Hi everyone, kinda need advice regarding my Note 8's iris scanner. Apparently my iris scanner is not working. I have read through the forums stating that wiping the cache partition and so forth but still no hope. Did a full reset through recovery. Btw, phone is never rooted and never clean flashed before. On 8.0 now.
Any advise is highly appreciated.
I would take your device to a Samsung Service Center and let them take a look at it. As there is a chance that this is a hardware issue that needs to be repaired or replaced

hey there, thanks for your reply. I brought it to a Samsung Service Centre yesterday and they said the sensor needs replacement which costs around 8000 baht.. I'm currently in Thailand. Then I asked if will the water proofing/water resistant will still remain after going through the repair.. they said YES... hmm.. kinda doubt if it still is able to resist water though..

If you get it done from the Samsung Service Center it should be fine. As they have the necessary tools to maintain the IP certification rating.

Use face recognition instead, if it works. I used the Iris scanner only in the beginning and found it very unreliable. Face recognition works well. If not I use my PIN. Keep it simple. LJ

Hello,
Last weekend i dropped my phone and now there is a big crack in my screen. I want to repair my phone by Samsung. I have to pay for the reparation, but that doesn't matter. But I think there is one problem, I do not have the official firmware on my i9000. Do they care about the unofficial firmware? Or does Samsung not care, if you pay Samsung for the reparation?
Thank you,
Jelle

If they're fixing things outside of warranty like this, they won't care. They only care if they're paying to fix it through warranty and you've messed around with the hardware/software (because that would probably be the cause of the problem)

i had the same thing once, too. luckily, i had usb debug on, and could even see something by using some program which transmits the screen via usb. don't remember its name though.
anyway, so i got to wipe it. But as said, i don't think this will matter. but this way you might at least be able to do a backup.

Questions I need answered if I go that route:
Will I get charged? I don't want to be charged for a defective phone. And what will I use for a phone in the mean time? How long does a repair usually take? Is my phone still gonna be ip68 certified after they open the phone? They won't factory reset my phone will they? I don't want to lose everything I have on the phone from a factory reset. At least if they gave me a new phone I can smart switch.
No charge of course if camera is faulty as result of manufacturing defect, then at a guess at least a week possibly longer before returning; another guess that the ip68 could be negatively affected; doubt it requires factory reset but having backup always recommended; not impossible but unlikely a new phone would be sent. That said, if you can bear the camera being the way it is then all is well.
Send it to Samsung directly for repair or stop by at one of their youbreakifix affiliated repair centers .
Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
My Note 9 did the exact same thing. Sent to Samsung last Monday and they replaced the camera. It is replaced under warranty. Just make sure you have a backup phone because they are slow and offer no other option to prevent you from being phone-less.
Thanks everyone. I see they have a repair center here in Manhattan, I'll bring it there.
If you have a UBreakIFix store near you, go there! They use the same equipment as Samsung, have Samsung OEM parts, and it will still be IP68 when they repair it. Depending on the issue, it usually only takes them an hour or so. And since they are a Samsung official partner, it won't affect your warranty. My local store here is AWESOME. They fixed my son's Pixel XL for free since they are a Google partner as well. Highly, highly recommend.
i have the same exact problem and as i typed i just came from ubreakifix to pick up my phone and they assured me that ip68 still retain but i still have a very little doubt. but yes they got it fixrd really good.

Hi, after the March update, I found my Galaxy Note 9 screen turned yellow..
I turned off the screen, unlocked the screen and the screen back to normal..but the yellow screen will reappear...
Some people say it's a hardware problem and replace their LCD, but some people assume that Samsung technicians don't want to get dizzy and just say "you have to replace the LCD"
There is someone who brought this to the Samsung center, the technician just looked without checking further and said "the LCD has been broken" and he fixed it via safe mode (IDK the detail)
And some people solve this problem with FW flash via Odin..
I'm curious, do custom ROM users experience yellow screen too? is this really a hardware problem?
Thanks, and sorry for bad English

Those affected should. Samsung is greedy to force for hardware replacement instead of fixing their software. Samsung hardwares are expensive. In my country screen replacement for note 9 is about half of the second hand value of this phone.
Have you tried wiping the Cache Partition in Recovery Mode?

Note 9 yellowish scree
hi I've faced the yellowish screen problem recently. My phone is 1 year and 7 months old. I visited samsung service center in my city in India. 1st they told me it was your fault that because of your mishandling this has happened and some brainless person told me to go for replacement which cost around 21000 rs(300$) in India. But then i asked them to find any dent, crack or even a scratch on body or glass if its mishandling. Then i showed them this article. https://www.sammobile.com/news/galaxy-note-9-march-2020-security-update-broken-screen/
Manager head technician accepted the fact that this wasn't my fault any kept phone with him. After 20-25 days now i have my phone with screen replaced without giving a single penny. Samsung is such greedy company that pushes such faulty updates and loot consumers like they haven't looted us enough with such heavy priced phones.

