A handful of posters that do not have the phone , posting on a thread of a phone that clearly was hit or dropped. It comes with a case. Tmo offers casemate for $20.

Exactly. This is more an example of vocal idiots than any kind of issue with the phone.

You can tell it was dropped or hit by something. In the sub Reddit thread, someone even pointed out that you could see the impact and when I looked closer at the picture and zoomed in, I could see it also.

I read that post yesterday and was shaking my head. OP: "I woke up and it was like this???" And the top comment seems to agree it could have happened spontaneously. This of course is only possible on reddit.

Why OnePlus used glass black in a phone without wireless charge? Unless the 7 Pro T comes with it so they will use same glass back.

Hell I could see the impact without zooming in, looks like a sharp edge. If he really doesn't remember it he probably drank and ran into a counter.

I don't understand what these people are doing to their phones, I've had 6 phones now and not one has ever been damaged like that, my Nexus 4's battery inflated like a balloon eventually but I was able to replace it. When I hand on my phones after replacing them they've always been in mint condition. Screen protector and a good protective case, that's all you need. I think it's just the iPhone mentality..."Nah, it spoils the looks bruh"

This is hilarious, the guy is hangover for sure, any glass phone won't break itself that bad, he surely hit something while phone was in hos pocket or he dropped it.
Btw ,today going to work i had my phone in between the car seats in a cup holder and i slammed on brakes ,phone flu hitting gear stick and landing on the floor . Nothing happened,i had the case provided in the box.

he woke and it was like that because he dropped it while he was sleeping. He just left out a few key details.

Probably passed out on a bench after a late night outing and the phone fell on the pavement / tar road. Only on reddit. Everything is possible.

7 Pro! ...and yes, definitely worth it if you passed the 6/6T. The UFS 3.0 alone is worth it. Startup time is stupidly quick.

I upgraded from 1+5 to 1+7 Pro. This was definitely worth it and I bet it's the same for an upgrade to 1+7!

My 7 pro just arrived. Coming from 5. Hope it's worth it.

I've had the paint off mine come off on a little spot below the alert slider.
Do you think this is some sort of manufacture defect or just my own carelessness?
I have been using the phone with the case (the one includes in the box) since the very beginning.
Although the case doesn't cover that part, I don't see how I could have caused the paint to come off. If it's just due to some light scratching due to my nails when using the alert slider then I'd be quite disappointed with the durability of the frame, especially since it's made of aluminium.

Already dented my N5

Thats right folks, the out edge of this that lies around the screen is very, very brittle and thin. I have never dropped the phone and it has been in my spigen leather pouch for my old nexus since I bought it, no idea how it got dented, and its only very slight without scratches but it is definitely there.. just a forewarning.

Strange. The Cruzerlite (which are thin TPU cases, cheap in my opinion) drop test stood up to NUMEROUS drops & the device survived without any sign of damage. Not a scratch or dent.
Is you device white or black? My old Nexus 10 had a defect in the black soft touch coating that looked like a dent, but it was more likely an issue in the molding or application process.

Mine is the white version, but the dent is on the top right above the camera, on the black portion, right where the side casing touches the glass. I would have a very hard time photographing this because of where it is on the phone/lighting etc.. ill try when I get home though.

I have about 5 or so nicks on the sides where the glass and plastic edge meet on my naked white N5. I agree that the plastic used is pretty brittle but it's not noticeable unless you really look for it.

