OK well i was installing Darkys latest rom. I was at the point where i was in
download mode and odin. While odin was loading files the usb slipped out of the
phone because nothing besides the stock usb cord happens to stay firmly in the
charging port on this phone. This is the 2nd time this happed but when it
happened this time my phone just stopped working and by stop working i mean i
get absolutely no picture on the screen. nothing happens when its plugged into
power cord or usb cord. nothing. tried holding all 3 buttons in tons of times and
nothing.
Im out of warranty and got no insurance. I did get att to give me 180 credit cuz
i threatened to cancel. so if i cant fix this im gonna use a crappy prepaid phone
for the time being. If the SGS2 doesnt come out by march then ill probably get
an axtrix even tho i would rather get SGS2.
So please does anyone know of anything i can try?? i'm probably gonna goto an att store and try a new battery. Any suggestions would be appreciated???
You tried pulling everything, plug in usb, hold rocker, put back in batt? My understanding is, if you have the bad luck of that cable coming out while loading the boot loader then you r indeed SOL.

Double spacing isn't necessary. We aren't going to grade your post.
You hopefully now understand that flashing to stock isn't the way to avoid problems; it's the way to create big ones.
Try removing the battery, wait a couple of minutes, plug in USB, hold volume up+down, while holding up+down insert the battery and see if that gets you back into download mode.

I tried all that. Ive probably flashed every single rom in the development section of the forum.
If it gets unplugged while doing an update then usually it displays the phone..!..computer picture and you can still get into download mode from there. I'm getting nothing tho.
the reason i think it could be the battery is because it may have been pretty close to dying which is stupid for flashing when it was close to dead but i wanted to hurry up because i had to leave the house. i'm wondering if since the software on there now is corrupt would that make the phone unable to charge. thats why i want to try a new battery

just tried what you recommended and nothing happened. tried it a few times. Thanks for helping. I really hope the SGS2 comes out in march. I am not wasting my upgrade on an old phone and i dont really want the atrix

I don't think a jig will help. Usually it is used when your buttons never worked.... but hey... only a couple bucks vs the cost of a new phone.

yeah i know my buttons work, i just cant get my phone to turn on at all. also tried multiple chargers and usb cables. I think i'm screwed. im hoping someone on here heard of this problem before but ive never read anything about it on here before.
Using a POS phone till the SGS2 comes out is gonna suck
anyone know anything?
I will be trying another battery today.
Besides a jig, I have nothing else for you sorry.
But on a different spectrum, if you do get a new phone, dont get the atrix, it is the worst phone out of all the phones coming out on att. Get the inspire our the infuse if you dont want to hold a dinner plate to your head.

juts tried a new a battery and still nothing.
I'm now rocking a Nokia 2320.
SGS2 I guess but i think i'm gonna be waiting a long time.
this nokia is so bad i dont think im going to make it thru the end of the month
Try the jig. It can not make things worse for you and MAY actually work for your issue.

phone needs to be able to power on for a jig to work.
how are you out of warranty? (besides the custom rom) the phone has a 1 year warranty and it is not been on the market that long.
if the phone *happened* to be *dammaged* in a way that they would never notice AND would NEVER be able to read the memory (with out spending thousands of dollars), THEY WOULD NEVER KNOW you flashed custom rom and voided your warranty. they would try to test it, nope, broken, NEXT...
and SGS2 expected in june

yeah your right i still am in warranty but 2 weeks after i got the phone i dropped it and the screen cracked but the cracks not that bad. So i cant warranty the device because the crack. I did get att to give me $180 credit on my bill. $30 of every 6 month.
Ive heard the international version of the SGS2 will be out long before the att version will be. So i might use my upgrade on an iphone 4 and then sell it and buy the international SGS2.
what do you guys think about that idea?

