Enabling VoLTE on Vodafone UK - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hey guys. I bought the Note 9 (SM-N960F/DS) directly from Samsung a few days ago. I have the option for WiFi Calling but nothing for VoLTE.
I had read elsewhere that other people were successful when they called Vodafone and asked them to update provisioning. They sent over the provisions for Note 9 and S9 but it made no difference.
Is there any way for me to enable this from my end? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

You have to flash the Vodafone firmware and it's only on the 128gb version

UK Orange 4G

Dear all
Very exited to read that my home city is getting 4G at end of October. Does anyone know whether the N7000 will support Orange/EE 4G network?
A friend of mine went to the launch at the NEC and couldn't get a straight answer.
Thanks in advance

Nope. You need a phone with an LTE modem to use 4G which our N7000 doesn't have.
EE are releasing a Note II LTE for use on their network.
Thanks for the quick response! That's a shame.
When I bought the note orange told me it would support 4g. I realise that I should have checked the specs myself BUT do you think I can claim that ive been miss sold the device?

Dual sim issue still present?

Hi guys, just wanted to check if any of you are using this either in india or in the UK on o2?
Had the mi note (not pro - the sd801 version) and in most cases the dual sim worked but not with certain carriers in the UK,italy and india. Basically sim 2 would just not work - xiaomi advised it was a result of having only one imei. A lot of international carriers don't allow a single imei to be used by two different sim cards (whether the same carrier or different carrier) more reading here
http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=84545&extra=page=6&page=6&mobile=2
Is this issue still present in the note pro?

Thanks jazz, are you able to use both ee and o2 sim cards to receive calls/data etc without having to physically swap the Sims?

Yes was on holiday no signal with o2 so bought P&G EE and when I was a good reception area could use both without issues that I was aware of.
I used India SIM in India with UAE SIM on roaming. Worked fine for me. Below is observation. Any questions?!
UAE SIM - 1
- Phone worked in roaming throughout - incoming calls & SMS
India AIRTEL SIM - 2
- Phone worked in roaming in another state
- Data 2g worked in roaming in another state - I subscribed only to 2g on first 2 days
- Phone worked in normal in native state
- Data (2g & 3g) worked in normal in native state - I subscribed to 3g after 2g was finished

Help me assist my coworker

My coworker has a stock AT&T S5 on 5.0 (USA). When she hits the OTA update, it says it's up to date. ...on 5.0. I plugged it into my PC running Smart Switch. It also said it was up to date.
Hasn't this variant been on 5.1.1 since late October? If so, does anyone know how to get it to 5.1.1 without rooting? I'm assuming Odin the stock firmware. But I wanted to check with you guys first.

Is she using AT&T service? The phone will not update unless there is an AT&T sim card in the phone.

RCS with Android Messages

Does anyone have this working at all? I know I read a while back that they were working on it and it would be released soon. I just don't know if it's been pushed out yet or not. I'm on AT&T
I would like to know as well. I'm on T-Mobile with an unlocked Note 9. I don't see an option for it in the Android messages settings.
Supposedly the native Samsung SMS client will be offering native RCS support soon, perhaps with the Pie release.

Android Messaging has been working on Sprint since day one , Aug 22nd with RCS. Using U1 model Note 9.
Incidentally, the only reason I'm using android messaging is because the stock Samsung messages app didn't support RCS on the U1 with Sprint.

Did you try the Google's app called "Carrier Service"?
Its purpose is still mystical but it seems to be related to RCS support.
I gave up hope for RCS on this iteration. Mainly because of adoption across all Android phones won't be here for a good while and iMessage will still be the main way iPhone users use to communicate with everyone, which is far superior to what we have on Android. I use WhatsApp but I still have a fair amount of contacts that refuse to use it so it's ****ty sms with them.

T-Mobile Note 9 to Verizon

Hi guys,
I bought the note 9 directly from Samsung and it was a T-mobile version. I just switched to Verizon but I can't use the note 9 because it's locked to T-mobile. I've called T-mobile multiple times and they said i have to do it through the app but the app keeps telling me that the unlock has failed. I have also called samsung countless times and they told me that the Note 9 that i purchased was designed to be used for T-mobile and there is no unlocking it. I doubt that this is true. What are my options here? Can i flash the unlocked firmware if so, where can i find it? Thanks in advance for the help.

I reached out to both of them. Samsung did not do sh*t. They said they can't do anything since it was designed to work with T-mobile only. I don't buy that. It's same hardware so there has to be a way to flash it.

Well flashing it may not remove the SIM lock. But if you can't get resolved then I suggest you get a lawyer and see where it goes.

I pretty sure a T-Mobile Note 9 will not work on Verizon due to the frequencies being different and each phone have different radio software that includes specific hardware. The only phone I am aware of that runs on both is the Pixel.

It's a pain to go through eBay ugh. It sucks because i think i've only used this phone for about 2 days so it's pretty much brand new.

Have you tried flashing a Verizon rom to the unlocked Note 9 and throw a Verizon sim card in it to see if it works?

The installation of a specific carrier rom will unlock the modem to allow it to work on a given carriers network. Just do your research before you start flashing roms.

Well, i know how to flash roms and how odin works. So should I root it and flash Verizon's rom?
Please do the research.
Rooting the device has nothing to do with flashing a different carrier's rom.

I had this problem before on another phone. Go on Twitter and send tweet to John Legere from T-Mobile that you can't unlock your paid off phone, someone from Tmobile will contact you to get it unlocked. You can probably also send a tweet to T-mobile too, but I never tried them.
If you bought it from Samsung directly for T-Mobile it should be a N960U1 for an unlocked device or a N960U locked on T-Mobile
Which device do you have?

I'm pretty sure this statement is inaccurate. As far as I know, all N960U carrier models (i.e. Verizon, TMobile, ATT, etc) have the same hardware.

Flashing a different firmware will do absolutely nothing for the SIM Lock situation.
Also,if you're currently on a temporary unlock, that may be holding things up as well.
Typically,T-Mobile has a 40 day period to where you need for the phone to be active on their network before they will grant a SIM Unlock, not sure if this applies to devices bought directly from Samsung, but,it still could be why you're having issues.
You have two options:
1) Continue contacting T-Mobile regarding the issue,be prepared to show 'em your receipt/etc... proving you've bought the phone from Samsung & that it is indeed paid off. Call during typical office hrs on weekdays to ensure you get your former regional "Team Of Experts",I've found T-Mo's Customer Care has greatly improved since they went this route.
2) Use a paid device unlock service & make sure what you buy is T-Mobile Note 9 specific.
Anything else will not work. Google is your friend,as well as searching here in the Note 9 forums for services that have been recommended by the membership here.
Stay on the T-Mobile firmware until the device is permanently unlocked,I'm not sure that side-loading the device unlock .apk will work on non-T-Mobile firmware.
Depending on the method of payment you used, you may have some buyer protection regarding a return/refund,but,I'd use that as a last resort if after a week or so you get no results.
I just had a replacement and it was locked on tmobile, when I was getting the failed to unlock was because it wasn't enough time activated on their network after a week of use I was able to successfully permanent unlock my note 9
