I've never tried Curry Chicken in a Pie! Some Bombay Aloo on the side and you've got a dinner. One for the Bucket list.
No Pie would be complete without a great topping. Gravy for the hot pies, custard, cream or ice-cream for the desserts. So much yum.

I just learnt one thing that makes Pie a fraction better, 2 finger swipe down for quick settings gets you to the settings icon in one swipe.
(had been used to pulling the quick settings panel down on the right side in Lineage to do this previously)

The two finger pull down has been around for a while. Useful for those on stock ROMs that don't have the Quick Pulldown setting that you mentioned.
Android Pie leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Did Google really think that people wouldn't notice that they were deliberately creating an IOS clone? It boggles the mind. By doing so it simply invites direct comparison, which is the last thing that they should want as their own implementation just isn't as polished or refined. Instead of innovating they've copied. It's a sad state of affairs.
I've clean installed the Oreo ROM i'm using, installing older builds of Google apps that don't have the new UI or bloatware, and disabled updates. This is what i will use until Android becomes good again. Who knows how long that will be!
I'm kinda partial to Cherry Pie.

no setting, it works "out the box", well on my Essential phone anyhow, don't know about OnePlus. That's probably why I didn't realise it was there, having gotten so used to LineageOS in the last few years where you can set the right side of screen to do the same instead of two fingers
what do you mean by this?
So, err, Android Pie.... well, it's not very good, is it? Frankly...well...i'd probably say it's bloody awful. Just really, really awful. Can't think of one single redeeming quality. It a total duffer. Not one thing better than before, just....worse. In all respects. Worse.
In a world where Billions of people have a smartphone, the number of smartphone operating systems that i would personally use just went from one to zero. Tell me again why we let tech companies become monopolies?

Surely the place for the signal bars is in the Status Bar? Why not have the Settings icon there instead, rather than having to expand the panel to find it?
Yeah the most

What do you think about it? Is this is a really revolution?
I think this phone looks very nice with a stunning UI. The technical specs are nothing special, but this could be quite a hit i think.
thats a savage ass phone, you kno what would be sick tho if you could change the color of all the LED's on it two from blue to like purple or something. It's linux it should be fully customizable like that
I love the look of this phone. Very appealing. I will be interested in seeing more about it.
This would be the perfect MP3 Player. But for a smartphone, I do not know if it will offer the extreme flexibility of any of the four TRUE smart phones: Symbian S60, Windows Mobile, Android.
Does this phone have a file system, etc? Also, does Palm Pre and Palm Pixi have a file system and file manager too?
But I've seen this phone before, and I was excited, and still am.
I just don't expect it to be smart-centric. I expect it to be more like a Zune HD experience with some "quasi-smart" features like on the iPhone.
Original Poster, I think you should compile links on the first post and make this the official ELSE anticipation and discussion thread.
More Links http://else.bz/

But there are a few things I would like to know more about this phone.
*Judging by the Flash Videos, the keyboard on the phone sucks (but there are some pretty cool features). But the reason why it sucks is mainly due to the layout and size of the keys both in portrait and qwerty.
*I haven't seen any file manager. Will it be on this phone, and how complex is it?
*Speaker quality?

He was talking about the buttons being on the right side of the phone. Easier for us left-handers to use. I don't think you can change hardware location in settings
Use it upside down maybe!! too bad for you!! Does look interesting, but not entirely better than tab bars and such.. it does have that added sliding left feature and I guess it being capacative would not require much tension from the thumb. I am always up for new technology to push the limits.

Wow, maybe the device will not only have rotate orientation buy also flip orientation. That would be awesome!
It's all going to come down to how they market this phone. It looks great and definitely has appeal to those of us with a technical background and who love customization. But what carrier will they market it to? Can it be customized to settings that people find interesting such as led colors, programs, etc? and the biggest one: WHO will they allow to carry the operating system. Getting google to back this would be great, getting Nokia to make a phone able to support this would be great, but which one will have the advertising budget to challenge Apple and the like to the duel that will occur when this and the next generation of iphones is released? A small company like Access is going to have a really hard time trying to compete with Motorola, Nokia, Google, Samsung and Apple especially.
I'm sorry for reviving a dead thread, but does anybody know the name of this phone and the maker? I think the phone failed to launch and the maker went out of business and that's making it hard for me to find any information on this. A name should help, thanks.
The Linux based smartphone have actually been out for awhile. I think (Don't hold me to word on this) there is one called tuxphone. But I'm not sure if that's Linux based when I think back on it...

