Hi Guys
Im loving my XDA Ignito (removed o2 Rom, now just like a HTC Diamond)
The contacts are displayed "surname, first name" this is soooo frustrating !! Please please could somebody help me convert my contacts to "first name, surname" I have roughly 220 numbers.
Thanks
Adam
Change the "File As" field in each contact. You might be able to do this in Outlook too.
umm... why is this such a problem?!?
are people too stupid to remember a surname?
my friend, when you only have 10 friends, as you must with responses like that, it probably isn't.
On the other hand when you have several Samantha's and such on the phone it can be.
So I would still appreciate some help please.
Cheers
fair enough, but i find it easier to go by surname (and i have many Chris' for example, and it is easier just to go to the one person with that one surname than scroll thru loads of Chris' to find the one with the right surname?!!?!?!?!
i think you will find that ur answer does not make sense.
and on this n00bish argument, there are fricking hundreds of threads about this, so sorry if i'm starting to get pissed off with the question.
Just use the smart dial feature, i have exactly the same problem as you, but i cannot/will not sit there and edit, in my case 286 contacts because microsoft is stupid.
i mean really, if they can file them the wrong way round, surely there is an option to file them correctly, i have been saying this since WM5!!!
NOTHING WILL GET DONE, and i dont think it will
Sorry, guess with frickin hundreds of threads on this there must be frickin hundreds of other people who aren't quite as clever at remembering surnames as you.
Thanks for the help.
Am I talking to myself? Edit the contact and change the File As. All my contacts are firstname lastname.
indeed.
there is no answer to this, most people with technology are used to it.
only Nokia 3310 still have first name first.
why dont u just type the name in one line?
Ruffage, I did try this but unfortunately "file as" only give me one option, i.e. "Smith;John/1"
mugglesquop - Have you nothing better to do than waste my time & yours by writing useless sh*t... F*ck off
usless sh*t??
i told you there is no way of changing them all (AFAIK, and i have read a lot of threads on this)
i also told you a way of storing contacts in the way that you want for future use.
useless?
There must be a way of doing this!!
Also if I do what you said for the future, then I would have half my contacts "firstname, surname" & half "surname, first name" how confusing would that be??

Hmm your contacts are messed up then. I get the choice of both ways to display. Perhaps the name is in one field only in Outlook? Can't check here as I'm not at home atm.
When i go to the properties of the contact, there is only a "Name Field" not a First & Last name field.... hmm ?

It displays like that by default, but there should be a drop down arrow at the right hand side of the Name field and, if you tap that, it'll pop up a further box which shows how the name is actually formatted with the fields Title, First, Middle, Last, Nickname and Suffix.
I changed all my contacts such that only the First name field was populated and had their entire name in there (i.e. "First: John Smith") and that means they all come out as you want with their first name displayed before their last name. That doesn't really help you too much though because you'd have to manually reformat all your contacts which is annoying I know.
Medulla, thanks for that!
I suppose I will just have to spend an hour doing it...
use smartdial or use contact search! why would you want to scroll through a 200 people contactlist?

to show off that he has sooo many contacts apparently
i have to use the recent call list far too many people otherwise
This isnt just me showing off how many people i have in my phonebook (as you say) its obvisouly a common problem otherwise there wouldnt be so many posts about it.
Anyway, it was my old phone what f*cked it up, instead of "first" or "last" name it only put it under "name", so spent an hour or so editing them... now spot on. Also under stand the "file as" now too.
Thanks for all your help (or not for some people)
Cheers
Adam
Hi guys just a simple question, I need that by default when i create a new contact he need to be saved "nanme" + "lastname" but not "lastname", "name"
Does anybody knows some registry top or semething to do that??
Thanks in advance
Mmmm...
I've searched hi and low for a hack for you, not just here but in other forums as well. If there is one out there, it's a well-kept secret!
Having said that, you may be the first to ask for this - after all, it takes about two seconds to switch the last name / first name option around using the settings included when editing a contact
Its not a solution per say, more like a workaround:

The problem is when you edit a contact with Jeyo Mobile this contact is saved by his lastname first, this is the real inconvenience, every time that i have to edit a contact i have to go back to my phone an edit from there, that sucks :S
I find that when i add a new appointment there is a bug with the text input.
1. When you select new the screen is showed with the subject line highlighted.
2. You enter the subject and then if you select a new field e.g. time, location etc...
3. The text from the subject moves to the new field you selected.
anyone else find this.
Using the shipped 6.1 ROM
Same problem here! Usually happens when the subject contains more than one word. Usually, the last word is automatically moved to the field I choose. But it doesn't always happens, which bugs me even more.
Vasco
Happens here too, no resolution yet
Same problem here.
My current workaround is to type another space character before i skip to the next field.
Hope it gets fixed in the next official ROM.
Bug not present in my cooked ROM, hope it will be fixed in the official! Everybody's got the right to have a working device
I was using Swype for the past year and really liked it. I find the new android kb even better. Once you uncheck the "dynamic floating preview" (which I think is distracting) it looks and works great! One thing I didn't like about Swype is it wouldn't suggest any email address that started with a number. Since I have a few that I use a lot, it was a pain. Now you can enter anything into your personal dictionary and assign a nickname, then type the nickname and your word will show up. You can even add a sentence to the dictionary, assign "fav" as a nickname, and that sentence will pop up when you type fav.
Do wish it had numbers on the main screen. Hopefully a theme will become available with more long press options on the main keys, and maybe even color options.
I am not sure if this has been discussed earlier but here it goes.
I had this problem from the very first day but I've started feeling more and more frustrated because of this.
When I search a contact from the dialer, it searches by the first letter of every name.
It completely ignores a contact if it matches the search term exactly.
Putting this into an example:
'Raj Bhai' is a contact name and if I type '725' for 'Raj', the contact lies far down the list.
whereas if I type '72' it shows as the first contact.
Also frequently used contacts search much quicker of any other phone but this phone doesn't seem to learn from the habits.
Anybody can think of a better way to deal with the stock dialer ?
Thanks
