Yes just flash the Us firmware (g960u) but you won't get any software updates on U model. Other than that, there's no way.

Or you can flash U1 csc XAA and get updates

Why I would not get software updates? I guess I will be getting software updates if I am on AT&T but slower

Can I flash it with a U firmware and flash with U1 CSC? Can I do the mix and match thing?
I am interested in to get wifi calling and VoLTE with AT&T. I know I can get those features with a U firmware but what about U1?

I was on U firmware before and I was using XaC csc as well. But unfortunately i couldn't be able to get updates. Then I switch back to W firmwares and updates are back again.

So the mix and match does work but does not get updates. What about wifi calling on AT&T. Can we have wifi calling on U1 firmware? If I can get that on U1 then
there is no point keeping it as U which is more restricted.

Actually I have the phone with the U (ATT) firmware and now the wifi calling works.

Do you think that you can flash other carriers firmware on the Note 8?

On the Galaxy S7 phones in the US the hardware was the same and you could flash other carriers firmware on the phone when you take the phone to another carrier. Do you think you could do that with the Note 8. I see that the unlocked Note 8 is $30 cheaper than the carrier versions. If I can save $30 bucks that would be awesome.
I did that on my s7 edge. My friend did on s8 and s8+. It would be a shame if note 8 does not support it.
I don't see why not. Been able to do that with note 4 of mine.
Anyone done this? I see that 950U1 firmware for XAA CSC is out there on updato and sammobile.

You can do it , But you have to wait for the version comes out for our devices.
I am about ready to test the sprint firmware on my unlocked version...I was waiting for the unlocked formare to go live so I can revert back if needed.

Isn't the XAC (Canada) firmware needed for carrier switch because of the USER_DATA portion?

I'm thinking I might need to have the CSC be "XAA" for the purposes of Samsung Pay on the N950W model.

Problem trying to update via OTA

Well, as the title says, when I enter settings and then system updates, it starts to search for an update, but the after like 20 secs it stops and says "We have troubles authenticating your device, please try again later"
My note 9 is model SM-N960U and it's original carrier, is Verizon. I'm in Mexico tough, but it is unlocked, maybe that has to do with the problem? Any help appreciated.
I have a unlocked 960U1 with Verizon and am in the US. No update available. Maybe it is rolling out to Mexican customers only?

You don't lose VoLTE on unlocked firmware unless you have ATT. Think OP said he was on Verizon. It works fine. Wi-Fi Calling would be lost (which is weird since they got that working on unlocked with S9 series, too).
Not sure what carrier he is on he said it was a Verizon phone that's unlocked but he was in Mexico so he might be able to get it I am on att and didn't know other carriers let you have volte thanks for the correction

Oh maybe that's where I should've started. Sorry.
To be clear, the phone is from Verizon. The active CSC is VZW, as I mentioned, the phone is unlocked and I use it in Mexico with TELCEL carrier, i DON'T have VoLTE nor wifi calling (TELCEL only has VoLTE) the model is N960U. Do you think there is a way to get VoLTE and/or flash an 960U1 software even though mine is 960U?
Thanks for your responses

Guides on changing CSC on N960U?

Basically as the title suggest, I'm looking for guide on changing the CSC on my 960U VZW variant. There was one for my 950U and I was wondering if it would essentially be the same process?
What are you wanting to change it to?

Are you just trying to get the unlocked firmware? So you don't have the Verizon bloat?

Well unfortunately it's not possible with Verizon. If you're on the U1 firmware, then you have bloatfree firmware. Plus as you said you can stay on the official beta. If you need WiFi calling, you'll have to install the carrier firmware and flash the leaked builds. But of course that brings the bloatware. You can uninstall or disable a of it, but you'll be left with the Verizon boot animation.

Understood may not be all that bad to just stay on U1, especially being that WiFi calling would be my only benefit, other than being flash happy with leaked builds lol. Thanks boss

I'm currently in Indonesia and using a local carrier (Telkomsel). what should I do if I want to get an update to Android Pie? Is it possible if I get OTA update? Should I remove SIM first and do the update? or what?

You can try to update using this unkown csc. You'll need to use Odin.
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-note-9-us/firmware/SM-N960U/CHA/
But the n960u won't have all the cellular bands that are used in your country, it'll have most but not all. You would need a SM-n960F if you wanted it to be fully compatible.

two more questions. for cellular support, it will be the same with my firmware right now, right? LTE support or something.
do I need specific patched Odin to flash or any Odin version can?

ROMs wont change what cellular bands that are active/inactive
And you should be able to flash using regular Odin, but it won't hurt to use modified Odin to gaurentee that it works. I always use the modified version just because.

where can I get the modified Odin, any thread discuss specific Odin using for specific firmware? can I flash that firmware using Odin running on Mac Os, because I see Odin for Mac os is outdated.
Finally, I successfully flash my note 9 with ROM from https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/ga.../SM-N960U/CHA/, using patched Odin and no problem appears so far. thanks
Whats the difference between CHA and XAA?? they both unlocked? Im in Portugal using a T-mobile unlocked with csc XAA. Any recomendations? thx in advance