Get a sufficient case otherwise you can't really complain...
I have one little mark or nick as well where the plastic case meets the glass on that tiny little lip. My 2 year old got a hold of my phone and dropped it on a metal external hard drive case the day I got it and it landed right on 90 degree edge of the case... I went temporarily insane. It is very small but kind of surprised me I guess. I dropped my galaxy S3 many times and never got more than the little hairline scratches you see in glossy plastic. That soft touch coating seems to have some give to it. It was my fault. My parents gave my kids a new ipad mini and I set my phone on top of it. I was in the other room and heard him say "new tablet". I knew at that moment the mistake I had made...
I have one of those really slim cases on the way which would have prevented it. I typically don't use cases and am usually not bothered by the small marks I get on my phones but because some of those ultra thin cases are so slim now days I am going to try one out. Marking up a brand new phone is a little different than one that's a year+ old...
I too, also have a slight dent under the screen bezel part of mine. I have never dropped mine. Noticed it while it was on the table; that the reflection of the curtain was slightly bent at the one area, instead of being completely straight. Looked closely, and sure enough, there was a dent. It's not noticeable during day-to-day use, but you CAN notice it if looking at the reflection it shows.
The chrome bezel on the nexus 4 was susceptible to dents as well.
A few weeks ago the Nexus 5 flew out of my hands and landed on our concrete driveway. I feared the worst, but only a small dent in the upper left corner of the back panel and some scratching is all that happened. Lucky me, but I still hate it. Never had a single blemish on the Nexus 4.

The sides of this phone are fine, besides the fact that they collect dust like crazy. The screen, however, is not. Another guy posting on Android Central also reported having a dent, similar to mine. I actually think this dent came with my device. I noticed it a couple of weeks ago, but disregarded it, as I thought it was the screen protector that came with the phone, but I decided to remove it and check again. It IS a part of the screen

Normal? How is a dent on the screen normal? My Nexus 10 does not have this, my old Samsung Vibrant does not have this. Why would a dent on a Nexus 5 be normal?

I would say it's normal because of the following reasons:
1) it doesn't effect the usage of the device in any way
2) it's barely noticeable even in the "perfect" lighting conditions
3) many have reported the exact same thing in the early tempered glass threads; the only time it has ever come up or been noticed.
So why exactly is it a problem for you? Corners were cut to make this phone at a cheap price I would think that's pretty clear. It's also not the screen itself but around it.
Dented
In my N5 have no dent and any scratch..
I love with my N5

There's a difference between "corners being cut" to make the device cheaper and really poor quality control. I understand them using a less camera module and a lower capacity battery, and a screen that washes out when tilted, etc, but the numerous issues with the hardware is ridiculous. Dents in screen, poor GPS connectivity, Wi-Fi problems, dust under screen, loose vibration motor, rattling buttons, and so on.
There is no reason for hardware bugs like this. To lower the price, lesser powerful hardware is used, but the low price is no excuse for poor quality. Like some users said, in terms of hardware, this device is like an alpha, and the only way to receive the "perfect" device is to continuously RMA.
We paid for the device, we should not be getting so many faults and issues.

How is it even a defect? It's not even noticeable. No one would consider it a hardware bug except apparently you. Please explain how this effects the usage of your device in any way.
Poor quality control is EXACTLY how corners are cut. Manufacturing anything has margin of errors and the less margin of error you're willing to release the more phones are "thrown away" and the more money a released device will cost. I'd explain more but I'm sure Wikipedia or a Google search can better explain the finer points of manufacturing and quality control then I can.
You read the specs of the phone and it has everything a $700 phone has but it costs $400. How did you think that was accomplished?

There is a lot of discussion about that price... but Google routinely undercuts the competition when it comes to the nexus line (looking at you, 7)
Looking at the specs of the 5, then looking at comparable phones out ing the market, the only conclusion I can come to is that Google is letting these things go at either zero margin, or (my thought) at a fairly beefy loss.... kicking back cash to LG to cover their losses.
All you need to do is look at the other phones available at the same full retail price... does the 5 seem anywhere close to those? Nope, it blows them all out of the water... laughable in most cases. Now, you can cut corners to lower prices, but you can't cut THAT much.

The actual cost break down might never be known. One thing is for sure though, LG is not willing to take any loss and whatever Google may have paid them "extra" they will still try and build the phone as cheap as they possibly can.
LG does not consider the Nexus as their flagship phone and will never treat it as such. It's a phone they were contracted to build and they will cut every corner they can. It's just business.

