Hello all,
Trying to upgrade my AT&T S6 SM-G920A from Marshmallow 6.0.1 to Nougat 7. It's an AT&T phone but I am using Cricket Service. I can't get the update through the device. I want to use ODIN to flash it but there's so many guides out there that I don't know which to follow and which files to flash? Any help?
My baseband version on the phone is G920AUCS5DPJ1
Thank you!

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd’s (KRX:005935) new Galaxy S5 smartphone can now be rooted using the CF-Auto-Root tool, developed by Chainfire, a recognized member of the XDA Developers forum.
Rooting a device allows users to get complete access to the device’s operating system to make changes to the file systems. In order to root the Galaxy S5 running on the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat, users are required to flash the CF-Auto-Root file in the smartphone.
Users will have to download the appropriate CF-Auto-Root package for their Galaxy S5 models. Users can check the model number by going to Settings > About phone > Model number.
Here are the download links to CF-Auto-Root packages:
Points To Remember Before Rooting
- Users are recommended to back-up all data before rooting the device
- The device should have at least 80 percent charge left on the battery
- USB drivers must be installed on the computer with USB Debugging enabled on the device to transfer files between the phone and computer
- Users should ensure they are using the correct root package for their device

Tutorial

Step 2: Boot the Galaxy S5 in Download mode by pressing and holding down the Volume Down, Home and Power buttons together. When a warning screen is displayed, press the Volume Up button to enter Download mode.
Step 3: Now, run Odin3 v3.09.exe as an Administrator and then connect the Galaxy S5 to the PC via USB cable. If connected successfully, a message showing “Added!!” will appear in Odin’s message box, if not, try another USB port. If the issue persists, try reinstalling the USB driver.
Step 4: Click on the AP button, and select the CF-Auto-Root file (a .tar.md5 file), which was extracted in Step 1.
Step 5: In Odin, make sure that the “Auto Reboot” and “F. Reset Time” options are checked while “repartition” is unchecked.

This method seems sooooo much more complex than towelroot and potentially more risky?

Yes, in the developer's original thread, and he should be getting the thanks for it.

Thread closed as Chainfire already has a thread here so there is no need for one that essentially copy/pastes the information in his thread.
I have hard-bricked my Nexus 4 while flashing Optimus G Kitkat KDZ file. I could not get into download mode, fastboot, and it had no signs of life but Qualcomm HS-USB driver. I have successfully restored it to download mode, which allows to flash stock ROM via instruction at Here.
LG BoardDiag looks like this:

}
However, since there is no Nexus 4 on this list, I have chose G (APQ8064), as Optimus G uses same AP and it is almost identical to Nexus 4.
You need to download tot file for Nexus 4 from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/stock-stock-roms-collection-ca-eu-au-t1976057
Click the link saying LGE960AT-00-V10c-NXS-XX-NOV-14-2012-JVP15L-FACTORY_0.
If you already have a .tot file, we need to extract important files including bootloader and partition table within tot file.
1. Rename tot file extension to bin (*.tot to *.bin). Renaming will make this file also usable for LGNPST, which you can use to flash Nexus 4 stock ROM.
2. On the Image Extraction section of BoardDiag, click 3 dot button on BIN, then choose Nexus 4 firmware image renamed at step 1.
3. Click 3 dot button on DIR, and make a folder "N4" on any familiar directory.
4. Click "Extract" Button.
5. On Target DIR section of the BoardDiag, choose "N4" folder you have created at step 3.
6. Go to Device Manager and find COM port number of HS-USB QDloader (In my case, it was COM13, but in case COM port of your Nexus 4 is different, you need to choose right COM Port.)
7. On BoardDiag, at COM Port section, choose COM Port that you have seen on Device Manager at step 6 (If HS-USB QDloader showed COM13, you may select COM13, otherwise, choose right COM Port that you have found on Device Manager.)
8. Tick AP check, then click start.
9. Tick EMMC Test, then click start after AP check is done.
10. Tick SDRAM Test, then click start after EMMC Test is done. Wait until your device shows "Download Mode" screen.
11. Download Automated LGNPST on This Post. and install LGNPST.
12. Flash Nexus 4 stock ROM (bin file used at step 2) with LGNPST. However, after you flash stock ROM via LGNPST and finish first boot, it will show "type password to decrypt storage". Don't panic and flash factory image from google (I recommend 4.2.2) on fastboot mode (Vol up + down + Power without power/usb cable connected. If vol up+down are pressed while usb / power cable is connected, it will boot up to download mode.)
13. For storage issue (16GB model showing 8GB of storage), follow the instruction at http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/tutorial-how-to-unbrick-n4-t2347060 .

