When using the front camera the scene looks mirrored. When taking the picture and opening it it looks flipped vertically. Is there a way to see the image on the screen of the camera app the same way as it will appear after taking the picture?

Front camera blurry with strange glow on edges

I have a problem with my new Huawei P10. Front camera is not sharp and pictures are blurry like i have beauty effect on. Also, pictures taken with front camera have strange glow on the edges. Anyone with same problem? is this normal? (p.s i tried turn on and off portrait mode, and skin smoothening is turned off but its same).
Clean the front lens might help with a smooth fiber cloth...

Hello,
Could you please take a screenshot inside the camera app, this could help see if it's the lens or the software.
Thanks

Is there a way to select second camera?

Hi, I'm looking for a way of selecting secondary (telephoto) camera, or just a way how to recognize which camera is taking photos (I'm doing test with finger over camera now )
I know about "x2" icon, which does: "select tele lens, if you have enough light, but use digital zoom of main camera if you want. But don't tell user, which camera is active any way!"
Thank you for ideas!

Google Camera v8.3b Mod with HDR+ (recommended settings)[Exynos]

I found the settings of google camera that give the best HDR+, portraits on Nougat/Oreo Exynos devices. Compared to stock camera, GCam gives better saturation levels and detailed images. HDR+ parameters don’t hugely matter what you choose, and is all personal preference. A higher amount (very high in my case) will take a longer time to process.
New settings attached below. Clean Install is always recommended.
Mod8.3b_IDan_v3.2.9_Exynos.apk
3.2.9 Features
-Fixed black level back camera for Samsung Galaxy A8/A8+
-Attempt to fix OIS
3.2.7 Features
- Fixed black level front
- Enabled OIS by default
- Added saturation options in Advanced HDR+ settings
3.2 Features
- Dark Theme for settings.
- Now you can select the path where to save the photos (doesn't work on sd card but probably can work with some xposed mod).
- Removed all the snapdragon toggles. The app will know when apply that settings.
- Removed custom denoise param and other settings
- Now the app will restart every time you go back from settings to the viewfinder. This means that you don't need anymore to restart the app to apply settings
- Now there are three gestures in the viewfinder:
1. double tap on the black area it will pop the exposure menu directly
2. long-press on gallery and it will open samsung gallery instead of google photos
3. long press on the switch camera and after the restart the viewfinder brightness will be set to maximum
- some minor changes
Gcam Tool v2..32
-Prevent flipping of front camera photos
-Choose which photos you want to move
-Select custom source and destination folders
-Batch move multiple files
-Option to delete the sub folder created by Google Camera
Download

Nice.. I couldn't get that movement correctly to slide it to get lens blur
But it seems to be a old version without the original portrait-mode. They are working on it and posted versions that are working for snapdragon but not for the exynos right now.

Also I thought protrait is only via rear camera, how did you do with front camera?

Lens blur is still better than live focus.

Not at all, Live Focus is infinitely better than lens blur. Lens Blur can't detect edges for ****. The problem with Live Focus is it requires adequate lighting for good processing. Lower light tends to do about as well as lens blur, for me at least.
Also Live Focus is fantastic as generating a gradual bokeh across the ground or a wall, it's way more natural. Lens Blur can't do anything like that.

I agree that but lens blur and live focus are totally different in work. Lens blur is a good replacement for devices like S8, S7 etc.
There's a new version that supports Portrait mode, and is working on Snapdragon variants... I've tried, but can't find any setting to work.

For me, the Google app is more natural than Samsung. The Samsung looks more artificial. Check by yourself. I installed the app as in OP. No problems at all.

Video exposure and focus lock?

Is this possible via the stock camera app at all or I need to look into Filmick (or other 3rd party apps) for such features? Auto focus and auto exposure adjusting constantly when shooting changing scenery/lighting can be a real PITA. Cheers
You can use the pro mode to focus manually and get a fix exposure.

Aaargh... I had thought of that so I had looked in Pro mode but didn't see any relevant video settings (or so I thought). Now when someone tells you it's there it somehow extends your awareness and voila, there's a camera icon on the top right corner that, wow, switches to Pro mode for video
Thanks man!
Is this camera icon shows up when you are in the pro mode? Or where? I can't see it.

haha, glad I was not the only one to whom it wasn't so evident!
Enter Pro mode, to the right you see the normal "Photo shoot" button, above it there is a camera icon, hit it and the button changes to "Rec" button and you are in Pro Video mode.
Haha, I found it, thanks man

That one I know but I thought you can use the focus slider to have nice effects.
Hi! You can do that. open camera>Settings>Enable the object tracking option.

Is there a way to use the 3x optical zoom lens?

Using 3x zoom in the camera doesn't switch to the 80mm lens. It just gives a crop from the 40mp main sensor.
Is there a way to actually use the 3x lens?
In my case to make it work I force Focus, after that i can see the swap between lenses.

How do you force focus? I tired manual focus and it still didn't change lenses when going from 1 to 3x

That doesn't do anything but use a crop from the 40mp sensor to give a fake "zoom". You would get the same results using the 40mp mode and cropping the image yourself
I'm convinced the optical zoom lens exists for nothing but marketing. The only lens on the back that is ever used for any photos is the middle lens.
Maybe it is something weird with mine. You can check this by covering the other lenses with your finger

You must use it in enough bright environment because it won't switch to zoom lens when it's not enough bright.

Dude, everyone can see the lens switching, the telephoto one have OIS, i use the zoom all the time, if i cover the telephoto lens i cant see anything, so yes the telephoto is fully functional and not a made up marketing, in pie they even added a toggle to the HDR mode so you can get HDR pictures using it faster. (in adroid oreo you can manually zoom until 3x on HDR but now alot easier). the only times you cant use it and the phone will switch back to the main lens, is:
1. At Night or when theres not enough light.
2.If you try to focus a object that is just too close.

I was wondering why my indoor 3x zoom pics were so poor. I had tried covering the zoom lens in the past, proving that it actually does switch between the two lenses. What I didn't realize until now, is that when the camera doesn't have enough light, the zoom lens isn't used and the 3x becomes a digital zoom using the main (middle) lens. You can easily see this by turning on the 3x zoom, covering it up, and shifting a live view from a bright window to a dark area inside - when pointing outside the lens is blocked, but when you swing around and point the camera inside you can see the image (because it is no longer using the 2x lens).
That explains the poor indoor zoom shots I've been taking - thanks!!
Now I still need to find out what the monochrome lens is actually doing in colour photos. Playing with blocking the lens only seems to have an effect in monochrome mode, but it is supposed to contribute to capturing all photos. Any suggestions...?