Replacement back for Mix?

Hi All,
Has anyone been able to track down somewhere that is selling a replacement back for the Mix? Mine is scratched quite heavily (likely from using a fairly tight sleeve) and I would really like to replace it....Or for any poor soul out there who has damaged their Mix and would like to sell the back. The irony is the sides of the phone are pristine and not a scratch, not so much on the back.
Thanks in advance

You are wrong. It is made in China.Enough said.Looks good but who cares about quailty. It is NOT CERAMIC but made to looks like it.
I had it and my suggestion is save money for Galaxy S8+ or something more valuable.
I had to take the pictures with my Galaxy tablet so not the best quality but you get the picture. This is with normal day to day use as well, nothing extreme. I even had the Best Buy film on the back for a few months but got tired of the sharp edges from the film every time i unlocked with the finger print sensor. I am wondering if the chemicals from the glue combined with peeling of the film stripped some of the finish somehow as this is supposed to be so scratch resistant. Maybe just one with a faulty finish.

Sorry, I am not sure what your point is. I am certainly not making it up as per the pictures. I was only asking if anyone had seen the replacement backs anywhere. I absolutely love his phone but have been disappointed how much is has scratched on the back, not questioning the online videos etc.
By the way, what was the purpose of your post? If you have nothing to contribute to solving the question at hand why say anything?

Suppose my point was because of shortage of the ceramic maybe they sent some out with different materials.
Mine is just fine after a while of use, both in and out of a protective case, side note mine also doesn't have the "cottage" cheese looking blemishes yours seems to have in the pictures. Its possible to have received a "repaired" one instead of a legit one ... especially if it came from a reseller. There are mentions of this on the xiaomi reddit and other places. its extremely scratch resistant, as much so as any Samsung or other device out there that I have dealt with [and I do service work on phones so I have seen plenty of damaged devices - HUGE number of sub standard Samsung's btw - for the value guy ]
Good luck on finding a part supplier, you MAY find one on Aliexpress ... but there more than likely not going to be genuine parts. Vopmart.com

Luphie Tempered Glass and Metal Galaxy Note 8 Bumper Case

Here's a very nice metal bumpercase I've bought at AliExpress. It looks outstanding, offers a decent protection level and the manucaturing quality is on a very high level. Signal quality is perfect like the manufacturer promises. The case is available in serveral color, black, gold, blue, etc. It is offered for a very reasonable price around 15€.

Do you have pics of your phone in the case rather than marketing images?
just wanna make sure your not advertising for them
The last time i used a Luphie case (similar to this) was on my Note 4 and it was terrible.
Looked great on my note 4!
but
1. effected signal badly
2. poor build quality (the lock mechanism was loose and only got looser as time went on)
3. the back glass cracked extremely easily, i didnt even drop it one day i took it out my pocket and it was cracked.
once it cracked it destroyed the only thing it had going for it (the looks) was dissapointed!
if they have fixed all these issues then it looks pretty nice

How tight fit is this bumper and back glass? I had on the patchworks level ITG case on mine, dropped from a 3ft bathroom sink, landed in the corner and cracked the screen even with the tempered glass on! I could not use the phone for a week until I realized the display was separated from the gorilla glass panel so I pried it up so it can "glue" back. Thank god I got Square trade warranty.
I have yet to find a good case to protect it since. My guess was the more tight fit the case, there is less room for shock absorption so it goes straight to the phone itself.

