How to determine XT1900 variant from the box? - Moto X4 Questions & Answers

I went to Best Buy to get an X4 fully expecting to get the Retail Motorola version. I checked the shelf tag and it didn't say Android One. When I got the box home before I opened the box I checked that the label did not say Android One anywhere.
Turns out it IS the Android One version. It's on the boot screen and in about phone as variant Google Fi.
I plan to go to Best Buy again and discuss this. But my question is how can I tell the variant from the label on the box so THEY can know which one is in the box?
The label has a field marked Type: M2297
Can someone with a Retail X4 check if they have a different number? Or does someone know how to tell from the box?
-----------------------------------------------------
Update: The Variant can be found by looking at the P/N: on the label on the box
'retail' version: PA8S0007US
Android One version: PA8S0025US
Moving forward Best Buy will be selling Android One version of the X4 in an unmarked box. Nothing that indicates it's the Android One.

What is the SKU? Can probably match it to Motorola website.

They don't give any kind of model number/SKU on the website under full specifications. They just list them by name.

I'll tell you right now the Android One box is fairly obvious. Someone @ BB probably put it into the incorrect box as unlikely they obtained it that way themselves.

You are my savior. This should be the evidence I need to return it if I want to without the return fee. My box is blue and just says MotoX4.

FYI blue box is totally retail not amazon or fi.

It's totally strange. It was shrink wrapped and had a piece of imprinted Motorola tape on the box.
Refurbished unit maybe? Was supposed to be a store display but never got put out??? The sales person said he wasn't sure it was from because he did not show any instock.

Not really sure what you could do with that info either but you should block the barcode too.

If you share your IMEI number it will provide access to your location and call logs. Also people can record or listen to your calls. The important use of an IMEI number is to identify your mobile devices. If your mobile have been lost, you can easily identify it with the help of IMEI number.
The right person would know how to abuse it. It's just a precaution, unless you're selling it. Buyers check it to ensure its not blacklisted.

Just picked one up from Best Buy the other day. It is the Android one, says on back of phone, Software Variant in System Settings is google_fi, updated to pie.
Came in blue box, all sealed. No reference to Android one on box.

Seems this could be right. Another 4.2.2 update was spotted in brasil:
http://www.androidauthority.com/android-4-2-2-nexus-4-brazil-146670/
greetz
well lets see how this plays out..
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Braz...d:+phonearena/ySoL+(Phone+Arena+-+Latest+News)
After a quick glance at the articles, it's a mistake as it's not a release build.
Was gonna post about this too, i figured there should be a 4.2.2 update eventually as there are some little bugs still present in 4.2.1.
That .44 baseband though might be worth a test

I thought it was a hoax but its starting to look like its true, maybe its a battery fix for the mediocre battery life of the nexus 4? one can only hope :crying:

On the last pic, the last "2" is photo shopped in very badly. It's not even aligned with the other digits ffs..
Mourn not however, 4.2.2 is imminent!
It's most probably a fake Google puts out the factory image at the same time as the ota. No factory image is out.
Sent using xda premium.
They obviously didn't think the build date of the kernel was important either...

Nobody said it was OTA and like how the US reviewers received a build of 4.2 before it was released (beta in that sense) this could be beta as well. The USA reviewers reecived an OTA update the Sunday before it launched to the full final 4.2.
The phone just came out in Brazil and Malaysia so they could be getting the most up to date build to review just like Google/LG did in the USA.

Not that I am disagreeing with this possibly being a fake, but the 2 is inline perfectly. I just check with Photoshop. (Though, it isn't hard to fake these things.)

My first thought to that is why bother fake it in photoshop when you can just simply edit a text file (build.prop) and change it to 4.2.7 if you wanna? That way you can make android 5.0 and it would look perfectly aligned and you cuold even make a video of it since it's pulling that information from the text file.
Once in build.prop you can edit the following things:
-edit Android Version by locating ro.build.version.release= and changing the current Build Version.
- Edit your Model # by locating ro.product.model= and changing your model #
- change your product brand by locating ro.product.brand=

It's not that hard to do.

I completely agree. I just opened Photoshop to zoom in and check the lineage of the numbers. Photoshop wouldn't be my method of trying to fake something like this, I was just testing what the user above had said about the numbers being out of line, etc.

HTC one with bad esn from craiglist

Hi,
I bought a used HTC one on craiglist only to find out that is is stolen. Att wouldnt allow me to activate it.
I am so stressful now. What other option do I have with other carrier at all? Don't tell me to use as a wifi fone please.
Here is my IMEI. I dont understand that I already check that IMEI first hand, it shows clean, but somehow I still got scam.

