Pie Beta for Note 8 in US - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hi, Note Pie beta is available in the Samsung+ app for US members; when I select the beta to register and follow through the pages, it takes me back to Samsung+ without actually registering. Does anyone know why/experience this issue/have a fix?

There is already a thread about this at
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/how-to/snapdragon-official-note-8-n950u1-t3893612
Just to add my experience, for me to get this to work i had to
Uninstall the Samsung+ app.
Install the Samsung+ (beta) app (which will give you a prompt about software testing blah blah blah). The biggest issue I had to install the Samsung+ (beta) was I needed to install it it using the three dots on the play store search as the apps main page did not have the install button.
Once you done this you will have to then open the Samsung+ beta app (ensure you are logged into your Samsung account in both the Samsung+ app and the phone). The pie banner did not show up for me initially, I had to restart the phone and relaunch the Samsung+ app.
You will see the pie beta banner underneath the device bar, click on that and it will give you the option to register for the beta.
Once you done all this run the software update on the phone in the settings menu and you will see the one UI update.

This worked. Thank you!

doesn't work for me. takes me back to the samsung plus app home screen.

Try this: delete Samsung+ app. Google Samsung+ beta and use the apkmirror website to download the 11.* version. Install it, and log in with Samsung account. Then try registering. If you don't see the Pie Beta banner, restart phone.

As far as i know this will only work with the Network unlocked version of the Note 8 (SM-N950U1) using the Samsung+ (Beta) app version 11.5.0.1 (35010)

Market Auto Update ?

Hi,
Is there a way to auto update all upgradable app in the maket in the same time ?
Not unless there is a third party app that can do it for you, which I doubt.
Didn't found it :/
There also no API to do it myself
The Appbrain app comes pretty close. The app is linked to your account on appbrain.com from where you can browse the market and mark apps to be installed or updated. Then syncing the app on your phone with the site lets you click a button to apply all updates. It will then search market for every app, and if you hit install, then after the install, it will immediately search for the next app in market, and so on.
The app also checks if there are any updates available for your installed apps, and lets you update them the same way.
Atrackdog does it

it shows you updates yes... but it doesn't download them and install them automatically which many people want...
downside to auto-update it that a new release might not be as good as the previous one and if it auto updates itself your screwed... (not really if you have backups... or if the auto-update app has 'ignore app' feature.. but yhh)..
also many people are security concious.. as the new app could have something like 'deletes all your data' ... and you won't know
But again that could be an added feature to an auto-update app... the ability to check if the old "warnings" like "change contacts" or "make or receive calls" is still there or has it been modified.. if modified...it will wait for phone owner to say yes / no to update.. if not it will auto-update etc

Cool exactly what I want. Thanks for the tip

[Q] Phone thinks I have an app update, but nothing on Market page?

Every now and then I'll get a notification that I have an update ready. I click the notification to open My Apps and...nothing needs an update.
I have noticed that my phone will randomly delete a paid game of mine, Totemo Full, and I've given up on reinstalling that. Would that be causing the issue? Did Totemo get a recent (like < 1 week ago) update?
What exactly, quoted, does the notification say? A lot of apps are set to update automatically, these apps might be telling you they were updated, not that an update was just available.
Quick tip: you can always go the market page for each app to see when it was last updated. Totemo is here, and it appears it hasn't updated since July 29.
Mine will sometimes say that there are more updates than there really are, but I've never had it tell me there's an update when there isn't yet. Have you used Titanium to freeze any apps, by chance?

Your apps disappear cause some of the by default get installed to your media. You can fix this by going to settings /applications /manage apps/media area and the O. Es that have a check mark by them, click on it and select move to phone and they won't disappear anymore. As far as the updates go, and as the other post says apps are set to update automatically and thats why you can't see them. It's just letting you know an update has been done. Hope this helps
I had a customer with this problem yesterday. Try going to market>menu>my apps> then look at each non installed app and look for ones that say "update" (for him it was myverizon and vz tones)

There are a few different threads on this......what is happening is your default account is switching over to a secondary account. If you go into accounts under the market menu and switch your account, you will see there is in fact an update for an app purchased on the other account. I am desperately searching for a fix to this. I now have apps split between the two accounts and if it weren't for my company using G-apps for e-mail now, I would delete second account.