Well the phone is not moving around within the case. But the inside of the aluminium frame and the metal frame of the tempered glass back are covered with a foam material. That's necessary to not scratch our Note 8 for sure and it should prevent the phone from being broken if it drops. Anyway this is not a hardcore drop survivor case like the UAG cases are, i think. I've already searched for a drop test, but wirhout success. There are some aluframe test, but not for one of these.
If the community donates me another Note 8 i'll try that for you guys for sure
The Mi Mix i have owned was covered by a Luphie metal bumper having the same material inside. It dropped once out of the carmount between seat and middle console onto the metal mount of the Recaros. Just a tiny mark on the metal frame, but nothing happened to the phone! The corner it dropped onto, perfect condition. Remember, the Mix is ceramic! These frames definitly offer a decent protection. It's for sure a high quality aluminium.

As you can see on the pictures of my phone (last two attached pictures), yes. The rebranded one Zizo offers has a Zizo Text and the bottom text. The top one is missing if i remember right. Well, if you don't like the writing, don't buy this case.
My mother droptested it for me in the meantime. From the wireless charger, around 75cm height, onto a wood floor. Well, everything fine, no scratches, simply zero damage.

@Mr.Ash.Man
Especially for you. Added two pictures showing my device with one of your custom AOD backgrounds.

Nice case! Just cancelled mine after heaeing feedbacks on the GPS glitch when used with this case on. I wonder if you've experienced that? Especially, when inside the car?

Note 9 Lightbleed issues!

So I upgraded from my Note8 and found that the 9 has some pretty bad light bleeding. It's symmetrical on both left and right, at the bottom and top part of the screen edges.
Not sure if I wanna get a replacement but you can even see it in broad daylight if you angle it correctly. It's quite annoying tbh.
Aside from that I love the phone.
Anyone had such issues yet?
Go return it and ask for a new one. My Note 9 has no lightbleed at all

I have the same problem. Putting on a cover should fix it. Waiting for a black cover to arrive tomorrow.

I have a minimalistic case on it but that doesn't hide it. I don't like covering the sides that much, makes the curved design obsolete.
Wow. Another person that had to start his own thread when there are others on same issue here.

no idea why you would spend $1k on a phone and then refuse to return it when it's obviously defective.

Unfortunately, Samsung is not accepting that the screen is defective.
My N9 was two times in service, I spoke with Samsung's support via email and phone, still nothing.
"That is the feature of curved display" they say.
Thats ****talk, I say.
When my phone arrive again, I will go directly to the import company to complain there.
I have a bit of it, one of the first-batch Exynos 128/6 units I guess. Not a huge deal for me, my Xperia Z5 came back from repair with a larger gap, the repairman said he couldn't get it to fit without damaging the panel as the frame was warped... lol
but I do wonder how water-resistant it will be...
Oh, wow. I also have it on my N9. Looks exactly the same as on my N8. But, like most of us, I put a case on my phone. I never rock it without a case. Just strange that this continues to be an issue. Makes the phone look a bit defective. Some cosmetic issues like this can do that. Make it look a bit cheap.

Question Pixel 5a coating worn out. Google refused replacement.

Only used it for a couple of days. The coating on the right side is already worn out. There is no damage at all (any kinds).
I have contacted Google though Chat on the website. I was told "this is cosmetic damage, it shouldn't affect the device functionality". They will not issue a replacement.
This is probably my last Google purchase for a while. Do your Pixel 5as have the similar problem?
due to the nature of the covering it is susceptible to discoloration. try cleaning it with a quality cleaning agent on a soft cloth. a mild bleach water solution, or something similar.

I don't know whether it would deteriorate or not.
If we all choose to be 'nice' customers to big corporations, they may never improve their QC or manufacturing, don’t you think?
When I wet my phone with 75% rubbing alcohol to clean it I can definitely see the grips from the machine that was holding the case to transport it through the coating solution. Pictures below. There are some circles and straight lines, which to me look like marks from the gripper. They are not visible when the case is dry.
There are two areas on mine that are somewhat shiny and look like grease. I tried to return it but was told I can only get a refurbished phone. The other option is to return it entirely and order a new one. However, I found out that they charge you a $30 restocking fee.
For now I can live with it. It's definitely a manufacturing issue with their coating process that leaves us customers unsatisfied. I think the coating is fine, it's just not uniform.
jlduan, if you look at the second image you can see the same lines you observe, even with it's double line.
In summary, I believe this has more to do with the coating process than the battery.
cheers

