a case on my phone. I never rock it without a case. Just strange that this continues to be an issue. Makes the phone look a bit defective. Some cosmetic issues like this can do that. Make it look a bit cheap.

midnight black and cloud silver available soon in the US

Who else is pissed that they settled for the piss yellow pen? As soon as I received my 512 GB version Samsung decided to pull this 'apple like' move.
I jumped the gun due to the tmobile 500 dollar credit so ill probably just end up selling the note 9 for around 600-900 dollars.
I would refund to tmobile but not sure how they would handle my trade in (note 5)

I go back and forth between the armor suit and the phantom skinz. Armor Suit fits better but the spen marks stay a long time. The phantomskinz is the best feel, but everytime I put a spigen case on, it peels up on the bottom edges. Wish they would cut it just a hair smaller and they would have the best screen protector out there. Still, I would say give phantom skinz a try, cause spen works great on it.

Who cares what color the pen is? It's insane to get all worked up about it that you are willing to dump the phone to get a different color.

You can tell it was dropped or hit by something. In the sub Reddit thread, someone even pointed out that you could see the impact and when I looked closer at the picture and zoomed in, I could see it also.
I read that post yesterday and was shaking my head. OP: "I woke up and it was like this???" And the top comment seems to agree it could have happened spontaneously. This of course is only possible on reddit.
Why OnePlus used glass black in a phone without wireless charge? Unless the 7 Pro T comes with it so they will use same glass back.

I don't understand what these people are doing to their phones, I've had 6 phones now and not one has ever been damaged like that, my Nexus 4's battery inflated like a balloon eventually but I was able to replace it. Btw ,today going to work i had my phone in between the car seats in a cup holder and i slammed on brakes ,phone flu hitting gear stick and landing on the floor . Nothing happened,i had the case provided in the box.

Probably passed out on a bench after a late night outing and the phone fell on the pavement / tar road. Only on reddit. Everything is possible.

I've had the paint off mine come off on a little spot below the alert slider.
Do you think this is some sort of manufacture defect or just my own carelessness?
I have been using the phone with the case (the one includes in the box) since the very beginning.
Although the case doesn't cover that part, I don't see how I could have caused the paint to come off. If it's just due to some light scratching due to my nails when using the alert slider then I'd be quite disappointed with the durability of the frame, especially since it's made of aluminium.