This is not happening for me. I have only one google account on the phone. I have turned off automatic update for each app where it was turned on. I get a notification every day that there is an app with an update; open the notification and find that there are no apps available to update.
This version of the market has issues, for sure.
Just go to settings/apps & clear market data. You might also have to do that if you have updated an app outside the market.

I've tried that; it doesn't fix the problem (and I have no non-market apps installed.) It's more of an annoyance than anything, but I just wanted to point out that this is not always explained by an app with automatic updates enabled (which should give a notification of their own, by the way), or having a second Google account on the phone. The market app is problematic, period.

I get this too sometimes and find it to be Verizon apps like "Verizon Video". When you go to "My Apps" in the market scroll to the very bottom of the list and you might see it there. That's where I found my missing updates.
Yep most often Verizon apps. Annoying

[Q] Android Market -> Google Play

Erm... Are we supposed to have Google Play yet? I mean literally everybody I know with an Android device has had their Market auto-updated to Google Play, but not on my tablet... The tablet shows up in the Google Play compatibility list too. Have any of you got the Google Play update? Have I missed something? Or has it just not shown up yet?

Have you tried clearing Market cache and data? If you have the button "Uninstall updates" then click this also. Then open Market, accept the terms and close it again. This should force it to update.

Works for me, BTA it can be restricted depending on your country. Here it goes:
Updating the Android Market Icon to Google Play
20 Mar, 2012
PLEASE NOTE: This News & Alert is specific to our mobile and tablet products with the ANDROID operating system. So the following may not be specific to your product (e.g. Series 7 SLATE PC - XE700T1A operating system is Windows 7).
Instructions for upgrading to the Google Play application (apps, games, movies and books).
1. Select (tap) the 'Android Market' icon.
2. Read the pop-up 'Terms & Conditions' menu notifying the end-user of the upgrade to 'Google Play', and select 'Accept'.
3. At this point the icon should update and say 'Play'.
4. When the 'Google Play' menu appears, select (tap) 'Continue'.
5. There will be a name change at the top of the screen, when inside the market app, but the layout will essentially be the same.
Note
Due to a small data download requirement, this change may take some time depending on the end-user's data connection.
For the fastest update we recommend using HSPA+ or WI-FI.
6. Move back to the home (main or idle) screen, and select (tap) 'Applications'.
Note
a). If the handset is rebooted then the 'Android Market' app icon will have been removed.
After this select (tap) 'Applications'.
Then replace the Android market shortcut with the 'Play Store' icon.
(This can be done by dragging the icon to the home or main screen from the applications menu).
b). If the handset device is not rebooted after updating the play application then the icon will need to be removed manually from the home screen and replaced with the new Play shop icon.
Navigate to the apps and create a new shortcut to 'Play Store' by dragging the icon to the home screen.
Please note
On the Galaxy Nexus devices the homescreen shortcut will automatically be removed.
Therefore the end-user will need to navigate to the apps and create a new shortcut to 'Play Store' by dragging the icon to the home screen.
Important
If after the above procedure is performed, the 'Market' icon is not replaced after some time with the 'Play Shop' icon, then the end-user will need to perform all of the following steps as outlined below.
Move to 'Applications' > 'Settings' > 'Applications' >' Manage applications', and check that either of the icons appear in the list as shown. Then:
• Select 'Applications' > 'Settings' > 'Applications' >' Manage applications', and then select the 'Android Market' icon. Then select (tap) 'Clear data'.
• Select 'Applications' > 'Settings' > 'Applications' >' Manage applications', and then select the 'Android Market' icon. Then select (tap) 'Clear cache'.
• Select 'Applications' > 'Settings' > 'Applications' > 'Manage applications', and then select the 'Android Market' icon. Select (tap) 'Uninstall updates'.