Thanks for the photos. I just wiped mine with water. I don't have those circles. I really hope it is just the coating, not some consistent heat distribution problem.

yeah, even in yours you can tell it's the coating. Wetting is affected by the direction and the very coating roughness.
You do have one of the circles though towards the left of your fingerprint reader.
cheers
PS: seeing that the battery cover is available for the Pixel 5 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/1541683815...1291&msclkid=f3019a2da8fd19bc6aedfb1235325eb1), there will likely be some available for the 5a in the future to change it or even to change the color. I like to tinker...
PSS: actually aliexpress already has it

If you don't mind ruining your waterproof rating, I guess this works as a potential solution. I'm not sure what coating is being discussed in this thread, but if they apply some chemical (maybe oleophobic coating) then you're not going to have that on a replacement back.

of course that will go out the window. The coating is a thin polymeric coat on top of aluminum.
Not to be rude, but this seems like a petty complaint. You really should get a case anyway. Problem solved.

A $450 device shouldn't be discoloring itself in less than a month of use.
I remember $400 on a Nexus 5 for my wife back in 2013 and I was impressed with what I got for the price. Back then, flagship phones didn't really exist like they do now. People need to realize manufacturers are going to cut corners to keep prices down with what average person can actually afford. Considering the $450 I spent on my Pixel 5a I am extremely impressed with the build quality. Even still, a Spigen case was ordered and put on the phone immediately after I removed it from the box. Anyone that wants a pretty phone with glass or aluminum to show off without using a protective case should probably buy another phone? I bought the 5a mainly for the software experience.
Mine has the same color issue I noticed it the first day in sun. I'm have a black moss google case due any day now. I was wondering if it was just my pixel changing color. I wiped it off and it disappears for a bit then comes back. I'm not sure why they are that way.
Will this phone has coating chipped out like Pixel 5 ?
(not my photo.)
I think the coating on the 5a is a new process not done on prior Pixels as far as I understand. You might still get scratches, but I don't think it will flake off like in the picture. It's very thin polymer coat fused with the Aluminum.

The device has a plastic-coated back. This is not a flagship glass back or aluminum/metal phone. Yes, plastic, even plastic coatings, will show wear, it will scratch. You bought a budget device, this is one of the drawbacks you have to live with. I'd go even as far as to say be happy it is actually an aluminum back with a plastic coating instead of straight up plastic. Putting it in your pocket will show wear on plastic just from the friction of sliding it in and out of your pocket.

These days a $450 device is a budget to midrange phone. Your comment makes it seem like it is a $1k flagship which needs to have zero imperfections.

The Nexus 5 was a plastic back phone. I still have one in a drawer somewhere. This one has an aluminum back with plastic coating. I would say the Pixel 5A is just as good of a deal if not better. Especially if you account for inflation. As for flagships, yes they were definitely a thing then. That was exactly the time the flagship killer came out, the OnePlus One. It was marketed as the flagship killer. And... For $350 it was plastic backed and had zero water resistance.... Just like the Nexus 5. Lets not forget that both of these devices did not even have stereo speakers.
I don't want to defend Google, a giant, super rich corporation, but come on people, have some common sense. This isn't a Pixel 6. You bought it because it was relatively cheap for decent hardware and great software support. The back is plastic coated, that will wear of super duper easy no matter what and that should have been super obvious. Get a case. Stop caring about superficial imperfections and enjoy your phone for what it is, a good, affordable phone with good specs and great software.
Cheesethief, this is not wear though. It's a manufacturing inconsistency. I get your point.

It was more in reply to the OP who said his issue appeared after a few days of use. A few days is all it takes for plastic I see your point about manufacturing defects/inconsistencies too though.
