Issue with bottom speaker in certain games? - Razer Phone 2 Questions & Answers

Just wondering if anybody else has experienced this. For me, specifically when playing Dissidia FF: Opera Omnia and one other game that I tried once but can't recall... When playing, sometimes the bottom speaker will not play sound at all or sound will play in "crackles" (as in, the game sound plays in crackle-length spurts). I can't find any particular cause for it, and messing with settings has done nothing.
Doesn't happen to me with watching videos, listening to music, or playing other games. But I'm wondering if it's somehow still something on my end, or if other people have experienced this. It doesn't happen constantly (sometimes the sound is just fine), but I'd say... Maybe 60% of my time spent playing, this issue occurs.

This is indeed a known software issue on MR2 seemingly to do with low volume. Does briefly increasing and decreasing the volume make the problem go away for a while?

Hmm... Initially I had thought I tried that thoroughly enough. But I figured out a way to make the issue more repeatable, and I tried turning up the volume well past the halfway point (which is usually overkill on this phone... lol). Turns out the sound does indeed kick back in when the volume is put above halfway or so. Sorry, I didn't realize it had to go that high to realize what's going on.
It's still weird that it only seems to happen in this one game I play (and that one other random one). All my other games, music, and videos have no issues. Well, here's hoping they eventually fix it... lol.

I had the same issue playing Clash Royale and Final Fantasy 7. Like you, turning it up to about 60% "fixed" the crackling. But it would return again eventually when I turned the volume back down. I ended up returning the phone because the Microsoft Store is an amazing place with 30 day returns. I love the phone so it sucks, but that issue is a real deal breaker. Once they get it fixed I'll look into getting another. On a side note; I did contact Razer support through twitter and they were going to send me an RMA. Had to go through the whole song and dance of "Did you try a hard reboot" and "Did you do a factory reset". If you decide to do an RMA and they say no let me know.

Flakey audio?

It seems the NookColor's audio subsystem is pretty flakey. For one thing, I notice a big lag in audio and video when playing them (rockplayer, youtube and others). Also, from time to time, sound will just die on me totally and only way to get it back is to reboot the nook.
anyone else seeing this?
If the audio is dieing after the device goes to sleep, this appears to be a defect in certain batches. I had this problem (even after hard resets), but exchanging it out for another took care of it for me.
i'm able to get it back by re-starting the NC.. sucks... maybe i need exchange my NC... again... the 1st one had a bad microUSB port

called tech support & they ack. that this is a problem.. thanks...
Doesn't seem to have enough output; the overall volume level seems to be very low. Everything else seems fine, so far.
crappy mono speaker will do that for you

Slight crackle in speakers?

Does anyone else have a slight crackle noticeable at high volume while playing songs or loud noises? Its a slight crackle and you can tell the sound is not as pure as it should be. Put a song on YouTube full blast and see if you can notice any little crackle, you might notice sound is not butter smooth....
I have a crackle on the bottom speaker with the stock ringtone. i posted about it on here, but noone responded
I have the same issue with the volume is all the way up. But if I lower the volume a little it's good. This phone is crazy loud
a software update can fix that.........

If it does it will just limit the max volume.
Yea it sounds like a software blip actually. The sound isnt like a rattle from an unseated or blown speaker its strange. I wonder why no one else hasnt brought this up...
I had issues the first day but none recently... Maybe they just need to break in
Yea if i blownin the top speaker while its playing it crackles loke crazy. Not that you shoukd do that. I did very lightly. The bottom speaker does not. Might have to rma.
Happens in top speaker for me as well. I notice it particularly well with the second half of the ringtone/notification sound, "Ganymede." Should we ask for a replacement?

This has to be an audio bug. I have also noticed it on my ATT Model. I have also noticed that the ringer volume drops dramatically when receiving calls. It is also hard to hear the person on the other unless the phone is held close to the ear.
Been having the same issue. It seems to mainly happen at the beginning of some notification sounds, almost like it has trouble initializing the sound on command.
I noticed this when I was playing a game, after muting all sounds, it sounds like the speaker is still active and produces noise. Its more of a hum than a crackle, for me at least. I I'm pretty sure its a software issue and not a hardware.

With regards to the popping/crackling/buzzing that I posted earlier in this thread (I think on the last page to be exact; also this may be different from what you're describing), I have confirmed via a replacement device that I just received today that it was a hardware defect, NOT a software defect. There is no popping/crackling/buzzing or anything like that with the new one, and I even held them side by side and did a comparison for another person just to make sure I'm not crazy haha (though it was pretty apparent when the new one didn't exhibit the problem I was hearing with the first one). On a side note, the screen on the new one looks like it has better whites (I didn't have a problem with the other screen, and it looked just fine to me, but side by side you can see a difference and I guess I got a two for one on this by doing the exchange!)
And finally, I didn't have to update the replacement out of the box like I did the first phone, which means they're now shipping phones that already have the latest update applied to them. Just thought I'd check back to let you all know that if you do have this issue, you SHOULD RMA/exchange it for a new one, because it is NOT a software glitch if you have the same issues that I described previously.
Hope this helps =]