Now I have a completely black screen and can't boot into dl or rec mode..

Use Odin3 Version 1.7 to 1.83 ( meant for Galaxy S1 series (attached below)
Attached below 3 i9000 PIT files ( use 512 only for re-partition ) or 512 PIT
i9000 JVU ROM with i9000 JVU CF ROOT Kernel download and unzip
FIRST ensure your phone (i9000) has more than 80% battery charge before attempting to Flash.
Procedure:
1. Fire up Odin3 on your PC and ensure KIES is not running on your PC by killing (Kies.exe , KiesTrayAgent.exe, and KiesPDLR.exe) using Task Manager
2. Put the phone to the Download Mode by pressing (VolumeDown+Home+Power) buttons and connect the phone to your PC (your phone should be recognized)
3. Select PDA > CODE_I9000XXJVU_CL851880_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5
4. Select PHONE > MODEM_I9000XXJVU_REV_00_CL1092175.tar.md5
5. Select CSC > GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJVU.tar.md5
6. Select PIT > 512 PIT (If 'Re-Partition' is not checked under 'Option', check it)
7. Press the Start button Do not press anything else or interrupt it, wait for flashing process to complete and phone will reboot
After which you repeat steps one and two (to flash the kernel for root and CWM recovery)
3. now select PDA > CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS
4. press Start Button. Do not press anything else or interrupt it, wait for flashing process to complete and phone will reboot
That's it, now you have a perfect Phone, rooted and having CWM recovery, ideal starting point for upgrading to ICS and after that to Jelly Bean custom ROM's
Any problems you may have after doing this, just look here for the solution to that particular problem.
As explained earlier (about clean flashing) if your phone reboots into recovery with some errors appearing in red after flashing the JVU ROM

it may be resolved by flashing dbdata.rfs (attached below) as PDA in Odin3 to remove the junk data files.Using Heimdall to flash
You can do the same process using heimdall instead of Odin3 too, to use heimdall one click you can download i9000 Rescue kit and flash. or use [GUIDE] Flashing with Heimdall

my device is locked in fastboot after flashing gsi, i tried all but nothing, so i locked the bootloader, i know i'm dumb but i was and i am desperate, solutions? idk if there is still a rom in because it was empty and i tried the fastboot method to reflash rom like flash boot.img and vbmeta.img and others (nothing changed).
UPDATE, i unlocked the bootloader but the problem is still here, i tried to flash rom with fastboot but it fails with system and vendor, i think that's the problem.
logs? photos? how you flashed? what you flashed?
Supposing your bootloader is unlocked, just follow this guide taken from this Mi official page.
Method 2: Fastboot Update
Note
A Windows PC/laptop will be needed for the following steps. Make sure that your device is fully charged or has enough power for this process. This guide will help you update your device to the latest MIUI ROM version. All user data will be purged in this process. Please back up your data and think twice before proceeding.
STEP 1
Download MIUI ROM Flashing Tool (Size: 66.7 MB)
STEP 2
Select the right MIUI ROM version for your phone:
★ Redmi Note 11 [spes] Global
★ Redmi Note 11 NFC [spesn] Global
★ Redmi Note 11 NFC [spesn] Europe
★ Redmi Note 11 NFC [spesn] Russia
STEP 3
Turn off the device. Press the Volume– key and the Power button at the same time to enter Fastboot mode. Then connect the device to the Windows PC/laptop via a USB cable
STEP 4
Double click on the downloaded ROM file to decompress it. Open the file folder for the decompressed ROM pack, and copy its path on the computer.
STEP 5
Decompress the MIUI ROM flashing tool downloaded in Step 1, and double click on it to install (if there is security warning, select 'Run'). After installation is completed, open MiFlash.exe and paste into the address bar the ROM file folder path copied in the last step.
Click on the first button (circled out in yellow) to Refresh, and MiFlash should automatically recognize the device. Then click the second button (circled out in red) to flash the ROM file to the device.

STEP 6
Wait until the progress bar inside MiFlash turns fully green, which means the ROM has been successfully installed. Then your device should automatically boot to the new version.
If the flashing guide could not help you, please download Mi PC Suite here (after Mi PC Suite is installed, make sure that your phone is in fastboot mode, connect your phone to a computer, and select the correct ROM file to flash).
I finally solved, i unlocked bootloader again with mi unlock and i followed this instructions, thx
