Guides on changing CSC on N960U? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Basically as the title suggest, I'm looking for guide on changing the CSC on my 960U VZW variant. There was one for my 950U and I was wondering if it would essentially be the same process?

What are you wanting to change it to?

Are you just trying to get the unlocked firmware? So you don't have the Verizon bloat?

Trying to get to the 960U leaks without the bloat. Currently enrolled in U1 beta program but I need WiFi calling

Well unfortunately it's not possible with Verizon. If you're on the U1 firmware, then you have bloatfree firmware. Plus as you said you can stay on the official beta. If you need WiFi calling, you'll have to install the carrier firmware and flash the leaked builds. But of course that brings the bloatware. You can uninstall or disable a of it, but you'll be left with the Verizon boot animation.

Understood may not be all that bad to just stay on U1, especially being that WiFi calling would be my only benefit, other than being flash happy with leaked builds lol. Thanks boss

Carrier Unlocked Update! N950U1

I just got off the chat with Samsung and they said the latest update for our device should be out in the next couple of days. Samsung is way slower than the carriers. I have an unlocked Note 8 running the ATT firmware. Will this update wipe my device or put me back to the unlocked carrier firmware?
Thanks for the info. I'm on the same boat. Hope they roll out soon!
It is crazy that we get it last. I mean, Samsung has to provide the update to the carriers, then the carriers tweak the update for their own devices, then they deploy it. Why aren't we getting it first?!

I know I thought the same. I don't think I will be buying another unlocked carrier phone anymore. Not worth it. Right now I have the ATT firmware running on my Unlocked carrier version. So I still ended up debloating the OS.
What's best way to add carrier firmware? Sprint added there version of volte and unlocked version doesn't have it and I don't think it will get it

You probably wont get it unless you flash the carrier firmware. Here is a link to the thread on how to: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/how-to/guide-sm-n950u-u1-t3685884

Note 9 Android 9.0 Beta on SPRINT

Works great...wifi calling works, carrier branding with Sprint logo on boot...WiFi calling works...strange that the install did not wipe my user data... VoLTE works by default...maybe enabled after I enabled wifi calling??? For outgoing and incoming calls...very stable...though my dark theme doesn't look right on some settings screens.
RCS works natively in the Samsung messages app.
Can not edit APNs anymore though the old methods though.
Any other Sprint users try this out???

Just curious how or why the Sprint branding was installed onto your U1 unlocked note 9. Or was the Pie version you installed a Sprint firmware specific one? Thanks.

It was not before the Android 9.0 update... Android 8.1 did not show any branding, but the Android 9.0 does. Similar to how the Samsung s8 was when you could switch carrier branding on the fly

This is what's confusing me to be honest. My T-Mobile Note 8 U model rebranded to Sprint when I inserted a Sprint sim card. I didn't think U1 models did this for the note 8 /S8 or 9 ? I thought brand switching only worked on unlocked carrier branded U variants.

I dont see volte. Show me a screenshot where you see it.
I think you mightve mistaken it as calling plus. Theres no toggle for volte and i am in nyc which is the market for volte.

You have to use shortcut master to launch the activity manually... VoiceNetworksActivity...see screenshots. The old activity shortcuts no longer work on Pie.

its a U firmware.. you can convert from U1 to U firmware.. All the firmwares are multi csc.. meaning you can install a VZW firmware for example on a sprint device and ull get sprint branding as it will use spr csc when it recognizes the spr sim card

It's a U firmware what? Reference your first sentence.
I'm aware that any U firmwares are compatible with the USA SD devices. However, my question was about OP flashing his U1 non carrier specific SD device to Pie and it branded to Sprint apparently. That's the part that confuses me.

Then flashed the rom in the instructions to install the Android 9 pie J1 firmware. Before I had a Samsung splash, now I have a Sprint splash.

Problem trying to update via OTA

Well, as the title says, when I enter settings and then system updates, it starts to search for an update, but the after like 20 secs it stops and says "We have troubles authenticating your device, please try again later"
My note 9 is model SM-N960U and it's original carrier, is Verizon. I'm in Mexico tough, but it is unlocked, maybe that has to do with the problem? Any help appreciated.
I have a unlocked 960U1 with Verizon and am in the US. No update available. Maybe it is rolling out to Mexican customers only?

You don't lose VoLTE on unlocked firmware unless you have ATT. Think OP said he was on Verizon. It works fine. Wi-Fi Calling would be lost (which is weird since they got that working on unlocked with S9 series, too).
Not sure what carrier he is on he said it was a Verizon phone that's unlocked but he was in Mexico so he might be able to get it I am on att and didn't know other carriers let you have volte thanks for the correction

Oh maybe that's where I should've started. Sorry.
To be clear, the phone is from Verizon. The active CSC is VZW, as I mentioned, the phone is unlocked and I use it in Mexico with TELCEL carrier, i DON'T have VoLTE nor wifi calling (TELCEL only has VoLTE) the model is N960U. Do you think there is a way to get VoLTE and/or flash an 960U1 software even though mine is 960U?
Thanks for your responses

Stick with international ? or AT&T Stock ?

Not sure if i should stick with the AT&T updates stock or go and flash the International U1 verison of it. Which is doing better performance wise and getting updates ? Which one is most likely to get pie first ? Thanks.

I was originally using the Oreo ota leaks but then decided to switch to the U1 firmware. You loose WiFi Calling and Volte but you also gain an unbranded boot screen, no bloat and also the built in spam protector. I've had better performance and battery life using the U1 firmware vs the leaked ota updates. But it'll probably be different for everyone.
No updates yet still on September patch. Not sure how fast or slow they are :/

I think you misunderstood me me my bad. The AT&T firmware is Oreo. The U2 firmware is Oreo too it just doesn't have the blostware and boot logo. But you loose wifi calling, volte and possible slow to a updates.
Before I installed the AT&T Oreo leak I was using the stock AT&T firmware and disabled all the bloat and got pretty much the same battery life as I do on the U1 firmware. I'm thinking of going back to the official mostly for the faster ota updates. But you could try it and see how it works for you. I hope I was able to help.

thanks bro it did help. i'm prolly going to go back to AT&T instead since the otas seem to be faster and i think pie is coming to at&t first right ? and how did you know what to delete with the bloatware ?
I would advise that you always install the OS updates via OTA. That way you will always get the latest OS update for your device. I wouldn't recommend installing the OS that is release for a different model of your device. As there is a chance that you could brick it.

I use a thing called Sabs that includes a built in package disabler. It takes a little setting up which you can find guides on. But it's worth it.

Yes just flash the Us firmware (g960u) but you won't get any software updates on U model. Other than that, there's no way.
Or you can flash U1 csc XAA and get updates

So the mix and match does work but does not get updates. What about wifi calling on AT&T. Can we have wifi calling on U1 firmware? If I can get that on U1 then
there is no point keeping it as U which is more restricted.