Why would anyone buy this over a tablet PC? On screen keyboard, that would have to be laid down in order for people to use it comfortably, and then you are viewing the screen at an angle? Steve apparently never realized that on-screen keyboards for large touch screen devices are HATED in the world. They aren't friendly at all.
AT&T 3G again. No CD/DVD drive. Because it's based on iPhone/iPod technology, you have to jailbreak it to do ANYTHING with it. It's not even in widescreen format! $700?????????
Not to mention it looks like a handicapped-accessible iPod Touch.
LOL! I 100% agree with you.
No flash
Non-functioning OS
Virtual keyboard that takes half the screen
No kick stand

The Kindle makes sense, better battery and better price.
In comparison, the iPad is like buying a new Mercedes without a spare tire, a radio, one rear-view mirror, and the ability to drive it outside of the county.

In the meantime, we have a couple of questions about the iPad:
1. Is there some kind of alternative tablet I can use in case I have to go swimming?
2. How will it stand up to other tablets if I pour a test tube full of blue water on it?
3. Will the 16-, 32- and 64-gig varieties be referred to as "light," "regular," and "super"?
4. Sometimes I leave food in my laptop bag. Can you make one that makes it smell like a light, spring rain?
5. I'm a cheerleader. Is it possible that the tablet could come flying out in the middle of a routine?
6. Can I still wear white pants? Will it make them look bulky?
7. Will my boyfriend be able to go to the Apple Store and buy it for me without being embarrassed?
8. If I pelted a shy girl with latent telekinetic powers with iPads, wouldn't she die?
9. If I have sex when I'm using the iPad, do I have to lay down a towel?

Yes, the Zune Tab has amazing underwater capabilities.
2. How will it stand up to other tablets if I pour a test tube full of blue water on it?
See answer #1.
3. Will the 16-, 32- and 64-gig varieties be referred to as "light," "regular," and "super"?
Of course. When we release bigger sizes, there will be Super-Plus and Ultra sizes!
4. Sometimes I leave food in my laptop bag. Can you make one that makes it smell like a light, spring rain?
At this time, we do not have the technology. We are planning a meeting with Tampax in the very near future, though. It is a strong possibility.
5. I'm a cheerleader. Is it possible that the tablet could come flying out in the middle of a routine?
Absolutely not if it's inserted into it's "case" properly.
6. Can I still wear white pants? Will it make them look bulky?
Unfortunately, it will. But, if you switch to what's known as the "baggy gangsta style," you will have no problems! Steve Jobs has already adopted this fashion.
7. Will my boyfriend be able to go to the Apple Store and buy it for me without being embarrassed?
No. Anyone who buys this will be embarrassed, including yourself.
8. If I pelted a shy girl with latent telekinetic powers with iPads, wouldn't she die?
Yes, we recommend that this not be done.
9. If I have sex when I'm using the iPad, do I have to lay down a towel?
Unfortunately, yes. I'm not going to go into detail as to why, but you can email me for more intimate answers at [email protected]

