is the curved screencorners software or hardware - Sony Xperia XZ3 Questions & Answers

the z1 had slightly curved screen corners through software, it was the first phone to use it Before apps started to do it for you, i wonder if it's the same for the xz3, are the curved screen corners software where it just slaps a filter or is it actually the screen?

It's very obviously the real physical display and glass all curved just like Samsung's S8,S9.
Watch YouTube reviews for xz3 they are already out

Yeah mine came with both. I think everyone has them.
Some people removed them, but some people say they help with the strength of the glass.
I took my front one off because it got some marks on it... Seems fine without it.
I say: Leave them on until they get damaged (which seems quite easy)

You removed the front one? Did the Sony logo still stick on the phone? or it's embedded on the screen protector??

Afaik the Sony logo is on the preinstalled shatterproof protectors and will disappear when removing the front one.
it seems, not only this protectors increases dust absorption and finger print but also is getting a feel of lost slip on screen when i want to sweep between the pages.i think is better to remove this shields if it is possible and dont injury knocks the screen
my q is why sony should be placed these protectors even with using drugonglass in z?!!!is this can a reason for worse viewing angle on xperia z?!!!

Then you're very lucky as the back of mine looks like a multicolored rainbow of oil slick after a few mins use.
Did you lose the Sony logo off the front? If you didn't you likely just removed the second screen protectors and left the shatter proof factory ones on.
Mines almost unusable now as the fingerprints are worse than any phone I've ever owned.
Viewing angles remain unchanged from removing the protectors, you shouldn't spread false info as there will be a lot of unhappy campers removing their protectors and seeing zero viewing angle difference.
I think you'd better not peel them off. These coverings are designed to prevent broken glass splinters hurting people, and hard and stuck very tight with special method in factory. It won't affect display I suppose, trust Sony. It's part of the device. Moreover, since it scratches easily, add one more film on it...
warranty
not sure if removing sony anti-shatter foils does also remove warranty...as you are given foils also in package, maybe read somewhere on XDA
I do not understand why people remove these...
- When NOT removed and If you drop the phone, it prevents the glass splinters from shattering all over the place.
- When removed Sony can no longer guarantee the phone to be water proof, as stated in another topic.
- When removed the phone attracts more fingerprints.
- When removed you lose the Sony logo on the front.
As far for these scratching a lot, I have not put on any extra screen protector and do not have a single scratch yet.
However I do use a leather case, always do that with all my phones.
Used Xperia Play for 2 years aprox, not a single scratch on the pre installed film.
Kind regards, Stefan.
The dragontrail glass is only for durability purposes! DO NOT remove the shatter proof sheet, it protects the screen from drop shocks so it doesn't get broken! Use the supplied screen protector and you will be fine! Unfortunately here in Greece it ships without screen protectors in the box and damn we got the highest price! (€699)

xperia z - screen super sensitive?

I am sure everyone here is aware of the behavior of a screen when you put pressure on it or squeeze the sides of a phone hard? You see moving liquid etc.
I don't apply too much pressure to my phone when scrolling through a page and there is a specific section on my screen that makes this liquid ripple effect as if I am putting pressure on the screen?
Even when I took a screen capture , which requires power button + volume down it created this effect on the edges of my screen and I am not even holding the phone tight.
Should I be concerned ? I do have a tpu gel that I am thinking is intensifying the pressure when I hold the phone.

Mine has the ripples too on the bottom left corner if I only press on it but other than that its fine. Its an LCD thing. I don't use a case on mine I like my phone naked! lol
What about skins? I wanted to go naked on this phone too, it is so beautiful. So you don't even use a screen protector?

I was thinking about putting on some carbon fiber skins but then decide not to just because I dont really care for it. Yea I have a screen protector on but before that, I took off my anti shatter film. The screen was so sticky and not smooth and I saw a tiny scratch on it so I put on a screen protector back on right away. Don't ever take that anti shatter film off lol

Yea called the anti shatter film. If you look closely at the speaker and mic grill on the front of the phome you'll see it. There's also one on the back. The Sony logo comes off with it too if you take the film off

Interesting so I really don't need to add extra protection then ! I may be exchanging my phone anyway due to the weird liquid behavior on the same spot.
I went back to the t-mobile store and the employee saw the screen issue and agreed that was not normal. We also checked the demo display and it had the exact same issue except in a different location on the screen.
Told them I wanted to exchange but I would continue returning the phone if each new phone has the same behavior. They would not allow me to exchange for the HTC one without paying 50 dollars restock fee. I thought that was pretty ridiculous considering that there was an existing issue and concern.
The exchange ended up not having the issue ^_^ yay. I really did want to keep the xperia but I actually thought it was going to be a normal thing on the phone which I would not of been OK with. Now I am wondering if it was a case I tried at the Sony store that was super tight that might be caused the lcd to have a weird spot.

