Samsung Gear Sport/S3 pairing issue - Nokia 8 Questions & Answers

Has anyone had any success using a Samsung Gear Sport/S3/Frontier with their Nokia 8? I bought a Gear Sport without realising that this Nokia flagship phone, only to find it will not complete the pairing process with the watch. Plenty of other non-Samsung Android phones work the Samsung Gear devices, yet Nokias sit in an odd niche that does not support them.
Really annoying because the device is really quite nice, just the odd idiosyncrasies of the Nokia 8 stopping it from working. Must be something to do with the Bluetooth implementation (where else have we see corner cutting in that department...AptX anyone?)

I use gear s2(predecessor) with Nokia 8 and don't have any issue so far. Software wise it should be similar to gear s3

Same here... I bought Gear S3 a week ago but I can't complete the pairing process with my Nokia 8. I tried every method and solution I could find but still no success :crying:. I hear there are issues with car bluetooth conectivity as well. I just hope that Pie will fix this. I am getting very frustrated with this phone!

sucks that you're having the same! I'm going to hold out for Pie to see if it helps (should be here very soon!) And if it doesn't help trade up to a Galaxy S8 for guaranteed compatibility!

Since Pie beta OTA update everything is working as it should. Watch automatically reconnects to phone after time away from it, all notifications are seamless and it functions perfectly! Setup worked first time after the update.

What about the app support?
Does it have apps like in wear OS?

Has Spotify with offline music support (unlike WearOS) so it can play directly to headphones.
It also has Strava, which is good for workout tracking.
This is where my app usage ends!
It does have apps, but I'd recommend reading/watching reviews to see if it has what you need as I think it has fewer than WearOS. What it does have, however, is far better battery life than any current WearOS device could possibly hope for.

Hi, just some questions:
- I understand you have a non-official 4.3 in the note 2, could you confirm?
- If do you have a bluetooth headset, may I ask you to test if you do a call, or with the phone or with the galaxy gear, if the sounds goes to he headset?
I acquired a gear and check with 4.2.2. and 4.1.2 on diferent devices (installing the gear app) but the issue was with the headset. I need to have it running...

Plasee can check if receive the call with the note instead of the gear, goes it into the note or still going to the gear. In this last case there is a menĂº in The gear that can switch to the note or to the bluetooth, does it work? This menu appears on the gear during the call and is activated on the screen, upper right corner.
do you have last version of gear software in the note?
Thanks for your time.

So if I receive a call i can answer with the gear or with the phone, then from the phone I can push the Headset button and hear the call on the phone,or push it back and hear it on the gear.
Yes I have the latest version I believe.

You are my king....
A) If you receive a call and push your bluetooth earpiece, the call goes directly into this headset?
B) Do you have disconnections using the headset bluetooth earpiece?
C) May i ask you for a print screen of your bluetooth devices connected just to see what is blue color or connected at the same time?
D) What 4.3 are you running?
E) is running in your case the weather widget?
You have the secret to have running the gear. It is related to the 4.3 version but not needed any special sw from Samsung (except obviously the gear sw). If you confirm my question I think I will acquire again a gear (i returned due no way to have it running with my phones)
Sorry for this long list of requirements.

[Q] LG G Watch R connected to both Nexus 5 & Nexus 9

I'm trying to take advantage of the new Lollipop SmartLock feature and have my Nexus 5 and my Nexus 9 connected via BT to the LG watch so they can both stay unlocked when close to me.
Android Wear is installed on the N5 and everything works (more or less) fine with the phone. But when I try to pair the LG watch with the N9 tablet it keeps saying "Connecting..." and then "Not connected" in an endless loop.
The N9 is able to pair, add the watch as a Trusted Device and SmartLock will work for a while but then stops and I need to repeat the whole pairing process for it to work again.
Anyone tried to use the LG Watch as a Trusted Device on both a phone and tablet at the same time?
Thanks,
---Mirco.

I don't own any of these devices, but If I'm right, by reading the manual that came with the watch to you, you'll find out that you can pair watch only to one device at a time. To pair it to another device, you have to do factory reset for watch.
Some info HERE

Spere, thanks for the info.
Android Wear I understand; it can be paired with only one device <--> watch. But this is just bluetooth.
Otherwise, why would the LG G Watch R have a Settings --> Bluetooth Devices option where you can pair additional devices?

