Max Battery Capacity Not 4 Amps - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

I've had my Note 9 for just over a week, installed AccuBattery Pro day one, and after many charge cycles, my battery health is sitting at an estimated 3,855 mAh. I know this is only 4% lower than manufacturer specifications, but 4% is 4%. Does everyone feel AccuBattery's estimations are fairly accurate? I've used AccuBattery for years, and this is the first phone that showed less than the designed capacity.
I'd like to swap it out for a different one, has anybody had any experiences like this or tips on getting Best Buy to understand the issue?

I reset Accubattery pro through apps after 22 seasions. Still shows 97% 3882mHa ( was 95% before) I'm wondering if I do a total charge down to zero then charge if it might change our figures? I posted up about this on day one. Didn't have this issue on my note 8.

I'll give resetting the app a try and see if it reads in differently. My Note 8 started at 103% capacity.

I had the same problem and reset accubattery. Now it reads 101%.

I have had my phone using August 22. So far it's still showing at just over 4000mah

How reset AccuBattery?Delete date? You are snapdragon or exynos?
Mine exynos 3850mAh.

u cant rely on accubattery for that.. it only makes an estimated "calculation", so don't worry about it

Actually I probably never did. Deep Discharge from the Note 8 has me scared of running into the same issue, and I never charge above 70%. I'll give that a try, wouldn't hurt.

Generally speaking I don't discharge to zero either. When possible 40-80% range .or at best don't let it get lower than 39% .

Yep, delete data. I have snap dragon. My mah was around there so deleted the app data to start from scratch.

After deleting data on Accubattery Pro, the battery estimate is now over 4k mAh but the health is still at sub 97%.

I read some technical articles on Li-on low discharge being hard on the battery and shared with the Accubattery dev, but he didn't seem to think it had an impact on battery health or that the community cared, but would consider it. I'd love to have a low battery notification threshold in the app as well. I try to never discharge below 15%.

I see in your graph different percentages of loading. What do you use to charge the phone? Wireless or cable? I charge many times from 30% to 100% and show me a little bit about the health of the battery.

I do not mind the notification, I go to the minimum, but it disturbs me the 3780mAh measurement and I loaded on the normal wireless. If it was cable, it was less. I performed a 40% load on 100%.

I got battery health at 95% think note 8 was at 98%
Based on reading various comments here is it that their statistics are just that and inaccurate ?
I tried to find another app that does this to at least compare but Kaspersky doesn't give this level if detail.

Third session ( since reset of app)and now my estimate figures dropped from.over 4000mAh to following. Charged all way to 100% from 49%.

That's how it looks at me on exynos. If I immediately remove the charger after the LED made green I have 3785mAh. If I leave it 15 minutes extra after it is loaded, it grows to 3850mAh. It is clear that it does not have 4000mAh or has software limitation loading.
But why do you charge the battery from 49%? A cable charge of 30% and wireless from 40% to 100% is more than acceptable.
I had Notes 8 and AccuBattery show me 3150mAh after 1 yea with all limitation software. We still have now Notes9 with a much bigger battery so we have no reason to worry about it 2,3years.

Phoneboy 6800mah extended battery

Hi guys,
Just wondering whether anyone else has bought this for there note 2?.
My arrived today, £9 99 from phoneboy.co.uk and not a good start! One of the clips on the new back casing had snapped off, so on the right hand top side the case doesnt sit flush with the phone, but no deal I can live with that, just cant be bothered returning it. Lol.
So I changed my phone up to 100% and started the new 6800mah battery first cycle, ive gotta say its lasting the same amount of time as the original samsung battery that comes with the phone. But I'm guessing I need to charge the battery a few good times first before I see any difference in its life. And I just hope there will be!??
Stay tuned, I will keep you all updated.

So is it a 6800 or 3800 battery ? Title and content conflict with each other

Update: 1st cycle
Put on charge at 14% due to going to bed. Mainly browsering Internet, listening to music, a few youtube videos. Browsing google play store. Played a few games.
Not really any difference from samsungs offical battery considering its double in power. Hoping thst will change though after a few cycles

I know for a fact they stop charging when the phone "thinks" it has reached capacity. So buy a 1000000 mah battery and charge it in the phone and see no difference.

take the extended life battery, and when first putting in phone, charge for 12 hrs on AC. then discharge down to critical (5%) and charge back up to 100% using minimum 8-10 hr cycles each charge up for first 4 cycles or so. phone will build battery stats and you should see badass life right away.
Mind running some battery benchmark tools?
I purchased an Onite extended battery here and it should be coming in friday. I posted some results of my standard size Onite battery in another thread and had some pleasing results, even though it's still a fresh battery. The 350ma (+-50ma) slow charger that came with my 2 Onite batteries takes about 10 hours to charge one of the batteries (assuming the 3500mah is true), then this means the 6500 mah extended battery will take about 18.5 hours to fully charge through that .35A charger. I don't mind the normal batteries taking long to charge, as it charges a littler longer than I sleep and the slower the better.

