Hi Guys.
I transfer data from my Android phone to PC regularly. transferring stuff from PC to PC with ethernet I get regular speed of 115MB/s via 1Gbps connection.
Now even when I'm standing right next to my ATT router I see a constant connection of 866 Mbps on my Note 9. But when I wirelessly transfer data from the phone to my PC or vice versa I only get 5MB/s on my Note 9 via ES File explorer.
Converting megabits to megabyte I should be getting a lot more than 5MB/s.
I am looking to get a faster router this holiday season. The router I'm looking at has AC3000 3,000 Mbps (1733 + 866 + 400Mbps) Dedicated Backhaul4x4 (1.7Gbps) WiFi TechnologyTri-band which will be right next to my work area.
should I expect any faster data-transfer via Wi-Fi if I'm standing right next to my router. Or do you guys think I will be limited to 5MB/s.
For comparison using PC I am getting 25-30MB/s wireless transfer speed with a 600Mbps connection using AC-7260.
My goal is to transfer stuff from my Android phone to my PC on Wi-Fi at a much faster speed. Please let me know if that's possible.
I understand that fastest most efficient way is USB C but sometimes i need to transfer just a single video I shot and it's much more easier to do it wirelessly via ES Browser as connecting the phone via USB C and waiting for 500 thumbnails to load in windows browser so I can locate that 1 file takes a few mins.

internal storage or sd card were you testing the transfer on?

Internal storage. Copying directly to default download folder via ES File explorer.

have tried the other way around?
use an app like wifi file explorer to start a local web server on the phone and then type in your computers browser the phones adress/port
if its also slow as hell then at least you'd have tested multiple ways...
Have you tried transferring the data using the default File Manager that comes bundled with Samsung's OS?

Hello there,
Im not sure this is possible so here goes..
I am using the works connection, however they have pretty much everysite blocked, so i want to use my phones connection (kaiser with WnW+).
Now if i unplug my works network cable i can browse the internet through the kaisers internet connection (Local Area Connection 10 on here) but obviously can't access my network drives.
Now what i want to do is have both my works connection and my kaiser in, but i want the browser to use my phones connection NOT the works connection, however i still need my network drive etc.
Sorry if i have confused you or you don't understand.
In order to keep your work's connection active at the same time as your phone's, you would need software for Windows that forces port 80 to go out through Local Area Network 10.
Thank you for your help. Sorry to be a pain but do you know any software which i could get?
nope.
Get a junky computer, install ubuntu or any other flavor of linux, then install squid (a proxy server).. Lastly google the words..
ssh tunneling putty windows
you can get around most firewalls this way.
Thanks for that....
But i don't want to do that.
Then have fun not getting what you want.

haha that was a funny reply.
Try getting software that redirects your traffic on port 80 through a different LAN connection as stated earlier. This is possible. I currently have 2 browsers, one browser going through a VPN connection and the other using a LAN connection.
And notice how the sofware wasn't named.