ZR SONY LOGO embedded onto the Display or Anti Shatter Film?

Does this have the same problem as the Xperia Z where if you remove the anti shatter film after it gets scratched the sony logo also comes off?
I don't think many people will remove the anti-shatter film... not in my case
I actually think about removing this fu.... anti shatter film, as the screen of my 2 weeks old XPeria is already scratched.
Dunno if the Sony logo is part of the film...
So nobody knows?
I don't want to remove it if I buy this phone but if it gets scratched and can be noticeable I might want to remove it. Problem is will it also remove the logo?
on the Z/ZL it's on the film but for ours it doesn't LOOK like it is... idk tho i wanna know myself since i too wanna remove it and put a nano coating
so how can we be sure of this?
can anyone in this world find out the answer to this question?
it should be easy to see if its on the screen protector or not.
which ntyprm
I 'm interested as well, but I don't want to be the first to remove the shatterproof film
You will lose the logo if you remove the film. I've get this info before purchase one, so i ask reseller paste another layer proctor film on it and get a spare film too

wont that be too much layers of film?
i mean 2 layers would reduce sensitivity and also sharpness and make the display look um kinda crappy and dull?

Not really, I feel it more sensitive than GNexus which gets only one protect film.
Two layer is still very thin to get phone detects finger movement.
can zr detect with glove on?

ha, it could actually be beneficial, if it reduces sensitivity enough to avoid water drops register as hits, while keeping sensitive enough to fingers.
Removing the anti-shatter film will void the guarantee or so some Z users said. And yes it's pretty stupid and easily scratched mine had a tiny scratch on it, almost not visible but I know the f***er is there and I used it very, very carefully while I was waiting for my screen protectors. Not really a bright ideas this from SONY.

How difficult is the removal? I have heard its more difficult on the z1 than on the Z. If you have one edge loose can you simply pull it off or do you need a knife for scraping of the film?

Well, it was really easy. I just pulled off one corner with my nails (and I have not so much ) and then removed it entirely once the corner is up. No need of knife or anything else.

touch problem after removing shatter proof film

I bought xperia z1 two weeks ago.
Yesterday I removed the shatter proof film front and
back but now I have touch issues with the screen
sometimes not respond and always when touch
some point it touches it two or three times like
when iam browsing and want to go to the previous
page when back button touched it brings me to two
previous page.
Then I knew that the glass isn't oleophobic like the
shatter film.
What's the solution for me??!

maybe theres still some hidden glue left on the screen give it a good clean
to make sure if theres glue left try to breath on it you'll see if theres odd shapes forming from the condensation i remember that it clearly showed the glue when i did on mine

I have the exact same problem after removing the anti shatter film.
Has anyone else noticed this? If yes did one of you put another third-party screen protector on your phone afterwards and did this solve the touch-problems ?

the problem solved
I put screen protector and touching screen is now ooth and slippery
But it's shame to sony to make their phones not oleophobic screen and put cheap film on the phone that gets scratches easily??
Sony wake up how you didn't notice problem like this??! .
I have touch issues every now and then with the shatter proof film on...
Mostly on the lower half of the screen...
Edit= its scratched up too
And BTW does removing it increase the brightness and/or change the hue of the screen(like the yellow hue most ppl get)

I wonder why you remove asf.....
I'm also having these problems, I just removed ASF because it got some pretty nasty scratches from being in my pocket jeans with no other items (I'm still in shock at how easy it gets damaged). I'm also having issues primarily with the soft keys, it goes all crazy and recognizes multiple touches, seems that other parts of the screen are not affected (I tested this particular area of the screen in landscape mode and seems to have this problem in whatever the area is displaying). No oleophobic screen also noticeable, so my search begins for a good screen protector.
It looks quite amazing without the Sony logo though.

Scratchs? I also saw people doing this on Dell 40" LED Screen to improve image quality but you risk to damage the Phone or the Display so I don't know how much is it worth.

As the previous reply said, scratches are probably a good motivator. Sony won't replace the ASF film under warranty and since many people have it scratched, they are probably quite tempted to just remove it..

Not to mention the fact that at least according to Sony, the film is supposed to make the touchscreen more sensitive and accurate, and after removing it, it will be too late to put it back.