charge up or drain it during 1st use

for those who already had their one, i had a question.
i heard that for the 1st time, we need to charge it for around 8 hours right out from the box.
but i saw some users draining it out of the box then only charge it.
confused here

It should be and there should be no difference. This type of charging scheme only affects older types of battery that stores some memory of the charge. Unlike Li-Ion or Li-Po that doesn't rely on anything and just pushes out everything it has and accepts everything until it's limit.
My One came with about 70-80% battery so i used it for a day and then charged it fully as soon as it went down to about 9-10% Like the above post says, charging it straight out of the box only applies now a days to older phones with older batteries, hope this helped.

Battery life is crap

No, if it dies that fast then it's user error.

There's no need to cycle with li-ion or li-po batteries. In fact it's explicitly bad for your battery to run it down to 0.

Running your battery from 100% to 0% is useful in recalibrating the battery in the event of cell mismatches, which can happen over time.

Here's a very good post for information about li-ion / lithium polymer batteries:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40596097&postcount=3
You generally shouldn't need to recalibrate the battery on a new phone (since it's a new battery), but it doesn't hurt if you think your battery may be mis-calibrated. (for example, your phone sits at 0% battery for long amounts of time) Do you have any apps that monitor wakelocks on your phone?
i was complaining my battery was crap yesterday. iv gained 1 hour in battery since yesterday.
GSam reported 9hours 24mins avg battery yesterday. I cycled it once since then and today its showing 10 hours 38mins avg.
Hoping for further improvements.
The phone needs to know where empty and full battery is. I've always calibrated mine by fully charging and killing at least twice with every phone I've owned and had no il effects and got much better battery life afterwards.
So do I calibrate or cycle? If so, how do I do that? Im fully stock and the only battery app I have is the battery guru made for snapdragon devices. Idk if that's what's killing my battery.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
It does no harm to run the battery to 0% occasionally, but the advice i have seen is to try to not run li-ion / li-po batteries below 10% too often as that can shorten their life.
For a new device i would run it down to around 10% with normal use, then give it a real long charge till it indicates fully charged, then unplug it and wait a minute or so then plug it back in and leave it on charge another couple of hours to make sure it is fully 100% charged.
After you have done this whole procedure maybe 3 times, you should have a properley conditioned battery. My HTC One is usually at 50% or better after a 12 hour working day, so i am more than happy with the battery life.

You are totally wrong I am afraid. LiON and LiPO batteries do not have memories and neither like a complete discharge/recharge cycle. The rule is 'a little and often' as far as charging is concerned.

They do NOT have memory effect like nickel-based batteries, but they CAN suffer from cell mismatches which require re-calibration (aka fully charging, discharging, and recharging).

My experience and questions
Thanks for this excellent post! I got my new HTC One day before yesterday and like the Vincent's post says, the phone had about 40-50% of charge when it came in the box. I was very excited to see the phone that I totally forgot about recalibration of the battery
I used the phone out of the box, and I have charged from 2 nights (from about 15% to 100% charge) and haven't run the battery the battery down to 0% yet (when I say 0% what I mean is the level of charge when the phone automatically turns itself off to protect from complete discharge). My questions below:
1) What should I do now to accurately calibrate my battery life? When I called HTC customer service today they asked me to do battery reset (steps below).
- Untick the quick boot under settings -> power
- Turn off the phone
- Hold down the volume up, volume down and the power button continuously for 1 minute (the phone seem to boot up and shut down 3-4 times during this process)
- Run your battery all the way down to 0% and then charge it fully to 100%
This seems to be a fair procedure but since it was told by customer service, I'm a bit skeptical. So I would very much love to hear some opinion of battery gurus here
2) Does the 2 night charging that I did affect my battery capacity (has the dent been made already)?
Please let me know, and thanks in advance!
PS. The battery life in my experience in the past 2 days has been decent (I have about 20% from 7am - 9pm) and I'm a moderate-heavy user!

Abnormal battery usage

So today while visiting a friend and doing a couple things on my phone the battery showed 81%. Suddenly it cut off and would not cut back on. I put it on the charger for about 20 mins and it came back on and showed 16%.
When I took it off the charger it was at 100% and I didn't use it at all between her house and mine. It's also eating battery super fast now. I'm not rooted or anything but this has me concerned. I signed up for the 1 to 1 trade but I'm worried about waiting now. Anyone else experiencing weird battery issues?
I'd be a bit concerned about that. If the battery really was at 81%, and the hardware decided the battery was dead, it really makes new wonder if this wouldn't allow it to become over charged and go "pop"..

