what is this fast charging?? is it like Quickcharge?
shouldn't it be hardware based feature?

Our device originally supports upto 1700mA of current. But in some kernels the charging has been modded to give more current than that. The only thing I don't understand is that they tell us to use the stock charger to get faster charging but our wall charger only provides max 1.7A.
But some people have reported getting current upto 1900mA using the stock charger only. You can test the current through Ampere from play store.
Well you can't say it is like the quick charge technology as in the snapdragon devices but it should lessen the charging time

I dont think it is harmful and hopefully the developer of that kernel also knows what our device is capable of

More or less, you should know that you are drawing more current than what the manufacturer specified. This may cause unexpected results like overheating, degradation of battery or worse bursting of phone!
Just be safe
I have used many miui roms for Lenovo a7000..some of them are pretty much stable but I have only one problem..Charging is slow..it takes minimum 5 hrs to fully charge using the charger provided with this phone..though charging is improved with my friend's Redmi charger. Please Help
Also Fast charging patch by hdhr is not helping.

Silky smooth
After a long time I was with Beta, I decided to go back to the stable ROM. My feeling is that the battery life is somehow better but the phone seems to be laggy! This is probably the first time I'm saying that the phone is laggy! I did factory reset etc, rooted the phone again and everything seem to run slower than with the Beta. I'm definitely going back to Beta!
Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the OnePlus 5T stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.

The only time it ever got warm was when I was charging it above 60% while playing a game otherwise it never even warms up.
I just tested mine out with a collection of Google Cardboard apps. While my last phone (LG G3 F460, SnapDragon 805) would heat up to an alarming degree and start throttling after about 15 minutes of any Cardboard app, I played for about an hour with my 5T and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't any warmer than when I put it into the headset! This impressed me and got me excited about Cardboard and Google VR again, which I was skeptical about with my last phone.
Yeap surprisingly it doesn't heat up even when using it while dash charging.
Yes it's as cool as the note 8,very impressive.
1080p 60fps video after about half an hour got the phone a bit hot, was in the hard case that came with the phone however. But it was still able to record. CPU was around 55c
Only on rare occasions like playing GPU intensive games or while decoding and encoding videos does it get slightly warm. It is the coolest phone I have ever used till now. I am overwhelmed!

This is exactly what baffles me. The phenomenon when you are able to pump about 4 amperes of current without its side effect of getting heated is actually something like "abra ka dabra" & "hocus focus" of the magical world! I am still intrigued by its quick yet cool "DASH" charging feature.

I think they designed the dash charging plugs to take all the heat for the phone. It's a pretty clever trick.
doesn't heat up quickly (played GTA SA for 30 mins )
if i use utorrent app in my oneplus5t, it heats within 5 mins and reaches almost 60 degree easily.
it is consistent behavior, which happens everytime.
Could you test cpu temp and throttling using this app? I think it's one of the best ways to measure cpu temp and performance.
I usually set it for just 5 minutes and it's enough. Also, tick the boxes in settings to show cpu temp and share a screenshot. Thank you!

Had this phone for quite a few month now. These days, I use it mostly for gaming(auto), no need to pay attention to it for sometimes. But it does get pretty hot. Not very suitable for handheld gaming (high-end games). What I do is put it somewhere with good air flow, room with fan/air-con, even on the floor (its cooler than on table...). My Samsung Galaxy Note 2 heats up way more that this phone, even on the floor, playing the same game. Just saying...
Other usage is just great. No overheat. Even mid-range game won't heat it up too much.

My phone can get a bit warm when watching YouTube videos and charging at the same time for a while.

Fast charging is not just a matter of allowing it in software, the actual charging circuit has to be capable of it.