Because when I look at my screen in my "flagship" 2013 phone I don't like seeing scratches, what is the point in having a device with FullHd Triluminos display etc etc when I can't enjoy it because of Sony's poor quality ASF..personally I don't know how someone thought of this as a standard, but hey I'm no engineer. By the way I applied a screen protector and everything's back to normal.
I for my part removed the ASF because my phone fell around 30cm on the floor, so almost just tickled it, and took such nasty and heavy scratches from it that it was impossible to keep it that way. Also it had a lot of minor scratches from just keeping it in my pocket.
What I can confirm is, that the touch issues are especially in the lower part of the screen. Also it seems like this problem occurs more often if the phone is "cold", for example if I use it outside.
I hope that this will be fixed software-wise through firmware/app (by better calibrating or smth like that) or trough a 3rd party screen protector.
the winter solved the issue
I removed the screen protector but there's no issues with touch screen
I think the problem is only in summer or hot climate because fingers have alot of oil in this time

Wow what a strange solution..what made you remove it in the first place? Was there any other change in circumstances that could explain the fix? I'm really interested since the way you explained your problem in the first post was exactly my issue as soon as I removed the ASF.
I'm waiting on 4.3 to even consider removing the screen protector as it cost me a lot of trouble putting it without a single particle of dust/bubbles/alignment. Anyway I live in a place where there's no "winter", it's always hot in here.
Actually it happens more in winter for me... Maybe because of the static electricity I guess... And the Aluminum frame...
Since 4.3 update, touchscreen problem is worse, even with the screen protector it sometimes skips when trying to use Swype keyboard in all situations, with or without case, cold or hot weather, touching the aluminium frame or not..seems to have something to do with oily fingers. Still hoping that a firmware update may correct it.

I do not use swypette but same here, after update the touch screen is worse. I know the sensitivity or the respond of the touch can be modified but at the moment everybody have something else in mind than try to fix this.

The OP5 screen compared to the OP3

Now then, I've had my OP5 since Monday, and have read all the things about jelly scrolling, inverted display panels and so on. This is something different and the reason I am likely to return this phone within the 15 day period.
It's been a bit wet and dark here all week in Hull, but I wear polarised sunglasses in the sunshine and am amazed at the OP5 screen while wearing them. Have a look at the photos of the OP5 and OP3 taken on my 6P, then look at the other photo of them taken on my 6P through the lens of my sunglasses. The whites are all split on the OP5 through polarised glasses but remain perfect on the OP3 (apologies for the photo orientation).
I have serious doubts of the OP5 panel quality.
Wow... Is that related to the new gorilla glass? Or maybe a change in the panel? AMOLED effect maybe? Seems that OP is hiding many things from us.... Faulty bootloader, dirty things under the OOS hood, display issues, ...

Thats caused by the screenprotector for sure
Original screen protector on both. This also doesn't happen on my 6P with or without screen protector. Perhaps they've done something different with this one?

I don't know, but I've never had this with an amoled screen before (HTC desire, N1, NS, Moto X (13 & 14), N6P, OP3 etc). You always get some phasing, which I expect: e.g. the Pixel C appears blank in portrait mode. Crappy TN panel PCs go very dark unless directly ahead. (All with polarised sunglasses on)
This is an issue I've never seen on an amoled display.
Wow that's strange. What kind.of crappy panel are OP using?!

Nah, that's not the screen protector. There's a very strong rainbow effect which is especially visible when displaying white. That's really annoying (and adds up to the jelly effect...)
Damn people like cry about small things... Screens look weird when you look them via polarized glass. Example mine dont look that bad than yours. Also, you really cant compare them if both phones arent at EXACTLY SAME PLACE. Now other one is on center and other one on the left side. Sunglasses are usually littlebit curved also which can show other screem differently than other.
You should take pictures with one phone at the time and then combine pictures with photo editor. Make sure that either glasses, camera or phone are all at exact same spot.
Ps. Oneplus 3/3T has Gorilla Glass 4 and Oneplus 5 has Gorilla Glass 5 so you really cant compare them and say "OP5 panel is crap" when both phones has different glass but same panel. I'm almost sure that "issue" you found is caused by different front glass. Also you said that both has original screen protectors installed. Well that dont mean they would be same screen protectors. So to test this right you should test it without screen protectors and also with same glass, which is really hard to do

Also to me look a small thing. Maybe for our friend is super important.. it is subjective.
I also use polarized sunglasses, and my Motorola Nexus6 has a strange fluorescent effect, but not "rainbow" effect on white.

polarized maybe

The difference in angle is so slight that it wouldn't make a difference. I take the point about the difference in gorilla glass and the screen protectors, but as I said I have never seen anything like this level of white splitting, on any level of gorilla glass or any other screen protectors. I can only make this comparison with the phones as they are, not in an impossible lab situation. I said serious doubts about the panel quality.
Please keep this discussion reasonable and not start with the flaming.

I can confirm this. With the filter of my Nikon I have same effects on OP3 and OP5 screens related by the angle of viewing. It must be screen protector related. On both devices are the original protectors from OP. No worries about that. :good:
It is just because the display is build in upside down.
Try looking at ANY Computer Screen with the Polarized Sunglasses, turn the Sunglasses and you will see the same effects or even stranger, you cant see anything on the screen because it is LCD and not AMOLED.