Unfortunately there isn't much you can do with this, it has happened to me in the past also. Just because the IMEI is clean when you bought it doesn't mean that a few days / weeks / months later the original owner doesn't report it lost / stolen at which point it becomes blocked to you.
The only resolution is for the person who reported it lost / stolen to the networks contact the network and advise they have located it, and they will then lift the IMEI bar

I just check with Imei checker, and they say T-mobile is clean. Do carriers share the blacklist?

Ive bought a lot of phones on CL. Ive only been burned once.
What i did learn is that if they have Asurion they have 30 days to file a Lost/Stolen claim with them.
Then another 120 days to finalize the claim and pay the deductible.
I had this happen to me when i got a TMO GS3. I had it 4 months and then one day it didnt work. I followed up with TMO and found it was listed as stolen. I knew the store manager and she remembers when i had them check it. She did some digging and found out the 30 day / 120 day timeline.
The crappy thing is, i emailed Asurion multiple times to let them know the person who reported it stolen was scamming people and using insurance fraudulently and they didnt care.
With insurance its easy to scam people. Without it not so much.

Decoding serial number for build date?

Does anyone know how to decode the N6 serial number to determine build date? If so, do you use the number on the box, or the number in the bootloader menu on the phone (they are different).
Thanks.

No it has a serial number.
My box has a date and it is a day after the date that is in the Bootloader barcodes section.
Your box should have a date. Look carefully.
If you need help post a picture with your IMEI/SN blanked out and I'm sure someone will help you.
Bottom right corner of the label. That's where my newest nexus has the date printed.

the boxes differ, depending where you bought your nexus 6.
That must be it then. I bought mine from Best Buy, for Sprint service, back on Black Friday. I broke my screen and had an RMA and was sent a brand new sealed retail box from Moto last week. Both boxes are identical and have the date in the same spot.

I bet retailers like Best Buy and the Carriers request dates on the box so whatever backstock they have can be rotated while Moto/GP don't keep a backstock so there's no need. The fact that the labels are totally different tells me it's a request by the retailer.
Mine was purchased from Rogers. I'd speculate that the above post is correct.
Purchased online through Sprint.
I'm trying to relate the back cover peeling issue with the build date of the Nexus 6 device.

Excellent. The only other person besides myself in the world with this variant. I have posted the the boot.img,recovery.img, and build.prop in another thread to have a custom recovery made, but havent heard anything back yet.
I too am having an issue finding anything for this phone. Not to tech savvy myself but I'm sure something will come soon. Black Friday at Walmart sold a ton of these phones so I'm sure it won't be long.
+1 person
Me too man bought on Black friday and looking to unlock this for t mobile . Let's see what happen ??
EDIT:- Is someone is using for other network than straightalk ??
I too snagged this phone at Walmart on Black Thursday right after a hearty meal of turkey and all the fixin's lol. So far, all I've been able to really accomplish on this device is to root it with KingRoot, replace KingRoot with SuperSU and enable tethering. We really do need a custom recovery for this variant. A permissive kernel would be nice too.
I bought one of these phones from black Friday online from Wal-mart the Straight Talk model but online it shows S920C instead of S920L.... Does anyone know the difference?
http://www.walmart.com/ip/46716426
I don't have the device in hand yet, should be here by the 4th to verify the model number. I posted the link though.

I have a SM-S920L(As screenshot above) and i bought from Best buy and it is locked to Tracfone. I called to cell representative and he told me that it can be unlock after 1 year of use.

I've read somewhere that in order to update you have to get a new SIM card from Straight talk. I myself haven't test this theory so if anyone is able to update after doing so, please post your results for the rest of us.

If you do find another way let us know. Seems like a pain just to get an update.
So I talked to straight talk and they said that the ota issue don't qualify for a sim replacement. Not to sure how the other people got there's but they refuse to send me one. I will be doing more research to find another way. They also claim that 5.0.2 is the latest version for the phone but the others that have had the sim replaced have 5.1.1
I haven't seen mention of any SM-S920L's on 5.1.1.

Does this mean that LTE phones are unlocked? I always thought it was just a type of 4g just a bit faster
---------- Post added at 12:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:34 AM ----------
After further research I have found that 5.0.2 is the latest for the phone so I am assuming that the others that had this and claim it was fixed with new sim was probably just the timing of the update being available and was only to 5.0.2.
After getting the phone in hand it's indeed a S920L and not a S920C as shown on the Wal-Mart website

If someone isn't willing to share the IMEI, don't buy it.
Your best bet would be through a site such as Swappa, due to their policies that help prevent users from getting screwed.
Or, you could buy an unlocked 5a direct from Google; the hardware is identical to the P5, with the exception of a larger battery, 0.3" larger screen, and 6GB RAM vs 8GB in the P5.