I just don't know. And like I said, I don't have this watch yet, but I'm going to buy it someday near.
I thought the same myself. If I remember right, Google made Android Wear devices able to connect to BT headphones to play music from watch itself. Now, if you can pair only one device to watch, does this mean that to connect to headphones you need to do factory reset and to pair back to phone do it again? This would be total idiotism, who really would do that? And I myself would also like to connect my watch (which I don't own, yet) to my Note 3 and Note Pro 12.2, this just won't seem to be possible right now, what I've read.

You already said it, but here it goes:
You can only pair one device <-> watch, the bluetooth settings on the watch are for bluetooth headphones / speakers, so it looks like this device --> watch --> bt headset and not device 1 --> watch <-- device 2

I have the Nexus 5, 9, and the original G watch, and have the exact same question.
I am using smart lock on my Nexus 5 which is paired to my G Watch through Android Wear. No problem there.
I am able to pair my G Watch to my Nexus 9 by going to Settings > Bluetooth on the watch and pairing with the Nexus 9. Upon pairing, the Nexus 9 displays a notification asking if I would like to add the watch as a trusted devices, just like with the Nexus 5. However, the only problem is that Smart Lock won't work because the watch is not connected to the Nexus 9.
So, in summary, you can pair the watch to Nexus 9, but Smart Lock doesn't work because it's not connected.
The G Watch is able to pair with multiple devices. However, as previously mentioned, it will only connect to devices that has the correct bluetooth services (i.e. speaker). Please correct me if I am wrong.
But it would be nice to be able to use the G Watch as a trusted device for Smart Lock on multiple devices, not just the phone.

[Q] Best OS/variant for use w/ Nexus 6?

Hi all. I just bought a Galaxy Gear cheaply and it has the latest (MK7) Android revision on it. I downloaded some Gear Manager and other APKs on here to my Nexus 6 and managed to get it to pair, but I do not get weather or dual city clock face functionality. Also some app keeps crashing on my phone after certain events, like hanging calls up. I think it was called GoManager. My phone is rooted but my watch is fully un-modded.
Which OS is the best thing for me to get the most functionality out of this watch given that I do not use a Samsung device, and especially that I use a Nexus 6? I heard of Null, and of course Tizen. Also TizenMod. What should I do to have the best experience & where can I find an up to date guide on what to do with my watch, phone, & PC? I was hoping to have at least a watch face with the weather, my notifications, & syncing of camera snaps from the watch over to my phone (bare transfer every X minutes is fine).
Thanks so much.

Bluetooth Issues...

I use BT at home daily for listening to music and netcasts. I have a couple of different BT speakers as well as the awesome Panasonic Link-to-Cell phone system for those who have dropped their home hard-wired phone lines. I also use BT constantly when I am in my car.
With my LG G2, BT connection was seamless and immediate, all the time, for years now. It connected to multiple devices as soon as I walked in the door and with my car audio as soon as I started my car.
With the N5, it always needs to be re-paired manually - especially at home where there are two devices waiting to pair with it as soon as I come home. It'll pair with the Panasonic phone, but when I select a speaker, the N5 disconnects from the Panasonic and then I have to re-pair with it. It will work once I spend a moment managing connections. In the car it often pares immediately, but sometimes not.
Another observation is that the N5's BT range is short, and it will drop if a line-of-sight gets interrupted momentarily.
In an attempt to fix, I have wiped the cache for both Bluetooth apps that come with the VZW N5 - that didn't help. Then, I wiped the system cache, also no dice. I wonder if this is carrier-dependent (I am on VZW) or something to do with older BT devices and the newer BT protocol that the N5 uses. I've read that the N4 has similar BT issues.
Overall, it's usable, but not as good as my old G2. Anyone else have these issues? Fixes??
This issue persists to this day. I can accommodate it with some manual intervention when I want to connect to my BT speakers.
Looking to get a BT 4.x speaker to see if it's just a BT version issue.
I only use Bluetooth in my car and I haven't had any issues whatsoever. Always connects as soon as I start the car and never drops the connection or anything. It syncs my contacts and everything just fine as well. I don't use Smart Lock however. Maybe try turning that off?