Ok i know there is probably something already out there but im REALLY FREAKING OUT. I updated to 1.8 and throughout the day it killed my battery and i got home and was gonna flash back to 1.5 and while RSD was flashing it failed. I then realized i forgot one of the most important steps... To have a full battery.. i think my phone died while flashing... is it bricked? If so im f************cked... please respond.
If i did brick it, is there anyway i can contact moto support and get a new device?
Edit: I unplugged it from my pc and pulled the battery and plugged it back in. My pc recognizes it as a USB Mass storage device... is there still hope for me?
Ok so after sitting here for a while my phone booted back up i did notice that RSD lite managed to create a image thing? Idk what that is so im just guessing that maybe thats what saved me cause i could have sworn i read that it would for sure brick your device. Run on sentence. Spare me grammar Nazis. Anyways the phone is back up and running and you can be damn sure im going to charge this all the way before i try anything like that again. thanks for the quick responses and sorry for making a new thread for this... feel like i spazzed out if a mod could remove this thread?

I cant answer the other question because I dont know, but if you have insurance or whatever its called on your phone if it really does turn out to be bricked then you could have it replaced using that... (from what I heard if you do have that you only get like 1 or 2 replaces before they wont let you do it again for the year just an fyi)
and I mean insurance through AT&T not moto

Charge the battery fully and turn it on. Try reflashing the sbf and see what happens.

I would first try and re-flash it... but if it does not work then I leave that up to you and your conscious about getting insurance for it after its already messed up and stuff... but I would suggest even if you do get it to work, you may want to invest in that if you plan on doing a lot of developing on it or anything like that, which gives you a chance to brick your phone.
hey guys, so i have the newest lp bootloader, i installed microkat for testing purposes, then i saw blisspop v3.0 is out, then i downloaded, flashed and it was well over 20 minutes, so i pressed and held power button to get out of the stuck flash process, and then when i go to do power button + vol down to get into recovery it just powers off the device, i do have a low battery, and alot of the fastboot stuffs say low battery, so i left it to charge then i flashed this all + twrp 2.8.6.0:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/bootloader-update-t3060007
and still whe ni try to enter recovery or factory reset from the menu it just powers off
so please help me get my device booting!

Thing is no matter what charger i use i have to fiddle it and theres no sure way if it will charge, my device now wont even boot up, i think its the battery issue but ive tried 4 chargers, all of them are the same, no sure way if my phone is charging or not... i think ill submit it to warranty, problem is i have local warranty not Motorola one, so they have different rules, they only accept devices that are not "jailbroken" (thats what the warrenty rules say, so i will see what they can do, maybe some nice talk will get me in there good books lol

In the US Motorola warranty is void if u unlock the bootloader and root it...Which I have done...But when I needed a new screen (because of a bad pixel) they didn't care and got me a free replacement
Try calling Motorola and say "I was updating to lollipop (with 80% charge) and all of a sudden the phone went black ....Blame Motorola.....I used a similar excuse when I bricked my S3 and Samsung bought it....
Hope all goes well