Yes it does help, thanks! Im going to rma mine monday and post back with my results also.
I first noticed a problem with my speakers when I made my first call. My nexus 5 always had great call quality but my friend sounded so hollow and not at all as clear as on the 5.
Then I tried sounds, music. It definitely has a noticeable 'peak' and high and low notes flatten and rattle. Is this what you all are experiencing?
Sent from my Nexus 6
Anyone noticing issues with WhatsApp? I can't seem to hear the conversation tone while I'm chatting. The notification rings just fine, it's just the conversation tone. I've factory reset, but made no difference. Any help will be appreciated.
hey all, i definitely have crackle on the bottom speaker. i do not have any issues with the top. I hear it with notifications as well as music. Here is a good test YouTube video that i am using to see if anyone can compare. I have to hit the vol rocker down 7 times from full volume to get crackling to go away.
I've contacted Google (i purchased through Google Play Store) and they are shipping out a replacement saying this should not happen.
Here are the steps they had me take to test the device.
1) make sure Bluetooth was off
2) check the volume settings for all types of notifications (ringtone, alerts, alarm...)
3) reboot into safe mode and see if it still persists
---> to boot into safe mode, hold the power button like u are going to turn the phone off, when the "Power off" option pops up on screen, long press it and it will ask if you;d like to boot into safe mode. THIS ONLY LETS STOCK APPS TO RUN, thats why i used youtube for the example.
4) factory reset(they asked how i did it, i did it normally through the system settings)
After this, the rep explained that this was the first time she heard of the issue and the replacement device shouldn't have any speaker issues.
I also asked if it will be a new device and she said yes, no refurbishes. If the issue happens again, she mentioned to call back in and they will replace it no problem. Hopefully this first replacement won't have the same problem, but i love the phone so much that im willing to have them ship multiple out until i get a good one.
hope this helps!!
EDIT: forgot to mention, they put a hold on your credit card for up to 7 days until they receive the device back. You SHOULD choose next day shipping as that will be part of the hold and your card will NOT get charged for any extra shipping charges.
Wish me luck!!!
here is a quick youtube video i made comparing a faulty device and a working device
pay attention to the "dings" in the beginning of each part of the video, you may have to watch it a couple times to hear the difference - to me its noticeable right away. The first 3-4 seconds of the video sounds fuzzy/crackly... The same "dings" around 7 seconds are not fuzzy or crackly at all.... there you have it folks, Hardware defect!
Same issue here
Tried factory reset etc, still same volume lowering amd crackling

Blutooth volume goes up and down by itself when playing music

Anyone having an issue with the Bluetooth volume going up and down when playing on a Bluetooth device? My volume goes up and down by itself? Not huge increasing but enough to become annoying.
Anyone else?

Mine seems to drop to where the red starts, like the warning for turning it up pops up and I am able to turn it past that but then it goes back down... It is still plenty loud enough but yeah I have noticed it tool, as far as it going back up and down on its own I have not seen that.
Same here! Got my Note5 32gb Black on release day 21st Aug. Day 2, I noticed the volume going up/down while streaming Bluetooth from my car. I did a couple of factory resets due to unrelated stuff. Since then I haven't notice the volume going up/down while streaming Bluetooth.

Thanks Ill try that
Its damn annoying lol
My note 5 - 32 GB is doing that on Bluetooth in the car, on my Bluetooth speaker and on the wired earphones. Very annoying. I am about to take it back as it seems like the volume is on a yo-yo. Any fixes other than the multiple factory resets as that seems like a major pain since I spent so long setting up all my apps and preferences.
I may have fixed this issue. I had the same problem both before and after I enabled SoundAlive+ and volume normalization.
I went to settings/sounds and notifications/sound quality and effects.
Clicked Adapt Sound, and went through the setup process. This seemed to cure the problem.
SoundAlive+ is turned off at this time. Not sure if I turned it off or the system did. Either way, I'm not turning it back on for fear the issue will return.
Hope this helps.

Odd sound issue..

Anyone ever had this happen? Not sure where to put this. I've had the HTC One M8 on Sprint almost since it came out. Shortly after I put on ViperOneM8.
My phone started playing a sound I've never heard before. I was in my car and by the time I got my phone out of my pocket the sound was gone. The screen was off. What's interesting is I have Do Not Disturb mode on for the past few weeks and the phone is quiet the whole day except for that sound (and obviously except on break when I am playing a game).
A day later I was coming back from lunch and I heard the sound again. It was so quick I only had time to pick up my phone. By that time it stopped already.
Happened again this morning. I am noticing the noise comes when I pull into my parking spot at work.
It sounds like music if you were at a Japanese garden. Calm, peaceful, slow.
I don't change any of my settings and the few apps and games I have installed are from the Play Store, except TWRP I think.

Question Are there others in this group experiencing strange issues with volume?

I've bought my S23+ about a month ago. One thing I thought I'd leave behind, when upgrading, was the very irritating behavior of the sound/volume suddenly with no reason I've been able to discern, go to almost zero. This happens when I'm listening to a podcast using the Pocket Casts app. I'm sure it would also happen while I'm talking to someone, but I don't make many phone calls, so I'm not sure about this. It's not associated with any podcast. I'll be listening to something, then suddenly the volume goes to almost zero. All I hear is a very faint sound, enough for me to know that Pocket Casts is playing something, but that's it. The phone's sound and volume controls all indicate that they're in a normal range, such as I used to listen to anything like podcasts, phone calls, music, etc. However, when my phone goes into this weird mode, it affects everything, including music, phone calls, etc. If I include the volume to 100%, it doesn't change what I hear, it remains at near zero. I can no longer listen to anything until I reboot the phone. Once I reboot it, then everything goes back to normal.
This shouldn't happen. I've no idea why it suddenly and inexplicably goes to almost zero. Nor do I know why increasing the sound has no effect.
Have other people experienced the same behavior? If so, is there some other action I could take, besides rebooting my phone, to restore it to normal volume?