I think that's the case. For some reason samsung's 4.1 Bluetooth protocol is not backwards compatible. Ever since the s4 Bluetooth meta data has stopped working in my 2012 Mazda. Works fine with my N5 (nexus 5) and my LG G4. If I had to bet I think that's the issue with you. I could be wrong. Just thought I'd share.

Note 5 always works with my car, does not drop or anything but it has an unstable connection to my samsung gear circle headphones. I believe it is the 5.1.1 update, because they work with my wife's note 3 just fine and they used to work fine before the 5.1.1 update.
Did you ever resolve your issue? looks like some are successful after getting their device replaced and others are not and say the problem comes back. All seems to be related to the 5.1.1 update..
Bluetooth and Note 5, horrible combination

Thanks for writing. I found out that if I disable wifi, it connects a little better, though not as good as my wife's phone, Note 3 (my previous phone)
I tried to find ways to change the frequency it connects, but google was not helpful. Maybe some of the experts here could be helpful, I do not know.
Anyways, I tried to connect to our smart bulb yesterday. It would pair, but would never connect, wifi or not. On the other hand, the Note 3 connected to it immediately.
They keep updating the gear circle software but it is the phone fault, since gear circle is able to connect to my laptop from even another floor!
It's not the BT device... I have terrible luck with expensive purchases and my note 5 was no exception. I upgraded from a galaxy S relay (love keyboards) and about 1 month later my Bluetooth stopped working from all through my house to needing a DIRECT line of sight and max range of about 2 feet. Netflix, hulu, audible all pretty much useless with this issue.
I returned it and got a new one (not referbished) and I noticed a slight lag in key strokes. About 2 weeks go by and the bottom half of my screen is going haywire. Trying to scroll a Web page and it would click everywhere. Typing like I am now would result in 100s of extra letters I was never close to pressing. I returned it and got a referbished one and same thing... my 4th one which I'm using to type this just started doing the Bluetooth thing and I'm so mad.
It's not the Bluetooth device because I tried my old Plantronics I used for 5 years, my new Plantronics, my car, and these weird speakers that have water pumps in them and the issue was the same. I love this phone but it seems to hate me...

Quick question, do you have android 5.1.1 or 6? I still have 5.1.1 and thats when it started with the problems. It was all fine and dandy with android 5.0.
My wife has a Note 3 with 5.0 and the same headphones are just fine with it.
I have been waiting for android 6 to see if it works out.
My Note 5 upgraded itself to Android 6.0 and all my bluetooth problems are solved magically. I cannot believe how they can manage to screw up things for so many months and we have to wait for the new OS to have it solved. For Samsung Gear Circle none the less. I know I am not buying bluetooth watches or anything in case they screw up bluetooth again in an "update".

Quite some things i need help with.

Before I start, I wasn't really sure what section this was supposed to go in, so excuse me if this is the wrong section.
So recently i've been trying a few things
first of all, I wanted to connect my OnePlus One to my Gear 2 Neo, which, at the time, had the Stock OS. My opo had Android 4.something and it succeeded. However, when I updated my phone to Android 5, it no longer worked. I waited quite a while, and just didnt use the watch at all. After a while I found out that I could change the OS my watch had, so I installed Android Wear. It did a pretty good job, apart from some things crashing all the time. One problem Android Wear has though; I couldn't directly call from my watch nor could I use the Watchon Remote app that was on Tizen. So I decided to install the stock OS on my watch. I also noticed that Samsung had released Gear Manager for Non-Samsung phones. So I thought it would work, however, whenever I try to search for the watch, It doesnt find it.
Here are the questions:
Is there any way to take the Watchon Remote from Tizen and somehow install it on Android Wear? ( If yes, second answer doesn't need to be answered (Also, I know that there is some kind of IR blaster but it doesn't seem to work for the kind if device I use)
If not, how do I connect my OnePlus One to my Galaxy Gear 2 Neo with the new Gear Manager app?
Is it possible to modify Android Wear, making it possible to use a dialer on my watch, and use it as a phone?
I really hope someone could help me out because this has really been bothering me lately.
Thanks in advance,
Raeeh.
i dont think you can port the apps from tizen to AW and the speakerphone in AW doesnt work yet. Thats the one thing in tizen i miss