FunkyHuawei has taken kind of a weird turn recently, starting with a total conversion from a 'credit' system to a subscription model. They released info about this on the 10th, on their Twitter account:
https://mobile.twitter.com/FunkyHuawei
A monthly fee... Hmm, I wonder why. Could it be that their new workaround to get 'root' on the Mate 20 Pro is a very fragile hack that doesn't actually unlock the bootloader, and can (and will) be disabled with *ANY* kind of update - be it firmware or otherwise? Yeah, that is what else they announced - that they have a working hack to 'kinda' get root on the Mate 20 Pro. It is detailed here:
https://funkyhuawei.club/root
A few things to note from this:
1) They seem to only be able to do it for 3 distinct models: LYA-L29, LYA-L09, LYA-L0C. Yay for Canadians, I guess?
2) They can (or will) *only* perform this service over remote control of your computer, via TeamViewer. That kinda makes me cringe, for too many reasons to list. It doesn't mean it is necessarily shady, but if given the option I would rather not go down that road.
3) The service is PRICEY. Even though they only announced it three days ago, the 'opening sale' is over after today, and will normally cost $190 USD. (It is on 'sale' at the moment for $165). This is pretty damned expensive, given the, er... 'transient' nature of the hack - and the obvious reliance on the subscription model as a result.
4) They are a little vague about this one, but even though they have also come up with a way to flash any firmware to any phone, even if the OEM bootloader unlock is grayed out, this hack seems to only work with specific versions of firmware. In other words, they are likely going to do a downgrade and they certainly aren't going to promise future proof. This... Isn't good.
5) They clearly state that any changes to anything will break the hack, and that is on YOU. In other words, they are hinting that even with the new subscription model you would need to pay full price for them to perform this remote service every time. Not only that, they are not responsible for anything going wrong, even during their initial attempt. That is standard practice for this kind of thing I guess, but at that price?
I can't see myself going for this. It sounds too flakey to be worth it. Honestly it looks like we just have to hold out hope that someone brute forces the encryption on the algorithm used to generate the bootloader unlock codes, or a solid working hack to get around it. FH is charging this kind of money because they are betting that there will never be any other way to get 'root' on a Mate 20 Pro, even though this smells a lot like the tethered jailbreaks for the iphones that were so fragile they could break if the wrong app was executed never mind rebooting the phone.
To anyone who goes this route, let us know how it works out. It sounds like once successful (and if you never flash the firmware) you ARE able to install a working SU/Magisk onto the phone yourself. They go out of their way to say that they will flash a TWRP recovery to the phone if you wish, but they won't put any root on it themselves. Again, probably a legal thing more than anything else.
I wish Huawei would just sell us bootloader unlock codes.
I think there's no discussion because of what you've already outlined and that, based on their recent track record, no one really trusts them.
The reason they'll only do it over Team Viewer is because they don't want to give you the tools in order to 1) force you to go back to them when it gets reverted by an update and 2) to stop the tools getting shared. If they connect to your PC then they can download what they need from their servers (securely using authentication) run it then clean up after themselves so as not to leave anything behind.
As you say, they're relying on there being no alternative and that M20P owners become desperate enough to go this route but I can't see that many going for it.

Hmm, that sounds exactly like what they would do. We need someone to go through this and pull off a bit of a hack of their own and keep all the software/data they download onto your computer. I wonder how paranoid they are, surely they don't go so far as to run tools that wipe the free space left when they delete their own stuff? Meh, this sounds like kind of a flaky hack - so far. I don't have a problem with them charging for a good service but $200 is a LOT for something that can't survive basic firmware upgrades.
I am glad no one is talking about this, because they are a piece of crap. They only want to steal our money. 100$+ for crap hack... Ahahah.
Funkyhuawei are nothing but scammers.
Yes, Just scammers, First of all, we should not promote them on XDA.
Fully agree with what is written in the previous post and I would never go to this service.
What remains is to point at the real source of all this, namely Huawei and their refusal to allow bootloader unlocking. Why in all heavens is it not possible for them to do it like many other companies do? In the light of all this I sadly state that the Mate 20 Pro was my first and last Huawei phone !

There's always One Plus where you pay $700 for a $300 phone with an upgraded processor and have to use custom ROMs that always have bugs because Oxygen is an ineptly coded train-wreck.
Strange how nobody seems to mind that XDA has been shilling for One Plus for years.
But at least you can unlock the bootloader, right?

But you can always use your huawei warrenty and get a battered device returned to you right?
$190 for a "root but not root" solution is just daylight robbery. I dont think FH are welcome here anymore...