SOURCE : Kickedface
RIM CEO Thorsten Heins took to the stage to announce that RIM will be seeding Dev Alpha devices to developers for app testing. The device in question is not a commercial handset--in fact, it doesn't even work as a phone. Source : Asia Cnet
Heins, who was appointed CEO three months ago, pointed out that RIM is "making incredible progress on BB 10". He gave a quick onstage demo of what's in store for BB 10:
Notifications
The new notifications feature uses a swiping motion RIM calls "glancing". In any app, you can access your notifications simply by swiping sideways and keeping your finger on the screen. This brings up the notifications sidebar, and you can decide whether to continue or exit. During the onstage demo, RIM CEO Thorsten Heins noted that the swiping gesture flows across up to three applications back.
For the "glancing" feature to work, apps continue running realtime in the background and are not killed. We're a little worried about how this feature will affect battery life, though.
Keyboard
According to RIM's head of software portfolio, Vivek Bhardwaj, the new onscreen keyboard uses a "modelling algorithm" that's tailored to the user. Aesthetically, it's designed to look like the BB keyboard, complete with its renowned frets.
Bhardwaj's team must have gleaned some inspiration from Swype, because the new keyboard uses various intuitive gestures--for instance, swiping up and down for numbers and symbols, and backwards to delete words. While you're typing, word suggestions appear above the letters and you can swipe them upwards to add them to the message body. This is probably a lot faster than typing on a typical touchscreen device, but whether diehard BlackBerry users will consider it a worthy replacement for the company's famous physical keyboard remains to be seen.
Camera
RIM's current crop of BB 7 devices use continuous autofocus and hence lack a tap to focus function. BB 10 OS brings with it the ability to tap anywhere on the screen to focus and then shoot a picture.
That's not the most exciting and innovative feature of the camera app, though--it's the ability to go back "in time" to catch the perfect moment that caused the crowd to gasp audibly. For example, if you've captured the perfect photo but find that it's ruined by someone who is blinking, you can scroll a few frames forward or backward to the suitable moment. This saves the trouble of having your subject pose for another picture.
RIM also shared the stage with some developers, who showed off native BB 10 apps that have already been created. For example, Gameloft will have 11 games available on the platform when it's made available, and Pixelmags promised 10 free minutes of reading each month for its stable of e-magazines.
RIM is placing all its bets on the next-generation operating system (OS) to pull it out of its woes. It needs to restore investor and consumer confidence, as well as flagging smartphone sales. Based on what we've seen of BB 10 so far--as well as developers' works--there may be hope for the beleaguered company after all.
Stay tuned for more coverage from BlackBerry World coming soon.
Soooo....anyone having a bash at replicating the BB10 call screen as in the video? See 0:16 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEPYYo0-gfc
please anyone say?
In india,bb jam is on july 4th isn't it......so if we go to jam,can we get one alpha device?
NOTE:I HAVE 2 APPS ON BB APPWORLD.i am in kerala, maybe i will be coming to delhi
for bb 10 jam.....please reply
RIM is betting everything on BB 10, since the last couple of years they have been really quiet and releasing devices that are nothing to get exited, the hardware has been top quality but boring OS, by giving developers test devices they are trying to get developers on their side and work on their platform, it is strange how things work out guess that what makes an OS successful is the community that is behind it, I really loved web OS but never took off for a lot of reasons, so let's wait and see only time will tell if BB10 is a winner or not.....noob comment
That mock-up looks A LOT like an iPhone; just saying, first thing that came to mind. Anyway, seems like it has potential for people who want something that's clean and functional. I'm curious at least. Looks pretty decent. Not anything I'd pick up because it will just never have the customization abilities of Android, but might be something I'd recommend to friends, something I still can't really say for WP or Apple to some extent.

+1 for me an example how NOT to use the notification area. Not much room left for notifications compared to stock android.
Appreciate the good news! Im sure the Note 4 is getting it soon! I personally want the "s-connect and quick connect" to be an option so I can take it off the notification.
Hoping to get this b4 Christmas but my hope are not high....

In this video looks like Samsung will be put together little piece of Android 2.x,4.x and 5.x. It looks like crap. Why they not build proper version of Android 5.0?? Not just mix 3 years old Android with new?
Dialer and contacs are so ugly and years old. On stock 5.0 are so beutiful.

How many sales do you think it costs Samsung that their dialler and contacts app are ugly? 10,000? 100,000? There's no incentive for them to change it, especially when they're trying to establish a certain consistency so that there's familiarity for non-tech-savvy people who are used to Galaxy products. They'd lose more sales from people who would send it back because Samsung changed everything and now they can't figure out how to text their grandkids.
Just keep voting with your wallet. If stock's beautiful to you, buy a stock device.
Couldn't agree more. Remember this isn't a HTC.