My tab just updated yesterday to Play as well.
Do things look squeezed in to anyone else? The app tiles in the main part, and my installed apps and information columns don't take up the whole screen. The toolbar at the top and the green stripe do though, so it doesn't seem to be a malfunction.
The tight quarters make things feel squished. Plus, I find it much slower than the Market already.
buggy play store
I was forced to take the upgrade today. Now I can't scroll thru installed apps. I have to update them one at a time even if I don't want them. Am using a rooted i957. Anyone else having this problem? Solutions?

Thanks for the reply. I downloaded "cache clear" and ran it but still no scrolling. I really don't want to keep updating the bloatware but it looks like I'm being forced to. I know people are working on a rom for the i957. Hope they come up with something.
the playstore looks really nice. But i think the old market was a bit quicker.. or not?

Samsung M10 -Should i root my new samsung?

So, recently i bought a samsung m10, and ive noticed after a while, ads have been popping up? So i want to get rid of them. So i thought it was best to ask the pros here how to do this. (Yeah, to root or not to) should i try to find a way to get rid of the popping ads or just go ahead and root it? Solutions please!
If you are facing ads in the Menu You its because of an app that you have installed . When an Ad Pops up Tap Recent Apps Button and Know what App is displaying Those Ads.Then From Recent apps Hold the App's title bar and Go to App Info. Then Uninstall it

I'm gonna say, here the same thing that #Kingmilindu just said. Yep. Samsung's UI doesn’t bring any adds that is shown from system. I can assume a 100% surity that there is any third party app you’ve installed which is bringing adds. You better follow the steps that #Kingmilindu just described. Or if that app is necessary for you, download an add free version by searching in google. Or use lucky patcher to patch add removal..
And now about rooting.. I'll suggest you not to root.. As this is a new device in the market, Samshng will bring and release updates to this device till 2021. Perhapa this will get the android q next year.. So don’t root it right now if you want to get official OTA updates. ?
Thank you

Huawei p20 pro chrome freezing

Brothers, I am getting desperate, my flagship is not functioning properly.
What is the problem?
Since 2 weeks ago, Chrome started freezing in all instances, when opened directly, when opening a link from any app, when clicking tiles in google (also google app freezes some times)
How I tried to solve it?
Restarting phone
Clearing cache
Giving all permisiions to all google apps
Reinstalling the system (with backup)
Reinstalling the sistem (clean install)
Upgrading to EMUI 9.1 and updating Chrome (today I got an update)
Absolute nothing is working, Chrome is freezing like clockwork, for example when I scroll a page, it lets me scroll 1-2 screens then freezes or freezes from the beginning or would just not open , freezes in the loading page screen. It freezed even when the phone was loaded only with the basic apps, after reinstalling.
I was thinking of buying the Mate 30 pro or the P30 pro but now I am very seriously doubting I would.
All other apps are working, now when I want to browse I copy the link from Chrome to Firefox (usually it would not freeze right away after opening a link and it is letting me copy the wep address) but one can imagine that is not OK.
Please...someome with the same problem and/or a solution?

Try beta or canary to see if the problem persists. Check dev options and change the WebView option to either chrome stable or whatever version you want to test.

Thanks a bunch for the answer, I installed canary but it would not let me change the WebView implementation , it says "the choice is no longer valid, try again later" although both chrome and canary seem to be available. What I changed tho, is the "enable mulți process WebView" toggle, which is now active and it seems to have worked, at least atm.

Yes, beta option was available, with the same message when I tried to enable it.
No change anyway after I toggled that in developer options , all chrome instances keep freezing the same way.
I installed microsoft launcher and use Bing now as a search engine and when I want to open a link from gmail II copy-paste it in Firefox.
So annoying.