You did not receive the level of service you were shown on funky (scammer) website and than your phone got messed up as well that's enough to appeal, try it and see what they say. my mi8 (10.3.2.0) went black after i downloaded a big picture file. it will not start any more. There is not option to join fastboot. The only possible thing is that qualcom usb was shown in USB setting in Computer. I changed battery and charging port already. There is no change... The phone will not start.
The only sign of life is: sometimes the led near ear hearing lits 2 times if i push power button. The same reaction when i plug power in or connect to Computer. This behavior changes. Sometimes the led goes 1 per 2sec all the time if i push power or connect/charge it. Sometimes no led reaction was Seen. What happened?

First, I have helped many people unbrick their phones using the following steps. But I have not yet had the need to do these steps on a Mi8. So if this works please report back and click thanks.
You need to get the phone into EDL mode, in a worse case scenario you can do that by using a EDL cable
Assuming that your Device is a Global Device
Download this Fastboot Rom : http://en.miui.com/download-346.html Download the Full Stable fastboot version and not the Recovery version.
if your device is the China version : Here is the link for the Stable China Rom
Your bootloader may be relocked, I am not sure. But as long as the device is registered to you, you should not have any issues unlocking it again.
Use a PC
Make sure that you enable system wide ADB privileges.
Next download the fastboot rom and unpack it.
Unpack rom
Look for the file called flashall.bat ( see screenshot)
Double click, wait for it to finish
when it completes, the software on your phone will be wiped and restored to like new
As long as the phone is registered to you and you can sign into your account , I don't expect that you will have any issues.

thanks a lot. I have some questions:

Your Data is gone, my steps are for fixing the phone, if you absolutely must have the data, you will need to take your phone into a shop that has the tools to read the chip and recover your data. Yes, the steps that I mentioned will fully wipe your device.

That also means, that after it, the phone is out of order..... There is not other way in EDL to read the data? There was TWRP before on the phone. Is there a way only to flash the bootloader of phone, after it i can use fastboot with twrp image and then i get connection to my data?
Thanks a lot

I can not find the file you mentioned in the screenshot. I downloades MI8Global stable rom. Or do you mean developer rom?
That also means, that after it, the phone is out of order..... There is not other way in EDL to read the data? There was TWRP before on the phone. Is there a way only to flash the bootloader of phone, after it i can use fastboot with twrp image and then i get connection to my data?
Thanks a lot

I downloaded the Stable rom ( FASTBOOT ROM ) from the link that I posted, and then took a screenshot. The name of the fastboot is : dipper_global_images_V10.3.2.0.PEAMIXM_20190508.0000.00_9.0_global
It sounds like you downloaded the Recovery rom. (AS mentioned it needs to be the fastboot rom)
Regarding Data, you need to take it to a shop for that. there is absolutely no conventional way to recover data from a bricked device, you need a special tool for that, and if the data is encrypted the tool will not work either
Edit:
One last things, its possible that your battery has and issue, or there may be a problem with the usb port. Did you experience any issues with power spikes, excessive heat, or liquid damage?

Sorry to hear about your troubles, I have never filed a warranty claim with Xiaomi so I am not sure if their service is good or not. Hopefully they are good to their customers. On the other hand, parts for this phone are actually inexpensive, I am so shocked by the low prices, I will go ahead and by some parts just in case ( we have 3 Mi'8s in our house)
When you take the phone to the shop, have them test the flex cable. It looks like this : https://www.ebay.com/itm/Motherboar...508657?hash=item1ef9a74831:g:1g0AAOSwCgFcx~Ar I have seen similiar issues on other phones and in some cases the issue was just the flex cable, or simply reseating the cables will sometimes work. Just test it before reassembling the phone. Are you sure that you didn't damage the amoled screen when you removed it?

Let me say it in this way: Xiaomi customer support said: We can not help you, please contact your purchase office..... The problem is that they do no react since the beginning. No mail answer, no ebay answer, no facebook answer.....