Last night mine went from 21% to 15% instantaneously while watching YouTube. Not worried, however, it's going back when the replacements arrive.
So now I get a Samsung+ warning that my device is draining battery faster than its charging. I was using my official wireless fast charger. After noticing that the phone only got up to 30% after a hour I switched it to the wall charger that came with it. charging is still going slow. I even did a factory reset.

I'd do another factory reset and let the phone sit for a while before setting it up. Then I'd make do and exchange it ASAP! Keep a careful eye on charging temperature in the meanwhile. I'm thinking of charging mine on a baking sheet so it can't ignite anything, lol! Since you are having such unusual problems, can't be too cautious!

Haha, I'm thinking of going iPhone, too, but I'm a little scared to wait the week, and I don't have a phone to use in the meantime.

Guys,
This is not a single issue, I also had been running into the same battery dying out of nowhere. Check the thread I started

Damn,
I'm thinking forget this mess and switching over to the Iphone 7 Plus. I'm getting pretty tired of figuring out battery issues, debloating etc. I just want my damn phone to work.

Who's to say some problem won't crop up with the new iPhone? Maybe you shouldn't rush in. I wouldn't be in this mess if it weren't for the high price and my plan to use the promotions to mitigate that. I always wait a couple of months to buy but by then the promotions would have expired. Anyways, it's done, now trying to stay positive and remember I have a Tab and SD card for my trouble.

Is there a lifecycle problem with the OP3 battery?

Hi,
there is a german website -> http://www.chinamobilemag.de/news/oneplus-3-akku-problem.html
(Translator -> https://translate.google.com/transl...neplus-3-akku-problem.html&edit-text=&act=url )
They talk about that the capacity are going down. After 120 charging cycles the lost 20% capacity. The messurement was taken by a usb tool.
I did not have things like this. Can you follow them or do they make some failures? The articel sound a little anoying
The one thing that pops out immediately in my mind after reading the article is that we don't know if the OP3 battery has linear deterioration.
Only time and more measurements will tell if 200-240 charging cycles = 40% loss in capacity or not.
But i guess after 100 Load-Cycles we sould not have 20% power less
This could be true bc any type of fast charging has bad effects on battery. That's why I don't use dash charger.

Fast charging is not problem. The heat is Dash doesn't have this heat.
Anyways I don't believe in this thing. My battery is still fine so.
Does an one know if there is an app to check the capacity of the battery?

That is not necessarily true. Battery deteriorates due to fast charging only if the phone/battery gets heated during charging and since VOOC charging dissipates heat in the charger only, theoretically, battery itself shouldn't deteriorate much. Besides, number of charge cycles does have effect on battery health but capacity dropping by 20% in just 100 cycles is bit much.
several users commented there already, many of them saying that the measured it in the same way and state a loss of about 500mah ... :/ this is worrying
Such a trash....
Got my device right after release, dash charged every time i need 2 charge...
And guess what?
Even 5 hrs SOT and 2-3 days of standby time. Using OOS 3.5.5
Such a nonserious site and post. U guys really belive all the sh*t those guys out there feeding u.
Please close this pathetic thread! Thx

several of those guys measured it and you deliver one anecdotal response, even insulting them. nice work!

I generally agree with you when it comes to battery related anything, but just trying to keep an open mind.
And u Guys think those measures were correct?
Who are those Guys? Probably no One of them got electrical knowledge.. "measure" it urself, than Start making Panic... Thx.
I'm also worried about OP3 battery life, I even asked a question some time ago: http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/help/battery-health-t3455138
I installed AccuBattery and it shows me 2700mAh capacity :/ I have the OP3 since 1.7.16
The accuracy of those tools is not proved.
If u trust them u can also install a solar app and put or phone into the sun for recharging the battery.
Wer viel misst, misst Mist!

nope but they seem to get the same values as the extern meters. If anyone with a brand new phone would use the app, that would clarify a lot.
Maybe our battery never had 3000mAh Who knows? Has someone tested it on release? [ATTETION: a bit of irony]
My Accu health is at 90% and Kapaziti has 2.695

26OCT delivered, AccuBattery shows 3000 here, I never full cycled the battery to below 20%, 10% rarely 1 time until now & charge the battery upto 80%-90% only

Maybe OnePlus cheaped out on batteries, I lost faith in this company, I will move to a Flagship Pixel once My OP3 is not usable anymore.
I wanted a pixel but I could buy the OP3 AND the OP3T for the price of one Pixel.
