Problems restoring backup via update.zip and Twrp - Lenovo Zuk Z2 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello,
made a backup from my Honor 5x with actual version of Titanium backup. Stored it as update.zip. After moving this update.zip to my Zuk 2 Pro, I tried to restore it via Twrp actual version. It seems to work, but when finished, I don't find any app from the backup on the Zuk 2 Pro.
On the Honor 5x I use Lineage OS 14.1, on the Zuk2 Pro the AospExtended v6.0 Alpha.
What's wrong?
Regards
Robert

Why are you trying to restore Titanium backup by twrp? That does not make sense. Install TB and try restoring backup.

Today I tried it once more. The same problem. Seems that Twrp ist restoring the apps from the update.zip I have created on the Honor 5x, but after finishing nothing happened. Is it possible that there is a diffent file-structure on the Zuk2?
Regards Robert

You have failed to answer my question again. Why are you restoring through twrp instead of Titanium Backup if you have done backup in TB?

Because that's, ostensibly, the point of using TB's "create update.zip" feature; to roll all the apps into a single recovery-installable zip.
But yeah, since that's not working, I'd probably just do a normal TB backup and copy the folder to laptop and to Z2 Pro internal storage then try to restore stuff after rooting and getting TB installed.

ok, finally I restored the backup as described by Terminator.J. I think the answer to the question why I tried to use update.zip and Twrp is easy. If it would work it's the quickest and most easy way to restore. Do other guys have the problem with update.zip too?

Yes, I have tried using update.zip (made from just a couple of troublesome apps). It appears to flash correctly in TWRP, but after rebooting the apps are not there. I think this feature must be broken in Android 8.1. To make things worse, the support page on Titanium Track's website isn't working either .

[Q] incomplete nandroid restore

hey,
i restored my nandroid backup from the newest nightly to an older backup, because my gapps didn't stay after the flash.
sadly the restore left some applications, even though i still got plenty of space on my sd card, what could've caused this? i do have titanium backups, but i'd rather restore my complete backup state, than fiddling and trying to remember which stuff is missing. furthermore titanium does restore the application, but not the data, it stays stuck on the restore progress notification, downloading the busybox from titanium didn't help either
i'd be very grateful for help

Are you using CWM 3.0?
Try reverting to an older CWM version our Amon Ra.
As for gapps not sticking, which gapps you using and which rom?
Look for temasek's 20110507 gapps.

[Q] Restore miui backup in CM7

Now i'm in miui rom, but i want to install cm7 or stock rom.
There is any way to restore a backup done with mini backup in another rom different from miui?
Titanium Backup?
Yes, but the problem of titanium backup is that when you are restoring the backup you ned to install manually the apps, and miui backup does it automatically.
Titanium had a batch option, so you can just tell it to restore and then let it do it's work...
actually it may break your system if you restore system settings onto another version of Android.

well, i used to have stock FRG83d(Froyo) on Nexus one. Then i tried flashing CM 7.0.3 and used it to recovery settings. i can recovery anything but system settings. If I restore system settings and reboot, the laucher will suffer from a FC loop.

[Q] Recommended CWM

Hi,
I wipe my device yesterday to make a fresh install because my o2x has gotten laggy for the past few weeks, I made a titanium backup + CWM backup.
Sadly, some of my apps Data was not backed up for some reason, although the app is able to be restored by titanium, but no previous data backup. The most important apps for me, the LG Memo app and color notes which both i use to record memo. Now lost.
Then i tried to restore from CWM which supposed to be last resort, and it failed to restore halfway through the SYSTEM partition. So now i am totally lost.
This is my second time in a few months cwm failed to make a proper backup (i rarely use it anyway), and the sad thing is i will not know that it is a bad backup until i tried to restore it to see it fails.
So my question is, is there a recommended version of CWM i should use? I flashed my cwm from rom manager, i think it is version 4.0.2.0.
Secondly, is there a way to extract and restore my app + data from raw cwm backup?
Thanks.
Current cwm version is 5.0.2.8. I have installed it directly and never experienced a problem.
I think that you can manually extract your app and push it to your phone.
It's not much of the app itself, but the DATA that is associated with the app. Like i said, the LG Memo i can just get back by reinstalling the rom, but the memos i saved for the past year or so is what i want to get back.
I am daily user of cwm instaled thry RomMenager and it works perfectly. You can try application Appextractor to extract app from your cwm backup
You can also try restoring your /data partition only. CWM has an option to selectively restore parts of your backup. That way you can get your info back.
Sent using some sticks and gum, just as McGyver would