Well i think the screen is ok. I just remember one fact. Once, why i did not know, the mobile started and went black after 3 min. The mobile was lying in the sun at the windows. I try to give the mi8 to a friend, who is going to china next month. There are no shops or repair services here in germany. The only thing the others do, is chaging batterie or charging port for about 70€ each.
The most thing i rembember when i will buy a new one is that i will have to buy a mobile with extra SD slot. The time i spended is much more worth than the mobile will ever be. My last phones of samsung had never such problems, even if i bricked them by trying to bypass know while rooting...
Thanks

Unfortunately you have had some really bad luck, and from what I have read and been told, it's pretty unusual for a Xiaomi phone to fail so soon. I am left questioning whether or not Xiaomi's reaction is based on how long you have owned the phone? It's really strange to tell you to contact the vendor for warranty service, unless you have owned the phone for less than 90 days. In addition, I am really disappointed in Xiaomi for giving you such poor service. If you end up buying another phone, One Plus would be a good option, I have read that they are slow but that they do offer decent product support. Your experience will definitely influence my next purchase, incredible!
It's great to hear that you have a friend visiting China. Especially if your friend plans to visit southern China. He could easily find someone in a Szechuan tech market that would repair it while he waits and it would be dirt cheap. ( I spent 3 months in China about 12 years ago ) and it's a very awesome place to visit. In my experience there, vendors will quote a foreigner a high price at first. I would usually offer them 75% less, and most of the time they will usually take it., If not, I would so okay no thanks, and walk away, and they would usually come after me and agree to the price. However, if I was quoted a really reasonable price, I would not try to negotiate.
Good Luck, maybe the solder on your motherboard shorted from the heat, i that is the case your existing components can be reballed and the phone would be good as new. I actually had a solder issue on my last phone, but it was my fault.
Good Luck

You are right, my other xiaomi last since 4 Years without any problem. I dropped them several times and also the fell in the water, without any problems.
My Mi8 was from October 2018. I used a "lovemei" Cover, never dropped it until it went black. If you look at it, there no sign of any use.
Here in Germany we have no official service. I have to contacted the Shop where I bought for several times. The is no answer until now. No facebook, no email and no ebay answer. Until now the are not selling any phones anylonger. I think they do not exist anymore. Perphaps the just changed their name. Though the sell it per UK shop, they are from Hong Kong. So the is not possible to get any solution with them.

I had several Samsung mobiles until now. Never had any problems with them. Once I broke my note4 and i wrote to Samsung. After paying 80€ the mobile was fixed... Though i rooted it before and the KNOX status was 1. In october I decited to buy Xiaomi MI8 after a long decision. Until it broke I liked it. There is no one to blame, that it broke. And even when the would be no chance of getting my data back or get it repair... Things just happen. But I will never acept the behavior of the vendor. Never.

He is a chinese man, so I think he should handle it, in his own country.
But the internal SD card is on the motherboard I think, so all my data will be lost...
Thanks

P.s. I think, perhaps I buy a Samsung again, because I never had problems in the last 10 Years

Good luck, I just bricked my Mi8 yesterday for the first time. By testing something for a friend. I had a similar issues to yours but in my case I was able to restore the phone by using the flashall.bat method that I mentioned earlier.
Top tier Samsung and iPhones may be pricy but without a doubt they last seemingly forever. In fact I still have every Samsung and Apple device that I have ever owned and every single unit still works flawlessly!
Both of those companies use Grade A1 components, which are much less likely to fail, so at the end of the day the cost is truly justified. On the other hand, Xiaomi uses quality components as well and they too have a fairly excellent reputation, so maybe in your case it's just a case of bad luck. I also use the lovemei case, and it's heavy but extremely protective, it reminds me of the old Galaxy S5 Otter cases. I watch my thermals like a hawk and never overclock and my phone stays very cool in this case, I will bet that when you phone is finally fixed that it will be a simple solution such as static electricity.
Now that I have remembered about the effects of static , if you still have the phone, unplug the battery. Press and hold the power for 10 seconds the plug the battery back in again. That may enable your phone to work again. I can't believe that I forgot about that option.
Good luck ?