Found the name for you. It's Juniper networks, Secure Application Manager. When connected depending on which applications you have configured they will go through the tunnel or not. So when the app is in use, IE can only browse sites through that tunnel, so I install Firefox to browse all other sites.
ok heres my problem. i dont have internet atm. i am using cyanogen. i have my phone connected to wifi that i am picking up of a nearby router... i tethered that to my pc.
everything works great. have about 5mb down and 1 mb up.
as soon as i try to run utorrent it works for a few min then bam connection gone. and the wifi on the g1 crashes or something and i have to reboot the phone.
i tried limiting the the upload bandwidth to 1 kb/s. it seems when i open firefox while utorrent is running it floods the connection somehow. i dont know what to do. only thing i can think of is that there are to many connections coming into the phone and it cant handle it...
any thoughts?
basically i just want to be able to run utorrent and a stable speed without crashing the tethered connection
Same thing happens to me on a high speeds connection, I would get anywhere from 80-xxxxmb and it would just crash at random. This wasn't through torrents but just regular HTTP/FTP downloads with 2-4 congruent connections.
It didn't happen when I was house sitting for my grandma who has 1mb down.
I found that the program PDAnet worked better for high speed connections.
I agree with your theory about the phone getting stuck with the flood of incoming connections causing the crash.
i also tried limiting the download speed of the torrent seemed to work ok for a while i was able to get half a movie downloaded. then the connection just crashed.
I ll try pdanet. i just dont want to pay for the full app, if there is something i could tweak using the built in tether option for cyanogen
I doubt it, I tried all the settings and it still crapped out.
A $10 USB dongle is worth it if it means that much to you. I use a dd-wrt enabled router now instead of my phone, just needed something in the interim while I was getting everything set with the router.
I'm trying to use the computer's wifi connection to send TO the Captivate; the phone is having those wifi issues with the school's internet and until I get that fixed I can't really use that much data.
I was wondering if there was a way to use the computer's wifi through usb or it's own wifi connection? Thanks in advance.
Oh and I'm using a custom 2.2.1 rom
Like ftp? If so, try On Air from the market.
What OS are you using on your computer. If you are using a Windows machine and are have it plugged into the LAN you can set up an AD/HOC network. Google the process as the process varies per XP Vista and Win 7. However if you are using your computers wifi to connect to the schools wireless then I am not sure on what you can do.
Thanks for the input guys; and yea charlier, I thought about making an ad hoc network but sadly I'm using my computer's wifi to connect to the internet so that won't work.
Yesterday I bit the bullet and upgraded to the 2gb data plan and I'm loving it; with the ROM I'm getting better battery life, OC/UV benefits, the ability to side load, and ATT's network speed is amazing here (H+).
Hi!
when im downloading files from pc to phone using wifi/astro-samba im having max 1mbps speed. is it considered to be normal?
host pc is conected to router by lan
router: Netgear WNDR3700, b/g/n, WPA2-PSK [AES]
any hints to increase dl speed?
phone: lg optimus 2x, cyanogen nightly 11x
When I upload a file to another computer from my phone on my network the speed is 1,5 MB/Sec. The computer is on LAN, same as you but a D-Link router..
Download speed I don't know, probably the same
What's the distance to the router? The speed changes a lot with the distance. If I put the phone next to the router, I've reached speed of 4-5Mb/sec (600Mb in 2 minutes).
Regards!
Well... windows file protocol, aka samba, is probably part of your issue. It's a piece of crap
Throught rtorrent, my phone was downloading at 600kbits/s ....
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App

Me too. I got fiber home and I easily get the 25mbit I got, both ways. Through one or two walls to actually.
my speed wi-fi (use ftp\smb)
PC (D-Link DWA-140 RangeBooster N USB) -> LG O2x = 7-8mbit\s
PC (D-Link DWA-140 RangeBooster N USB) -> GPAD GFORCE = 14-16mbit\s
File transfer to my note 5 over home network WAN with smb/ftp (using ES file explorer) is very slow. The speed starts out at 100 kilobytes per second and drops from there to around 25 Kb/s aftet 15 seconds or so. This problem is specific to my Note 5 because other devices on the network get around 2 megabytes/second ( tried galaxy tab, laptop).
I have also tried using plex server to stream to note 5. This is also very slow. Also, plex is fast to other networked . Again, this is over local WAN, not through the internet. Internet wifi download speeds are 10-20X faster to my note 5 compared to the local server.
However, uploads from the Note 5 to other network devices are OK (2 megabyte per second). So it seems to be download specific.
Router is an old tplink wirless G. Ftp server is filezilla on windows 7. This machine is connected to the router via LAN.
Also, internet download speed on note 5 is good over wifi (2mbps and above).
Any ideas about what is causing the slow transfers?
Note 5 is stock ROM rooted with arter kernel and philz touch. Problem exsisted pre and post root.
