Kindle fire 7th generation. Had it for a few weeks, and I've checked out all of its settings many times. A couple days ago, I notice that there's a new set of settings-developer settings. After some 'research' I find that these settings are 'turned on' by going into settings/device options, then tapping on the serial number 7 times. I never did that! Also, 'enable adb' was switched on! I switched it off and cleared data for the settings app, to 'turn off' developer options. This is really disturbing to me.
Any ideas as to how they got switched on?
Should I be concerned?
When switching on adb I am warned that my fire and all personal data are NOT SECURE with adb enabled.
Under the adb setting it says "to debug over usb". Is adb only for usb, or can it be done over wifi?
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling my apps tosee if I can recreate this happening. It does not come back on.

Sorry for the rather long post but i wanted to share some of my experiences with my Rooted NC.
I have been very happy with my NC util last night when I ran into a very puzzling problem.
The Quick setting pop up would not turn on my WiFi when I select the button. The button changed states from "OFF to "ON", but the small line of text displaying the WiFi status never changed. In order to actually turn ON WiFi from an OFF state, after turning it on in the Quick Setting pop up, I had to actually go to setting (from the menu button) and drill down to the wireless settings. As soon as the Wireless settings menu open, I noted that the list of acess points would show my router braodcast name with the status of "Out of Range" then it would immediately change to "obtaining IP address" , then "Testing", then finally "Internet connected". So obvisouly the Quick settings menu was not turning on the WiFi for some reason. Interestingly enough, to Quick settings pop of would turn off the WiFi. What a PITA.
This behaviour happened recently when I installed three different apps to setup and use ADB via wireless to my NC. One of the Apps was SambaFileSharing. However, I cannot confirm that the SambaFile Share app was the exact cause of the WiFi malfunction. I never did make it happen.
The FIX:
1. I first tried to re-run autoneuter; no change. Quick Settings WiFIf toggle is still broken.
2. Did a complete restore to factory per directions obtained on this forum and NookDev. This caused an infinite Nook Color (with Autoneuter boot screen) loop.
3. Follwing NookDev directions again I used ADB to toggle an 8 try fail that forced a "Settings delete" and Wipe.
This finally got me back to Nook Color 1.0.1 factory settings.
Then I ran through the re-registration and setup process and finally ran Autoneuter. I can now happily report that my NC is now working normal and Quick Setting works correctly.
Quick Settings fails to start WiFi? UPDATE
For all of you have read my post i have to provide an update.
Following the directions i posted here will get you back to ORIGINAL B&N software version 1.0. I had completely reload all of my apps and set everything up; including Zeam launcher and all of my favorite apps to find out that i was on B&N 1.0.
My mistake was that I incorrectly assumed the offical B&N update also updated the factory restoral image. Boy I was wrong.
So...I had start all over. Forced restore; re-register my NC, etc. After getting my NC back to the B&N stock 1.0 THEN I did the manual update to B&N 1.0.1. Finally I re-rooted my NC THEN loaded up Zeam and my favorite apps...again.

Hi,
I am having trouble enabling USB debugging. The setting looks ok, and I can mark it, but if I go back, and enter the Developer Options again, the check box is not marked anymore. So somehow it seems that it is not saving it. If i stay in the Developer options menu after enabling it, it isn't working either.
My phone is rooted, but still on stock software. I am running build JRO03C.I9305XXALK5
I have tried searching for this issue, but noone seems to experience the same thing.
Any suggestions?

I just wanted to make a quick check to see if this was the only Developer option that was affected (It was). But then i tried again with USB debugging, and it works(!). It stopped working again later on, but simply enabling/disabling another option (I used 'Protect SD card') seems to "fix" it temporarily. :fingers-crossed:
Try dialing *#7284#
Select "Qualcomm USB Settings"
Select "MTP+ADB"
Hit OK and go back to exit
DO NOT PLAY WITH OTHER SETTINGS !!
This should switch it on and leave it on.
To go back to the normal setting use the first Option "MTP"
Hello there.
First of all, the backgrounds...
I'm using CM11 by Maclaw, running 4.4.4
I got curious and unticked MTP on the notification tray. Usually the system won't let you untick it unless you tick the other option. But this actually left both options untick, so now it won't even connect to my laptop, and the option in the notification tray disappeared. All that is left is the USB debugging mode option. I still hear the sound when you plug a usb device on my laptop but it's not just connecting. I've tried rebooting. There's also no setting (that I could see) that would let you choose which connection method you want.
Any idea what's happening here? Or how to fix this?
Thanks in advance!!!
Update: Never mind. You could actually press the menu button when inside Storage in Settings.
Title says it all, really.
I flashed CM12 onto my Kindle Fire 7" (5th Gen) and I disabled MTP by clicking 'charge only' for the USB connections.
Now, I can't enable MTP back on so I cannot access any files through the USB on my PC...
Any help? ;-;
Same here. I have no idea why. Also setting search doesn't work.

I've found a fix! Except I'm not sure if this will work for you I just randomly did stuff and it ended up working.
1. Download 'SG USB Mass Storage Enabler' on the App Store (can't post links, and yes, I know it's supposed to be for Samsung devices but... bare with me)
2. Grant root access, and click on 'MTP'.
3. At the top, if connected to a PC, and if you pull your notifications down, you may see 'Connected as a charging device' or something along the lines like that.
4. Tap it, it should be on MTP, except it probably won't be working, try tapping another option and then clicking on the notification again, it should still remain as 'Connected as a charging device.'
5. If so, replug into your PC and a notification should appear somewhere on your screen saying 'Fire - Choose what happens to this device'
6. Click on that, choose it to view files et voila! It should be up and running.
Hi all as title says.
When I go to playstore and see I have a few updates and I press update all when I lock my screen it stops the updates until I wake my phone again. Is there anyway to change this?
Some reasons possible.
1. You set wifi to turn off when phone is "Off" and then limited Play to update only by wifi.
2. Play is set to be denied power when phone is "off".
3. etc.

Make sure back ground data is turned on. I have mine intentionally turned off and it does the same thing, but I want it to do that.
Go to system settings - apps - Google play store - mobile data, then make sure back ground data is turned on. Mine is turned off in the pic

You could try tapping... settings>general management>reset>reset network settings. This will correct (should correct) the issue if it's due to an intentional or unintentional change made to a network (wifi/data) setting that may be the cause of the issue.
If that doesn't work you could try settings>apps>3 dots located on top right>reset app preferences. That will change all app preferences to default but it's basically a reconfigure every app one by one after you do that, and even then it's not a guaranteed fix.
Just some ideas for you to consider. Good luck with your search for a fix.
I have had the same issue. even rooted note9 to fix it.
TRUST ME ON THIS ONE
THE SOLUTION IS:
go to Settings
go to Connections
go down to More connection settings
on the bottom you have Private DNS
check bottom option Private DNS provider hostname
put in dns.google.com
press SAVE
That is it !! trust me on this one. please try and see that it is the solution. What happened with dns settings after some mid PIE Samsung update , I do not know but this is the solution to google play problem.
Thank me later