Which city ?.
Because in Bangalore they kept for my phone for a week and returned it without doing anything.
Same issue not a single scratch, dent or bump. Mint phone. But Audio Dead.
They told me to my face and in writing that no Note 9 users have reported any problems after the update.
I told them to visit XDA and their own company community pages but they ignored me.
They demanded that the only way they would help is if I paid 26500 to replace the board. ANd even that would take weeks. Due to present situation.
Another guy in another city was quoted 18K for his Note 9 main board. So it seems they can charge what they want.
There is no fixed rate. They cant even match the rates on their own web site.
Lets just say you got very lucky or you have good contacts.

I am in Surat. I didn't have any contacts in Samsung service center. I went there and requested to look upon my problem. 1st the illiterate girl at the desk ignored me but when the manager/chief engineer came to know about the problem he peacefully heard me. I used my "Being A Doctor trump card" to further make him believe that i was no joking and lying. And ultimately I was lucky. Though i was very much prepared to go in consumer court if that failed.
They just returned my phone and told me to come back when I was willing to pay 26500 for a new board.
I have started a new Face Book Page Called Samsung India worst company.

did not work! can you give more information !?
Looks weird but its working for me, tap to switch on always on display then open the phone with fingerprint or other methods, screen becomes normal !!
So I opted to fix my own phone.
WHat I found was that the over heating had cause some microscopic balls of lead to have melted during the over heating and these were all over the main board. I suspect some got under the Amplifer 98512 IC. So I purchased the part form china for 2$. Purchased a microscope and fix it myself.
I also cleaned the main board in ultrasonic machine to make sure all the small balls were dislodged. Its been over a week and my phone is working fine.
I suspect if you try all the software options and nothing works. Open the back cover and look for these tiny balls. If you see them clean the board and put it back it may start working. If it has shorted something off course you will see the damage. May times just a clean and re-seating the flex cable solves the problem.
I wonder if Samsung return your old board if they charge you for a new one.
Hey, download this app PWMfree by going to this link https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78953726&postcount=48 this will resolve your problem. Once downloaded scroll down then allow access, that's it. I hope this help.
Hi , i also have a screen problem with my Galaxy Note 9 Edge but i don't know if it is the same as the above problems. The problem started when i turned on the "always display on" option and set the clock to orange. I don't know if this is a coincidence but as soon as i turned that option 2/3s of my screen turned to orange as seen on the attached picture. I tried reverting the options but with no luck. Anyone have any idea what's going on? Did i messed some some settings? I have the latest update installed.
Finally yellow screen fixed in 13 July 2021 update
From what I have heard if you use the gesture navigations instead of the on-screen button navigation method. You should not experience the green screen issue.

If it's an LCD display they don't just turn yellow.
Flash it back to the firmware it was running on.
Rule #1 if the phone is running fast and stable, leave it be.

Actually I faced the same issue with my K20 pro. Nothing worked for me , power button didn't respond and I took it to service center, surprisingly there it turned on without giving to them, Even though It's working fine now, I gave them to check for the black screen issue, and they replied they didn't find any log for that and even they answered the last used app on my device. From that I concluded it's a software issue.
Again till now, I didn't face that issue. If I'm wrong please correct me.

There might be many possibilities, but did they repaired it somehow, or just checked and gave back to you.
If it's given back to you without doing any repair of any kind. Please be very cautious, this devices will go black eventually. Please make a action as soon as possible before same happened again.
You can search and read other users review as well. This phone manufacturing must have a serious manufacturing defect that all users will experience some day

Currently my phone's screen is black. I can't use it.
I do know its working fine by the sound of charging plug in and out and calls coming.
I m frustrated and going for a IPS LCD display worth 3500 rs since amoled will cost around 9000
This is my last try to solve it if I can.
So please share your experience how it was solved

You are talking about fingerprint will not work on IPS LCD display, yes that I do know.

I can use other ways to unlock so it's kind of fine with me
Greetings to all,
I have a Galaxy S21 Ultra (G998B) and i realize that from one moment to another when I open the camera application the zoom x1 does not focus on distant elements, only close elements and the only way to make it focus is by tapping the camera or shaking the phone hard to fix it.
Does anyone know if there is a way to fix that? or should I take it straight to tech support?
I saw a lot of posts on other sites and samsung forums, but none give a concrete solution.
PS: I don't have a warranty so I don't know how much money it's going to cost me.
Any information or solution is gratefully welcome.
Regards.
It's a hardware fault, I had mine replaced by Samsung.
But if you're taking it to Samsung they'll replace all the camera sensors, and would charge you for all the 4!!

I just saw your post about the same problem.
Did you get the whole camera module replaced or lens by lens ?
Also, did you have a warranty or were you charged for that work ?
My device was in warranty so I didn't have to pay. They replaced all the 4 camera modules not just the faulty one.
How come your device doesn't have warranty?

Because I bought it from a person who brought them from an unauthorized dealer, but I bought it sealed and with a manufacture date of May 2021 (I bought it in September).
I had the same problem and the focus came back after shaking a few times. As it was still under warranty, I took it to technical assistance and it was verified that it was a physical problem with the lens module.

Samsung mostly doesn't ask for bill. As long as it is within a year, since it's s21, it certainly is, you can walk in to a Samsung service center and claim warranty. If you bought a variant that is not for your region, then YMMV.

Yes. If it is the same variant sold locally. But it has to be an exact match, like G998B/DS . This is an example for the exynos variant.