You can't restore a back from one device to another. Boot to recovery and do a full factory reset. You'll have to set it up as a new device.
This is triggered by the phone application or sim card application. Can you get into bootloader or twrp?
thank you !
but it's the same phone, just the screen is new
And I have access to twrp and the bootloader of course

Have you tried a factory reset in recovery, as I suggested previously?
You can try to flash system.img using fastboot (download factory image from developers.google.com/android/nexus/images, and extract system.img, and fastboot flash it - no guarantees it will work, but worth a try )
I have already try to flash only the system.img
And a factory reset works.. But I wont lost everything ..

Pick your poison...
if someone know which apps cause the issue, I can try to delete it with adb shell
You have a nandroid backup, so do a full reset to get the phone up and running again...
After that, let the Google backup feature install all your apps from the playstore and then use Titanium Backup to restore data only from the nandroid.
I've flashed a clean system, and after I tried to restore my app with Titanium Backup with my nandroid backup but it doesn't work..
Details please... "It doesn't work" doesn't say anything.
Stop using the nandroid to restore things.. They almost always cause issues. Also never restore a nandroid after a repair. The parts are different. So things could easily get messed
I use Google backup and MyBackup Pro.
When I try to restore with titanium backup, I can browse my nandroid backup, see all my apps.. Restore them (it tooks long time ) titanium tell me "success" but nothing append

Just flash stock, it's that easy!
As long as you sign in with the same Google account that was previously on the device, there will be something in the setup asking if you would like to restore from a previously used device, and you just select Nexus 6 from the drop down menu (make sure you select the right date), it will restore all of your apps, contacts, and it'll be back to normal within a few minutes. You'll lose your app data, but this doesn't matter much unless you play games. You'll have to flash twrp and root again, but at least you'll have a working device.
Although this is coming from someone who doesn't have any important data on their phone, it doesn't matter. You still have between having a device that doesn't boot or starting fresh. It's kind of fun sometimes .

[SOLVED] A functional CWM recovery for the Pop Plus (S5570i) ?

Hi,
I have a Galaxy Pop Plus (S5570i - rooted) which I currently renewed by reflashing the stock rom: I’ve done optimization/customization of both system and applications and now I’d wish to do a Nandroid backup of everything, since I plan to install/test some other rom.
In the past months I’ve tried some CWM recovery which installed fine, and all CWM which I tested were able to correctly performs the Nandroid backup on my SD card, but none of these CWM recovery were able to restore the backup; I don’t exactly remember the exact error message, but was something about the mounting of some partition, furthermore this failed restorings caused my phone to become bricked and I was forced to reflash the stock rom.
By searching on this forum I've find this discussion, about another version of CWM for the S5570i, especially on the following post:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27179828&postcount=119
The user in such post ( draiyan ) said that he was able to backup and restore a Galaxy Mini Plus using the Skin1980-GT-S5360+CWM.zip file. Well: this CWM, as the other which I tried, boots fine on my phone and as the other which I tried, has been able to make a Nandroid backup, but I’d wish to have some other confirmation: is the CWM kin1980-GT-S5360+CWM.zip recovery able to restore the backup? Or maybe someone can suggest me a tested CWM for the Galaxy Mini Plus with the stock rom, which is able to correctly restore a Nandroid backup?
Many thanks.

Well, I reply to myself, also for future references/needs of the people which will read this topic:
Yes: the CWM Skin1980-GT-S5360+CWM.zip recovery is able to properly backup and restore the Nandroid Backup on the Galaxy Mini/Pop Plus (S5570I), yesterday I decided to take the risk to restore the Nandroid backup and everything went fine: the restore was properly done, because using a root file explorer I made a text file under /system and /data: after the Nandroid restore these text file were no longer present, and after the reboot I found my phone in a previous state (before the restore the phone was in plane mode, after the restore the plane mode was disabled).