Actually, it'll depend on the implementation, which we can't really see from the static image. We'll need to see a video to see if the quick shortcuts/brightness slider/S-view shortcuts are part of the initial pull-down view.
To explain: on a Nexus 5/6, the initial view on a pull-down gesture shows app/persistent notifications only. A further pull-down shows the notifications transition into quick access shortcuts exclusively. This second pull-down view actually takes up MORE space than Samsung's current implementation -- there is room for just one set of notifications at the bottom, with multiple notifications sort of "stacked" like cards. You can check videos of the Lollipop notification center running on a Nexus 6 to get a better idea of what I mean.
So until we see how Sammy actually implemented it, it's too soon to say whether it takes too much space. For all we know, it's also a two pull-down implementation and the pics tweeted show the transition phase. The build that they showed for the S5 (in the video) was a very early build -- they didn't even want to post it because wi-fi (or something else, I can't recall which) wasn't working, so we can't draw conclusions from that. In fact, the current app switcher on a Note 4 is closer in appearance to the app switcher of stock android Lollipop than the one that shipped with the S5 so my inclination is that Sammy will attempt to emulate stock Android a bit more -- as Google has been pushing them (and other OEMs) to do.
My main hope is that Sammy does something about its color palette selection and the archaic tab UI on the dialer and elsewhere. I can see from the S5 videos that it's better but it's still around a generation behind. Something's off with the colors they've chosen for current Touchwiz and the video does show some improvement in that area. I hope the trend is in that direction. The Note 4 is a good piece of hardware kit and deserves an equally solid-looking UI.

Dialer and contacs are so ugly and years old. On stock 5.0 are so beutiful.

Why not just buy a Nexus 6 then? If Samsung made it look like stock Android then what would be the point of them making their Galaxy phones? Touchwiz is Touchwiz. It will NEVER look like stock Android. Ever.
Well this is good news though as per usual some will get it by Christmas and others in February or something horrible like that.

Yeah. The sad bit for our Note 4's that we don't exactly have recourse to custom ROMs since there are all these different variants -- not to mention we have two processors -- so an early release for one variant doesn't mean it'll get ported for all the others.
I prefer the Samsung implementation of quick toggles, the stock toggles aren't as easily accessible, what with either 2 finger pull down or 2 pulls on the notification bar.

Definitly agree
I'll belive it once we have a ota
Ive got lollipop on my N7 and the notification area is a pain. Double pull down and then having to scroll up just to get to the clear all button. Never thought id say it but I now prefer skinned android, including touchwiz!
I was going to get a N6 until i used it on my N7. Put me right off.
Do I get one custom xda device profile badge, because of it being an official xda sponsored device? LoL! Joking of course!
This thing does remind me of the Unihertz Titan OG, and how quirky that clunky Passport Personification, or the HTC Touch Pro2 when it got to being flashworthy with all diverted kinds of Rom's and OS'es.
I got it specifically for flashing, but it's so beta-type is funny and admirable in a kinda lovely halfhearted sense of how crazy it acts.
Fortunately, I didn't spend full price on it, lucked out and got one off eBay for $400.
Much more worth this price, cause of the following laughable quirks;
1. If you're powered off and plug in a charger, it powers right up.
2. Touchscreen is sensitive and seems to have ghost touches, not cause of a broken screen but like trying to long press to get the context menu to popup in the browser and so on etc.
3. Fingerprint scanner in the completely wrong place, can't tell you how many times Iberia accidentally hit and not meant to.
4. The same could go for camera shutter button.
5. Tremendously slow speeds for 4g/LTE.
So far, this is all I've noticed on the first half a day's use.
Attempting to transition from Unihertz Titan Pocket and UTP is holding on to my heart still. But again, f(X)Tec Pro1-x IMO and usage is a modding flasher phone.
So what all flavors do we have and is it in these forums or f(x)tec's, I'm curious about SailfishOS and a few others.
I believe you are the first guy who has hands on the fxtec phone and openly admitted using it.
Here you go. You deserve this badge.

Wished I would've researched it a bit more, I see the regular Pro1 has a lot more rom's.

Oh did i forget to mention....
Bug 6. Jumpy, jittery, tourettes like hyperactive bouncy screen scrolls.
LMAO
This poor thing is a real test of patience!
I pulled out the UTP just to be able to type and post this. Ha

Looks like lineage supports the pro1x.
LineageOS Downloads

You can try and be an alpha tester for the same.

I've really been considering SailfishOS, again as I mentioned, I mainly got this for flashing, hopefully Linux Mobile too, so it's really just an early adaptation device, which is why I compared it to the days of Windows Mobile and Android just getting really popular on WinMo devices such as the LG Fathom, HTC Touch Pro2, HTC HD2 and MAGLDR / Android2SD. Especially compared to the first two for PKB devices with the versatility to flash multiple OS'es to it.
One other thing, I wouldn't really call it a bug, but this dang pesky sim tray.
7. That darn notch in the dim tray is a real PAIN! LMAO
